Pull one stick of RAM out and run on the other two. See if the problem still exists. Wash, rinse and repeat....just to be absolutely sure it's not memory related. I'm inclined to believe you're right about it being a power issue though, as long as you've eliminated any overheating components as a possible culprit. Cheers, Parky

And that, Chaps, is one of the unique things you just have to love about this forum. Very, very nice gesture of you, Al. Outstanding!! Cheers, Parky

The 60hz refers to vertical refresh rates...not to be confused with horizontal scan rates. Anyway....the only reason I asked was it's rare to see 120hz refresh rates on PC monitors. It's quite common on the larger HT LCD's and it's not uncommon to see 240hz on some of the newer products. The 60hz refresh won't hinder your gaming exerience at all....or shouldn't. Would be nice though if you were to enable Vsync and get locked at 120fps as opposed to 60....lol. Bottom line is, it ain't really gonna' matter too much where OFF is concerned. Still a very, very nice monitor. Cheers, Parky

Duke, Maybe let us know what specific hardware you're looking at before you pull the trigger. I'm sure some of the others in here will offer additional and valuable input. One thing you should know. If you're going to be using this rig almost exclusively to fly OFF, the GTX580 would be a better choice than the 590. The GTX590 is dual-GPU and will default to SLI when running games that support it, which improves performance significantly over the 580 under those conditions. The single GPU on the 580 is clocked quite a bit higher than those on the 590 though, so in terms of running OFF, you should see better performance with the 580. Btw....that looks like an outstanding monitor you've chosen there. I took a quick look at it's specs and was unable to determine if it's strictly 60hz or if it's also capable of 120hz refresh rates. Any idea?? If not, I'll look into it a bit further and let you know. Cheers, Parky

Hmmmm, Sure sounds like it could be a power issue, but before you go spending money on a new PSU, make sure you don't have a bad memory stick. If anything put you way over the top, it would have been the graphics card upgrade. A typical HD will use somewhere in the vicinity of about 10w total...maybe a wopping great big 15w, even when it's being written to quite furiously. The GPU will use about 10x that, and often more depending on the card. The 5v and 12v demands of a HD are also pretty insignificant, although if the PSU's capabilites were only marginally exceeded, I can see how unplugging one of the HD's might make a difference temporarily. Cheers, Parky

Hi Duke, I'd probably go with one of the socket 1366 i7 series processors, preferably running @ 3 GHz-stock or higher (Unless you're into overclocking). The new Sandybridge is also an option you could look at, but don't go any lower than 3GHz. With regard to the GPU, I wouldn't go any lower than the GTX 570....the 580 if you can afford it, or if you really wanted a divorce, grab the GTX590. Depending on wether the motherboard you choose supports dual or triple channel memory configurations, I'd go with either 6 Gig triple channel or 8 Gig dual channel 1600Mhz (or higher) rated speeds. Whatever you do, make sure you put all of that on a decent motherboard. I prefer Asus, but Gigabyte and EVGA also make some pretty outstanding products.Congrats on winning that bet with the wife. Last time I gambled with mine, I lost my shirt, most of my dignity and a wad of cash. Cheers, Parky

Olham, Did you not have grandparents, never owned a pet, or never lived on a street of some sort?? You must have had a very interesting childhood... (You beat me to the punch with your 2nd post by about 4 seconds.....lololol) Cheers, Lord George-Ginger Queen -
Hi CWSF, If the previous suggestions don't fix the problem, here's something else you can look at (I'm assuming you're using Internet Explorer for now). In the top right of the browser, you'll find a little cog-wheel looking thingy that gets you into your "Tools" menu. Click it and go into "Internet Optiions". Under the "General" tab, you'll find a setting called "Browsing History". Make sure there's no checkmark in "Delete Browsing History On Exit". If that setting is enabled, it's erasing the cookies the forum requires to remember your login. Cheers, Parky

Olham, Do yourself (and us...lol) a favour. Go here: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ You can either grab the installer which will install this utility as a program, or you can choose the standalone version for your particular OS type (32-bit/64-bit). Run this proggie before the overclock to see what your normal idle temps are. Run your overclock and check the temperatures at idle again and let us know how it looks. 3.7 is quite tame for that processor and I wouldn't anticipate any significant temperature increases, but it's always wise to be cautious regardless of wether you're using manual or auto overclocking methods. Cheers, Parky

