Interesting. You know, maybe I just didn't realize that after all of the tweaks I have not flown a scramble mission. Every time I hit the M key on those missions it dropped me too, but not since I used the utility. I guess once I get a scramble mission Ill see what happens.

Hey Flynnj, you are having the same problem that I, and others, have been having. I suggest you go to the general help form and look up a post titled "Drop to Desktop" All your answers will be in there, specifically the one about the utility to control the CPU usage/affinity.

So, I know we can input whatever we like into the claims section, but lets say that we want as much immersion as we can get, and we would like to add comments to our logged flights section of the log. Is there a way to make them stay? I just wrote about a half page on the mission I just flew, and when I went back to the dossier later, I noticed it was simply not there :P I was upset to say the least. Its not super important I guess, but for those who like this kind of craziness, it'd be fun to be able to also write in our log for extra detail.

HA! Well I guess so :P And yes Geier, I know how to view claims. I was just talking about the log itself, ot the claims. Some strange characters on these boards

:P Well yeah, now I could go out and get my own leatherbound logbook, but as much as I love realism, I'd say that would be a little bit overboard haha. And yes on the music, great stuff.

/facepalm Sorry Beerthirty, I read your post way too fast, I went down to 3 on both scenery and terrain, but everything else is 4. Hope that helps!

Actually, I agree with this more than my beloved Nieuport 28. I am a big fan of the early war stuff. Much more character in the plane design and in the historical accounts from the period. Plus it feels wrong to start the war somewhere in the middle :P

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "how long did I go," but if you mean in a single mission or on an extended run of the game, I could probably do 2-3 missions before it happened for me. Figured I'd take breaks between flights now.

One thing I loved about Red Baron II/3D was that it had this little beauty included in the flyable aircraft. I have been very tempted to make a U.S. pilot, but at the same time feel like it would not be complete without the Nieuport 28. On that note, are there any other flyable aircraft that are in the works for future addition? Please note I am not getting impatient as there are plenty of aircraft to enjoy, its just a thought :P.

So lately when flying I have been getting dumped to the OFF manager screen. At first I figured it was due to an overheating graphics card as was discussed in a previous topic, so I usually took breaks between missions to let it cool down. Once or twice it happened on a mission when I hit the "M" key for map. Just a couple minutes ago I was doing a scramble mission in which I downed two E.IIIs and was so stoked when the furball was over that I went to check my map in order to get back home, and to my surprise I was suddenly staring at the OFF manager screen as if nothing had happened and I went back in time. Not sure if this could also relate to an overheating card, due to the fact that I had just started the mission not but 5 minutes before I hit the map key, and I haven't played OFF all day? Maybe this is some other type of issue? I guess I could try to uninstall and reinstall, but in my experience, problems like this with games tend to not fix themselves. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Well, I'll file this one away as me just being greedy, but I was just flying a mission and saw something in the distance that I was curious about, and after about 5 taps of the "]" key, I got booted to the OFF manager again :P. At least this time it seemed provoked, before it would just happen when it damn well pleased. I'll keep at it, and also use the utility that Bigstank was talking about in another thread.

Ha! Well, at least I know I'm not the only newb out there :) I've had success so far with just lowering my graphics settings, but if I get the problem again I'll try your idea out stank. I seem to remember the devs said the game ran better with single core cpus, or something like that anyway, so your idea makes some sense :)

:( Well, guess that idea went down in flames. Any new planes are always welcomed of course. I just remember the good ol' days flying for the 27th and 24th Aero Squadrons in my trusty 28 :).

Something I noticed today too. I was flying with Esc 15 around the middle of 1916, and my flight of Nieuport 11s encountered 5 Fokker E.IIIs from Jasta 6. I like to play with labels on just in case I run into someone important. This time I did! I ran into Oswald Boelcke and Bruno Loerzer. At first I thought, "woohoo, I finally ran into someone of note." Then I realized, "wait a tick," Jasta 6, Boelcke, Loerzer? This can't be right? I thought maybe I was just missing something, so I did some research, and I never found either of them in any Jasta 6 rosters. Might this be a glitch on my end with some kind of corruption of pilot files or something? Or something else? :)

That is what gets me though uncleal. Now, I know a lot more work goes into making a new plane for a game this complicated, but then one would think that there would be types like the Nieuport 24 (and other obscure types) in the original Red Baron II. I guess the popular types are the ones that usually take the cake, but I love variety and detail. I did my fair share of waiting for P3 as well. I certainly know how the process works, but doesn't a longer wait make any new addition that much more exciting and worth it? :P Here is to hoping! :)

Well, I set the terrain back to 3 as well, and also maxed out my resolution to the most allowed by my card. I just flew an 82 minute mission that felt slightly smoother than usual in terms of graphical performance and the problem did not occur. However, I cannot settle that it is fixed yet, I've had full missions before the problem happened too. I'll keep flying and hopefully it will be smooth sailing from here on out.

Alright, so as much as I like to think I am pretty computer savvy, what do you mean by affinity and CPU0 only? :) Thanks for the help Bigstank. Also, how many missions have you done without having the problem after your "fix"?

Its just interesting that this is happening with such a smoothly running game. In my experience games that tend to overheat are the ones that struggle at the higher graphics settings. With OFF, I have the settings high, and it runs smooth as a baby's bottom, but then inexplicably, it just dumps back to the OFF manager. Ill try the sliders lower though, maybe even try upping the res a bit too, as per OvS's statement, Thanks!

Happened to me when I misspelled the witness's name, or if I left out a vital piece of info, like the craft type, or if it was killed or not. Usually it was the misspelling of a squadmate's name. Hope that helps!

You sir, are probably having the same problem I am having. I have an 8800 GTS and also have an Athlon X2 Dual Core 3.0 Ghz. For me it drops me randomly, but not to desktop, to the OFF manager screen. Might be something along the same lines. Might it be time for a new graphics card? Its hard to say yes, because the card is actually pretty darn new, but maybe we are on to something here? P.S. Ah! just noticed you said when you use the keys as well. I have had it happen on no fewer than 3 occasions while I hit the "M" key for map. At least I am not the only one with this problem :P
