  1. working on an alternate map

very good job, WK. where exactly is the difference between this version and the version you posted some weeks ago?
  2. i don't know if there is any sim yet with this feature, but it would add a lot of realistic feel in the sim, if possible. one thing which is missing in most, if not in all sims (also racedriving sims etc.) is experience of g-forces. of course physically not possible (at least you don't have those moving chairs like in flightschools) what would emulate g-forces is not only the movement from the aircraft, but a seperate movement of the pilot sitting inside. right now it's static with the cockpit. if the aircraft is thrown around, the head stays exactly where it is. how about adding a seperate pilot buffeting, depending on speed, momentum and g-forces?. e.g. if you go into a steep dive, the POV should throw you back before coming back, if going into a sudden climb, POV should throw you towards the panel, if on a tight left turn, POV should shift you a bit to the right side of cockpit etc. like in rollercoasters or normal cardriving. here a primitive, but nonetheless good visual about what i mean. watch the craft and watch the pilot inside. of course should be made more professional in all axis depending ond g-forces.
  3. idea for more realism for p4

same here. but it would be cool if there would be some feature wich forces you a little bit in some POV directions. on the other hand that might confuse trackir with all it's moves and your headadjustments and in the end you're sitting upside down in your chair to have a straight view when the dogfight is over
  4. How things have changed

BHAH is the next step of evolution of red baron. a worthy successor in a new decade. vanilla rb3d was the neaderthaler and hells' angels superpatch and WFP was the step to homo sapiens. nonetheless there are still things in red baron 3d manager wich are still unbeaten today. you could get slightly wounded, wounded for months or get maimed and end the carreer beeing alive, you couldn't only get in prison and stay there for the rest of the war or escape, there was also a chance you can get repatriated. you coud get transeferred into better squadrons by request (wich could be denied) or by order. you could also get transferred into a lesser squadron when not doing your task properly enough. you could get grounded, executed, inprisoned or thrown out of flying duty when accidentally shooting down own mates or damaging enemy ambulance cars. sometimes there was an investiagtion by war trial wich was thrown in the paperbasket for the sake of spirit in the squad. when you damaged e.g. your alb DII you sometimes hat to fly the halb and wait some days for a new alb. or if several of your ac got damaged, in the next mission or days some members were grounded because there were not enough ac available for some days. a lot more things. BHAH manager is partially there were rb3d manager was, but for sure we'll get there sooner or later
  5. Guns folder

I'm not sure if i broke something, so i hope somebody can just confirm that everything is as it should. when going into "guns" folder, besides all those files, there are 3 ordinary textfiles saying: AIgunsNomal reargunsNormal PlayergunsHard playerguns hard? my settings in workshop are playerguns normal or realistic (forgot the term). so shouldn't in the guns folder the textfile also be playergunsNormal? i run into it accidentally when i lowered the spandau rate of fire to 6 per second. something i wanted to lower anyway because in some forum it was calculated that in average it was about 350 rounds per minute and when i watched blue max the other day the rate of fire was a lot slower also. especially when otto said that 40 rounds are 2 bursts of 3 seconds each, which mathematically confirms the calculation of 350 rounds per minute. anyway, is this textfile playergunshard normal and does everybody has it, or did i screw up something?
  6. Guns folder

jesus, i'm so stupid. i was looking like spike in tom&jerry when he looks into the mirror realizing he got tricked and turns into a donkey playergunsHard means it's hard for the player to damage the enemy. i thought it means the impact of the bullet is harder and easier to damage. so it IS how it should be. the other thing is i was changing it in the wrong folder. the right files are in the ww1 scenerie folder where i changed the rof in the Difficulty Hard folder to 6. now it keeps at 6. thank you, though, prop
  7. Guns folder

ok. found out that xml-files always jump to default 9,... rounds/second after each mission. textfile playergunsHard is dated back to 2006 or something. so it seems it's not new. i threw the backed up xml files back and tried some QC. seems to be normal again, but i'll see it in campaign. don't want to have a kill with 2 bullets so i'll see if it's restored again.
  8. Guns folder

sounds like a plan. thank you for the advice. will do it as soon as i can and report.
  9. Guns folder

nonetheless, if it's only information, it says playergunsHard. so it seems it's probably set somewhere at hard, or am i wrong? additionally on my last mission i shot down two FE's with just a view bullets to pieces.would somebody please take a look in his folder and tell what playergun textfile it's said in his? can it be that the two spandauair xml files, where i decreeased rof from 8,... to 6 have caused it?
  10. idea for more realism for p4

oh, wasn't aware about that. ok. so everybody knows what i'm talking about
  11. idea for more realism for p4

yes. but trackir movements are my head movements, not forced additional POV or shift movements by g-force. e.g. if i don't move my head at all in a spin, then nothing happens to my position at all.
  12. The Pfalz IIIa is Killing Me!

