Can you turn off cloud turbulence?
Macklroy replied to Macklroy's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
TY. Duely noted. I'll have to try 'always lead' next campaign. Having a blast in my current campaign. Except my good friend Harry Chapman was killed last misison. Been with me on every sortie since i transfered in. -

Just got back from the most amazing mission ever. Low over the front lines so many planes in the air it was incredible. I managed to separate a pair of the bosche fighters though. FIRST!!! Ever flamer in Sergent Mac L'Roys career. Almost got shot down by this poor fella's wingman while i watched. -
P3 Current Status and the future of OFF
Macklroy replied to Winder's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Wanted to add my Cheers to the list. The OFF team has done an outstanding job on this sim. First and only real wwi flight sim ive ever played. Have to say i almost feel sorry for any game that's trying to compete with BH&H. Probably the BIGEST drawback of the game is that it's piggy-backing on an otherwise subpar flight sim in cfs3. I can only immagine the wonders that would come out of a sim created from the ground up by you guys. Keep up the excellent work, you've got me as a believer now. -
My current DiD pilot sergent Mack McRoy was on his 4th mission over enemy teritory on a balloon busting mission. His small flight of 3 sopwith camels were suddenly decended upon by a much supperior flight of enemy air craft and the fight was on. In a desparate attempt to shoot 3 bosche fighters off my wingmate harlowe richardson, i was set upon by 2 more of the pesky buggers. I jinked best i could to try and keep my quarry in front of me and still not give MY pursuers the chance at a clean shot. Harlowe performed a hard roll onto his back and roared his plane to the deck heading for home. When i tried to follow the manuver i found that my poor bird had taken more punishment than i thought from my pesky friends at 6 o'clock. The plane stalled and started to spin. Loosing all my airspeed by now, the 2 bandits on my tail had no trouble overtaking me and sending a large quantity of hot lead in my general direction. Just as i was starting to realize that this could be "IT"!!!... the mission closed and kicked me out to the debriefing screen. Both my flight leader and wingman had returned home, although poor harlowe was in the hospital for 17 days after the encounter. But i was unhurt and back to flight readyness for the next mission. Im flying at 100% realism in the workshop config. (DiD setting). The only settings i adjusted as far as 'gameplay' goes is auto mixture set to on (-10%), and Guns on hard (+10%). Any reason the mission just 'quit' while i was getting hammered by the enemy? I didnt get booted from the game either. just as if i had hit esc and quit the mission. Back at debrief ready for the next day. S!

Anyone know of a better map for locating and pinpointing 'claims'. I seem to be flying over a lot of towns and villiges that are not marked on my map in game. Would be nice to be able to make note of these locations in the after action reports. S!

Touching, to see the wingmen landing
Macklroy replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I'm in the habbit now of exiting out as soon as im clear of the combat area and safely headed for my home field. Some bug in windows vista has ruined many a mission by simply shutting the game down and kicking ya to the desktop. Kind of a bummer as it is always plesant to fly home with your buddies after a succesful sortie. S! -
What do you play most? QC or Campaign mode?
Macklroy replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
QC mostly so far. I just got my new computer and already killed one pilot in my first DiD campaign. I like setting up QC's just so i can learn the tendencies of each aircraft (mine and the enemies) I'm so use to the flight characteristics of wwii planes (spitfires and hellcats) that it's like learning to fly all over again. I think the campaign mode at full realism (minus the sniper aaa fire) is really where this game separates itself from other sims though. And im looking forward to more campaigns! S! -
Sergent Mack L'Roy had just finished his 3rd DiD mission over the front lines. 5 claims and 3 confirmed so far in career. My buddy comes over to check out the new computer and OFF. So i show him some neat tricks in QC. Showing off my fighter pilot prowess. Then i loaded up a 1v1 vs a 'rookie' ai enemy flyer. I figured i'd let him give it a go. Well the ol' camel spun him right into the ground on his 2nd attemt at turning onto the bandit's 6. "you have died in combat" Mack L'Roy dead in a QC. i didnt know that they counted against your campaign status. Oh me oh my! Live and learn. Replacement pilot on his way to the field now. (ps-even with anti aliasing on at x8 samples in the cfs3 config i am getting a lot of jaggies. when i go back to the cfs3 config screen aa is set back at 'none'. Is it still at 8 even though it says none? Im playing at max resolution) S!

