HPW Lighter AI Empty Weight Mod released!
Herr Prop-Wasche posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Greetings, Fliegers and flyers! I am (finally) proud to announce that I have just uploaded my AI Empty Weight mod to the Downloads section of the forum. Once it has been approved by the administrators of this board, it should be available for download. I apologize for the delay in getting this mod out. Originally, I'd hoped to release this after I finished work on my revised FM mod, but unfortunately that project has taken me a little longer than expected. Although you can use my FM mod with this weight mod, I do NOT recommend you do so because the weights for the AI aircraft in the two mods are not the same. I will release a revised FM mod that will be fully compatible with this mod shortly. As usual, this mod is designed to be installed using JSGME. If you have any questions or comments about the installation or use of this mod, please feel free to ask me on this thread. Thank you and I hope everyone enjoys using the mod. Edit: Whoa, that was fast! My mod has just been approved and you should be able to find it here: http://combatace.com...pty-weight-mod/ -

Glad to BE here! -
The forum seems a bit quiet as we anxiously await more news about OFF2, so I thought I might bore you with details of a few things I am currently working on FM-wise (when I have the time, that is)! Mostly I am just working on minor updates, fixes and changes to my previously released FM's as well as a few fixes to the .cfg file (the main FM file) for the stock OFF FM. Updates to my FM Pfalz DIIIa--substantially changed the FM to substantially eliminate the annoying "flip-stall" and lessen the tendency to sideslip so much. Improved roll a bit and adjusted speeds at various altitudes to better reflect historical performance. Pfalz is now much more pleasant to fly, but still a challenge. Re8 "Harry Tate"--main change was to increase empty weight to make it closer to historical record. As a result, it flies a little slower, and climbs and turns a little worse. You may not want to use this FM in an Re8 career, but it makes it a little easier to hunt and shoot down if you like to play the Hun. Updates to OFF FM: Albatros DII and DV--increased crash speeds for wingtips in .cfg file to make them roughly the same as other planes in the series. Fokker EIII--Several minor adjustments to FM that result in a somewhat slower plane at low altitudes--closer to historical record. Working on slighty increasing the roll rate. Corrected error in .cfg file in order to eliminate a second wing on the EIII, slighty below and to the rear of the main wing. This "phantom" wing did not appear to effect the FM, except to possibly create another "contact point" that may have resulted in a higher likilihood of crashed and destroyed aircraft. I am also working on a revision of the DM for the EIII to make it less invulnerable to bullet fire than it appears to be right now. Roland--Revised FM to improve stall and turn behavior. Also adjusted speeds at various altitudes to conform more closely to historical record. Camel--Working on removing what appears to be a phantom third wing that may have an affect on crash behavior. Not many other changes to the FM of the Camel at this time. This should cover most of what I have been working on at this time. If anyone knows of any other FM errors, problems, or niggles to any OFF plane that can be supported by historical evidence, please reply to this post and I will see what I can do. Cheers!

HPW's FM werks

BTW, I've tested the Fokker EIII, Fokker EV, and Pfalz DIIIa and I think I've cured the strange "rudder flip stall" that the original version of these planes suffer from. What I mean by that is the tendency in these planes for rudder in the same direction as your turn to raise the nose (and cause a flip stall) and for opposite rudder to lower the nose in a turn. Solving this problem alone makes these planes easier to fly without removing the other quirks that make these planes among the more challenging to use in OFF. -

I frankly have no idea if my mods will be compatible with OFF2. I'm hoping that they will be with only a minimum of tweaking, because I will need time to work on the new planes which will be included in OFF! Mmmm, Gothas! -

And don't forget to include a picture of your kitty, too! The little rascal! My cat doesn't chew so much as scratch-the furniture, my sheets, clothes, and me. All in good fun, though. An installer sounds intriguing. I'll send you a PM. -

Hi Lima, glad to hear that your computer troubles are sorted, I kinda thought you might have left us when I hadn't heard from you for awhile! One thing I need to clear up: I don't have an FM for every plane in OFF--that would be too big of a project, I'm afraid. After this current FM project, I'll probably work on the Camel, the DFW, and the Fokker DVII's and OAW DVII and stop at that point. Hopefully by then, OFF2 will be in beta and perhaps ready for release. Here is a list of planes that will be released in my next FM: Allied Planes Sopwith Pup 80 HP Sopwith Pup 100 HP Sopwith Tripe 1 Gun Spad VII 150 HP Spad VII 180 HP Spad XIII 200 HP Spad XIII 220 HP Spad XIII 235 HP Nieuport N28 Re8 (Harry Tate) Sopwith Camel (wing damage fix only) German Planes Albatros DII Albatros DII_early Albatros DIII OAW Albatros DIII Albatros DV Albatros DV_late Albatros DVa Albatros DVa_200 Fokker EIII Fokker Dr1 Fokker EV Pfalz DIIIa Roland I can add others at user request but they will have to wait for my next version, if I can get it out before OFF2. -

