deleting pilots
Broadside uda Barn replied to Broadside uda Barn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
doesnt matter. Deleting the few pilots I did seems to have corrupted OFF. Now it locks on me on startup after the "contact, clear" screen. Starting a thread in the help forum. -
I've read that some pilots will advance the date, to simulate wounds, leave time, etc. How do you do this? I've tried adjusting the date in the main campaign room (the one with teh clock), as well as in the pilot dossier, but it wont stay. thanks! BuB

I typed that one into the one line...yeah, it's a bit difficult. Thinking of just putting easy confirmed kills on and saving the time. -
Claim report details and cryptic map numbers

turns out it was teh same Jasta. Here's my entry for all 4 kills: 10/10/1917 12h36 Flanders Droglandt Patrol Enemy Front Lines Flying: Sopwith Camel. On this day claims: 4 Alb DV . Dan Cudney was my wingman and flight leader. We took off from Droglandt at 12h35 and encounted 2 flights of Alb D.Vs. At 12:55 zulu time we came across 7 Alb D.Vs with the markings of Jasta 3. We had position of altitude and coming from behind. They turned to meet us, and I peppered the first plane that met us. I believe I hit his engine as I saw puffs of immediate smoke and sparks. He quickly lost alitude and crashed about 2 miles North of La Gorgue. Next I spotted another Alb. D.V trying to climb away from one of our boys. I turned to meet him and he stalled at a very inconvenient time, right in my gun sites. I fired a long burst into him as I closed on him. I must have hit his rudder and struts as he lost control and crashed about 1 mile North of La Gorgue at zulu time 12:56. We continued on our patrol and came across another flight from Jasta 3, and I immediately noticed the purple and black Alb. D.V of Franz Bacher, the famous German ace. They passed below us and began to climb. I sped past and circled as I followed Bacher's plane. I dove on him from above and behind, and he went into a steep dive. I followed and opened fire. I was a quite nervous, and loaded in all, about 200 shots into him. I shatered his lower left wing, and he lost control, spinning to the ground where he crashed. this was at Zulu time 13:06 and 8 miles SE of La Gorgue, right over our front lines. As I gained altitude, I saw a camel (I think it was Tallon) attacking another ace. I positioned myself on his right wing and we both fired on the ace. He turned to the right, and tried to dive, coming right into my sites. I unloaded 100 bullets into his cockpit area. I hit his engine and he crashed. This was 10 miles SE of La Gorgue. All in all, we're putting up a fight eh?. Witnessed by: Tallon Allen, Ren Denton, Dan Cudney Status : Pending . Decided to err on the "wordy" side, as per winston's suggestion. -
Claim report details and cryptic map numbers

In the claim form, after witnesses it says: Quantity, then aircraft, then cirucmstances. Do I need to make a heading for each kill? Our flight hit a group of 7 Alb D.Vs from Jasta 3. I downed 2 of them. Then later, we ran into another group from Jasta 3, this time a bunch of aces (like 3 of the flight had names, instead of standard "Alb D.V", so I'm assuming they were aces? Anyway, I downed 2 of that flight as well. So do I make 4 separate entries, of quantity 1, 2 entries of quantity 2, or 1 entry of quantity 4, all with the specifics of each kill? thanks! BuB -
The old guys who mocked the muppets from the balcony are Statler and Waldorf. Keep up the good work OvS! BuB

I can see the damage....all the way from my lower wing after the strut being chewed up, or GONE! to holes in the wings...not super clear, but they are there. I think my resolution is on 4 or 5. zoom in on it, that might help. and this comes from the faq: Q19. In the workshop, the ultra high res aircraft skin detail says there is no visual damage. If I use that does that mean I won't see bullet holes, missing wings, etc? A19. Well this is a new, enhanced, mode which bumps up the skin resolution. We like the visual difference but the price is that you will not see decals (bullet holes, canvas tear) but you WILL see broken wings on most craft. We were going to remove this option but found many of the team enjoyed it, so left it there as an OPTIONAL setting. Default is Normal high res. HTH

Jim I seem to remember seeing the number 50,000 sold on thei rwebsite when I purchased my copy a few weeks ago....

