Thank you much Kevin for that "War of the cities" moment, it looks very promising, there must be a ton of work behind the scene to get everything to work. Good "luck" for the rest! (The French expression is "Bon courage", litterally "Good bravery" and it involve more self investment than pure luck) xclusiv8, thank you very much Sir for the time you spent typing all this, I'm gonna print it and open 'toshop to be able to read it with all the attention it deserve and give it a try. It will takes time, a lot, to reach an acceptable level, and I'm not even talking about the marvelous pics artists like you and Farmer are regaling our eyes with. To both, thanks for your hearth warming posts gents, a great example of how wonderful this community is. -

Oh sorry, I didn't proof read my message before pressing "Post". :-/ I was curious about the technique(s) you used in Photoshop to get that effect on the pic. Though I don't want the magician to reveal his tricks so I would fully understand if you prefer to not go specific too much. But if you want to share your experience, it would be a great opportunity for everyone. :) -

Great edition of a great pic Xclusiv8! It looks like a cartoon where the author would be a former pilot overwhelmed by his souvenirs and just after that box, you have a full page draw. Do you mind if I ask what effects is in Photoshop? -
Custom plane in campaign
FrankD replied to jdbecks's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
Hello jdbecks, please try C:\Users\name\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Europe\Campaigns\campaigne2 There you should find the files "campaigne2.ini" and "campaigne2_DATA.INI". In other words, as far as I know, the main ".ini" file and this campaign's folder must have the same name. PS: By the way, the update to get GR.4 from the Tournedo GR.1 was finished in 2003, so the ServiceYear may be a bit off for the 1979 campaign. -

Hello Spectre8750, by installing the Weapons you provided the 16 of January, the Cerberus ECM pod's frequencies changed from : MinFreq=1.000000 MaxFreq=20.000000 to: MinFreq=0.000000 MaxFreq=0.000000 is it by design? -

Calculating a Booster's Acceleration?
FrankD replied to FrankD's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Thanks for the illustration Fubar, it helps to visualize the complexity of things. I was going to ask to TK about the AIM-9L's 28G of acceleration but I think that I understand his point about things being so complex in reality and "so" abstracted in the game that the figure itself doesn't really matter, it's all about the relation between the different missiles's figures and their impact on the gameplay. So, what I'm going to do will simply be to rely, as much as possible, on a single source to get some kind of a consistency, even if the figures are different than the original figures or even than some of the published sources. About the figures I have, the most detailed I found are from Falcon 4 as thrust values for different timing are detailed. The "fuel state" is not mentioned but the weight of the propellant is so, assuming that the consumption is linear (which is probably oversimplified), I could subtract the consumed propellant from the missile's weight and then calculate the acceleration... Not sure that it will really matter though, as the results will be averaged anyway. Edit: with this methodology, my results are very close to the figures calculated by TK! :) Of course, the arbitrary values quoted in some sources are still unexplainable, but I think that I now have a somewhat reliable way to get not so off from a probable "reality" figures. Thanks again for your help Fubar512! -
Hello my dear neighbours, please accept my apologies for speaking English here but my German would give you headaches so let's say that it's to preserve your health. ;) In a Gepard's post about the Russian AAMS, I read a word that I'm not sure to have translated right and I would like a clarification from a native german speaker. http://combatace.com...523#entry126523 The word is "Lenkflugdauer". I know that flugdauer is about a flight duration but I'm not sure about the "Lenk" prefix, and thus if it's realy about the missile's flight duration (even if it's highly probable) or about another duration. Thanks for your forbearance

Great! Thank you very much for the clarification Toryu, no more guessing.

Calculating a Booster's Acceleration?