All right, I think I have (finally) ironed out the bugs which have been keeping me from uploading my FM mods and I expect to have something ready within a few days or so. The problem was that the sim uses some kind of checksum to insure against bad or corrupt files and misplacing a character of a zero somewhere can result in a corrupt file that won't work in the game. Hunting down those bugs can be a big chore and is the major reason I haven't posted a revised FM mod yet. Now that I am back on track, I have a question about how people would like the mod to be structured. Would most people prefer a single mod that contains ALL of the planes, both Allied and German; or two separate mods, one for German planes and the other for Allied? Furthermore, would anyone prefer I put scouts in a separate mod from the two-seaters? (Note: so far, I only have revised FM's for 2 two-seaters: the Re8 and the Roland. I may include more later). Finally, "optional" plane versions (Sopwith Tripe, Pup, and Spad VII and XIII versions) will be included in their own separate mods. I am leaning toward separate mods for Allied and German planes, plus the optional mods, but I am open to suggestions. -

Problem with AI Weight Mod
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to rjw's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
The adjustments varied according to aircraft type and side. First, I based my adjustments on the OFF ramp weight instead of the maximum weight. This resulted in a net loss of around 40 lbs for scouts and around 330 lbs for two-seaters. Then, I subtracted from the ramp weight 75 lbs for German scouts, 100 lbs for Allied scouts, and 150 lbs for two-seaters on either side. This represents fuel used for take-off, climb and egress to patrol area. The 25 lb difference between Alliied and German scouts should not result in a noticeable difference in performance between the aircraft on each side. The most significant difference in weight for scouts between my mod and 33Lima's was for the Albatross DII and the Fokker DVII because 33Lima based his mod on his estimate of each planes maximum weight load less 80 pounds expended for fuel, while I based my update of his mod on each planes ramp weight less 75 or 100 lbs expended for fuel, depending on whether the aircraft was Allied or German. Because ramp weight is related to empty weight, but maximum weight is independent of empty weight, my settings are lower because the OFF empty weight for these two planes is 200 or so lbs lower than they probably should be. -

Version 1.0
73 downloads
This mod is designed to replace 33Lima's original AI Empty Weight mod by reducing the empty weight of aircraft flown by the AI and cure the problem of aircraft (especially two-seaters) from clearing the trees and hills at the end of certain airfields in OFF. Although the current version of HPW's FM will work with this mod, it is NOT recommended that you use my FM changes with this mod because the weights for the AI are different in the two mods. A new version of my FM with revised empty weight settings will be released in the very near future. Installation: Install by extracting the mod to your CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\MODS folder that was created when you installed the JSGME file management program to work with OFF. To activate, simply highlight the mod and click on the top button in the main JSGME screen that opens when you start JSGME. -
Better OFF with a better system?
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I have a theory about the behavior of two-seaters in P3: they fly straight ahead without breaking formation because that's how a lot of bombers in WW2 flew. I think what we are dealing with is again a legacy of CFS3 code that was originally designed for a World War II game--not a WW I game. -

Swallowed a penny?!! How in the world did your cat manage to down a penny without choking? The worst any of our cats did was swallow strings of X-mas tree tinsel. I remember having to pull that out of the business end of my cat on more than one occasion. 1400 bucks! Yikes! I'm sure your kittie appreciated it! Did you save the penny? I'm up for a trip to the museum any time. Just send out a shout. -
Nice words, there, Olham. I didn't notice to read them the first time. Very appropriate for OFF! Gaw--Those are screenies from OFF2, I think. You can catch them in the preview movie.

I will definitely join in MP missions as soon as I get my hot little hands on my copy of P4 when it comes out. Although I primarily enjoy SP and I am not a very good pilot to begin with, I had a blast on the few occasions I was able to join MP missions in P3. Vasco, Winston Doright, Axegrinder, etc. were extremely friendly and patient with me. My only problem was that Sunday afternoons were not a good time for me to join in MP because of family commitments. Hopefully, OBD has been silently working on improving some of the MP aspects of the sim and are only being quiet in order not to get everyone's hopes up. I'm guessing we will know by sometime this spring or summer. -
My politics and UncleAl's are probably 180 degrees from each other, and he could certainly be abrasive, but I don't agree with lifetime bans. I think he should be allowed back, at least on a probationary basis. It's not like he shot anybody or wrote racist garbage! If I recall correctly, the political forum was opened specifically because of UncleAl, so he could post stuff that was not appropriate in this forum. Perhaps he thought he had more license to speak his mind (even if I disagreed with 95% of what he said) then he was really being offered. Oh, and welcome to the forum, Adger1971. I'll also have a virtual Warsteiner!
