  1. Hard-up for TiR?

Hear ye, hear ye! I've got a Saitek Cyborg Evo NFFB twist stick if anyone in North America is interested. No charge. I'm on a fixed income and won't be able to mail it until the 3rd of April. Answer here or shoot me a pm. CJ

No, I have a few that I fly. I butchered my RB3D machine so I could have FFB on this one but I'll get it sorted in this machine shortly. I fly all of the mods for CFS3, ETO, PTO, MAW, and Korean Skies. I bought IL2 1946 not long ago but haven't had time to get it functioning properly. I think it may be issues with the CH Combatstick I was using (my backup now). I will definitely get that to working (between missions in OFF) because I want to fly it and put a lot of those great mods to use. I'm looking into First Eagles to diversify my sim collection some. Right now I'm going to test this stick and make sure it fuctions properly with all my sims and then I'm OFF into the wild blue (gray?) yonder! CJ

Thanks UncleAl! Your by-the-numbers worked like a champ, and so does this joystick. I took off after I deleted the rudder axis and rolling down the runway I felt nothing. Once I got her in the air I brought up the controls menu and checked "use force feedback". I pulled the trigger and the stick shook in my hand. I thought "We got it going on now!" I circled the field and landed and like you said Al, I knew the second my wheels touched the ground. CJ

Thanks Siggi, Unc! It seems to work just fine so I'll go and disable the twist (Chubby Checker I ain't) and give it a go. Luckily the wee one is down for his nap and I have test time. Thanks again, CJ
  5. Joystick Recommendations

I just got a Microsoft Sidewinder FFB gameport joystick. When I first hooked it up with the USB adaptor, it didn't function. The computer wouldn't even detect it. I got a warning message saying that my gameport needs to be configured. My machine didn't have a gameport so I figured that I was out of luck. I got to thinking and remembered that I have an old HP in the bedroom and the gameport is on a PCI multimedia card. I did a little surgery and put it in my machine, smoke tested it and it works like a champ now. The only thing I can't figure out is how to disable the twist rudder control. I have a set of CH pedals and don't need it. Can anyone tell me how to do that? CJ

The hat switch in my CH Combatstick stopped working but I don't think it's a problem with the software. The calibration program doesn't even show it functioning. Can you get parts for CH joysticks? With Trackir I don't really need the hat switch to look around but it does come in handy when panning for a really good screenshot. CJ

  8. Hi guys! I've got a question. This DOSBox, will it help with RB3D as well? I played it for years until I got a new computer and haven't been able to get it to run right. I usually fly OFF but still enjoy RB3D immensely. CJ
  9. Nice huntin weather

A flight of Fokker DVIIs from Jasta 10 out hunting. May 1918
  10. I have often wondered

I had to quit work a couple of years ago to take care of my wife, who is handicapped, so I'm at home the biggest portion of the time. Caring for her and our 3 year old son is a full time job but I do find the time to fly. I get up at 5am and fly until around 7am when the wife likes me to get her out of bed. I tried flying at night after my son goes to bed but always seemed to nod off on the longer missions and lawn dart my crate. Sometimes I'll grab a mission when Mac (my son) takes his nap in the afternoon. As far as the forum is concerned, my computer is on most of the time, so when I have a few minutes during the day I'll check the OFF forums at CA and other sites. CJ
  11. The Morane Saulnier L Parasol .....

Hertzie. Have you been to this site yet? http://thevintageaviator.co.nz/ They made their own Oberursel UR.2. Fascinating stuff! CJ
  12. Carburator problems on the D.VII?

