Did you have a ww1 pilot in your family ?
Macklroy replied to Red-Dog's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
My grandfather flew the PBY durring the second war. Mostly rescue/recon. I really do wish i had pictues or letters to share. -
Absolutely INCORRECT. (i use a ms2 with twist stick, very effective in flying ALL plane types) The cammel IS a beast to master. And I wont say that i have even come close to mastering her. The most important thing to remember when flying the cammel is that she ALWAYS wants to turn right. If you try to yo yo (high or low) it is in your best interest to turn to your right and us LOTS of rudder. The torque provided by the engines rotation almost pushes the plane around the turn and you can turn tighter than nearly any advasary. In a hammerhead be sure to be rolling and RUDDERING to the right out of the manuver. If you do stall her....well.....that's a fight most pilots just try to avoid all together. hehe S! and GL

Glad to see you are enjoying this fantastic sim! I too came from the world of WWII flight sims and had to make the adjustment to the craft of 1915-18. Sorry i have no sugestions with the rudder problem you are having. Hope that gets worked out for ya. Welcome aboard!

I use ALL of my flights names in my reports. My confirmation % is about 80+% I also will claim about 1/2 the aircraft i actually shot down too. On a sortie over the lines where i shot down 2 or 3 enemy craft i may only claim 1 or 2. Here is an old pic of a pilot dossier with claim form. My main points in all my reports. 1 - list all my wingmen in the witness box. ex(Jeffrey Carlson, Ben Stratton, Edward Williamson) 2- Altitude of engagement (low, medium, high altitude) 3- How/where I shot the enemy (short burst to the wing, steady burst into the engine, etc) 4- How/where the enemy went down (spinning out of control, falling on fire, crashed in flames, etc) Other than that I keep my claims pretty short. PS - I also write out my directions as north east, or south west. Two words no capitals. NO idea if that matters but it seems to work for me. Cheers~

Cheers Vicshere! Im a computer newbie myself and I find nothing more frustrating than software/hardware problems when im just trying to enjoy my Flight time. Glad to hear you've gotten your issues worked out and can enjoy the OFF experience. Dont be a stranger around here either. Some really fine pilots and people around these boards. Helpfull lot too. S!

So true Olham! This is a SIMULATION in every sense of the word. I'm hoping with the turning of the weather ill be able to 'justify' some more stick time. S! -

Thinking of Buying Over Flanders Field
Macklroy replied to outfctrl's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Welcome to the OFF comunity sir. I was going to post a long drawn out explanation in your other topic about the "draw" to WWI era air combat. But I really cant put it into words myself. But Being a WWII air combat sim veteran myself, and converting over to OFF and the complex simplicity that is the SE5a, i can say without hesitation that you will enjoy your experience. The folks at OBD have really done an OUTSTANDING job with this sim and the support thereof. I often dont have time for much gaming these days. But when I do, 9 times out of 10 i fire up OFF. S! -
I had to talk to somebody about it.
Macklroy replied to Mr. Lucky's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
A TRUE sim in every sense of the genre. OBD has a gem here to be certain! -
So I've been playing the new patch quite a bit and am really loving it. I had a balloon busting mission today and the BOOMING of the flak bursts around my small flight as we approached was truely scarey! I made one pass and climbed for the blue sky above. FPS for me are solid and the graphics are a great plus. Kudos to the OFF team for everything. If you could break the barriers brought up by the cord tied to the CFS3 engine there would be NO stopping you guys!!!! Now to my point.... I am one of the unfortuneate who does not have TrackIR. But for me the padlock view suits my needs along with a small dose of panning view before the heavy combat stuff. One of my biggest issues was that the padlock feature didnt work effectively with 'next' and 'previous' target keys if the TAC was not up. Sometimes not cycling through all the targets. So I leave the TAC up, but a floating GPS radar map in front of me sorta ruined the immersion of my WWI flight experience. I've found a happy middle ground by moving the TAC all the way to the bottom of the screen. It seems to blend in with the cockpit dash while in battle and I dont even notice it anymore. I also set the view to only a 2m radius, and as you can see from the pic below, I have no "radar" view of the aircraft behind me (although the TAC allows me to cycle through those targets still). Just thought some pilots who use padlock like i do but aren't friendly with the TAC screen would find this usefull. S! Just a few pics for your viewing pleasure.

