sitting_duck replied to Vasco's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Multiplayer

As the devs have done such a great job with sunrises and sunsets in the game, I make alot of missions that are start with a nite sky. I noticed that althou there are some constellations that are recognizable, quite a few are missing or incomplete. I have added stars to the stars.xml to complete some of the more prominant constillations. so far, i have added lyra, cygnus, the pleides, and fixed orion and taurus. backup your existing starts.xml in you cfsww1 folder, and replace with this. will be updated as often as i get the time to add stars. If you have a particular constellation you want fixed or added..post... http://bhah.homeip.net:192/pub/stars.xml current as of 12-3-09

Winston's Saturday MP sessions
sitting_duck replied to Winston DoRight's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes,..madmatts is pretty old,,and you can ignore the promt for the dm update. In addition to the 2 planes madmatss puts in (gotha and zepplin), once you get teamspeak installed, click on the "overflanders fields" room just once, and on the right you will see links for 3 aircraft...struttera1, strutterb1, and n17bis. you will also need these, as they clear up problems that the stock planes had in multiplayer. if you need any help getting started,,put up a post in the MP section of the forum,,,and either i or someone else will be glad to get you squared away. -

if no one else has offered...pm me your address,,and ill get on over to you -
Cant say i agree. Did some missions with ppl on both sides not too long ago for the purpose of seeing how the planes fly in this manner, and did not get the stuff you get in mp dogfights. Im not sayin the game played perfect ever time, but it was enjoyable.

big thumbs up to all three

I belive running in xp sp2 mode is just as important, if not more, than the administrator settings.... and you have to do it for both offmanager.exe and cfs3.exe. If you have not done this, i would highly suggest you give it a go. there is one more quirk about w7 and bhah, but im pretty sure its only has multiplayer implications. It involves renaming a dll file that for whatever reason, screws things up http://www.overflandersfields.com/FAQ.htm#A5M question q5m,,,almost at the bottom.

I need help from a vista user with TS
sitting_duck replied to Red-Dog's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Multiplayer
well..he had 2 problems there... the "not connectect" is caused when, in tso options, display tab, you have the "show what channel i am in" checked off. In addition to showing the room your in,,it also throws that "not connected" in there too... the other problem he had was that tso didnt show anyones names when they talked...he's 64 bit vista, so going to assume running tso in xp compatiblity mode fixed it. -
Now..dont do that.....what makes this forum work is eveyones input... but it is a BHAH forum,,,and sometimes the "other" game topics get out of hand.

appcrash is a vista utility..so going to assume your are running vista. are you running with both offmanager.exe and cfs3.exe set to run as administrator, and run in xp compitibility mode? I know all the mp pilots have to run this way, not positive its required for campaign. http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/appcrash-messages-overview-and-example-scenarios

If any of the upcoming sessions involve ground targets and bombers, any chance of getting recon photos with headings prior to mission?

Our illustrious flight commanger has asked us to bomb in the Be2c from an altitude of 3000ft to minimize casualties from ground fire. As there is no bombsite, and visiblity on that plane is terrible, did some practicing in it to see if some method of semi high bombing could be made accurate. At first was hoping I could find a ground object directly to the right or left of the target, and then find a spot on the wing, or body of the plane, and when they lined up, drop, but the wings just cover up too much area. So i fooled around with dive angles, altitudes, and spots on the aircraft that could be lined up with either the target, or predetirmend ground objects that are to the right or left of the target. This method seems to work pretty good, considering the altitude. as i approach the target, i find something to the right of the target that i know will be visible as i dive on the target, and just off the right side of the planes nose area (the target itself will be blocked by the nose) In order to tell when the target is almost right underneath me, i have to do high bank s turns. The be2c handles pretty nice, and is actually pretty easy to do this and still mainatin altitude. When i think im almost on top of the target, i level off, and fly for just a few seconds, as it seems im usually not as far along as i thout i was when in the banked turns. I start to put the plane in a steep dive, and as the top of the pilots head infront of me intersects the target, I slowly start to pull out of the dive. If when starting the dive, i notice the target is not almost right under me, it means i didnt fly far enough, and my bombs are going to drop short. I also tried dropping my bombs while in the steep dive, but it seems you cant do this. as soon as the predetermned point to the right of the target intersects with the first wire/strut, i release. I use rivers to pratice. one they are narrow, and if you can put a bomb in a river from 4000 ft your doing pretty good, and two,,,you can approcah them so the river runs right to left, and you have a perfect reference point to line up the wire/strut thing. And important,,i fly zoomed out,,,(no pun intended)....im sure if you are zoomed in this will change things

