Hangarscreens
Gunrunner replied to DarthRevan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
The new hangar screen system is now skin specific, so the bmp file should be inside the skin folder for it to work. At the moment there is no defaulting to a file in the plane root, however it has been suggested to TK, I don't think he answered to that yet. I have yet to try it as I still am on Sep11, but using "HangarScreen=../planename_hangar.bmp" might work. -

Work in progress, for a decal done and positioned in less than a half-hour, it turned pretty good I must say, just have to change the green a bit and it's perfect. -

Discussion and screenshots here NOTICES : This mod is NOT released under the Combat Ace Freeware Licensing Agreement (http://combatace.com/topic/55729-freeware-licensing/) as it includes content NOT subjected to it. The only content you can reuse freely following the CA Freeware Licensing are the SKINS and DECALS as they are my creation based on freely released template or from scratch; For all the rest you MUST contact the original author beforehand. ---------------------------------- PREREQUISITES : To my knowledge you only need SF2:E, however you might also need the Exp2, if you have finflashes not showing, just tell me and I'll include mine rather than using TW's. This should work without trouble with NATO Fighters 5 (however the versions already included in NF5 have a slightly different file organization and naming convention). This mod should not rewrite anything except itself and the relevant campaign files. ---------------------------------- GLOBAL NOTES : All planes marked with a * in the numbers list are considered historically correct, all others are as correct as sources allow, at worst they come from the pool of planes available to the nation in the given timeframe and bear possibly existing squadron numbers. There's a topic on CA (http://combatace.com/topic/68436-rf-84f-thunderflash-request-for-information-and-superpack-wip/) tracking my progress and meant to receive any feedback and information you might want to share. ---------------------------------- NOTES FOR 1956 : The Suez and Norwegian skins are bonuses and not useful for a Europe '56 campaign. I initially planned of including slightly anachronistic camouflage versions for Belgium and Netherlands, however, given the time needed for the operation and the fact that the campaign takes place in the heart of winter, camouflage would have made no sense. If you feel the need to properly install the Squadrons, you should add the following to your SQUADRONLIST.INI (if they squadrons are not already there), but everything is set up to work without it. ----- [squadronxxx] Name=32TRS DisplayName=32nd TRS Nation=USAF [squadronxxx] Name=38TRS DisplayName=38th TRS Nation=USAF [squadronxxx] Name=302TRS DisplayName=302nd TRS Nation=USAF [squadronxxx] Name=303TRS DisplayName=303rd TRS Nation=USAF [squadronxxx] Name=ER1/33 DisplayName=ER 1/33 'Belfort' Nation=France [squadronxxx] Name=ER2/33 DisplayName=ER 2/33 'Savoie' Nation=France [squadronxxx] Name=ER3/33 DisplayName=ER 3/33 'Moselle' Nation=France [squadronxxx] Name=ER4/33 DisplayName=ER 4/33 'Fumassol' Nation=France [squadronxxx] Name=42BAF DisplayName=42nd Squadron Nation=Belgium [squadronxxx] Name=306KLU DisplayName=306° Squadron Nation=Netherlands [squadronxxx] Name=RNAF717 DisplayName=717 Skv. Nation=Norway [squadronxxx] Name=TW4CRS DisplayName=4th CRS Nation=Taiwan ----- FRANCE, SUEZ All serial numbers involved in Suez are correct, 8 squadron numbers are attributed to the proper plane, 3 were used at Akrotiri but randomly assigned, the rest are randomly chosen from the most probable squadron numbers at the time. FRANCE French RF-84F in late 1956 would have been stationned at Cognac, but would probably have been detached in Alsace or Germany in case of conflict, one squadron relieving the previous, given the involvement in Operation 700 and the readiness of the squadrons in late 