Now im just being picky, but what about skinning the dragons wings over the wings of the aircraft. I like the tail extending back to the rudder. Very nice plane ya got there Lou. S! -
Besides within the game itself using the 'workshop' function is there any other method in which to adjust ingame settings?
-
thanks wells. found 'overides' now.
-
Nevermind i finally figured it out. Going into cfs3 config I never noticed the word 'window' right above the safe mode check box. Found all the cool goodies under that pull down option. TY
-
Where are these options? Vertex / index buffers. Video card settings or in game?
-
"overides" i keep hearing this but i cant find. "overides" anywhere in any cfs3 or OFF config. Is that an older version of the game?
-
Who Ho , I got IT ! Ah bummer, I need CFS3 :(

Dang cosmos! Thats a total bummer m8. -
Evening all. Just currious if it was possible to turn off the clouds in game? I'm playing OFF right now on my old machine that handles the game "ok". But even at all the sliders at 2 (couds at 1) i get less than desireable frame rates. Seems like i get better frames on days with less coulds. So just wondering if you could turn them off all together? or if setting the clouds slider to 1 is the best you can do. TY in advance. Gotta get back to the camel. S!

Just finished a QC with my camel and wingmate vs. 4 albatross DIIIs (man i hope thats the right plane. im a wwi n00b). After going round and round for a few minutes trying to clear bandits off my own tail while shooting badguys off my wingmate, i finally get a great close up clear shot at the ol boys engine. He's practically FILLING my view as he tries to slip out of the way. I get right in close and pull the trigger.......nuthin! Pull it three more times nuthin, nada, zipo!!! Now my target has sliped under me and out of the way...but i got bigger problems. 3 badguys left and my guns are jammed. Normally being a QC flight and all (just for practice) i would hit esc and just start a new fight. But all the vet pilots here talkin about realism and dead is dead, i thought. "what the heck, let's see what the ol' wingmate can do." So for the next few minutes (which seemed like forever with no guns) I darted in behind any gerry who was trying to line up my buddy all the while shouting "taka! taka!taka!" at the screen like Mr.Cane in the battle of britain. It was fantastic. My antics were giving the huns fits, and since they had no idea i was unable to fire my weapons, they would break off one after the next. Finally it was down to 2v2 and one of the enemy crates was smoking and heading for home with my wingman in trail. But he had company as the last remaining german pilot was lining him up. One last time I rolled over and dove on this six and just as i was about to let loose a verbal assault on my target THE GUNS LIGHT UP!!!. And drowning out my voice was the roar of both mgs firing nicely. Perfect stream of tracer rounds right into the engine and cockpit and the agonizing scream from the german pilot as i roared past confirmed that THOSE guns were real that time. Nice little touch of realism that adds to this game every time i fly it. S!

Questions for the experienced Camel drivers
Macklroy replied to Dej's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I'm absolutely in love with the camel. I must admit. Good speed and climb. Turns on a dime when you rudder into your turn. And those double mgs make for quite a knockout punch. Ive been doing nothing but QC for the last couple of days, trying to determine my preference in plane / time period. By now i've flown probably 80% of the British and American planes and the sopwith camel still 2nd to none of them. I think when my new rig arrives ill get a campaign pilot going. Then i'll see if the old bird can handle it out there in the real war. S! As for your questions dej im no expert but this is what i've come to learn about the camel in my short stint at her controlls... *Should I expect to have to stick on loads of downward trim on the elevators? I'm not sure about how the camel performed in RL but I find about 10-12 clicks on the negative elevator trim works about right for my flying style. *I know she has a vicious and famous right hand turn but should she be so incredibly sluggish on the left? Again, I'm not expert with the RL fm of the camel but i can tell you this. Turn right! If you are comming head on with your foe be sure to enter the merge keeping him on your right. This way you can use the camels unmatched turn to get into position quickly. I found that out very quickly. If you merge with the bandit on you left and try to turn that way the old bird wants to climb away and you end up loosing speed and your turn is not nearly as tight, and you may even stall out. -
Some very nice footage there! Not too often will you find quality footage of wwi action (especially air combat). Good stuff!

I've got one of jimko's "Dawn patrol" serries as my desktop. Really top notch shots jim! -
Sorry if this is an easy one. But i've looked and looked and cant seem to figure out a way to be able to link looking around the plane with the hat switch via in game settings. Would i have to create a profile with my joystick software to mimick the numbers on the num pad? And as a second part to the question i prefer the pan look to the snap view if possible. Right now im using padlock as sort of a poor-man's track ir. But i'd like to be able to free look as well. I'd even settle for free look in the cockpit using the mouse. As that's how i've done it in most of my other flight sims. (when NOT in combat ofcourse) TY for any help. S!

Macklroy replied to Dutch_P47M's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
Dutch: My computer arrives on thursday (estimated) I went with the 4870. The computer guys down at the local computer hardware place said that it would be more than enough to handle any ap. or game. Ill post some results this weekend. Hopefully some screenies as well. S!
