OFF2 Screenshots - Roland model updated & Summer Scenery
Olham replied to Polovski's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Pol, the hard-hats are really well identifyable, and they fit great with two-seater crews. I hope though, that the fighter pilots will not have to wear them? It's just that I'm afraid it would ruin my flashy "Blitz Fighter" image with the girls, you know? -
Perhaps it was their "veteran status" that saved them from getting moved so early. You just need many more hours, pilot - so where's yer crate?

Another thing learned - thank you, elephant! -
1. In "Workshops" go to "Graphics Config", "File" > "Custom settings..." > "Window" > "Overrides". Disable "Advisor messages" und "Chat". 2. No, there is a dead angle for each two-seater rear gunner. But when the MG stand was on a ring mount, the ring could be turned, and the stand could get moved to the left and right side, which gave the gunner a good field of fire, and reduced the dead angle a lot. 3. Yes, gunners and pilots can be killed. It will not be mentioned in the messages though. 4. There must be a command key for bringing down the gun from your upper wing, to simulate the reload. But you must not do that; the ammo will be reloaded automatically. If you want to bring the gun down, you must check the command keys. Press "Esc" ingame, and go to "Controls".

Started flying "Full DiD" again, with additional measures
Olham replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Baldric, you got me wrong - I didn't mean this thread to be for posting combat reports. There is a "Sticky Thread" for that: "Reports from the Front". Later on, when P4 is out, we shall reanimate the "Full DiD Campaign", which will also be in the Stickies. -
Once you have learnt how to shoot at an opponent, you won't need the Aldis sight. I would find it rather limiting my overall sight, to look through that tube.

Saving my Wingman If you see your wingman getting chased around by an opponent, it will always be a wonderful feeling, if you can save him. This is what I could experience today. The Nieuport 24 stuck at his tail like glued on, when I came down behing the silver plane and shot it up. It was risky, because I might have hit my wingman, but it went alright - the hunter became the prey, and found his end south of the airfield at St. Quentin-le-Petit. -

Thanks for the chart, elephant! Where are the numbers 650/17 - 749/17; 800/17 - 1649/17; 2600/17 - 3055/17 and 3256/17 - 5021/17 ??? Were they used for other types? -
Pushing OFF to the Limits with Older Systems:
Olham replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Lou, now my graphic card (ATI HD5970) has also arrived (thank you a thousand tons, my friend Morris!). I can see trees almost to the horizon now. I realised, that "Terrain" on "5" doesn't work for me though - the forrest Terrain decals look strangely dark in the distance then. Seems, less is more here; so I put "Terrain Detail" back on "3", where I used to have it. Lou, I think that in our cases two very good cards have come to two men, who will REALLY enjoy them to the most! -

I wanted the colour band aft of the crosses, that's why I picked an OAW-built Albatros for that design. I don't always go nitpicking for historical correctness. Did OAW also build the early D.III, or only the later version? -
Wow, those R.E.8 knew how to defend themselves

Yes, Schnaps - they seem to have that with them everywhere. -

Yes, it truely does - like the Pfalz D.III also. Well, aerodynamics and aquadynamics are not much different, I guess. Bullet, that is understandable - the realism of OFF (...which is NOT a game, by the way). -

Olham replied to Bullethead's topic in Military and General Aviation
What a terrible mistake! If he was pulling the stick fully back all the time, he must have been thinking that he was in a steep descend, nose first? I wonder what the artificial horizon was showing? He should have seen it there? -

Lou, I had actually thought for a moment or two, that the devs had found a way to update my OFF, while I was sleeping! -

