Wings of Prey half price on Steam
Dimus replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Siggi, You get three activations and 10 deactivations. So before you reactivate, deactivate first and you save one activation. I've done it once and it works. You have to run a protect.exe or something in the root folder, I don't have it with me now. They claim that you can contact them and get more activations if needed but I would not want to get to that. It is kinda annoying, true. As for simulation mode I think they changed it in the last update and you can have custom realism by switching off the stuff you don't want. I haven't played it lately so don't know how it works. It used to be three modes, Arcade (basic FM and DM, unlimited ammo), Realistic (better FM and DM, limited ammo with labels) and Simulation (no labels). To UK, I'm with you on that, it is good if you just want to shoot at stuff. -

Although I'm not a big fan of the game myself and I do find it arcadish, I have to make a few things staight here: - You can fly axis planes in training mode. There is just no campaign built for axis (campaigns are silly COD style anyway) - There are no tags or icons in simulator mode - MP is dodgy but most times it works. I have been online several times What is most offputting to me is the bad FM (even in sim mode) and the fact that as Siggi says you can not complete the mission by flying back to base and land, it cuts out once you shoot down or get shot down. This game is better suited to light hearted MP shootouts, just to enjoy the stunning graphics and scenery. -

OT Wings of Prey First Impressions
Dimus replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Well to be honest, I had no problems whatsoever using my prepaid Mastercard that I usually use for online purchase, although I would prefer Paypal. Also downloads of upgrades and all were fast and with no corrupt files. The forum is also quite responsive (nothing like here of course). I have however observed some who indeed had some problems and posted but they all seem to have been resolved in the end. Hope they set up some dedicated servers as the lag is really bad on some people hosting with probably very bad ISP services. I will also try hosting with local friends who have it to see how it is when distance is not an issue. -
OT Wings of Prey First Impressions

I tried the online dogfight mode last evening but it was extremely laggy. Planes jumping all over and switching on and off, it was very tiring. Perhaps it was the server I chose. What has been others' experience? -
The CC system is still down and I would not recommend subscribing to a pay system that you can not read the terms. The yum is an east european currency I believe, probably from one of the ex-Yugoslavian countries but can't say (don't know) which one. They must indeed not taste very nice.

This effect is very well implemented in BoBII WoV by A2A/Shockwave. All these little things sure add to the immersion factor of a sim.
-
I have it and like it more every day. It is great for dogfighting as the graphics immerse you a lot but the short maps do not allow for much more. However, the graphics are amazing (Reflections, cockpit dynamic shadows, motion blur effect, water animation, tree animation, snow shine at low sun, light bloom). The devs sem to listen so imho it looks very promising. I made a couple of videos:

Hello guys, I must admit that I was away from OFF for several reasons but I came back to it after the release of HitR which I promptly got after its release. I don't know if it was the case before HitR but I get a lot of flickering on the terrain, especially trees. My sliders are 5 5 4 4 5 5 and I run on a Q6600 2.4 with a GeForce 9600GT512. My frame rates are in the 30s with AA at 8xQ and AS at 16x set through Nhancer for CFS3.exe. My only overrides that are checked are Dual pass render and Terrain Detail Texture. Some how it also seems that the AA is not applied well. Any thoughts, suggestions?

This mod is quite old and I have tried it in OFF P2 in the past but did not bother much with it. Lately I have been using it in FSX (DX9 version) with great success and in my opinion, spectacular results. So I found the DX8 version again and dropped it in the root folder, using my FSX config file. Haven't done much testing but for starters it seems to be working as it should be. I'll post some screenshots when I have some. What this thingie does is add bloom effects in light sources and also darkens the shadowed areas. Some don't like it. Personally I think that it simulates the human eye reactions to light quite well. Also, at least in my medium to low end rig, it has negligible FPS hit. The file can be downloaded here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/jcjphh All you have to do is drop the d3d8.dll and enbseries.ini files in the game's root folder. It will load when the game loads. You can switch it on and off any time by Shift-F12 so you can see the difference. The ini file includes all the tweaking that can be done. I personally follow the suggestions for FSX by Nick Needham which you can find here: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=32482 Again, this may not be to everyone's taste and it takes a bit of experimenting to get used to but some of you may like it. Anyone already using it? As said, I'll try to post some pictures from OFF when I can to show off the effect.
-
It doesn't take too much to try Olham. It will show you more than screenshots can.
-
I think you got the hang of it Craeghorn . I did the same tweaking. It was indeed too dark in my pics. In FSX these settings work well but I guess CFS3 is a different engine.
-
Descent replies, as expected. Olham, it indeed boosts contrast, Herr Prop-Wasche, the darkness can be adjusted, I agree it is a bit too dark in some shots, I will reduce it myself. Also bare in mind that monitors are different and screenshots do not show the effect fully. It is a dynamic effect and should be tried during flight to check it and give it justice. It can also be used for bloom effect only and not contrast, it's quite flexible. Well you need to have a tweaking apetite of course. Good luck to anyone who tries.

