  1. Cosmos. If you want some heavy air combat action i can recomend RFC-28 in early to mid october of 1917. Stationed near the front and i encounter 5+ enemy aircraft every misison. (sometimes none but sometimes jumped by 10 or more) I even had to change the friendly flight settings from normal to large flight since my 2 wingmates were just getting swallowed whole by the mass of enemy craft in that area. I understand wanting to fly from the begining of the war to the end. I usually do the same in my flight sims. But like Olham says. Just start somewhere in 1917. With flying 1 or 2 missions every day the end of the war wont come fast enough for ya.
  2. I have pilot settings on DiD dead IS dead. But in the last two sorties ive been forced down behind the lines on one occastion, and all together shot into flames on the next. I think ol' boschy has it out for me. Anyway, no hospitalization, no burial ceremony. Just a pat on the back for a good mission and time to fill out some claim reports. Anyone else have the case of the 'pilot that wouldnt die'. Almost dont feel like bringing this up because i've racked up a nice 18 kill tally. Kinda feels jaded though since this pilot really should be dead. Moments before Mack McRoy was forced to land behind enemy lines a photographer snapped this shot.
  3. Hehe cosmos i was just going to come and post about how even on "light" reginal air activity im outnumbered in my "large" friendly flight size by 3-1. Im flying RFC-28 out of Droglandt. Well, i was untill my wingman and i were jumped by 5 albatri over Proven. Are you flying with TAC (the radar) off or on? I usually fly with it off. But if i hear those air sirens wailing i turn it on real quick (like scaning the skies) and see if there are any nearby enemy. Glad to see you got the game up and running though. S! and gl.
  4. Hey ya'll just had an intense fight with a good albatross stick. All the members of his flight were in gold w/multi colored fighters while he was in an all black w multi colored wings and tail. Just got me thinking. If you down a famous ace do you ever find out about it somehow? I noticed in the "todays news" in the campaign mode it sometimes has a blurb about famous aces who died. I just always assumed it was just a historical timing thing. Anway, just wanted to know if the game gives you any heads up if you down an allstar. PS - Im playing with tags off so.....cant tell that way. S!
  5. A letter to Mr Newby

Be sure to tell Cecil's younger brother that those big metal contraptions on the front of his aircraft actually shoot smaller metal projectiles at amazing speeds. Even capable of damaging an enemy without having to resort to the ramming tecnique that is so much less survivable.
  6. Finally had my first claims approved for my current DiD pilot. Realy unsure how the claims work. Seems very random although that 'may' be the point, trying to simulate typical situations in wwi at the time. But i just had 3 claims rejected in which i shot down 4 enemy planes no more than a mile from my home airfield. One enemy crashed so close to the hangars i was affraid it might hurt the ground crew bellow. I decided to land and not continue the orginal 'ground attack' mission i was assigned since i was running low on ammo after the scramble. I landed my craft at the field and simply used the pillars of smoke as my navigational point to direct the claims reporter. I was given credit for NONE of the enemy i shot down that day. However, i WAS given credit for 4 fighters i had downed a few missions prior behind enemy lines. I guess the enemy is more apt to confirm my kills than my own people. Ah well. I have 2 pilots currently going now. One of them reports claims like telling a story with lots of description. While the other simply reports facts. alt, time, #of enemy, color, loc, etc. Going to see who gets a higher claim acceptance rate. Story teller is currently 4 confirmed out of 17 with 5 pending. while the facts reporter is 3 confirmed out of 10 with 5 pending. Anyway, thought i'd come in here and cry in my coffee a little while the boys are rearming and refuling the plane for another go at the enemy. S! PS - anyone else have their wingman go 'on leave' almost every other mission? That guy is one lazy sucker. hehe
  7. Oh the irony.

Hey now. I'm the first one in the furball to break off my juicy flailing target to go help a wingman. Not my fault he goes looking for trouble instead of STAYING ON MY WING!!! Just this morning on a routine defense patrol, i possitioned my m8's 3000 feet or more above the enemy flight before engaging. In less than 1 minute all of them were flailing on the deck and here i come to the rescue again. I feel like the english pilot in the movie "Battle of Britain" who is trying to lead the polish pilots. -Steer course two three zero. *repeat please. -Steer course TWO three zero. *repeat please. -STEER, TWO...THREE...ZERO! *repeat please. -Oh BLODDY HELL! Just follow me!
  8. I have yet to get a confirmation on any plane i have set on fire or knocked a wing off. Kinda a bummer since those are always so satisfactory. I set one plane on fire less than a mile from my home airfield and did not get credit. claims are silly that way sometimes.
  9. O's and A's

hehe i noticed this the other day. I always thought my wingman's name was London Reynolds. But its actually LAndon Reynolds. silly me.
  10. Microsoft windows error message.

Thanks SittingDuck. If/when i get that error again ill try to grab a screenie to post. And thanks for all the usefull info.
  11. 24 RFC gets a new recruit

S! PH! I live at the field at Droglandt as a 2nd LT for 28 RFC. Good pace of action near the front. A few good aces to help you out. And the Sopwith Camel is king! Enjoy your stay with the 24th. And welcome to OFF!
  12. Those are all pending claims it seems. Wait untill they are confirmed. (if they are) I think it will tell you who 'witnessed' the crash to help confirm the kill.
  13. Enjoying the fruits of your labors guys. Great news!
  14. You guys just cost me $1400 US!