Calculating a Booster's Acceleration?
FrankD replied to FrankD's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Thanks for your attention and your answer Fubar. I thought that the "peak" acceleration was the Acceleration expressed in M/S², which is very probably a wrong assumption since, going that way, the figures would be much higher than what we have in the ini. As Google led me to earthquake simulation related document that seen me lost after the first page, could you please explain, if you don't mind to probably raise even more questions, how to calculate that peak acceleration? Best regards -
Calculating a Booster's Acceleration?
FrankD replied to FrankD's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Mmmmh, Google may not be enough to patch up for my ignorance in physics after all. I thought I understood how to compute the , but I'm obtaining results that doesn't match with published figures. here is how I would calculate the Booster Acceleration for an AIM-9J: I know the amount of Motor Impulse, which is expressed in Lbs-sec: 8800 I know the weight of the Missile, which is expressed in Lbs: 170 I know the booster's burn time (aka "BoosterDuration" in TW's parlance), which is expressed in Seconds: 2.2 Now, I go on the Force Equation Formulas Calculator page, I select "acceleration" as the variable to solve and I input the Force and Mass figures, then I launch the calculation to obtain the result, expressed in m/s², as shown below: Now, to obtain the result expressed in G, I switch to the Acceleration Unit Converter page, thanks to Fubar512, and I enter the figures expressed in "metre per second per second" with five decimals, to obtain an acceleration of 51.76471G, as below: Now, I divide the Acceleration, eventually expressed in G "per second per second" by the booster's burn time, expressed in second, so 51.76471 / 2.2 = 23.5294136 or, reduced to two decimals, a BoosterAccel of 23.53 (G). That is a pretty wide "near miss" compared to the 28G quoted on the "Air-to-air missile non-comparison table" or even computed by TK himself. So dear knowledgeable modders amongst the wisest, where did I gone wrong in my calculation? -
Length does matter
FrankD posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Hello ladies and gents, my browser can testify that I searched hard but I eventually found no firm answer so, as far as you point me to the exact answer, you can clown as hard as it please if it already exist. In the data.ini, in the [AircraftData] section, does the ReferenceLength of an aircraft have to be with the pitot tube's length, for when it's on the nose of course, included? Another way to ask it would be to know what exactly is the ReferenceLength for? Thanks for your attention and your invaluable input. Best regards. -

Problem with Mirage Factory F-5E cockpit
FrankD replied to exhausted's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
As far as I remember correctly, the F-5E from Spectre8750's War For Israel is pretty good in regards of the cockpit. While curious about that two seater, I checked the files and I may have noticed a few things. It seems that there may be missing files in the F-5F's Cockpit folder as the "F-4D_MIRROR.BMP", "F-4E_PANEL.BMP" are mentioned in the PitF5E.LOD but not present as a file. Same for the "A-4E_ATTITUDE.BMP", which looks very similar to the "F-4E_ATTITUDE.BMP" though, so there may be a choice to be made in the LOD file. Also, the file "F-4E_radarPPI.bmp" is mentioned in the "F-5F_AVIONICS.INI" but is not in the pit folder. By the way, in the "F-5FFRONT_COCKPIT.INI", the Instrument[017]=ARM04 have an "ItemNumber" value of 9, while the Instrument just above it have an "ItemNumber" value of 6. So, shouldn't its "ItemnNumber" value be 7 instead of 9? I'm joining Exhausted here to thank all the people that devoted their time to develop and convert such full of fun planes. Best regards -

Forgot to mention two small issues. The gun rounds counter on the hud doesn't seems to work but I haven't been able to identify exactly what's wrong in the ini. Also, there's no 1200-ltr Drop Tank (M2k_RP1200) on Mirage 2000. Instead it's a 1300 liters one (known as "RP62") with 1001 Kg of JP4 in it. -

Libya - Ver 3.75
FrankD replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
After further testing, it seems that there must be something wrong in my file, as I added the line "WaterMap=LIBYA_WATER.BMP" in the "Libya.INI" but the ships are now generated on land and vehicles now have the temptation to taste salted water. Would anyone know if it's my bmp that is corrupted or that have I forgot to include something in the ini? Best regards -
news flash from the desert
FrankD replied to KnightWolf45's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
The F-104G were retired in September 1983 and the Mirage 5BA retired in 1991 as they come back from Turkey, were they flown their last mission as CAP/Intercept over the Iraqi border during the '91 Gulf War (Operation "Ace Guard"). So, in 1992, the Belgian Squadrons were all on F-16, Block 15 OCU being the most advanced version in service. Their weapons would be the ubiquitous AIM-9 (N or L) and Mk-82/84 plus Snakeye. Their primary mission would be Intercept, CAP maybe Escort, and would have Strike as secondary mission. Good luck with your project -

Hello pilots, could someone point me to a reliable and exhaustive source about the A-7E Corsair II and its upgrades? Particularly, I want to know if and when they were updated with a passive (RWR) / active (jammer) ECM and a TACAN (ARN-118?). Also, could you please clarify something that is bogging me for some time now. The small bulb below the air intake, is laser designator (Pave Penny?) or laser "receiver"? The books I found talks about the A-7D but few details is wrote about the men's version. Thanks for your attention and thanks by advance for the knowledge you will share. ;) Best regards