Questions moved from the sticky re Known issues

Thanks Winder! Is this Patch 1.46 for HitR going to be available soon? -
OK here is a series of pics in pairs. Always the first is without mod and the second with mod. I understand that some might comment that the mod-on ones are just darker. They are indeed darker but this reflects the shadowed areas or areas that are "on the other side" of the light sourse (check how the halb silhouette is darkened against the sun in the last pair of pics). I repeat, it is much a matter of taste, plus it takes a lot of tweaking and one can try reducing or increasing the effect through entries in the ini file. As for light glinting on wings mein Herr, I'm afraid I can not comment as I haven't flown a lot with it, it might be the case, after all it doesn't hurt to try. It is free and will not harm anything. Don't like it, remove it. Enjoy the pics:

I managed to resolve it by applying my trusted FSX Nhancer settings in both global and profile. It is all clear now. For anyone interested the settings were based on Nick Needham's guide for FSX tuning found here: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041 The FAQ also helped a lot to set my CF3 config overrides etc. Thanks Unc!

Thanks Pol! I've been away from OFF for months and now I'm impatient! -
Thanks Unc! My issue is not performance as the game is smooth and 30FPS with no stutters is good enought for me (I have put a limit of 30 FPS to avoid stutters and it works). I just don't get the quality and clarity of picture I would expect with these high settings (which I had unchanged since the first version of P3. I'll experiment with nvidia control panel based on the FAQ. Thanks for that! See ya!

Well, many different views here... I'll just say that I got Vista 32 home premium on the rig I bought last year. It was a package deal that I could not break so I had to reluctantly take it. I must say that after deactivating UAC, the rig runs with no problems whatsoever and I use it for OFF, FSX, Il-2, ROF, in addition to my wife who uses it for her work. However, I do believe that Vista is a resource hog and most probably 7 will unleash the potential of my rig so I'll seriously think about it when I decide to upgrade it.

Hey UK, Nice movies you made there. Good work! If you fly FSX you might want to look at the new GEX Europe, texture replacement. Quite inexpensive and changes the default textures with highly detailed , 3d like textures that do not have any effect on perfromance, if fact they improve it. For my country, Greece, they are spot on, but I believe that England is equally well represented. You can find it here: Gex Europe download and support forum here: GEX forum I definitely recommend it. Plus if you don't like it there is a 30 day money back policy. I call that honest. -
I must admit I've been away from OFF for many months now but have been following this forum loosely to keep in touch. Real life, the ppl course and other sims have got in the way. This addon might be a good reason for a fresh start. Looking forward to its release Winder.

I am a naval architect. I work for a french company, in charge of technical consulting, leading a team of six engineers. We design new ships, we convert old ones (in paper that is not actually cutting and welding them), we inspect the work we designed while being built, we inspect ships and generally do all kind of technical work on ships. It is quite rewarding and you get to travel quite a bit. I am also trying to finish my PPL, but that will remain a hobby. Nice thread!

- Wife and daughter always come first. - I gave up modelmaking a few years back due to lack of time and space, after an illustrious carreer of awards, both for plastic A/C and wooden boats. Might take it up again some time. - Flightsims in general, online with the Boys of 60 squad. - Sailing yachts, if I find the right company and the right yacht to hire. - Reading literature, aviation and history related preferable. - But most of my free time now is devoted to real flying and trying to finish that PPL: -
Well, I just can't miss this topic. PD had to attend to his and his family's needs at this time. His devotion to our enjoyment is beyond belief. I met PD through OFF and consider myself one of the lucky guys who are priviliged to be a member of the Boys of 60 squad. Flyby, thanks for the vid, great times there. I sure hope all goes well and we will hear PD's voice on TS very soon. Oh, and thanks to sitting_duck for bringing this up.

I am not that frequent here lately Olham but I love your idea. Can you please put my name together with Gous in Athens? Thanks!
