OT I hope this sees the light of day
Olham replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes, indeed, that is a great scene, and I have the film on DVD. That's exactly what I meant - the people who do such CGI scenes for movies, should watch the real thing. And they may even surprise us with such a "clinical operation". But in "Flyboys" or "Der Rote Baron", we realise that they hadn't even taken the time to watch WW1 aircraft replicas flying - or a damn producer messed it all up by demanding faster action. -

Ditto to TaillyHo's. So you have been training an essential part of an Albatros pilot's business. I don't know how many Mercedes engines I have cost the Kaiser already, and how many more will follow. Someone recently said, it maybe because a relatively big part of the engine is visible from outside, it may have more hit points. That's an explanation I can agree to - doesn't make me look so guilty. The Sopwith Strutter and even more the Bristol Fighter are very dangerous, Duke. If you attack them, try it from below their tail. (Won't work much with the Brisfit - that "flying warthog" will be all over you.) Oh, and if you need a German pilot family name - your "Duke" is in German "Herzog", which really is also used as a family name. Wouldn't sound Hans, Horst or Hermann Herzog sound good? -

That footage of MikeDixon shows, how much the CGI guys still have to learn to get right. And if they don't watch such material, they'll never get there. The lighting, the shimmering, the blurredness in fast movements - all this still doesn't look right. Here is the Battle of Britain stuff from "Pearl Harbour" - again, the CGI craft don't move realistic enough: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxT2l_u8p-E&feature=related -
Ras, if you need the surgery, I wish you big success with it, so you can sit and fly again! It's gone quiet here - many old members are not here anymore, or appear very rarely. Maybe in the last couple of years from P1 on, they have "shot their powder" here, as we say in Germany. I hope I'll see you again soon, and take care.

Can't see the second one here, but the first video is great, UncleAl!!! -
Good points, I'd say! Let's hope your professor is a WW1 aviation freak!

La Vie Francaise - The French Way of Life in old Photos
Olham posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Just found these French postcards from 1900 onwards. You just click on the links, like for Amiens: "706 cartes postales", and you will get pages of pictures showing life in France at the time of short before, during, and after the Great War. Many of them show the French way of life back in that time so peacefully, that it is hard to imagine, that the first world war was about to begin. The chosen picture is showing the St. Leu church and the Somme at Amiens. Enjoy! http://www.notrefami...le-village.html -

Guess I know what you mean. Yeah, our devious ways of expressing ourselves... A "Pariser" is not necessarily a citizen of Paris... -

Since "Pearl Harbour" I was wondering, when anyone would make a new "Battle of Britain" movie. CGI tech makes it possible. The aircraft still didn't look perfect here, and their movements are still a bit too jet-like, but maybe it will be refined? I'd like to see a new "BoB" version with great flying and air combat stuff! -
Yep, when you attack the Kates from below their six, they're helpless. The Betty always smoked me. I might have got one or two, but then they finished me off. But hey - no wonder with those weapons! 20mm rearward guns? Jeeze!

New D.III early skin - my pilot with Jasta 28w had his first sortie; they escorted 3 D.F.W. C.V on a recon flight. All went fine and undisturbed, until they turned to fly home. Suddenly a pack of Sopwith Pups came out of the clouds and engaged. He had chased one downwards a bit, and so he had to climb 300 Meter back up, when he had to witness the death of a wingman helplessly. When the Pup came lower to attack him too, he took it on and literally shot it to pieces in his rage. -
No, LIMA, the Jap torpedo bombers I attacked were Nakajima "Kate", I believe to remember. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nakajima_B5N But I remember that "Betty-mission" you meant. It was quite dangerous, cause their defensive fire was quite good.

Even Germany isn't as well off as they are trying to make believe. When they say, that the German economy is florishing, that is only for the really big ones. The common men's small businesses can hardly pay taxes at all anymore, and many, if not most of them, struggle to make ends meet. -
Training Field - P4 DEVELOPMENT SCREENSHOTS!
Olham replied to Winder's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hey, that is looking comfortable there - barracks with an oven in there surely, and a dry clean bed! Airfields with the whole infrastructure - superb, Winder! Just the learning process of the flying will already be fun from such training fields. And I wonder if you will add certain buildings here and there to identify specific aerodromes? Like the sugar factory and the Roucourt Castle ; or Bailleul Asylum (Hint, hint!) ? -
That is exactly how I was operating first as a rookie: ham-fisted (a great word!) You will slowly get there, like the real life pilots had to learn to control their own aircraft first; then to fly in formations, and then to recognise any enemies (Arthur Gould Lee describes that so great, how his flight leader is diving and fireing on an enemy, and Lee doesn't see any. Even when they pull up again, he cannot see the two-seater!). And then, after even many more hours, you will develop your aiming and firing at, and hitting of enemy aircraft. The sim has, as UncleAl says, a steep learning curve. But it will be rewarding so much!

Clear words from an Irishman there! Thanks for posting, Widowmaker. This financial system has definitely come to a bad end. I wonder, if it would be possible to install anything else, that would work better. But I'm afraid, not. Not love is many men's strongest emotion - it is rather greed. The bankers are already re-introducing slavery this way. -

Well, I have an i5 CPU, and also an 4870 (1GB). Other than BirdDog, I only set everything up in Catalyst Control Center (which is only for ATI cards, UncleAl). I have maxed out everything there, and my fraps are wonderful. Perhaps you check my complete graphics settings guide (which works fine for me): http://combatace.com/topic/60374-an-easy-pictorial-guide-graphics-setup/page__view__findpost__p__452080

Okay, thank you, guys! But right now, I am flying OFF more than ever. I'll keep it in mind though.
-
It would seem nicer, if you would be seen here more often with other posts, Bandy. To post after a long time only to announce the competing sim is a bit strange, isn't it?
-
Yes, it was me - thanks for the info! Still remember one mission, where I had to stop Japanese torpedo bombers approaching our US carrier. I was flying "wave-tip-level" and shot one after the other down from even slightly underneath. (And they WERE flying low alrady!) Did you have to use tricks, or did it simply work? What is T&L ?