Slick Wil, that setup is very simmilar to my own. I have just 4gb of ram and am running an amd 3.1 dualcore. I have vista64 basically because they were going to charge me 'more' for XP. Anyway, with vista you get more use out of that ram you have. And im just scared to buy anything microsoft that they dont want you to have anymore. Support seems to go bye-bye for them. S! And welcome to the addiction my friend. ps - the game runs great on my set up btw.
  15. Flying in the warm sun...

And when you lose your favorite pilot to a cloud....you just may go back. Clouds 3 Enemy 0 ...so far in my DiD campaigns.
  16. Flying in the warm sun...

I'd love to play with the TAC off all the time. Unfortuneatly i dont have a track ir *yet. So i use the poor man's trackir via 'padlock view' in game. Problem is that you can not select a target that has not yet been recognized by the TAC screen. So if you do not have it (TAC) up when an enemy draws close, you will be unable to target and thus padlock view that enemy. You have to turn TAC on, select a target, then you can turn it back off and use padlock and next/prev target. But should any enemy other than those already near you, come close, you will be unable to target the NEW aircraft unless you switch TAC back on again. Does any of that nonsense make sense? anyway, it does to me and what it has forced me to do now is always have the TAC on but i just drag it really low in the center of the monitor so i can barely see it. But it still allows me to target enemies and i dont have to feel like im relying on it to find the badguys in combat. Anyway, ramble off. Cheers. S!
  17. Flying in the warm sun...

This is the only flight sim i play with all the labels and text warnings off. Spotting those little dots in the clouds and then trying to squint and id them as friend or foe before they get wise to your presence is great fun. I just did an escort mission last night. I had my flight perched happily about 4000feet directly above the 2 seater formation. On one of my lazy rolls i checked out the situation bellow and saw a second group of planes just behind and bellow the friendly 2 seaters. I did a nice peacefull and slow decending 360 to put us above and behind our newest group of aircraft. I ID'd them as enemy just as they started to open up on the bombers. Within seconds our flight was upon them. Moments later the few enemy planes that were left were smoking or on the deck scurrying for home. Reformed with my flight and retook our place above the bombers as they made their attack. Turned for home and didnt have another encounter. Could have been enemy in the area but the only ones we picked up were attacking our bombers. Starting to get good at id'ing planes at a distance since with no labels you have to figure out which guy to shoot at. S!
  18. Just installed ati's lates driver/catalyst update. Set the card to run on max settings. First picture is with the same "in game" settings as the second pic. Before After Also game runs like a champ even at 54453 settings. S! OFF team. Enjoying every minute.....actually hoursssss.
  19. What is the hardcore DM? what does it effect? I have 1.30 and the latest 'c' patch. But not this one.
  20. Can you see the difference?

'ball of flame' is a quick explosion animation. Sometimes even after an explosion like that the plane still wont catch fire. Im trying to get another flamer so i can get a more similar picture to the first. It's like night and day now that ive got all the goodies turned up. Even kept me smiling despite the fact that my best 2 pilots both died today. Oh well. Back to work.
  21. The Wingmen Who Would not Die!

Noticed the same thing CV. I was on a balloon defense mission just today. All 3 of my flight were shot down, one of which i saw first hand. I saw an albatross chasing one of my flight south away from the rest of the battle. I entered a gradual dive in attempt to over take them. I zoomed in as i approached and watched the german fighter shoot and tail my wingmate all the way to the ground where my poor friend blew up! I swiftly jumped on the enemies six and put him in with little reservation. I returned alone to my airfield unaware as to what had happend to the other 2. But when the debrief screen had nothing to say about my lost companion. All 3 were up for flight readyness the next day. It's almost one of those things im glad is there. I lose 75% of my flight each mission. But that's usually fighting 2-1 if not 3-1 odds. Anyway. long story short. Ya! I've experienced that too. S!
  22. So many updates so little time. I understand this likely to be the last update on BH&H for a while. Gotta say the effort by the OFF developement team in coordination with its player base is something just amazing. And besides the game itself ya'll should be applauded for it. Three cheers for the OFF team!
  23. OT Your top 3 aircraft of all time?

Oooo i love these. #1 - Spitfire (would be 1 2 and3 but that's borring.) The thing is just a beauty! #2 - p47 Thunderbolt. (built like a tank, hits like a train) #3 - Ill put the sopwith camel here. Given my limited knowlege of wwi planes and limmited time in wwi sims. But i've come to love this plane.
  24. Just currious. I love this game and am enjoying it more each day. I dont fly all full realism. I like to use auto mixture, and since i found that the ai doesnt have to deal with the wind, i disabled that as well. Just wondering though. Even with the wind disabled i still get tossed around in the clouds. I know, I know, "avoid them" well. im flying in formation and my flight flies right into the cloud with no thought otherwise. Meanwhile i get tossed around and sometimes even killed. I remember seeing other posts about this but couldnt find them. Any help appretiated. S! PS-current pilot has 4 confirmed with 4 still pending. Crossing my fingers i dont die before i get my 5th credit.