1956, the order of detachement would have been ER 2/33 first then ER 3/33 and finally ER 1/33 (remember, the last planes reached France from Cyprus in late December, and the last ground personnel and equipment in early January 1957, so even accounting for a rushed move, the attrition of planes and personnel would mean they'd probably take no part in the conflict unless it lasted into the Spring of 1957). US 3 or 4 stripes of different colors denote a plane assigned to the Wing Commander, 2 stripes or the same color to the Squadron Leader and 1 stripe to a Flight Leader. ---------------------------------- OPTIONAL ASSEMBLY REQUIRED : These planes are meant to use specific pilots however this is strictly optional, if you don't add them, the game will use the default pilot, so it's only a matter of adding more pilot variety and a more authentic feel to things. To respect the LOD author's wish not to have a situation where his work might be unknowingly used without proper attribution or worse you'll have to download the pilots separately or as part of the packs in which they are bundled. All are based on Old Diego's pilot, with skins by Corktip14 for the French version, ravenclaw_007 for the German ones. For USAF and ROCAF planes, you'll need the KUSAF01 pilot from Diego's pilot pack : http://combatace.com/files/file/9197-diegos-pilot-pack/ For French planes, you'll need the Guen312 pilot from the Israel 48/56 mod : http://combatace.com/files/file/11024-1948-war-for-independence1956-suez-crisis/ For German planes, you'll need the PilotGAF pilot from the German Pilots pack : http://combatace.com/files/file/9210-german-air-force-pilot%C2%B4s/ For other planes, you'll need the Euro001 pilot included with NATO Fighters 4+ Update 1 : http://combatace.com/files/file/11099-nato-fighters-4-patch-post-dec-2009-patch-level/ ---------------------------------- UPDATING YOUR FORMOSA FREEDOM CAMPAIGN v1.1 The necessary campaign files have been modified to add the Taiwanese RF-84F, just overwrite the original files. Due to JonathanRL's way of implementing squadrons (without a proper squadron list) I've had to use a specific variant for Taiwan rather than use it as a skin for the US variant, as should be. It also means that unless you add the squadrons properly, the ROCAF 4th CRS will appear show up as a USAF unit (without impact on anything else than text displayed on the loadout screen). It was the best compromise to be both working with Formosa Freedom and still be compatible with the standard implementation. At the moment I'm not interested in providing a package solely for that purpose. ---------------------------------- UPDATING YOUR 1956 SUEZ CRISIS CAMPAIGN v2.1 The necessary campaign files have been modified to use the updated RF-84F, just overwrite the original files. Be aware that it will leave the RF-84F using my old naming convention in place, it's up to you to delete it if it creates confusion in single mission play. At the moment I'm not interested in providing a package solely for that purpose. ---------------------------------- CONTENT AND CHANGELOG : v0.2 (10/08/2012) (6 variants, 15 skins, 2 campaign updates) CHANGED ALL Skin naming convention changed to make maintenance easier, you should remove the older skins, the "new" ones are identical ADDED RF-84F_NATO1 (based on the updated RF-84F, spoilers, brake chute, Euro pilot, early Republic Seat) 1 Camo skin for 42 Sqn. A question about number.lst
Gunrunner replied to DarthRevan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Level 0 is for National level decorations and does search for the name given, followed by the nation number, NEVER for just the name. Level 1 is for Squadron level decorations and has the same behaviour as above, with the Squadron number. Level 2 is for Plane level or static decorations and will first search for a decal with the name followed by the plane number and failing to find that will default to just the name. Level 3 is for Kill markings. -