Not at all, Olham. Your Franglish is perfect. It's my Germlish that's lacking. Oddly enough, it's my Frigidaire that keeps things hot and I have a Samsung that keeps things cold. The Thrustmaster simply keeps my hands out of mischief. Hey Lou, I wonder if we could bribe one of the mods into changing Simon's username to "The Lustmaster Horndog" Cheers, Parky

Ok....I'll admit I am. Myself and a couple of other guys have been climbing the rather steep learning curve together online. Having an absolute BLAST with it, but might I be so bold as to say it's not for your average gamer who just wants to jump in an aircraft and shoot things. You can dummy down the settings to "boot-stupid", but at that point you're just depriving yourself of a pretty tough challenge and rich learning experience. What would be the point?? It's a brilliant sim all round nevertheless. The Theater of Operations may be somewhat limited, and I keep hearing people say they wish there was a dynamic campaign. The fact is, a reasonably talented mission-maker could put together a pretty entertaining campaign in a fairly short time. It may not be completely dynamic in nature, but if you utilize the available triggers and a bit of imagination, you can certainly make up for that shortcoming. There's also a pretty brillian quick mission generator that will keep things fresh, particularly when you can take the generated mission and tweak it to your heart's content for either mult-player or offline use. The flight model is nothing short of superb. The damage modelling is in the same class. The scenery is really eye-catching, and the overall environment is about as immersive as you could hope for. That's just my humble opinion of course, but all we do online when we're not busy painting a target with a laser, launching a Maverick at somebody or tearing the living shyt out of something with the GAU-8, is rave about what a fantastic product it is. These guys are pretty discerning chaps and have been simming for years. I don't think we could all be that dreadfully wrong with our appraisals. In fact, I think we're almost ready to come out of the closet as one little happy group of Hawg Jocks. Let the neighbors say what they will. We really don't care...lol. Regardless of how much I enjoy A-10, I'll still keep coming back to OFF for my WWI fix. Now if only the guys at 1C would hurry up and fix some of the rather annoying issues and shortcomings with Cliffs of Dover, I do believe I will have died and gone to Combat Flightsimming Heaven. Happy Easter, my friend. Parky

CFS3 Configuration won't save in Windows 7?
Parky replied to MikeDixonUK's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Mike, One other thing I suggest you look at. Go to that directory Pol mentions above C:\Users\YOUR LOGON NAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields and find the XML file called "ConfigOverrides". Right-click on it, select properties, and make sure it's not set to "Read Only". If it is, just remove that checkmark from the little box. Hit "Apply" and "Ok". Unlikely that it's read only, but perhaps something odd happened to User Permissions somewhere along the way. Worth checking I figure... Cheers, Parky -

You just got me in a heap of trouble, Olham. Didn't realize the bride was peeking over my shoulder while I was looking at that very candid and scintillating picture you chose to share with us. She did ask me to remind you that size really doesn't matter at all. It's not about the dimensions of your equipment. It's more about how far you can push your overclock and how long it'll last before becoming unstable. Can't tell you how pleased we are to see your new rig up, running and looking sharp as hell!! I figure now that we're all comfortable enough with eachother to share these most intimate images of our private lives, here's a little bit of porn just for you: I know, I know.......ridiculously expensive, but it is Easter after all. The bride offered me a choice between this and a chocolate bunny. It was a no-brainer to choose the item that comes with pretty green LED lights all over it And yes, I know.....I need to get some degreaser and clean up the side of that kitchen counter. Didn't even notice that crap until I looked at this picture. Must have been the flash that illuminated it so nicely....lol. The bride is actually a pretty good housekeeper.....really she is (Paulo.....those coolers are allegedly s'posed to be "nearly evaporation free". As Olham has indicated, they should be require no maintenance) Happy Easter Everybody!! Cheers, Parky

OT: What else are you playing right now besides OFF?
Parky replied to Javito1986's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Really surprised there only seems to be one guy in here flying DCS A-10 Warthog. I've been messing with it now for a few weeks, and it's nothing short of brilliant. Took me an entire weekend just to get the cold-start sequence figured out, and I still manage to screw it up every now and then. Very steep learning curve if you're inclined to go hard-core with it. The rewards are extremely gratifying though once you start to get the hang of things and manage to survive a sortie or two....particularly if you manage to actually destroy some targets. If you like a heavy dose of realism, this title is definitely worth a look. I think the guy who put this movie together manages to showcase some of it's features quite nicely. Perhaps he's got a future in Hollywood....damned impressive if you ask me. Cheers, Parky -
Simon, I ran into the same issue. I do believe it may be exclusive to ATI cards and Win7. No such problem with the new Nividia card. I do recall Polovski mentioning something about moving the TrackIR device off to the left of center (but that was with TrackIR 5 I think). If you have it mounted in the middle of your monitor, see if shifting it over helps. If it works, you owe Polovski a cold pint. Cheers, Parky

