  1. Back with my old squadron!

Hi Jim,Now that’s really cool to be able to live your squadron’s history. Good hunting, Jammer
  2. WWI items listed

Yes, definitely worth a bump. I found it interesting to look at the odd assortment of items they carried and wore back then.
  3. Hello Hiccup, I’ve been trying to see your video for a couple of days now. At work they block streaming media. For some odd reason at home the CombatACE Forums would not connect. Kept saying page not found or something. Its working now though thank goodness. Anyway back to your video. I enjoyed it very much. I liked the beginning and ending pictures and how you used them to transition in and out of the video, plus the old west theme. I remember playing “Outlaws” way back when. Nice song too. Olham, I think the music gets chopped because of DRM. Not sure but that’s my guess. Did a Google search and there many links on stripping the DRM out of music. I have not tried any since I’ve been lucky enough so far not to need to do it. Catch has had problems with this sort of thing as well. It’s not like we are making any money off of our videos. If anything we help promote the music! Cheers, Jammer
  4. Poster now available

Thanks to you and Hauksbee I now have one on order.
  5. I have no words to describe what we owe to the men and women in uniform around the world that have fought for freedom. I cannot say any better what others have spoken before me. All I can offer is a simple but heartfelt Thank You. My contribution for Memorial Day. This is my black & white version. I will upload the same video (on youtube) in color in the near future. You can see a bit more detail in color but black & white gives the effect I wanted.
  6. Killing of a "Brisfit"

They are quite agile for such a big bird. Have you tried shooting at them from underneath? I haven’t tried it with them, may not be possible if they maneuver too much. If they fly level then get some speed up then get directly under and point your nose at their belly. Works for me on other 2 seaters. Sometimes.
  7. OT: WWI Night on TCM

Oh, thanks for the heads up. Didn't know about it. Got to record Dawn Patrol since I'll be at work.
  8. Backing up

I’m not sure if this is all you need but I would at least try your pilot’s folder. I would assume yours is located the same as mine: C:\OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\campaigns\CampaignData\Pilots If there is more to it than that maybe someone could enlighten both of us.
  9. Hello to everyone, Again thank you very much for your kind words. I love making the videos but sharing them with people who appreciate Over Flanders Fields as much as I do, and enjoying them, is immensely gratifying. If I could indulge myself I would like to share a story with you on how I came to make videos like this. I love classical music and I would play spider solitaire while listening to it. A few years back I finished a game and while the music was still playing I watched a video of CFS2 that I had captured. I was surprised how the music, Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Dance of the Tumblers”, matched the action. I thought to myself that I could put the two together and make a video. I made that one and a few MSFS9 videos. I didn’t think about youtube or doing anything with my videos except for sharing them with friends and family. At the time I naively thought that I had invented flight sim videos! I realized how silly I was for thinking that when I did a search and found some other videos on the internet. I still laugh at myself for being so naïve. I’m 48 now and still naïve in some ways. The videos out there range from bad to very good. I wanted to make something different, something captivating. I never pursued anything more in CFS2 and making a general aviation video exiting is difficult. Not impossible, but limited in what you can do. For the last three years I have done nothing in making videos. Then along came Over Flanders Field. Man was I hooked. I was captivated by the experience it gave in WWI aerial combat. Flying, fighting and dying had never been so exciting. I would get so excited at gaining a victory or completing a mission and so mad at myself for letting my pilot get killed. The highs and lows are incredible. I wanted very much to capture the experience of Over Flanders Field in videos and make them as cinematic as possible. The videos are ok so far but it’s not what I had in mind when I started to make them. I want to go one step further but I’m not sure how to do it yet. I’m happy to hear some of your reactions and that they are referred to as movies. That makes me feel good. Thank you. Tonyo – legion asked about a tutorial. Oh goodness, a tutorial? UK_Widowmaker asked the same thing and in a PM I tried to answer him. I couldn’t really come up with a tutorial. For me it’s kind of a process. For example, I have wanted to make a video using Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Festival at Baghdad” for some time but didn’t have the right theme to match it. Plus the song is over 11 minutes. Youtube has a 10 minute limit. Since the ending is rather slow and a couple minutes long I thought about cutting it. Last week I was listening to it and then it hit me. The ending is the best part you fool! Then I made a connection to the war as a whole. Everything fell into place after that. If you have a theme then find the right music for it. If you have some music that you think would be good in a video then match it to the proper theme. The music is most important for it sets the tone. After that it’s all technical. All I can say is the same thing I told Widowmaker. If you have a question about how I did something, just ask. I will be more than happy to answer. Thanks again to everyone and especially the devs. Without Over Flanders Field I would still be playing spider solitaire and listening to classical music. Cheers, Jammer
  10. Never happened to me, but I could venture a guess. Unbeknownst to you there was an offensive that started in your sector and the 10 SE5a’s were supporting it. The offensive went so well and so fast that while you were airborne the front rolled right past your aerodrome. That would explain why Guy Borthwick Moore got into another aeroplane so quickly, they had already moved into your aerodrome. It would also explain why you became a POW and your claims were erroneous. The Canadians are an understanding lot but I don’t blame them for not accepting your report. Either that or your mission was totally bonkers.
  11. OT Anyone play a Musical Instrument?

