Its no fun unless its DID, are we masochists?
Ras replied to appraiserfl's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thanks. I will be checking it out later today, hopefully. Sometimes work has to come first. Don't you hate that? And the "+" key on the numerical keyboard will be easier to find than "]" and "[" -

Yes, I do use the zoom in and out feature. I find it difficult to look at the keyboard and find those keys without losing my concentration. And have no more buttons on joystick to use...the zoom in/out is a feature that I probably don't use enough. As far as FOV I would have no idea how to set that up. Is it something in the workshop area or from the computer desktop? I might have one of the smaller monitors around in that it is a 15", but at least it is a flatscreen. Maybe next year I can get a 19 or 21" , but I am not sure if that is something that helps either. Thanks for your help -
Finally got back and ordered the sim

Welcome, Conrad. You're gonna love it. Lived for a while in Oscoda, must be not too far north of where you ended. Enjoy the good life and be glad you are out of the rat race -

In Did or as a matter of fact any set up in BhaH, I have often wondered about what can be seen. I think it was Olham who said in a post that once you lose sight of your enemy it is very, very difficult to spot him again. And I think it was many weeks ago, it was UncleAl and others that said when one gets older; or has a small screen; poorer graphics card, it is so difficult to spot an enemy. I don't know how I have survived with my 2nd pilot in Krauts vs. Crumpets as long as I have. Last night, I had my 4 1/2 year old grandson at the joystick controls. I had everything set so he could shoot as long as he wanted. And believe me it was fun. He was pulling the trigger on anything in sight. Trees, buildings, the moon, and the rare aircraft. Speaking of which I sat back and it was unbelievable how small they appear at 1 or 2 miles. I am not a real pilot, but I have quite a few hours as a passenger/copilot in small aircraft . Having seen my share of aircraft at a distance, I unfortunately have to say that we are very, very handicapped in this sim when it comes to spotting the enemy. I love it all as we have enumerated hundreds of times, but we must keep that in to consideration. -
THere was a time when it was on the internet. I had a chance to watch it and then it was removed. Would like to see it on a big screen of course. I thoroghly enjoy it.

Simon, that looks just great. May I suggest that you made one small mistake? You didn't take the Sopwith Tripe up that you made for me and include it. Seriously, I love the style and some very beautiful screen shots. Poster quality

Yes, Olham, those are beautiful pictures of the sky, sun, and horizon. I love screenshots like those -
No flights for me since I sent one in about 36 hours ago, but it is interesting to see the numbers build. And yes, i would like to see the numbers transfer, I thought it was going to be so?

On Wednesday, Nov 11, is a special day. There are a number of different names for it. In the USA, it was originally called Armistice Day and later changed to Veterans Day. Though I am not sure when that occurred, I am posting a few pics that were also posted by a fellow veteran of the Vietnam War. I don't know my history at all of the cemeteries in France and Germany of WW1, and many of you have seen these before. But with his permission I will start this thread so WE SHALL NEVER FORGET. The first photo is of the Meuse-Argonne cemetery with the second being the L'Escadrille Lafayette Memorial (I thnk)

Not a Jyrene, BH, but one of my best buddies was. He departed in June 1966 in SEA. I was going to join up with him but was only 17 at the time and he was 18. My ole Pappy wouldn't sign for me.. ("Father Knows Best") as he was at Ardennes and other unspeakeable places in WW2 ) and he knew may have saved my life. I wish I could have told him that. But Hapy Birthday all of you fine Men

I am one of probably just a handful that was not interested in WW 1/aviation; and had only played Red Baron on a friends computer many years ago. I was always into the modern aircraft combat flight sims. A progression to FSX and now I hardly ever fly a fast mover (jet) anymore. So, I am very, very new to this genre, and have been reading many novels (In the Company of Eagles by Ernest K. Gann at the present and then "To the Last Man", by Jeff Schaara is next) and trying to watch every movie ever made that included WW1 aircraft... Well, you get the picture. I had Phase 2 for a while and when I received OFF I was hooked for a long time. As others have said, it has been a wonderful experience.

