  1. An OFF Navigation Exercise Flight

Looks interesting. Are towns, cities, rivers, roads, lakes and railways positioned in the actual game accurately so as to coincide with your map? Also, does this technique have any real chance of success in a combat flight? Won't all the careful flying by compass and time calculations go out the window after a tangle with the enemy? How do you resume a carefully planned flight after an enemy encounter takes you miles off course, the terrain below not telling you much about your current position?
  2. Stars

    Thanks Duck!
  3. Stars

It seems the file can't be found on SOH anymore. Any ideas on how to get it?
  4. MP online game tonight?

I'll be on earlier today for some testing so I'll stay on for this.
  5. looking for old hardware

Can't PM ya Stump. Is your PM box full?
  6. Announcing Winston's Saturday Multiplayer Sessions! Our motto: "No Pilot left behind." ALL skill levels welcomed. Beginners will get the help they need to get started. Intermediate pilots can increase their skills. Advanced pilots can mentor the others and we'll all have great fun as well. Are you frustrated with the quality and abilities of your AI wingmen? Nothing is better than flying with a human player at your side. We'll be starting early here in the USA to accommodate the european pilots. If you've always wanted to give multiplayer a try, here's your chance. It's really rather easy to get started. If I can do it, anyone can! Things you'll need: * Over Flanders Fields Phase 3 with the "Hat in the Ring" expansion and the latest patch. * A headset with microphone. * Teamspeak installed: http://teamspeak.com/?page=downloads Teamspeak setup instructions here: http://drop.io/nngaxed * Teamspeak overlay (optional but recommended): http://www.projecttint.com/teamspeakoverlay.php * MadMatt's essential multiplayer files: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=9131 * Stumpjumper's Strutters (get the download links on the teamspeak server in the Over Flanders Fields briefing room). * 1917 in-game Grid map: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=10489 If you've not connected in multiplayer lately, one test session with myself, Sitting Duck, or Vasco to see if you have Teamspeak working and all the OFF files needed to connect. Just PM one of us to set it up or drop by Teamspeak and see if someone is there. This needs to be done only once but before your first Saturday to ensure that you are properly sorted out beforehand. Sitting duck has a great multiplayer tutorial here, worth reading: http://forum.combatace.com/topic/38466-sitting-ducks-multiplayer-tutorial-please-read/ It's really rather easy to get started. If I can do it, anyone can! ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ * Sessions will be held each Saturday and start on 30 Jan at 10am USA Pacific Time. That's early evening in western europe. I'll be logged on for about 6-7 hours so if you can't make the start, don't worry. Come in when you want. Here's a time converter to your local time: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html * It's not required that you attend every Saturday. Fly when you can, we'll make every effort to be here for you. The more time you put into it, the more you'll improve your skills. * Only co-op missions will be flown, air to air and air to ground. No Player vs. Player dogfighting. * "No Pilot left behind." We will focus on getting you up and running with attention to developing the skills you'll need to be successful in multiplayer such as flying in formation, protecting your wingman, re-grouping after an encounter and teamwork. * Focusing on "Beginner" to "Intermediate" skill levels, but all skill levels welcomed. You Veteran and Elite pilots can be a great resource. Come and help the new guys develop their skills. * All aids will be enabled (TAC, labels and external views). You can turn off what you don't want. As we progress through the weeks, you may want to try turning off and on labels and external views from time to time. This will help you prepare for Vasco's Sunday sessions (if/when you want to graduate up to that) that are flown with no labels or external views. * At first we'll be flying campaign missions with RNAS-6 in Nieuport-17 BIS. You'll face enemy of varying skill levels and perhaps even an Ace flight from time to time. * Learn how the multiplayer interface works and host your own games.
  7. Rickitycrate, If you are unhappy with any of your batches, I offer a unique service. Just send me any brew you don't want and I'll see that it's disposed of properly!
  8. Sound Tweak II.

Other than the nearby engines of my flight members sounding like a bit too much reverb/echo effect in them, this seems to be a great improvement. I'll continue with it as it's possible that my Soundblaster 5.1 surround settings might need to be tweaked to match what you have given us here.
  9. Wings of Prey half price on Steam

Siggi, On a positive note you probably used a credit card to make your purchase, right? After dealing with the company as best you can for a refund, simply call your CC company and ask for a chargeback. They'll either ask you a few questions or send you a form to fill out but most importantly most all CC companies will immediately give you a full credit for your bad purchase. One should not support companies with unreasonable or intrusive DRM, or products that don't work as expected. Not disclosing the DRM is reason enough for a chargeback IMHO. I purchase very few software titles because of excessive DRM or if you have to be "online for single player" requirements and certainly never buy anything at first release; there's so much that can be wrong with a title so I'd rather wait to hear feedback from users. I passed on RoF and may have to pass on the upcoming Supreme Commander 2 that I've been waiting for for so long because of the "online required for single player" issue that may be in effect. The PC Gamer/Consumer must make a stand now before this type of DRM gets completely out-of-control. We need to show the game companies that we are willing to not purchase their products if they offend us so. Spend your gaming dollars on companies worthy of support. Do your research on a new title and ask questions about the DRM. If the ugly monster rears it's head, don't throw your money at it.
  10. Wings of Prey half price on Steam

This will be available soon on disk: http://www.gogamer.com/viewproduct.htm?productId=95643999 Isn't this the same developer as RoF? Is the DRM as intrusive?
  11. Some thoughts...