It still works, in your case your best bet is to use the Hunter LOD from SF1 WoI to find the node name and hope it's the same on SF2 Hunters, otherwise you'll have to ask TK. -

NeverEnough, as Eric said, it was ported for the Suez '56 release, with an updated model, it was also enhanced for use with NF4+ (however still using the old model for whatever reason). The current INI seem fine as it is, however if you feel you've got interesting tricks up your sleeve on yours, don't hesitate to send me yours and I'll see which to use (or combine them), with proper credits of course. X RAY, Wrench, fine, fine, I'll add Italian 'flashes to my plate, but you'll have to provide the info on these, all I know is that 3 Gruppo used them (18, 28 and 132), the serials for (all ?) 88 of them, and the crash date for one. I also have very few profiles and pictures, suggesting they never were camouflaged, but not enough detail on the decorations and markings. -

All right, permission requests for inclusion of files going out, still have to identify the pilots' author. Just in case, the requests include : RF-84F (Revised for Suez '56) : GMG (sent) Republic Seats : Steve S (sent) MB Gw5 Seat : GMG (sent) French Guen312 pilot : ?? Korean era USAF pilot : Old Diego ? Euro001 pilot : ?? German pilot : Old Diego + GMG apparently ? Expect Tranche 1 release for (late) next week unless I discover another huge mistake; I only have to finish the French numbers (about 1h), polish the dutch camo (about 2h), finish the optional USAFE stripes (about 30mn), finish the documentation (a few hours) and Tranche 1 is DONE, then I'll spend some time with Sword of the Stars II as my free-time time sink and get back to Tranche 2. -

Thanks PureBlue, that would be great as I have next to nothing on Turkey. On another note, I'm finished with decorations and skins (I've updated the rest as I added some more details) for the USAFE '56 (had to chose among the various possible chevron design and service name placement as ), I'll just have to finish doing the numbers and they're done. -

Yes ! Just received Doug Gordon's Tactical Reconnaissance in the Cold War and the well dated and placed color pictures by themselves are worth the wait (except for the "wait, exactly how many wing commanders did the 66th TRW have ?" moment ). -

Thanks guys Well, I had to delve into both the photographs and S/S #6563 AND #6504 texts to make sense of it but I was so obsessing on photographs only that I didn't go back to Squadron's text (which is partly incorrect but helped me make sense of the pieces I had). So, it's official, I'm making 32nd, 38th, 302nd and 303rd TRS circa late 1956 (and maybe correct the 38th TRS circa mid 1957, which should be green and bands should be blue/red/yellow/green, even though some photographs are fooling my eyes). -

Gunrunner replied to Gunrunner's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
OK, fine, I now have almost enough information to do a large part of the four RF-84F squadrons for '56, I do however miss a few things in the color department, so far I have gathered that : ___________56__________57 302 TRS....chevron..........stars 303 TRS....chevron..........stars??? 38 TRS.....red arrow........stars 32 TRS.....red arrow........stars The question is, why 38 TRS, formerly a blue squadron, ends up as black when moving to the 66th TRW and what color does 303 TRS ends up with, since it was the black squadron before ? -

And once it's finished I realize it's the scheme for the 38th TRS as part of the 66th TRW, starting in late '57 and not the scheme for it as part of the 10th TRW as useful for the NATO Fighters 1956 campaign... :mega_shok: Oh well, on to the next thing... -

Well, the 38th TRS will now be a historical skin with 12 planes, including 4 with bands, 011 and 373 with triple black bands, 313 with a single black band and 343 with a black-red-red-black band. Should be done today, except for the decorated tanks, I'll probably spend some time on the French next. -

No problem, it's fairly common, between typos and improperly interpreted pictures, retracing the life of planes is a sport for the borderline insane, especially when what are supposed typos are not. -

hgbn, thanks, that's one more, plus dates and limits of the KA-X squadron numbers, and an interesting thing, is 53-7648 as C-748 a typo or do you have photographic evidence ? I had another with a mismatch but found pictures to suggest it was a typo in the list I found. All right, this is where the 38th TRS is with stock F-84F serials and a decal version of the fuselage bands, if the variation of number of bands matter they'll be a decal (not perfect, otherwise I'll paint it, which will be cleaner and will nicely avoid the alignement problems (well, I'll still have to spend some time aligning pixels over the airbrakes, but that's almost trivial compared to the wings). -

Oh hgbn, then I'll take you on your offer, I have all the crashes of the RDAF birds and all C-xx planes listed, however I'm missing a lot of informations on the early years, individual planes introduction dates, squadron code - Serial associations, so far I have only 5 of those confirmed (51-1865 as KA-G, 53-7574 as KA-F, 53-7581 as KA-J, 53-7649 as KA-K and 53-7651 as KA-B) of which one crashed in '61. Any help on that front would be welcome and would avoid having only those 4 and the rest as placeholders. Also if you could confirm the date at which the transition from natural metal/KA-X codes to camouflage/C-xxx was made, it would be better than my guesstimate based on photographs placing it in the first quarter of the 60's. Oh, and color pictures of the camouflage would help, I only have one very inappropriate for color reference, and drawn profiles but I tend not to trust those to much. Here, just for you in the meantime... -

Nice ! Are you planning to do its shorter nosed cousin ? Because I have a thing for the NF.11/13 and it would be a great addition to Suez and Europe in 56 as it was used not only by the RAF but also Belgium and France. -