A pity, but the "Vintage Aviator" build photos do not show that, Carrick. But they had to "hit" the fuselage frame spars with their nails, so the lining had to be quite accurate. I would perhaps draw a fine pencil line, and set the nails along that. Of course, if done by hand, you could expect they had the best handcraftsmen to do the job - back in those days, this aircraft was what nowadays the F-18 is. -
Searching YouTube for videos about fighter pilots from WW1 and WW2, I came across a video which seemed to have been uploaded by English or American users. It was about the second-highest scoring German ace, Gerhard Barkhorn. Now, what made me feel queasy was the use of the song "Horst Wessel Lied". Not only just an instrumental, but the whole text version. Now, the English or American users may not know that this song is forbidden here in Germany, nor may they understand the text of it. Well, it is a song that glorifies the SA, the "Sturm-Abteilung" - the "storm troopers". The "brown shirts" - those early uniformed hordes, that used beat up people who demonstrated for their different opinions. They were the hordes, that burned books on bonfires. They were the mainstay to help Hitler into the saddle. They were the hordes that destroyed so many Jewish shops and synagoges in the "Reichs- kristallnacht". They were not even part of Germany's military - they were a paramilitary group, and they saw themselves as the "stewards of Germany". More than any other symbol, their brown uniforms with the red arm band with the Swastika stand for the people I would have hated back then. Violent, totalitarian, fashist people. I hope very much, that YouTube will react now I made them aware of such audio contents. I cannot see many videos in Germany, because the copyrights of the originators would be getting infringed. That's alright. But I do not want to hear any such fashist droning either. .

Are you good as a gunner, Bullet? Maybe we could fly it as a team. I can pilot the craft quite well and will land us safely. -

Wow - so they could wind a long aerial out and back in again? I read about the funny accident with an aerial, which they couldn't wind back in again; in Lewis' "Sagittarius rising". I think the craft was an early Morane two-seater - maybe the one we will get in P4? -

Guys, I have a good title for Winder: Winder, the Wizard of OFF. Not that you other guys are not wizards, but these landscapes (which did look good already) are now looking so believeable, while keeping that typical OFF-artistic touch - I'm stunned! That Roland may even lure me into a two-seater. That cockpit is great! Is that an electro-engine to start the engine via that chain, down at the right? -
File Name: Albatros D.II "Bavaria" File Submitter: Olham File Submitted: 15 February 2012 File Category: Aircraft Skins This is my first Albatros D.II skin, I think. Since Baldric and Hauksbee asked for an older Bavarian design, which I had erased unfortunately, I quickly built another again. I made a Bavarian flag pattern for the tail section. I didn't go so far to make the pattern on sides and top match correctly - that is a nervewrecking try-and-error work I didn't have the time for. I think it works okay as it is. The skin is based on much of the original OFF-Skinner's work - thank you, OBD-Skinners! Click here to download this file

Song in a YouTube Video causes nausea to me
Olham replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
You haven't got anything of what I was trying to say, TSmoke. I am not "so special", that I would imply my personal "dictatorship" on a public video channel. It is not because I "dislike" the Horst-Wessel-Lied. I do even like the music of it. But knowing that it was THE marching song of the SA, and knowing what the SA was and did - that is what makes me sick. And that is why I say: ban that BS from public channels - before it might infect other simple minds. Well, then I don't get it, why you get so aggressive against my matter. I know all that very well. My dad also did his service. He was also not a Nazi-sympathisant, but he also kept his mouth shut and did his job (radio operater on a ship). Your mother's uncle was not a Nazi and made himself enemies in the own ranksby being honest. Now I do not know, what Major Gerhard Barkhorn was like, but I don't think that he, or his children, were even asked, if the Horst-Wessel-Song could be used as background music for a short video "portrait" of Barkhorn. And finally, the uploader calls him self "heildemfuehrer" - in clear text "Heil dem Fuehrer"; and now you know where he stands. I do not want such BS being spread again, and I vote for banning in such specific cases. Do you advocat the old and most simple method of ignoring such BS, if you don't like it, and just look somewhere else? Well, in that case I recommend: look somewhere else, and stop reading this post. . -

So you met a Bavarian of that name, Baldric? He was clever - Meyer is much easier to get used to. Although - I would have rather chosen the name Müller. There was a certain very fat Reichsluftmarschall, who had to change his name to "Meyer" after the first Allied bombers reached Berlin. The skin is approved and ready for download, by the way.