If I'm not mistaken, the carbs were gravity fed and don't like negative Gs or being inverted. Try climbing in the DVII and then abruptly diving. The engine loses power every time. CJ
  13. About this close! http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...si&img=8876 I almost ate him for lunch. If I hadn't been climbing, and him falling, I'd have plowed him for sure! BTW, how far can you throw a rock? CJ
  14. Ya'll both have me outclassed, but I run AA @ 16x and AF @ 16x with sliders set at 5,4,4,5,1 and almost never dip below 30fps. It has to be a hellacious furball, at low altitude, over the Front with a hellacious battle going on to get that low. Can't remember the rest of the settings off of the top of my head, but I do have the settings for an 8800GTX and a GTX 280 recommended by Polovski. If you're interested I'll look them up and post them. CJ
  15. That's not over confidence. It's tantamount to suicide, but fun! In a fight with SPADs, you're in it for the duration. They are a lot faster than the DrI and you have to kill them all because you can't run. I love the DrI, it's my favorite steed, but has it's limitations. Speed being the most obvious. CJ
  16. The Morane Saulnier L Parasol .....

Unfortunately, I have always worked for someone else. I have my hand tools etc, but no machine tools or welders. I had a weatherstrip channel problem on a '70 Fairlane 500 (pictured), fortunately I only had to patch it along the bottom of the back window. I took some 1/4 x 18ga steel strips and fashioned a channel and welded it all in with a 110v MIG welder with 75/25 mixed gas. I put 1/4" tacks about every 2" and when it was all tacked in I went back and filled it with lead filler. It turned out pretty nice and to my surprise, actually sealed. Maybe, instead of saving my money for a future computer upgrade, I'll put it toward a benchtop metal lathe and a DC welder, a TIG torch, and an oxy/acetylene rig. My '93 5.0 is started to get long in the tooth and will need some work soon so that might be my best bet. BTW OvS. I sent you a pm awhile back about some books that I have and no longer need since I haven't owned a Chevy in over 30 years. Shoot me a PM. CJ Sorry for the hijack! :blush2:
  17. Do you have your yoke and joystick both connected? I know that if I try that (I'm running CH Combatstick and Pro Pedals and CH Flight Yoke) my controls lock up in the left turn position. When I unplug the yoke and restart the game everything works fine. CJ
  18. The Morane Saulnier L Parasol .....

It's very frustrating for me to see things like this. I am an experienced (30+ years) metal fabricator/weldor/machinist and when I see this I say to myself "I can do that!"(the metal work anyway) I have never gotten with the right people to ever do it. I have made rudder and horizontal stabilizers for one of the local cropdusters who flies an AgCat, but that's about it as far as aviation goes. I look at the tube frames for the DVII and the DrI and something like that is not difficult to make at all, just requires a knowledge of fabrication procedures. It's not a whole lot different than making booms for agricultural sprayers and irrigation systems. I would love to get in on one of these projects because I think I would be a great asset. Know anyone in the SE USA? CJ

I call it a pain in the gluteus maximus! CJ
  20. They were boys...

He does. He's a Snoopy and The Red Baron fanatic. A regular WWI aviation lover. He's not quite 3, but he can pick Richthofen out of most group photos. He did see that Richthofen-Terminator picture when we were going through some screen shots and all he said was "Red Banner, Red Banner". It's probably because he's seen that particular picture a few times. He can visually ID the DVII, SPAD, DrI (especially the red one), the Camel (that's what Snoopy flies), and the Albatros. He likes to "fly" OFF. He flew around for about 10 minutes the other day before he piled it in. I put his pilot on invincible and he gets a kick out of crashing. I've got to teach him that crashing is not good. He just might be our youngest OFF fan!
  21. How small it is!

Most WWI fighter planes were relatively small, but the DrI was one of the smallest. Wingspan 23 ft 7 3/8 in (7.19 m) Length 18 ft 11 1/8 in (5.77 m) Height 9 ft 8 1/8 in (2.95 m) CJ
  22. They were boys...

I've got Kelly's Heroes on DVD. A great flick. I liked Donald Sutherland's role as Oddball, the tank commander. Actually he probably would have been more at home in the Viet Nam era, but that's what made it so cool. Also, Clint Eastwood is one of my all time favorite actors. "Go ahead, make my day!" CJ
  23. They were boys...

They were mere boys, a lot of them. Werner Voss was only 20 yrs, 6 months, and 10 days old when he was killed.

  25. Only a doubt

That's why it's called artificial intelligence. Hopefully it'll never be as good as the real thing. CJ
