  2. Radeon question

I don't think it's a matter of "better" or not. Pretty sure one of the factors was Nvidia cards were capable of renderering cockpit glass reflections whereas the ATI offerings wouldn't. Not sure if that's still a limitation with the ATI cards.....haven't owned one for a couple of years now. In terms of raw performance (FPS) I would imagine Nvidia and ATI are probably quite similar. Basically it comes down to IQ preferences, and at this point I would imagine image quality differences between ATI and Nvidia would be subtle in most circumstances. This is of course, assuming that the cards being compared are from a similar tier of products. Sort of like Nissan vs Toyota.... Cheers, Parky
  3. Radeon question

Al, I've paid close attention to most of Birddog's tech related posts. It's pretty obvious he knows more about hardware AND software than the vast majority of us here. No need for such an abrasive response to his post, particularly when your's was utter rubbish. Cheers, Parky
  4. In answer to the poll's heading, my answer would have to be "quite frequently". Wouldn't have it any other way though. I seriously doubt that has anything to do with my inability to reach the 17 hr mark, and I've been trying since phase ONE. It's all about picking your battles more than anything. Best combat flightsim I've ever seen.....bar none. You don't "play" BHaH........you "live" it.
  5. nvidia 190.38 drivers

Yup......the old saying "If it ain't broke..." might apply here. Glad the archive link helped you out a bit though For those who like to really fiddle with graphics driver settings, RivaTuner allows access to a whole s**tload of lower-level options that aren't available throught the Nvidia CP. It may even allow you to override the AA/Aniso setting with the new drivers (although I haven't tried). Should be just a matter of setting AA/Aniso levels from "Driver Settings/Customize/DirectDraw and 3D Settings". It will actually "force" an override of the Aniso for sure. AA I'm not sure about, but may be worth a try. I also like the fact this utility allows complete control over your card's fan speeds, either on the fly or through the use of "profiles". It'll also allow you to completely cook your card by adjusting clock speeds. If that isn't risky enough, you can go into the "Power User" settings and bugger things up completely via the advanced registry editor. If you don't know what you're doing...stay the hell away from that feature please. On a final note, you're likely to get a cryptic warning that RivaTuner has detected an "unsupported" graphics driver during install if you're using one of the latest drivers. Disregard it....it's a load of fluff. It'll still work just the way it's supposed to, however, as with all third party Tweakaholic utilities.....proceed at your own risk. Cheers, Parky
  6. nvidia 190.38 drivers

Guys, Hit the following link: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us Select your OS type, then select your card model. Voila!! You've got all kinds of previous driver versions to play with. (Mostly applies to those of us who are clever enough to still be running XP though.....*cough*) Cheers, Parky
  7. For a second there I thought I had been redirected to the wrong forum. Then again, perhaps I have been.
  8. nvidia 190.38 drivers

Hi Vasco, My bad. Was half asleep when I read the original posts.....forgive me for the mistaken identity booboo. Glad to hear it worked for you. Cheers Mate, Parky
  9. nvidia 190.38 drivers

Broadside, I've experienced the same phenomenon in the past (as have others). I found a solution that worked for me and a couple of others. Try changing your Anti-aliasing setting from within the Nvidia control panel. I've found that 8x does the trick for me. It may differ on your system, but try playing with it till you find a setting that works. (I recommend leaving the AA setting in CFS3 config alone. Make those adjustments at the driver level only). Hope this puts you on the right track....IR  Parky
  10. I'm pretty sure the main contributing factor to the DRI's "instability" was that it's wings had no dihedral angle whatsoever. Probably not a prudent plan to let go of the stick....particularly at low altitudes.
  11. Can we shut up Ringo?

Filled them with yellow matter custard...
  12. Is campaign dynamic

Thanks Winder, If you guys are "excited", I can't even begin to imagine what kind of magic tricks you might have up your sleeves. This is welcome news indeed. Some might wonder why my forum participation is somewhat limited recently. Simple- Too busy flying an already magnificent WWI sim. The wife hates it. Lots of potential marital partners around though, and only one Between Heaven and Hell. Easy math there.... Cheers, Parky
  13. Is campaign dynamic

    Did I just hear you say "P4" ??? ;)

  15. OT Swine Flu

    LOL......priceless......lolol
  16. DVD Cover

Just my humble opinion, but I think this thread should be introduced to the nearest trash can. It serves no useful purpose other than to put ideas in some people's heads, and to be completely frank, it quite simply just pisses me off. With all due respect, Parky
  17. XP-pro or XP media edition

If you wanna' gear your system towards HTPC use as well as gaming, go with Media Edition. As far as BHH performance goes, there should be no discernible difference between the two OS versions. Cheers, Parky
  18. Didn't know there was a hospital??!! That means you've never had your injuries treated by Nurse Gladys?? My God Man!!! You have no idea what you've been missing out on. Gladys has a bedside manner to die for (or at least get injured for). Not to mention, she has an amazing rack......full of magazines you can read while you're on the mend In all seriousness, I also tried the "true" DiD standard in campaign. Harsh reality is what that is. Lost so many pilots over a two week period I've chickened out and gone back to Death on die roll. Still occasionaly use the TAC to spot EA at distance as well. I find neither of those features hurts the immersion factor to any great degree. Flying without them is borderline masochism as far as I'm concerned....lol. Cheers, Parky
  19. Bob, Granted, UK may not be aware of some of the available enhancements/mods for IL2 1946 that litereally do transform it into something rather brilliant. I think his point was more intended to sing the praises of BHH than it was to engage in a putdown of IL2. No need to take his head off over it. Cheers guys, (Hi Frank) Best regards to both of you. Parky
  20. One of the Joys of Multiplayer

Yes Widowmaker. It should work. Three of you in a finger four adds up to one finger left over. Might I suggest you reserve the middle one. You can then use it for special occasions, such as when one of your wingmen accidently runs up your arse and takes your verticle stabilizer off. Cheers Mate, Parky
  21. OFF P3 is.....

Whoever the guy is that claims it's too "easy" and he's "ripping it"....dude, "full real"?? You need to turn off the labels, targeting cone, tac, easy flight model and invincibility. That should give us better than 90% in the poll who are quite comfortable with the way things can be scaled already. You sure you're playing the same sim??? Geez
  22. Hopefully not.....but even if you are, it would still be worth it. You're in for a treat!! Cheers, Parky
  23. If that is in fact a Ubisoft DVD you have there, you don't have to install CFS3 first. Shouldn't need the DVD in the drive to play either. Just double-checked the FAQ for you. Install BHH and it should prompt you for your CFS3 DVD when required. Cheers, Parky
  24. Don't install CFS3 (unless you want it installed for something other than BHH). Start from scratch with the BHH DVD, and you should have the option to extract the necessary CFS3 files from the CFS3 DVD during the installation process. Cheers, Parky