Wales! I visited Conwy and Caernarvon castles in the mid 80’s. Took a tour bus through Snowdonia National Park. The clouds were low covering the tops of the mountains and it was misting heavily. There were many small streams flowing down. It was very mystical and magical, like something out of a fantasy movie with Merlin and dragons. I was completely enthralled. Beautiful, beautiful country.
  12. I was searching through some of my old files I have and found this photo of Jasta 11. I don’t remember where I got the picture from; it’s been many years now. Something caught my eye and I had a closer look. I enlarged a section of the photo and sure enough I saw an image of a person. It looked as though someone tried to airbrush the person out but didn’t finish. I ran the image through a “photo scrubber-enhancer-modulator” and out popped a clear image. As you can see it looks like the dreaded ace Otto von Stachel, but I could be wrong. Maybe someone could do some research and find out if it’s him. I can’t imagine why he would be airbrushed out. Maybe he was too much competition for MvR and they tried to erase any record of him with Jasta 11. A mystery that may never be solved.
  13. Hey zoomzoom and everyone, If you can highlight the text on a web page you can copy it into Google Language Tools. Use the drop downs to select the languages and click translate. I just noticed that you can also put in the web page URL! Jammer
  14. I hope all of you aren’t tired of my videos. When I think of a theme I feel compelled to make one. I tried to capture the essence of Bloody April.
  15. Zurawski.

FYI Smith in Polish is Kowalski
  16. Quite a Lady!

