  1. great poll . i would vote for less hollywood effects, but more accurate physics DM. e.g. that AI AC doesn't turn simply into a pile when crashing, but have only damage what touches the ground. same for own AC. or when touching wings in flight, not only visual damage, but apropriate physics and forces on impact, like it is in RB or the other sim
  2. in various literature they said that they could hear the enemies guns rather well and mostly they could also feel the impacts of the bullets. no matter if canvas or wood
  3. M I A - Missing in action

i hope you are wrong. he was always very active here with his command map and his vids etc., and suddenly nothing...
  4. i agree. for those who like to have labels, it's a great solution
  5. i agree. at least for me. maybe it's also a matter of screen and res you fly with. i have a 26" screen with native res 1920x1200, and depending on which weather and which lighting, i can see specks up to 7-8 nm. for me that's ok. and i agree that all those labels are a big time immersion killer. visible or not. at least for me. of course you can see more sharp in real life than on screen, but in real life they wore goggles, so the peripherical view was affected also, so maybe comparable to a screen. also in BHAH you don't have to deal with dirty goggles, particels of oil etc., cold, foggy goggles and windshields, sun which really makes objects invisible when looking near it (in BHAH the sun is bright, but doesn't hide the enemy nor does it hurt you). the other point is, that you in sims mostly know more about the enemy than the pilots in real life did. and labels take away this immersion also IMHO. in real they hardly ever knew who they fought against. udet guynemer duel is rather the exception that udet knew that it was guynemer. they didn't have a dogfight where the pilot saw a squirrel on the enemies fuselage and knew, that's baptiste pierre d' jean paul belmondo d' orleans. mccudden often fought "greentail" and never knew who he was. actually he fought different greentails (jasta 5) and thought it was the same enemy. in the vossfight they didn't know if it's voss, wolff or richthofen until finding the dead body. same goes for albert ball. what i'm trying to say is that if you see some special markings of the most successfull enemies, you might know who he is. ok, richthofen is red, at least partially. voss has a heart on the fuselage etc. but i doubt strongly that they knew every enemie because of his markings. they didn't even realized it was richthofen until they found his papers in the jacket (probably all pilots knew who he was, maybe not every ordinary australian m.g. gunner) of course it's more fun to know who you fight against. but the realism should be that you don't know until you shoot him down, he doesn't burn to a crisp and he fells on your side of the lines. anyway. for me labels are no go. but everybody as he likes
  6. as i said before, i think AI in p4 will be improved and will have more sense for survival, which would be a HUGHE step towards realism. but to make the simmer have more of a feeling to take care about his alter ego, there should be an option to have a realistic PITA when creating a new campaignpilot. a pilots carreer starts in flightschool, not at the front. so why not (if possible) have an option where one has to go through flightschool and earn the wings and then going to the front. if somebody loses easily his pilot, he has to do the whole procedure again. maybe some unhistorical airfield somewhere with a flightschool squadron, where a pilot has to do some missions, reach waypoints, make dead stick landings on certain spots, have dummy dogfights, landings at open fields etc. and doing that till one has a certain amount of flying hours (maybe dependable of which country and what period of time you are flying for. germany more hours to pass, brits rather less etc.) maybe have different flyschool mission version for twoseater pilots and for scout pilots. and then maybe also have an on/off option where you automatically, after passing the "exams" get transferred to a squadron which is randomly generated. so you don't know in which squadron you'll end as a rookie. sorry for going offtopic a bit.
  7. OFF already has one of the most living enviroments in the flying sim-world, so definitely i'm just spoiled, but i have an idea or better, something i want to point out. one thing i noticed is that 99% of the vehicles, people etc. are military related. so if you are flying and see a group of men, you know they are soldiers. if you see cars etc, you know it's a convoy. there is no civil life, besides the houses and farms. the towns and villages are as lifeless as paris in ww2 when hitler was going out for a walk. maybe as a suggestion for p4. how about adding many more of the civil people who are living in this country? if we have cars driving around airfields, why don't add civil cars or lorries or carriages in towns, driving through the streets. groups of civil people, man an women, walking through the streets? at farms having horses and farmers. having groups of refugess at the open streets, maybe at the front or at destroyed villages, dead horses etc. many more of civil life and people who actually live in this country. so if you are out for a strafe run you have to look first, is it the enemy or just a group of civil people. is it a convoy or just some carriages of refugees. i don't think it's too resource hungry but maybe i'm wrong. maybe to hard to do. might be dependable of the density setting. just an idea for p4
  8. Another type of headgear

wondering how you're supposed to do keystrokes while having those glasses on . anyway. looks awesome. but there's no trackir built in, so you'll have a big virtual screen in front of your eyes, but moving your head doesn't do anything, does it?
  9. Another type of headgear

anybody tried it yet? is it more cpu or gpu demanding than on normal screen? what's the native resolution? looks awesome. but pricey of course

  14. Flying time still not correct?

i'm pretty sure i had also some posts where i sounded rather unfriendly about this and that although not my intention. but if the people here know what you actually mean and when they know that's not meant unfriendly, then it's no problem. . we are mostly gentleman here, and mostly behave like that. so please never hesitate to ask something or point something out.
  15. Flying time still not correct?

