  1. "Disposable" Pilot names that you use

. Oh, yes indeed Tom. Many of us here have done exactly as you describe. Given this recent post of yours, perhaps you should consider putting in your papers for "The Barmy OFFers Club". I've a hunch you'll qualify and then some. The Barmy OFFers Club .
  2. Anyone flying the AIRCO DH-2 ?

. OlPaint, about 15 minutes before you posted your previous comment I had started the following new thread: Setting Up a Blip Switch in OFF Great minds think alike, eh? .
  3. Anyone flying the AIRCO DH-2 ?

. The lever on the left side of the DH-2 cockpit in OFF is not quite right Olham, as far as I know. The only DH-2 I ever had the pleasure of seeing had a mixture control knob on the far left side of the dash, (good call Lanzfeld). Turning counterclockwise leaned the mixture, while turning it clockwise would richen it. That control knob, along with the blip switch, was all the pilot had to control engine speed. Good fun in a dog fight. .
  4. Anyone flying the AIRCO DH-2 ?

. Olham, most of the DH-2s had the Gnome Monosoupaupe engine which had neither carburetor nor throttle. Speed was controlled by turning the ignition on and off quickly, or blipping. Thus, the need of the 'blip' switch on the control column. And, if you are attempting to get as close as possible to the RL experience you need to come up with something similar for the OFF DH-2 rather than using the conventional throttle lever. .
  5. . MAN! There are so many great screenies and videos here Gents, really amazing stuff. And Adger, nice to see some of my old skins still getting used. I like the way you're doing the "photo" treatment as well. Keep sharing, folks! .
  6. Anyone flying the AIRCO DH-2 ?

. Olham, since I had done that video in a QC I knew there was only the three EA so I was not needing to worry about others popping into the party unexpected. Normally I would have been checking my six a lot had it been a campaign mission. Hauksbee, outstanding work Sir. Thanks for posting those pics. BB, I wish I would have had an acceptable IP so that I could have joined you folks in multiplayer when it was still around. Sid, you can set up a blip switch of sorts by programming a button on your JS to toggle between '2' (20% throttle) and '0' (100% throttle). Not quite the same as cycling the ignition on and off but it still works rather well. .
  7. I'm drowning here people

. Waco, you might want to post this over in the General Discussion Forum as that tends to be where everyone hangs out around here. Not that you haven't posted your question where it should be, if forum headings are anything to go by. BTW, there was just a discussion about W7 and OFF not but a couple weeks ago, so hopefully you will find your answers. Cheers! Lou .
  8. Anyone flying the AIRCO DH-2 ?

. BTW, if you haven't seen it, here is a video I posted about two years ago showing some of the potential mistakes one can make when fighting in the DH-2. There may be something helpful in it. .
  9. Anyone flying the AIRCO DH-2 ?

. Quite true Lanzfeld. Olham, diving on four healthy Walfisch in any mount is approaching suicide, much less doing it in a DH-2. You will need to be extr-EEEEEEEEEEEEE-mely cautious in your attacks if you wish to survive in the twitchy little beastie we affectionately call the "Spinning Incinerator". .
  10. Anyone flying the AIRCO DH-2 ?

. And I've just noticed that the above posting was my 5000th here! I feel like such a veteran now. .
  11. Anyone flying the AIRCO DH-2 ?