What you have with human vs. human dogfights is the nastiest bug of all in OFF multiplayer; the "unusual attitude" of your opponent when he's turning hard. He flys backwards and sideways and shoots you when pointed away from you. When you look behind you and see an enemy at 800 ft, he most likely is much, much closer than that as you soon find out. I find myself marveling at these bugs so much that I forget what I'm doing. Kills could be more attributed to a players lag time rather than skill, but also even the host experiences the bug. We've all hated this from the beginning, is there a fix that I'm unaware of? Or a new way to minimize the problem?
  12. I'll be on teamspeak Tue, Wed and Thurs staring around 10am pacific time to test some new missions for the Saturday session. I'll stay on as long as possible. If anyone wants to drop by I'd appreciate the help and I'm sure you'll like the entertainment.
  13. Anytime you select rockets or build a mission with rockets for the new N-17 bis, a MP game will crash all the players who try to enter. The host can continue to fly. More testing on rockets in other planes after HitR is planned. I hope the others haven't been porked as well!
  14. Rockets for HitR N-17 bis

Yes, Stump's new N-17Bis works with rockets now. It's available to multiplayers on teamspeak. Let's all give a big hand to Stumpjumper!
  15. If ya go for the heavy unfiltered ales, you owe it to yourself to try Pyramid Apricot Ale. I recommend it after a hard day patrolling the skies.
  16. Gun Platform

My vote is the Nieuport 17 Bis. Cowl mounted vickers and upper wing mounted Lewis gun with 741 rounds total. It hits hard!
  17. Building a new PC

Welcome to OFF! You are going to get as varied a responce to that question as if you'd asked "what kind of new car should I buy?" Don't get overwhelmed and take the advice on system components given here with a grain of salt. If this is for OFF only a single nvidia GTX 285 or upwards 1GB or more memory video card and a nice 22-24" fast refresh monitor. Then build the rest appropriately with whatever cash you have left.
  18. Some pic's from tonights missions

I just love those train attack missions, and the flak cars on them are soooo deadly!
  19. Winston's Saturday MP sessions

We've now completed 9 missions flying for RNAS-6 in the N-17 Bis. Todays Saturday sessions was attended by: Loopy Red Dog Grumpybear von Baur Burning Beard Dudley Axgrinder Sitting Duck Foxendown and myself Next week we'll be flying the missions again except from the German standpoint in the Albatros DV. Here's a snap of us returning on a rainy day, Axgrinder in a N-17 Bis, Myself and Loopy in Sopwith Triplanes, von Baur and Burning Beard in Sopwith 1-1/2 Strutters.
  20. OT: off to France

We are flying a Nieuport in the Saturday multiplayer sessions and of course we are in France in OFF, so it all reminded me of this scene in "Piece of Cake" as they ready themselves for the squadron move to France. It's a different era but comedy is timeless, right? or http://tinypic.com/r/vpds45/6
  21. Nominate ONE aircraft for P4

Well since we already have the Gotha and Zeppelin in multiplayer, I'll cast my vote for the Snipe. That should be interesting.
  22. OT: off to France

Actually it was produced by the BBC in 1988 and shown here in the states on the BBC channel "Masterpiece Theatre" in 1992. Here's where I got my DVD: http://www.bbcameric...cake-12956.html I'm sure they have a similar store in the UK, try googling Piece of Cake BBC. It's a must have movie for any aviation enthusiast's collection. I re-watch it several times a year. You can search Youtube, there are some other clips available there.
  23. Winston's Saturday MP sessions

I just noticed that in the 1st post I linked to the Teamspeak 3 download page when in fact we're using Teamspeak 2 available here: http://teamspeak.com/?page=downloads&archive=1
  24. OT: off to France

"Piece of Cake". A BBS production around 1992 or thereabout. Wonderful movie when it was on TV but I missed the final chapter then. I bought a 3 DVD set of it online somewhere but can't remember where. Maybe it can be rented? It's a must see. Real Spits, and spanish ME's and REAL flying!
  25. N_17 BIS FOR MP SESSION ONLY

Changed to a .zip file with a folder only, no self-installer. The craft works great so everyone get this for the Saturday sessions.