I belive numerous attempts have been made in the past by pilots wishing to donate to the cause (remeber the mug and tee shirt episode?)....and all have been turned down by the devs. dont think im too far off the mark when i say there are alot of pilots who really want to contribute to what you are doing, both to show their appreciation, and to help. This is something we want to do...all you have to do is tell us how....

have always suggested newegg.com for parts. prices seem to be lowest, and returns within the warranty period are always no questions asked. price vrs performance, i think ati wins hands down...but just my opionion if you do go ati, and get a crossfire board, be sure to get a x48 southbridge. Its the only chipsett that runs both cards at 16x. Some of the other chipsets run the first card at 8x and the second card at 4x. Big waste of 2 video cards as far as im concerned. GET A FRIGGIN FLOPPY FOR THE COMPUTER!! cant belive ppl spend a grand for a system, and wont spend 30 bucks for a floppy drive. then when they have to load the sata/raid drivers they have to jump thru hoops,,and pray the usb is enabled in dos.

Im not trying to re-write the book on cfs3config settings, but another pilot followed my proceedure for doing their cfs3config with an ati card, and they got the same results I did. As i was not sure if this was something that was unique to my system, didnt want to suggest it to heavily, but it appears to work. For reference, i have a e8500 @ 3.19 and a ati 4870 I was tired of getting lower fps than other ppl with same or lower systems. For the most part, i had been trying 3 cfs3config settings. Off's, Rabus/homeboys, and the settings on com-central. I reset my cfs3config to default, and i reset my ccc settings to default. As i knew i was going to be starting the game over and over again, i made a shortcut to cfs3mp.exe (cfs3.exe will work just as well), so i would not have to start from the off manager every time. I ran all the games with tac off, labels off, and hud off, and used the teamspeak overlay to get my fps. Ive found the "Z" key can drop your fps a few. I made one change to cfs3config, and set my resolution, and played the game, writing down my fps on ground, and then skimmining over trees. I made one more change to overides, and unchecked dual pass render, and played the game, noticing a dramatic jump in fps. Then i started adjusting my sliders, one slider at a time, and one notch at a time, playing the game after each setting to see the impact on both fps, and more importantly, how the game played and looked. And writing down the fps with each cfs3config change. Doing Planes first, then effects, then clouds, on my system, (someone elses might be different) setting these to 5 did not frop fps any. Then did scenery and terrain, again, one slider at a time, one notch at a time. For my system, going from 3 to 4 on either dropped fps alot, with no noticable improvement in game play or appearance. So when finished with sliders, was at 5-3-3-5-5 Then i started making "recommended" tweaks to overides, and texture info, one setting at a time, and playing the game to see the effect. NONE of the recommended cfs3config tweaks (ie vertex buffers, render target, etc etc" improved my fps or game play. In most cases they dropped my fps. when i was finished with cfs3config, the only changes i had made to overides was dual pass render unchecked, and i unchecked the disable shoreline render, and disable water animation. texture info was left at default. I was running around 45-53 on the ground, and 60fps skimming over trees. And no matter how fast i turn my head, i almost never see white triangles on the edge with my track ir. Went into my ccc settings, and rather than do settings on click at a time, just adjusted each 3d setting to where i wanted to be able to play the game, and watched the effect of each setting. I was able to turn all ccc settings to performance, and fps in the game did not drop at all. The premise is pretty simple. If you make a slew of settings changes, all you get to see is the combined results of those settings. You have no idea if some helped your fps/gameplay, and some dropped your fps/gameplay. while this method is a pain, and takes time, it does show you the effect of each individual setting change on your game. And while most of the suggested tweaks for cfs3config have been around for a while, and pretty much accepted, from what i see, they are not the best settings to use, at least with ati cards.

lol...wow..i must have done a really bad job of explaining this... the last thing i was recommeneding was just throwing someone else settings that happen to work for them into another system... and, if you game is running fine to beging with, unless your onna the ones that have to keep trying to squeeze more,,(like me)..if it aint broke,,dont fix it... all im suggesting here is to start from scratch (ie..default cfsconfig), and adjust your settings as slowly as your patience allows..but playing the game after each adjustment, and writing down the effect of the adjustments. I have never had anything close to 60fps on the airfield,, and was amazed that it was all the "recommeneded" tweaks (vertex buffers...write only buffers etc etc), that where dragging my fps down with no improvement in game play. But thats just my system. what works for me might not work for you, and what works for you might not work for me. But the only way to tell what is best for any individual system is one setting at a time,,play the game, then move on to the next setting. You may find one of the recommended settings works best for you after all, but in my case, NONE of the recommened tweaks came even close.