OT: Graphics Card Ponderages...
Parky replied to MikeDixonUK's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Mike, One other little thing you can look at that may be responsible for your 2D issues. Go into your Nvidia Control Panel/Manage 3D settings. By default the power management mode will be set to "Adaptive". Try switching that to "Prefer maximun performance". That should "force" the clocks on your card to stay at 3D levels. Your card'll run a fair bit warmer when not in a game, but I suspect it may be crapping out in 2D when the power state is going to idle. I had this problem with my 5970 when the clock speeds would drop to ridiculously low idle speeds. It would run in games just fine, but occasionally would lock up on me when I was just looking at a web page. Sound familiar? Solved it temporarily by creating a custom power profile and forcing it to load on boot, but had to wait for an updated BIOS from Sapphire which addressed it permanently. Cheers, Parky -

Very nice little clips there, Mike. I particularly like your choice of music from The Battle of Britain... Now on to your "slowdown" issues. Here's something I'd like you to try... Scroll back up to your Youtube vid, right-click in the middle of the video screen and then select "Settings". There's an option there to either enable or disable hardware acceleration. Whatever your's is set to....change it, then go browse the web a bit, watch some flash-based vids and see if your problem still exists. I'm working on a hunch here, but I have seen this setting cause weird issues on a couple of machines, so it may be worth a try. Cheers, Parky -
LMFAO!!!! Now that is funny...... Carrick, Not sure if you understood I was being "tongue in cheek" when I referred to it as being in it's "Beta" stage. What they've released is allegedly a finished product, or "final release". If they don't clean it up a great deal, and I mean in a considerable hurry, it may just well turn out to be their "final release" as a software publishing company......period. One thing I do know. The whole situation sure does make me appreciate the attention to detail and dedication we see from OBD when it comes to getting things right and doing things in a completely professional manner. Cheers, Parky

Hmmmmm, Can't help but notice the "Steam" release of this product has been pushed back to May 24th. Not surprised really. Mostly because I just got through playing around with this title for a good couple of hours, so now I have a pretty good idea of what it brings to the table. I'm not even going to bother offering up any sort of "critique" other than to say Oleg and his chaps have got a lot of hard work ahead of them. Quite possibly about another 6 years worth....lol. Regardless, if anyone in North America is interested in jumping the gun before the official "new" release date, here's what I discovered. It's quite possible to obtain and play the game now if you buy it from a certain site that will charge you $44.99 USD. If you pre-order it through Steam, it's going to run you $49.99 USD and you won't be able to install it or play it until May 24th. If however, you do what I did and buy a "Steam Key" here, it'll cost you $32.49 in Canadian dollars, and you'll be able to install and play it right away via the Steam client. Go figure.... The way I see it, the more "Beta" testers there are out there, the sooner this title will get fixed due to an even bigger avalanche of hostile feedback...... This has been a Public Disservice Announcement Cheers, Parky

"Got".....as in past tense. You don't get one with the purchase of the card, if that's what you mean. I did get a really good deal on it though. It pays to be in good with the boyz at Canada Computers. I throw them a lot of business, and as is often the case, one hand washes the other it would seem.... I assume what you're asking is if there's any benefit to having a graphics accelerator that's capable of DX11 when you're running a game that was written to run in DX9 and on a single CPU core?? Nope.....no benefit at all. I bought this latest card strictly for bragging rights, and to piss the ol' lady off a bit (or maybe a whole lot). Seriously though....I run a handful of very recent games that can take full advantage of all the bells and whistles this card comes with. For me, it's a worthwhile investment. I wouldn't run out and buy one just to play OFF, but I have to admit, the brief testing I've done with OFF and this card have yielded very impressive results. Which brings me to this: One card you didn't mention as a possible choice earlier was the GTX 570. Don't overlook it. It's excellent bang for your buck and will provide you with a very good gaming experience.....regardless of the limitations the rest of your system may bring to the table. A friend of mine picked an EVGA up from NewEgg recently....the model he got has a lifetime warranty. Can't sneeze at the peace of mind that offers. Just a thought of course. I'm not suggesting you spend more money than you need to... Cheers, Parky