I read Jackie Cochran’s autobiography quite a few years ago. I became interested in her after reading Chuck Yeager’s book. From what I remember she was a very strong willed person. Another interesting woman aviator is Pancho Barnes. Pancho and Jackie hated each other but they both were good friends with Chuck. Neither one could understand how he liked the other. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pancho_Barnes
  17. Winder. Pol and the other devs can have the videos and use them however they think is best. I don’t feel that they are mine anyway. All I have done is repackage a great sim. If they can be used to spread the word of OFF that’s all the better. Thanks Geezer. I love classical music. The more dramatic the better. While listening to Mozart’s requiem I made a connection to the “Bloody April” theme I had wanted to do. The rest just took care of itself. I did research for the video on the internet. Now I want to know more and will order Peter Hart’s book. Dead on Madmatt. That is exactly the reason I make my videos. I want to portray what OFF is all about. To me it’s more of an experience than just a combat sim. As far as the damage model I use Hardcore. I don’t change any other settings. I don’t think I get enough flamers. You need to check out Catch22’s videos. He has some really nice flamers. Sky Riders is my favorite It’s like a thrill ride at an amusement park. All of his videos are a blast. Also check out RAF_Louvert’s ZEPPELINS OVER PARIS ! I don’t know how to link to it but if look for his post on May 9 you can download it. Thanks but don’t be too impressed with my flying and gunnery. All my mistakes are edited out. Quite right Macklroy. I only use a fraction of the shots I take. I will stage a fight and get into position, turn on fraps, wait and wait and nothin’. Other times I capture a nice shot by accident. You just never know what will happen sometimes.
  18. I ordered TrackIR Pro4 and received it a couple of days ago. Up until then I had been using FreeTrack. I knew about TrackIR but wasn’t sure if I wanted or needed to plunk down $130 (at the time) for something I could make for around $30. FreeTrack worked great in FSX but I don’t fly it anymore since getting hooked on OFF. With FreeTrack in OFF I only got 2DOF, pitch and yaw. Better than a hat switch but still lacking. Prior to this I used padlock to follow an EA. Padlock is smooth and you never loose track but you can easily loose focus and stall or worse, auger in. The other factor is immersion. This has been mentioned from time to time in posts. Boy is it true. Having TrackIR or FreeTrack really gets you into the fight. The fact that you CAN loose the EA makes the dogfights very intense. The difference between TrackIR and FreeTrack is that with FreeTrack you always stay centered. When you line up for a shot it’s always straight ahead. With the extra 3DOF (total of 5DOF) you get from TrackIR, depending on how your looking, your shots can be off. This sounds like it can be frustrating but it actually adds more immersion. In building a FreeTrack you can choose between a USB hookup or battery. I chose the battery. If you don’t make the USB correctly you can fry your motherboard. I was trained in electronics and know how to read schematics, but I was not about to gamble my PC on someone else’s home diagram. The battery route was safe. When I tried FreeTrack the first time it was extremely unstable. I found that you had to tweak the setting a lot to make it stable. A while back my FreeTrack was acting erratic and unstable again. I thought here we go again, tweak, tweak, tweak. Very frustrating because nothing worked, until I remembered the battery. Yep, weak battery. Sigh. Since TrackIR 5 has come out the price of 4Pro has dropped to $100. I bought one and I don’t regret it. It worked better than FreeTrack right out the box. Its WAY smoother and I haven’t even tweaked it to my liking yet. Awesome. Also, no battery required. At the risk of sounding like a commercial, if you can afford TrackIR, buy it! I just hope I don’t forget I have the cap on and go outside like Uncle Al. (I still get a chuckle thinking about that)
  19. TrackIR vs FreeTrack

Hello malibu, I did indeed get 6DOF in FSX. But in OFF I was only getting 2DOF, pitch and yaw. OFF supports 5DOF. Are you able to get all 5? Maybe I didn’t have mine setup properly? I don’t know, but in FSX I didn’t need to do anything special. If you can get all 5DOF in OFF please let me know how. I will probably give my FreeTrack to a friend and if it can get all 5 then I would like to know how to do it. It wasn’t my intension to pan FreeTrack. It’s not bad; it’s just that I found TrackIR to be superior. Jammer
  20. At your leisure Winder. Make (and take) some well deserved time for your family and yourself. Jammer
  21. the ballad of Bill Hubbard

When I read your post I did a search of Bill Hubbard and found this sitehttp://www.rogerwaters.org/bh.html I wanted to know more about the story. Touching. Thanks gwar, Jammer
  22. Der Albatros Wolf schlägt wieder an! Or is this correct? Die Albatros Wolf schlägt wieder zu! Or both? In English The albatros wolf strikes again!
  23. good news and bad news

I’ve never had surgery of any kind so I cannot relate to what you are up against. But I’m glad to hear from fellow OFF’ers that it’s not serious. I wasn’t much for sports growing up; I was the runt in the family. I did find camaraderie in the military so I can relate to letting your teammates down. I’m sure they feel bad for you as well. I take it that you don’t know when you will have the surgery. Keep us posted.
  24. G'day to All (NOOB ALERT)

Another welcome to ya Tripe! Same thing here. Same again.