Wondering if this add on with the features especially like ground traffic will tax our lower end systems? I am about at my lilmit now and it will be a couple of years before I dare say I could use and afford a new computer.

A strange question, but it comes from this. Tonight for my meal, I ate some brats (not quite like bratworst in the plane that RAF Louvert made for me some weeks ago, "Where's the bratworst?) and also had some fresh rutabagas. Now, I don't know if I spelled that right, but it got me to thinking about the turnips that have been referred to in our Did campaign. So, now this game is making me think like another game that I believe some of you on this forum were a part of. I could be wrong. But Silent Hunter 3 and then especially for me SH4 was a great sub game of WW2 that I did love. I got so immersed in this game that I would be on the coast of Texas or on one of my many small lakes in Minnesota and would look at a ship or "boat" and start figuring out bearings and time to target and etc. I could almost see the explosion as the torpedo hit the hull. WOW.. I think I am starting to sound like BH. No offense sir, i love your look on life. Very similar to mine. So, do you now look at an airplane in the sky and wonder how much you have to lead it in order to take it down? Do you look at the rain and imagine flying in your Strutter, or Albatross or Fokker or Sopwith and try to think of what it would feel like when the rain pelted the skin on your face? Life is GOOD

Good luck, RC. I don't know much at all about this sort but sounds like what Lou is saying makes sense. Hopefully you can keep your pilot..

Cod liver oil must have been the rage all over the world. Every morning before school we had to have a teaspoon or maybe a tablespoon of it. Could never spit it out, because she would make sure we swallowed it. The younger generations have never heard of it.

What a beautiful plane. Imagine the pride that the mechanics or painters and then the pilots had when they went into the air. Amazing -

That is a nice screenshot, Vidken. And that beautiful plane. That one isn't stock "in the game" is it? Did you make that skin? -
Not sure how to do the photos, but you can change the names in the squadron by following these instructions. Mind you, one has to be very careful as one wrong move can make a mix of things. check this thread: http://forum.combata...n-roster-names/

DiD Campaign Pilot Log M Mountjoy-Standfast
Ras replied to Stiffy's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Stiffy. A wonderful report and dissertation of your exploit. I love reading this kind of stuff. I love writing too, but I am so new to this era of aviation, it just doesn't come to me. I will leave it up to all of you fellows-both on the good sid and the "DARK" -
Yes sir, thanks for the tips. I'll give it another try if it looks like I might live thru the week

Good job on your first flight, Red- Dog. After some slight problems, I did get up also today, rather than wait until Nov 5. I didn't have the camera, but I survived! -
Thanks, Rickity. For now I am going to leave this alone, or at least try it on a different pilot. Luckily I had only flown one mission, but it was still one. Wish I would have just deleted the one pilot, but oh well, live and learn

DiD Campaign Pilot Log Entries of RAF_Louvert, (beginning 10/30/1916)
Ras replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Nice report, Sir. Looks very professional looking -
DON't MAKE THE MISTAKE that I did. I had flown a successful mission that started yesterday. Then I decided to go in and put in the names of my squadron mates (Creaghorns suggestion, that Macklroy pointed me too) and I was careless. I saved the info and went back to fly today and everything was messed up. I received pilot error messages and etc. I come to find out that I did not realize there was a semi-colon or whatever it is called between the first and last names of the pilot. In meantime I had to delete all of my pilots in the workshop. The bad part of this is two fold. One I have to start over, and thus I am going to wait until the date that I get the Strutter 1 1/2 so that I have a gunner...but more important I had kept my best pilots which most were deceased or in captivity and lost all of them. So the war goes on.

Thats cool, I hang on to your wing tighter than a you know what! I must have missed how this is done. Will look back for the instructions.
