  1. . I don't know what you are on about Olham, my brain hasn't been affected in the least by OFF. Doesn't everyone dress like this ? Right then, I'm off to Paris for my three-day leave, afterwhich I'll be bringing back a new mount from the air depot. Vive la France! .
  2. . ANTICIPATION. ANTICIPAAA-YAA-SHUN. IT'S MAKING ME WAIT, IT'S KEEPIN ME WAA-YAA-YAA-YAA-YAA-AA-TIN. You're gonna love it gunz. .
  3. . Oh, then you are going to love the DH5, gunz. A ground attacker's dream, and it's nearly bulletproof to boot. .
  4. . Ooo, ooo, I know, I know...not a good one. Remember to phrase your answer in the form of a question. Sorry Alex. What is, "Not a good one?" That's right Lou, but Jim got in just ahead of you, so the point goes to him. .
  5. . That is a very good price for the book Olham, and I have been watching it myself. However, I am leaning more towards putting my money into Pieters newest release on the subject, "The Belgian Air Service in the First World War", which includes everything in his older book and much, much more. It will surely become THE reference source on the subject. BTW, there is a copy of his latter work available on eBay right now as well, but for ten times the price of his earlier volume. None-the-less, that is the one I am wanting to own. .
  6. . That's odd Royce. I installed it via the JSGME and it worked perfectly right out of the gate. Bletchley, this is a wonderful little mod that really does make those missions in the early months of the War much more accurate. Too bad we can't sort out a way to get Stumpjumper's 'Flaming Onions" mod to work in the campaigns as well. And for those who don't recall, or are new to the forums, here is a link to an old thread where I posted a short video showing Stumpjumper's efforts: Flaming Onions Cheers! Lou .
  7. . Oh indeed Parky. That disc can make the real world disappear entirely at times. I want a new drug One that won't spill One that don't cost too much Or come in a pill I want a new drug One that won't hurt my head One that won't make my mouth too dry Or make my eyes too red One that won't make me nervous Wondering what to do One that makes me feel like I'm in the lofty blue And flying OFF with you Flying OFF with you, baby (apologies to HLATN fans everywhere) .
  8. . "Mr Lewis was not a God fearing man." Not so sure about that, Crossbones. You don't tend to find a lot of atheists in a combat zone. Agnostics, yes, and even non-denominationalists. But not too many who don't actually fear and respect a higher power. .
  9. . Actuall Olham, Ras made mention of this just recently in another thread, and here is his sage advice: Also, here is the link to the thread this came from: Saitek Rudder Pedals Question Hope this helps you out Olham. .
  10. . As Olham has mentioned, no one ever gets rid of their OFF disc. that has to tell you something right there about how much we all love this sim. Welcome to the OFF forums Adger, new lads buy the drinks! Cheers! Lou .
  11. . I agree as well, Track IR is indeed a must have. And right after that is a good pair of rudder pedals. Just like TIR, I flew without them for a long time, and once I finally invested in them I began kicking myself for not doing it much earlier. .
  12. . The computer I use to display my flying maps for OFF is, in fact, my old RB3D flying computer. It is all in there, ready to go, but the last time I fired up the sim it just made me feel a bit sad for the old girl. Despite all the innovations and add-ons done to her over the years, she has not aged well when seen in today's light. I have many fond memories of her, and they are best kept as that...memories. .
  13. . Outstanding! I will definitely be giving this a go. Many thanks Bletchley. .
  14. . I have also heard that it is excellent. Javito, while you're waiting you might try and find a copy of Norman Hall's 1928 work, "The Ballon Buster: Frank Luke of Arizona", (I read this one many years ago and found it to be quite good). It would be interesting to see how the first book about Luke compares with the latest. .
  15. . I am also a very emotionally invested flyer in OFF, and I can really relate to many of the comments made here by you fine Gents. While I have several pilots in the shed at any given time, I am only "connected" to one of them. The rest are for testing patches, or checking paint layouts, or getting in some QC practice. But that one campaign flyer I have at any given time is a virtual self that I become far too attached to. One more thing for me that gets added to the mix are a few RL flying experiences that frightened me to the point of being "sans excrement", and that feeling comes back quite vividly when things get hairy in the virtual OFF skies. And as BH and others have mentioned here and in other threads, I am good for about one mission a day, afterwhich I am emotionally, (and even somewhat physically), spent. .
  16. . IMHO, to live, (and die), as Voss did in those final minutes is to commit oneself to the moment without thought of life or death or winning or losing. And whether that comes about through fear, or bravery, or sacrifice, or survival, whatever the motivation; it is to become truly alive for that single instant in time, with no thought for the next. It is the ultimate surrendering of oneself to the universe. His demise always reminds me of a Wendell Phillips quote: “How prudently we proud men compete for nameless graves, while now and then some starveling of Fate forgets himself into immortality” I must confess I would likely have chosen the path of Cecil Lewis and far more prudent men, had I found myself in such circumstances. But then, to be fair, a man cannot honestly know how he will respond until the universe calls him to the test. .
  17. . Boucher's work is really beautiful. Superb style and mood. . .
  18. . Never will be able to beat that footage in "Hell's Angels" for the realism factor. Still my all-time favorite in that regard. .
  19. . I agree completely with the above comments. I recently bought a beautiful copy on eBay for $50. And, when Alex learned I had purchased it he sent me an autographed card I could place in it. It is an outstanding book by an outstanding WWI aviation historian. Cheers! Lou .
  20. . My flying room hasn't changed too much for a while now. I'm still running a second computer for my cockpit map; my Saitek pedals are 'da bomb; and my old school portside throttle lever is still working great. And, my French aviateur's uniform still serves as inspiration when I'm fighting in the virtual OFF skies. Cheers! Lou .
  21. . "He went to Jared!" .
  22. . I'm guessing that Flyby PC is a Forumla 1 racing fan. .
  23. . Aaah yes, 20 Squadron during Bloody April. Many a good fight in the trusty Fee with that lot. Sgt. Thomas Mottershead no doubt says "Hi" as well, (only NCO to be presented the VC in the entire War). Tell them Lou says "Hello" too. .
  24. . Once a B/R pilot, always a B/R pilot. .
  25. . Typhoon, very nice Sir. I'm a fan of the home brew approach, and am mulling over a chair idea for my own current flying room set-up. Ruggbutt...YIKES! I want to go to there. .
