P1 and P2 were available on line and our server costs were horrific it wasn't just the downloads, it was the repeat downloads because of corruptions, etc. The voluntary donations didn't come close to supporting the costs of the number of free downloads and that is one of the reasons we went with the DVD pay route. Most players don't have a problem with waiting, I have only seen a few complaints out of hundreds who wait patiently, so... patience, grass hopper. When youy get it I think you will agree it was well worth the short wait.

That looks grat, RC! And, I'm honored you choose my ESC89 Noop for the cover.

Wheww... would hate to loose you!

It was a Christmas present from my wife in 2005 and I still enjoy getting it out and looking through it.. beautiful photos, artwork and quotes from Cecil Lewis... the ultimate WWI coffee table book. They came out with a later version that included a CD of recordings of WWI planes.

Not to hijack this thread, but more importantly, where is Gimpyguy?

Neat shot.. Wels: That second shot of the CP is neat too, looks like you found the "Eyepoint" commands? -
You just about nailed it. When I make the skins I often have to find out where the key edges are by frequent flight tests and screenshots, then adjustments to the patterns so that the seams match.. that's probably the hardest part, especially if the model has any distortion, which happens frequently. My process was to create outlines of where I thought the edges were on a plain white painted plane texture sheet, then I would fly and screen shoot, adjust the outlines, fly and screen shoot, etc., until I had the edges perfect (as much as possible). It also helped me to label the different parts, which I did with most of the Nieuport, Spade and Camel skins I created. On the Navida website there is a free program to create thumbnails in Windows Explorer, another one called WTV which allows you to open a dds file full screen and gives important info about it. There is also a free plug in for Photoshop and other similar editors that allows you to open and save a dds file. Anyway, have fun.

I had a similar problem, when changing from outside to CP view, the engine sound would get way to loud. Then, when I changed my acceleration stick lever to off and back on it would change back to the interior engine sound level. It turned out to be the sound card drivers. When I updated them the problem disappeared. I have an older SB Audigy 2 ZS

I really don't remember, just select the main OFF folder and do a Windows search for "tracers" and it will show you the files "tracers," then right click and selct to go to the file location.

The main problem, besides not being able to see it much from the CP view is that it just doesn't last long enough to be able to see it very well. Also, Creighorn, all those shots are in low, stormy lighting, in brighter lighting I think you will find it even harder to see them. No, I doubt there is much we can do about it, and it would be low on the priority list, but I appreciate all your input and experiments. You're welcome to use it any way you want. If you start changing the actual image size though, you might cause some problems, so best not mess with that. Cheers.

Yes, I had some run ins with Helton, was that the one where he claimed he had invented the stealth bomber idea and it was stolen from him by the military?

It takes awhile to get used to and the physical setup is important.. distance from the camera, angle, light in the room. I have the TrackIR3 with the added view software and found it for less then $100 on Ebay. TIR4 includes the extra view software and is apparently a bit faster and has a wider view, but lots of others are happy with the v3.

Or.. how about "The Roger-Dodger" There is a whole list of links to videos of home built moving CPs like this here (click)

About 40,000 Link trainers were made back in the 1930's.. would be interesting to modify one for OFF?
-
I just messed around with it some more and now I remember what the problem was.. the smoke trail doesn't last long enough to look like a smoke trail and it isn't that visible from in CP.

Nice skin, Chris. Don't know what card you got, but your scenery looks like it is set to 16bit color instead of 32 bit.. especially noticeable in the banding in the sky. In the OFF workshop open the display options (OFF config.exe) and under the file menu change your display options to your monitors screen res and color depth. I have mine set to my 22" LCD 1680x1050 x 32bit color. Then under the file menu choose exit (don't exit using the "X" top right button) -
I was going to bring that up too, you beat me to it. Nice work HB Don't know how the others feel, but I personally think having the CFS3 commands included that aren't used in OFF just makes the list more confusing, even if they are in red. You don't really need them, so why not just leave them off, ie: Why not just leave them OFF?

I seem to remember some guy (quite awhile ago) posting pictures of his mock fuselage/CP set up with joy stick/stick, huge projection screen in front of him and the guy was trying to figure out how he could get the whole thing to move with the game movements. There actually is a flight sim cage that does that, maybe some one has the link to the company that makes it?

I hope it will too.

Thank you, "Professor." I made a lot of good friends back then from players who used my patches and Delphi RB forum members, lots of interesting discussions on early flight and the game itself. It's too bad some were so caught up in their little sorority like "in" groups though, and the Delphi forum flames and rants got so ugly in the later years. I see a very different attitude with most of the OFF members here and although the occasional rants and the snubs are apparently going to continue by a few, it's most refreshing to have the OFF forum we have today. I dug around some of my back up disks and found a few screen shots that bring back memories.. Here's a neat Hell's Angels screen with art work by Mark Miller OVS and I used on the On-The-Edge website. And, I used this announcement screen shot below years before that when I came out with my "full snow" patch before the 4-Seasons terrain patch. Looks pretty primitive compared to what we have today in OFF.

Thanks.

What ever happened to Rens? The only thing missing in those articles was the tremendous amount of work that went into the terrain mods that Kessler, me, and a few others worked on independently. I was in from the beginning and it was like working on a jig saw puzzle figuring out how the each terrain tile would be able to interlock with any other one with out showing seams, figuring out the horrible, limited palette which tended to leave glowing pixels in low light flying if anti aliasing was used during the tile painting process. How to get the different seasons to work together since they shared common tiles, etc., Besides the first early 2d terrain, I brought out the first set that had all four seasons, hence my early patch called 4-Seasons and the first with full winter snow. With Rens technical help I was also able to finally put the terrain tiles in the compressed game file that had before always been unaccessable and had previously required the files to be in slower loading, less stable folders. I really don't know how I found time to work on all that back then.. the final achievement was really putting everything together in the OVS Hell's angels mega patch. He really was able to organize everything and everyone to pull together for one achievement and it was the most stable and easiest to install of all of them IMHO. Yep.. been a long time

I agree about FB, but it sure was fun. I just couldn't get past the historical visuals with all those plane logos and wrong colored planes, etc. I have no idea how correct the tracer smoke was, Rise of Flight looks similar to me and they are going on about how accurate theirs is, who knows, any one here? Remember in Red Baron, you had a choice of loading the flamable type bullets for ballons?
