Log doesn't match missions flown
Jammer28 replied to Hoghead's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I had the same problem. I had an extra mission logged and the time flown was not accurate. I remembered that I had flown an orientation flight before starting the campaign in QC. Even though under Statistics I have Campaign Only ticked for Flight Evaluation/Log it still counted my flight under QC. After doing some math I determined that I had flown for about 5 minutes in QC so I added a line in my log to reflect this. (It’s the first flight listed in my log.) Now everything balances out. Looking at your log you have 105 minutes shown on the right side which is 1.75 hours. On the left side it shows 1.85 hours flown. A difference of .1 hours or 6 minutes. You have 3 missions not accounted for. I would guess that they are QC and add up to the missing 6 minutes. If you decide to edit your log be careful. Back up your log first. If you don’t do it correctly you will get a log error in the game. I know because it happened to me. If your not sure how to do this its best to leave it alone. I hope this helps. -
OT: My Ace Autograph and memorabilia collection pictures

I enjoy seeing historical items. Something very much to be proud of. I have a number of baseball cards but it seems trivial to your collection -
I have always been fascinated with this man ever since I read about him in high school. I wish Hollywood would make a movie about him. They wouldn’t need to make up or embellish anything about him. The youtube video and wikipedia entry just scratch the surface of his many exploits. One that I remember reading (to the best of my memory) was that he buzzed a local village and was chewed out by his C.O., “Why are you scaring your own countrymen when you should be buzzing the hun?” Nungesser got in his plane, flew across the front lines and buzzed a German aerodrome. Upon returning he stood in front of his C.O., saluted and said, “It is done mon capitaine!” Just wondering. Does anybody fly in the French Escadrilles? I was watching an air battle from a distance between AI planes and caught these screenshots.

I had always thought that the idea for the F-82 Twin Mustang came from the P-51. This just shows how far ahead Anthony Fokker designs were!

Carburator problems on the D.VII?
Jammer28 replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Don’t know about the D.VII. I’m sure one of the more knowledgeable folks here could answer that. I do know that the WWII Spitfire carburetor was gravity fed and would almost cut out when flying inverted. -
I am currently flying in 68 squadron stationed at Auchel aerodrome. The time is January 1918. It seems that whenever I fly my flight is, usually though not always, out numbered by the Germans. Not by a small amount either. I’m talking 3 to 7, 4 to 9 and my last flight was 5 to 12. My flight is never numerically superior. Most of my flights seem to be against Jasta 6 flying the DR I. Until my last flight I have successfully avoided engagement. I think I read somewhere that von Richthofen would hang back and watch a battle unfold. When he saw an open target he went in. I don’t know if that’s true but I have been using that tactic with some success. However, in my last flight with the odds 5 to 12, I was circling above and felt like an absolute coward while my flight was being chewed to pieces. I dove in, shot down one and was working on a second when of course I was shot down. What are ya gonna do? Die a hero or flee like a coward? (Rhetorical questions). Anyway, my question is: Are the odds at this period in time with this squadron and Jasta correct? Not complaining. I think it’s good to have these kinds of situations come up. Makes the sim way more interesting.

Hard times to come for Camel pilots

Have you tried the Fokker D.VII? When I first flew it I felt invincible. Haven’t tried the dreidecker yet. -

Has anyone shot down a “friendly”? Are there any repercussions? -
less than 100% fuel loadout?
Jammer28 replied to Winston DoRight's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Until a few days ago I never noticed that the fuel level could be adjusted. In one of the posts someone mentioned it so I started lowering my fuel to suit the mission. The plane did indeed feel lighter. There are sooooo many aspects to this sim its incredible. I started loading bombs when flying ground missions. Saves my ammo for the trip home. Back when I was flying at 100% fuel I got peppered hard by ground fire. My engine cut out while returning. I thought perhaps my fuel tank had been hit and was out of petrol. Checked my fuel level (F5) and my tank was empty. I am thoroughly impressed at what the Devs have done with this sim. -
BEWARE!!! I was flying a patrol over friendly territory being very cautious. Everything was going ok when all of a sudden I was jumped and flamed by this mad flying German. I mean he just came out of nowhere! I managed to take a screenshot before I died. Don’t know who he was but he must be an ace. He doesn’t even need to wear goggles! Now I’m afraid to fly again.

Very nice! I like it. What did you use for the background?

Just tested Alt+Tab. I was able to minimize the game but it locked up. Not windows, just the game. I have tried different ways of minimizing OFF ( Ctrl+Alt+Del, Cntrl+Shift+Escape and the windows key) with the same results. I had OFF paused once and my grandson hit the windows key. By the time I got back to it, about 10 minutes, the computer was locked up too.

I have way more screen shots than videos (the videos I do have are not very cinematic) so I made a slide show. First time ever putting something on Youtube. Criticism is welcome. Watched all of yours Olham. First rate job. I particularly liked you choice of music. I prefer the classical type stuff to the rock. The music is what sets the tone of course.

Different aspects of approaching the sim in campaign
Jammer28 posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Just wondering on the different aspects of approaching the sim in campaign. What criteria do you use for choosing your rank, squadron (jasta), start date, etc. What’s more important to you, completing the mission or looking for EA’s? For me the mission always comes first. If I’m flight leader and on an airfield, railyard or balloon attack, I will try my best to make it to the target and complete the mission. Even if I come across a smaller flight of EA’s I will avoid them if possible. When flying escort I will fight only when EA’s engage my flight. Of course when flying patrols, anything goes! -

That is fantastic! My wife would quite upset if I tried something like that. She just will not accept that grown men still have a lot of little boy in them. -

I had been lurking around the forum at SOH just before the end and followed you guys over here. I must say Siggi, you are quite a character. I mean that in a nice way, as a compliment. -
I watched some of the additional videos shown at the bottom at the end. I love the documentaries of the air war. I enjoyed the farce entitled, “Silent Film - WWI Death over France”. The somber “Battle of the Somme - Real Footage” is moving. I had forgotten all about the song used in it. The beautiful “Pie Jesu” by Sarah Brightman. It is from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Requiem. I had purchased the 45 when I was stationed in England in the mid eighties. Memories. Thank you Womenfly2

Do you have a special person you use as your pilot's name?
Jammer28 replied to CW3SF's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
For the British I use either John Alconbury (I was stationed at RAF Alconbury when I was in the USAF) or Roger Yaxley (I lived in the village of Yaxley just out side of Peterborough). In the future I will probably use Peter Boroughs. Oddly enough when I lived in Yaxley one of my neighbors was Peter Boroughs. For the Germans I use Hans Jeager. This is a mix of jäger and Chuck Yeager. As stated in the Wikipedia entry for Chuck Yeager: The name "Yeager" is an Anglicized form of the German and Dutch name, Jäger (German: "hunter")