THAT kind of support is unbelieveable. I mean really. You could run a business on that type of support alone! Oh ya, btw they have one FANTASTIC product too! -

This game....sorry, this sim is by far the most 'hands on' supported of ANY sim/game i've ever played. To be able to so closely interact via these forums with the creators of such a great gaming experience is a great bonus. Keep up the great work guys and know it IS appretiated! S! -
Everyone has they're opinion. In mine, this patch is the best of them so far. Improved scenery, improved performance, improved dm. I've only put in an hour or two with it but so far two thumbs up. Sorry to hear you're having problems with it Winston, but i think a majority of the OFF pilots enjoyed the new update. Should the "patches" be called "updates" so you dont get the feeling that it's a broken product they're trying to fix? S!

Well, well. What a plesant suprise to see the new patch all ready to go! Gave the old bird a workout this morning. Took a wingman up against four Alb III's. Whatever ya'll did is GREAT! The game has never Looked or Run better than it does now. Bravo team! Im excited to get back up in the air over flanders fields. S!

Quite! I stowed an extra case of frances finest for all to enjoy!
-
WOW! Was away for a week and this thing really BOOMED! I Love it! Very nice work (as usual) Olham. Such a great group of V-pilots we have here over the fields of flanders. It's nice to see at a glance, all the interesting places, near and far, that we all come from. Bravo S!

Great pic! unfortuneatly i have very little knowlege of wwi aviators and thier mugs. But it is great to see pics like this of real history!

Welcome jimgad. As with most of the OFF pilots here, I'm sure a good portion of your summer will be spent inside!

Claim form shortened by quite a bit
Macklroy replied to Ryan H's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
First of all, glad to see another pilot enjoying OFF. It is a great game. As far as naming that airfield as a wittness. I have not tried that before, but in my claim form I will make a note at the end. "Enemy machine wittnessed crashed near (aredrome name)." or " Enemy craft downed in flames north west of (aredrome name)." My kill confirmations have been quite high. I do not think the "Exact" lat and long are necessary. But again this is all just from my 'limited' experience in game. Also, claiming 5 on one form is not unlike putting all of your eggs in one basket. If the home office is prepared to credit you with 4 confirmed kills but you have put in a claim form of 5 kills you will recieve none! I try to make it a practice, when in engagements that result in multiple enemy machines downed, to either break up the claim into two smaller claims, or simply claim a more conservative number (say 3, if you got 4 or 5 you'll at least get credit for 3). That has helped my confirmation percentage. I usually get about a 90% confirmation now, as before i was getting 50-60%. S! -
Why does my plane's engine always cut out above 10,000 feet
Macklroy replied to jack72's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
1st question i have. Do you use "auto mixture" or "manual control" in the workshop settings? your engine runs on a combination of fuel and oxygen. At higher alts there is less of the later so you need to "lean" out your fuel mixture. (so you dont end up with TOO much fuel and not enough air, thus flooding the engine and killing it). If you have auto mixture set you dont have to worry about that. Hope that helps. If not.....well i tried. hehe S!~ -

crash back to player game screen
Macklroy replied to carrick58's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
Hopefully you chaps can get an 'official' reply here. But from my experience, if you machine is shot up to a point that it can no longer sustain flight, OFF will end your mission right then. Can be a bit of an immersion killer as there are times in which it ends the mission quite prematurely. I dont think this is a bug, more than just how the game functions. It 'would' be nice if you could ride it all the way down, but sometimes you are not given that option. Hope that helps, and no its not YOUR computer or game, it works this way for us all. -
changing the names of pilots in squadron
Macklroy replied to Waldemar Kurtz's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Im no computer guru, but i found where i 'thought' the names were located in a txt file in the OFF folders. But when I changed them and saved it the names never changed. But i may not have been in the right place.