usually when flying with FF joystick, you'll feel a "death-rattle" shortly before stalling. if you're sensitive enough you can dance on the edge of it (feel a slightly rattle, so adjust with pedals and let off a bit etc.), without stalling. need some practice. but of course in the heat of battle it happens now and then. sometimes this spin even saves your life, so don't hesitate to spin on purpose to shake some pursuer off. there is also some message (red?) wich appears shortly before stalling. at least only if not switched off.
  13. as i've seen siggis thread and i remembered that i own about 100 original handwritten letters from a german trench soldier, which he sent to his wife and others. unfortunately they are written in "sütterlin", the old german writing style, and i can't read a single word because i never learned this style. that's almost as different as greek letters. so maybe an interesting project. is there anybody outthere who can read sütterlin? how about me scanning a letter every week or so and this someone translates it into typed style (and maybe even translated in english) and posting it in this forum? would be maybe like reports from the front. only from a real person. additionally that would honor this soldier in a way.
  14. That "other WW1 flight sim"

that's exactly the sim wich infected me with the WW1 aviation virus . would love to see the complete diary in the net somewhere.
  15. That "other WW1 flight sim"

actualy i'm pretty bored of the dejavu threads over and over again. all that conversations we had now at least 10 times now. somebody mentions RoF, and then it starts all over again with comparisons etc. . anyway in fact the disappointment about RoF gave BHAH a sales boost. so everybody here already has profit because of it and that made creating p4 possible. i'm also quite unimpressed about the scenerie. reminds me of teletubby land, but on the other hand some things rof has, were or are still missing in BHAH, so that's always a good possibility to check what's missing and what can be improved, and vice versa. that's evolution. probably because there are two sims, BHAH has improved in some things quicker, and maybe because there is BHAH, the RoF devs are trying to sort the bugs out to stay in the game. i remember to have seen tracers in a RoF video almost a year ago and asked if it can be implemented. suddenly some people (me including) tried to create some tracers etc. and it was a success (prop wäsche made it happen if i remember correctly, sorry if i'm wrong). wind buffeting was missing, a hughe realism factor wich RoF always had. now it's also in BHAH. maybe in p4 there would be more bumpy fields and airfields, which RoF already has. dunno, all i can say is that it's good that there are two major WW1 sims to learn from each other. reminds me a little bit about the quick improvements with aircrafts in WW1 because one side always had the upper hand for different reasons.
  16. i once found in internet a site of a old people home, who are offering to translate letters etc. from sütterlin into readable writing to keep the brains in shape. a very good idea. i sent them a letter with some copies of it and it says it can take a while. but that was about 2 years ago so i dropped this idea. there are offices who also can translate it but it's serious money they want. he's not my direct ancestor but the box was in a house of the grand grandfather of my ex ex girlfriend who died and where i helped to clean all the stuff. they almost threw this box away and i took and kept it. inside the box was also a shrapnel, wrapped into a quick and hasty written letter where he wrote that this shrapnel was made of an old churchbell and wich missed him only by inches. there was also a metal cigarette box, completely in good shape and funktional. the people didn't even know what they were about to throw away . but i received a pm and have a "victim" now. i'll scan it and send for the beginning a short letter so he can see if he can read it as good as the letters of his grandfather. after that he or i are going to translate it into english and post it here. at least that's the plan. thank you very much for your offer LtCasey!!!
  17. unfortunately Sütterlin is a dying artform of writing. if you remember e.G. MvR.'s autograph or his last will etc. that's all written in sütterlin. that was pretty common those days for quick writing. but within the time people who can read it are getting fewer and fewer.
  18. he survived and spent a happy life afterwards as a professor in a university. he was a smart guy. some letters are also in french, some even in greek. i was able to get one or two pages so far translated into normal letters. one was a kind of limerick where he told about the bad things in the trenches, but in a funny limerick style, probably i believe, to pass the censorship or for his little son in germany, to make him a little bit understand what happens.
  19. Track IR 5 & Clip Pro Question

i second that. bought the track clip pro a year ago. very unreliable, only fits on a headset (i don't use headset). never was really able to set it up. on the other hand the normal track clip works perfectly. cap is on about the same place each time (though only about 25 years of experience in wearing caps). track clip landed back in the box and is stored somewhere unused. waste of money imho.
  20. i agree. i was too thinking rof with synchronisized spandau might be a bit too high. i think the devs used 500 rpm which is not too unrealistic. i thought about tinkering around and reducing it to about 440 rpm, but on the other hand with 500 it's fine. rof depending on revs of prop would be a great feature, but as long as i have seen the prop is only engine dependent in BHAH. flight speed itself (stall, hanging on prop, dive etc.) doesn't affect the prop at all (should slow down or even stop when hanging on the prop or with shut down engine increasing on a dive). would be great if it would be implemented in p4.
  21. http://stahlgewitter.wordpress.com/download-bucher/ here you have a link with lot of interesting stuff for free download. if you scroll down there are english books. most of them aviation related. it's not the usual ww1 book stuff (sagittarius rising, flying fury, blah) but lot of official manuals about map reading, photographing, battles, how to behave on gas attacks etc.
  22. the mirror looks really beautiful and reflects the current scenerie quite good, though not usable. i don't think it was useful in real either. it doesn't reflect the enemy behind you, but it's nice to look at. in heavy crates like rolands with unsensitive sticks, she likes to drift a lot to the sides, it happens sometimes that i get completely lost in a cloud and can't tell where i'm drifting at the moment. just feel the pressure on my stick and hear the wind to tell if i'm diving and just guessing where i'm heading right now. fortunately the mirror doesn't reflect incloud fog, so i can use it (though unrealistic) as a horizon to level myself again.
  23. as long as i know it doesn't work with ati cards. it also doesn't work if AC setting is not set to 5. but i might be wrong.