. I have flown many campaigns in the DH-2, both here in OFF and before that in RB3D. Despite all the plane's quirks and bad habits it still remains one of my all-time favorite WWI fighter/scouts. .
  12. . Greetings All, I've been gone most of this week and got back late last night, so I will hopefully be getting caught up this weekend on all the latest happenings around here. In the meantime, I wanted to share with you my latest idea on how to improve the continuity of my current campaign pilot's ongoing story. As some of you know, I began several weeks ago documenting Paul Blum's career with FFA 48 over in the "Reports From The Front" thread and will continue to do so. But rather than inserting the new episodes and letters and such directly into my posts I will instead be inserting the following link, which will take you to an actual page I have built just for this pilot. Here it is: Paul Blum's Story I believe this gives a much better flow to the story and allows for a more traditional reading experience. Perhaps some of you other OFF writers have access to some web space that you could park a page on for this purpose. If so, you should consider this for your pilot's who survive long enough to have a fuller story fleshed out around them. It would be great for folks like me who enjoy reading through the entire storylines. Now, I hope you will enjoy the latest installment of Paul's ongoing adventure, and the new format it is being offered in. Cheers! Lou .
  13. MAW Effects

. I am quite sure that 'three on a match' predates WWI, CptRoyce. Since the Great War was fought from the trenches it was unlikely an enemy sniper would have seen matches being lit at all. I seem to recall the superstition gained footing during the Boer War. There is an old religious connotation to the idea though as well. Because the three alter candles are always lit from the same flame, it is considered bad luck to light three things of the secular world from a single fire source. .
  14. MAW Effects

. Wish I could help you Flyby, but it looks as if you've already tried everything I would have done in the situation. I've a hunch you are on track about a command line in the 'effects.html' file. Best of luck Sir. .
  15. Mixture Control

. Oh Bubala, I give to you large kiss! I cannot tell you how many ways I haved messed about trying to get the mixture lever to do exactly that. I did have to use the 'Mixture Axis' rather than the 'Mixture 1 Axis', but it all works! A very big THANK YOU! , oh wise and wonderful BB. .
  16. MAW Effects

. Flyby, have you copied and pasted the needed files into your 'weapons' folder? .
  17. . Thanks for the recommendation Dej. I will watch for a fair priced copy I can lay claim to. .
  18. Night Flying WW1

. Flyby, I agree completely. It would be very exciting to see the star shells and such after dark, as well as the occasional small arms fire and lights in and along the trenches. Perhaps in OFF2, eh? .
  19. . Could be for any number of things Olham, and your guess is as good as mine. There was a lot of fighting around Cuerne late in the fall of 1918. .
  20. Paul Blum's Story: A BHaH Pilot's Saga

. Olham, I hope I didn't upset you too much with the last episode. Dej, I don't recall a Dallas in Germany. Although ... Dallas ... Dörzbach ... hmmm ... do I see another sequel in the offing? .
  21. Mixture Control

. Thanks for the kudos on my set-up and watch Tom. I hope you get your controls tweaked to your liking. BB, I would also very much like to know how you managed to map the mixture controls to a slider as you describe. In my feeble efforts I couldn't sort it out. Please enlighten us Sir. .
  22. . RP, this has been an issue since the release of CFS3. OFF unfortunately is the inheritor of the same problem due to its shared engine. All you can do is tweak your graphics setting to minimize it as much as possible. It also helps if you hop out of the cockpit shortly after takeoff and briefly pan 360 degrees around your aircraft, then hop back in. Cheers! Lou .
  23. Paul Blum's Story: A BHaH Pilot's Saga

. Wow! High praise John, many thanks indeed Sir, and I am very pleased to know how much you are enjoying Paul's adventures. And, since folks here are still enjoying the young Ritter's saga, here is the next installment: Paul Blum's Story Cheers! Lou .
  24. Mixture Control

. Yes Olham, it was literally a standing order that RFC and RNAS pilots bring back the cockpit watch should their planes go down somewhere other than their aerodromes. Imagine being forced to land in the front lines and having to concern yourself with prying the bloody watch from the dash whilest dodging MG fire from the nasties across the way. But woe unto the pilot who came home without said watch. It was damned near a court martial offense. And glad to know you like my little bit of working history, mein Freund. .
  25. Mixture Control

. Actually Olham, it is an original RFC Mark IV A cockpit watch, number N4752 AG. Still in fine working condition, I use it to keep track of my in-flight times. I'm all about the immersion you know. .