imo it's not the fact you are pointing to some issues. it's rather the style of how. like someone in the restaurant who's constantly asking for the waiter to complain about something. too much salt. spoon too big etc. maybe because english is not your native language. if so, i have sometimes the same problem, when it sounds more harsh then i meant. don't know. but it sounds like "why did they sell me this faulty BS. i want my money back". i'm not saying it is that way, but it sounds like that. if you look at your past threads you've started, it's always some critizism. of course everybody can share opinions and critisize, but if it's constantly just critisism, without anything else, than it might happen like this. i'm sure the devs know every lack or issue and they are working very hard.
  16. Fokker EIII FM Comparisons

that's exactly my opinion too, sir. i think the EIII is modeled quite well in BHAH. airwar was rather unknown. in those times they thougt the best way to fight in the air is to have a pilot and a gunner, till garros and then the fokkers at least showed the idea of a better way. also that the scourge were in real just a small group of successfull men like immelmann, boelcke, mulzer, wintgens etc. still no real airwar. the scary thing for the entente and maybe the birth of the myth is the simple fact that there was an AC out there with the single purpose of shooting other AC down. before that with all other AC the were recon, small bombers, artillery directors etc., and just by the way every now and then, attacking other AC. but when suddenly you hear there are some monsters out there, only designed for fighting in the air, you'll be scared too if going out to the next sortie. mccudden wrote that he has seen mostly single eindeckers, seldom more and maximum 3 in a group. they never really fought. only tried to surprise out of the sun with one or two attacks and then ran away. he has seen immelmann several times and concluded that he would never fight, not even against numerical even odds. also he mentioned that in summer of 1916 the germans must have had a big problem because from july or august the eindeckers simply disappeared and there was nothing out there from the german side to prevent them from doing their recon jobs etc. no fighters at all (that was the time when the successfull fokker pilots fell one after another and boelcke was sent out to reorganize the system and to look for good pilots to build jasta 2. also the germans realizied that there were more of the better allied scouts like nieuport 11 and DH2's.) i doubt there were lot dogfights between eindeckers and allied scouts. also that eindeckers flew untill september or longer, depending on the jasta. i think, regarding to mccuddens book, the simply grounded them or didn't have any more because they didn't produce them longer from august 1916 and then didn't much hunting at all till the Albatros D2 or the fokker d2 etc. appeared.

  18. Burst Effect of AA artillery

that's what i observed also. IMHO the AA is too fatal. i rather think that shrapnelhits, as long not directly into engine or cockpit should rip canvas, splinter some wood etc., but not explode with all wings falling off burning all the way down.
  19. the previous posted no-tracer and withtracer effectfiles work quite well, but the trailersmoke effect file (the version where the bullets leave a trail of white smoke behind) was too unvisible. JFM was so kind to send me a picture of Rudolph Berthold shooting trailersmoke bullets, thank you JFM! they are indeed very white and rather good visible. so i created an improved version of the effectfile where it matches the look in the pic quite good. it also takes a bit longer to fade away. for anybody who wants to try it, here is the improved effectfile ready for download in the downloadsection (as soon as it's approved). please first copy the original effectfile and paste it somewhere on your rig where it's save. then copy this effect version and paste it into C:\OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields it's not an own creation though. i combined an existing OBD file with Rabu's version of smoketrail and tweaked it a bit. so credit should go to them. Hellshade was so kind to make a short vid, so everybody can take a look at it before trying. please note that no matter which HD version you look at, youtube vids always have a loss of quality, so it's best to watch it fullscreen. in the sim it looks much better of course. here it is thank you hellshade! (btw. the last seconds are very breathtaking. good job) original content are owned by OBD. have fun creaghorn
  20. Improved Effects trailersmoke

did you extract the DL and drop the whole folder in the main OFF folder, or did you copy the effect file inside the folder and pasted it in the main OFF folder? because it works only if you do the latter one. you copy the effect file, not the complete folder. then you drop the effectfile into the main folder. it should ask you to overwrite the previous effect file (in win7 or vista you choose the first option at the top). that overwrites the previous one and then it must work. you'll see white smoketrails. sorry if you did so already, but somewhere you must have made a mistake doing that, .
  21. Improved Effects trailersmoke

in the first ammo mod there are 3 effect files. one without anything visible, one with smoketrail and one with tracer bullets. since the version with smoketrail wasn't too good i made a new one. so from the previous version you use only the version without anything visible or with tracers (with tracers is obviously what you have currently). if you want to use trailersmoke bullets, then DL the latest version and drop the effectfile into your OFF folder. that's it.
  22. Improved Effects trailersmoke

i can only say how i'm doing it, so it's not necessarily right. but from different literature and biographies etc. i know that the various bullets existed from the beginning, and for sure some individuals used them before, but common usage among airman began from 1917 on. you can't emulate it correctly at the moment in BHAH, since you don't have the different bullets with the different problems. for instance the smoketrail bullets sometimes had a strange flying characteristic, since they were heavier then normal bullets, but with the smoke behind they got lighter during the flight, affecting the ballistic curve etc. also currently one bulletversion goes for you and the enemy. currently it's not possible for you to have tracers and the enemy have non visible etc. maybe p4? also there are no incendiary bullets yet. usually one used incendiary bullets only for ballon or zeppelin hunt with a permission in the jacket for using them. if getting into captivity without it or if hunting other AC with incendiary bullets, then they had the right to shoot you. in later airwar the usage of incendiary for fighting AC was common. to get it to the point. since the possibilities are limited currently, i do it like this. i use non visible till late 1916 or early 1917. then trailersmoke or tracers. but you can do it how you like. i think most people here would use only one type anyway, which they like best, without swapping effect files. but that's how i'm doing it
  23. Improved Effects trailersmoke

you don't swap any dds files. you just use the effect file. the file knows which dds file to use and which not. no need to swap the dds files around