I like the moderators here just fine. I read a post about the other sim on bluesnews.com (news for games...great site), followed the links, found a reference to OFF, googled it, and ended up here. I made a post asking some reasonable questions about OFF, got a great reception, and bought OFF just on that recommendation alone (along with pedals, and TrackIR). I like it here. I like the people and how mature/helpful/interesting they are. Same goes for the moderators/developers. So, keep up the good work moderators! You too developers! and for Ttiger and the few of you who dont like OFF, the moderators, or the English Beat :

Claim report details and cryptic map numbers

Steve--So that would be 80 nautical miles? Also, is it necessary to write out the lat. and longitude? It's so tedious while in flight to do it...not fun. -
Big Jim! Turn off wind effects for now in the workshop. Unless you are mixing your own fuel, this puts you at a disadvantage, cause you cant mix when facing tough winds...that's often why the ai can out climb you etc. Take off the wind effects, put your mix on auto, and you're back on equal ground. Next big help, that I got a few days back, is fly in late spring...very pretty, very decent weather. Summer is great too, tho the months are a bit off from what you have in North America. And, copy and paste the names of your flight group, into a word document. you can windows-key out of OFF with no issues when cfs3 isnt running....ie when you arent actually in the air. You can also take a screen shot. I've found that if I can survive a few missions, I'm flying with the same guys...meaning you only have to write their names once. I use the copy/paste method for flight names. The ai is tough in this sim, but I keep finding that if I just fly smart, I do ok. It's when I get greedy, or push it, I pay dealy. Put our pilot on easy die roll, so you dont die so often from survivable crashes.... hope this helps BigJim! BuB

OFF Forum Pilots Maps
Broadside uda Barn replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Very nicely done Olham! Gwar--are you the same Gwar from Descent? -
Saw a post regarding this series over on SimHQ awhile back. There are 8 parts to the series here on youtube. enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmu-UdAAKdY...feature=related Interestingly, they state that the average life expectancy of a pilot in 1917 was 12 days. I had remembered 2 weeks, but it's pretty much the same.... However, 17 hours is a lot different than 12 days in OFF. Uda

Suggested Graphics Settings
Broadside uda Barn replied to CaptSopwith's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Homeboy, I finally got rid of all my white triangles when using TrackIR with yours and Rabu's settings. However, my system is quite a bit more powerful as is my video card: i920 260 GTX 896mb nvidia gfx can you recommend any settings that I might be able to change in order to get better graphics/results? -
How do YOU write your claim form?

I found a great use for my 2nd monitor: I open a word document and just copy and paste my flight pilot names into it, while OFF is still running. Winston's thread helped as well. Too bad we cant save information in the flight log, but instead it only saves in the claim form... -

Sadly, Fritz crashed behind enemy lines and was captured and in prison for the rest of the war. Is there anyway to find out if his pending claims will be confirmed? -
Anyone flying full DiD Standard ?
Broadside uda Barn replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thanks for the suggestions. If I get a pilot to actually live past 3 missions, then I'll be ready for Siggi's board. Great hanger video! LOL, I always just leave the blasted crate where it stops (last night, it stopped at the edge of the field, about 1 foot from a tree) and let the mechanics and field crews do their jobs.....tho it's a longer walk to the pub. Gonn have to try getting it closer -
Anyone flying full DiD Standard ?
Broadside uda Barn replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I'm glad to read about all the various setups people are using. I've been flying with full everything, except for the tac and the wind, but afte 20 or so pilots, none of them reaching more than 2 missions, I'm ready for a change. I think I'm going to go with the middle option for crashes. I fly well, I shoot down planes, I nurse them home, I play defensively, then I tilt a wing at 6 mph on landing and die (most frustratingly, after an hour of nursing a plane back over the front..meh). I understand not surviving a crash from 1000 ft (anyone tried the option for bailout "o" ? cant get it to work....but that would be awesome), but comon! Death from a crash while landing at 10 or less mph?? that's not realistic...a piston thru the right eye might happen every 20 times, but hey! I can fly with one eye! Prop shards thru the heart? Yeah, I can buy that, but you have to be going fast enough to shatter the prop. If 120mph winds cant do it, why would a crash at 8 mph? heh :scout: Warp is important too. Tried my first 10 or so pilots to not use warp, but warp to the first way point is fair, as is labels (I JUST started using them yesterday...wow that makes a difference) for a brief moment to get the info of the plane you are downing. TAC at 4mile distance...very fair. Maybe we should petition for a DiD for the time challenged people (add warp to first way point, etc)...? -

Sweet! I'll load everything up. I was kinda waiting to see what was up with the mismatched files. But I guess everything is under control, or soon will be with that issue? Sitting Duck, I'll take you up on your offer. Probably sometime saturday I'll have some free time. I'll try to make myself available when you have some time. I'll pm you later in the week... I hope to make it to the Sunday flight (I'm 3 hours behind CA, and 6 behind NY, and my sunday mornings are free, so hopefully I can be there). -
What nationality are you?
Broadside uda Barn replied to Herr Prop-Wasche's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
California boy, thru and thru. Born in Santa Barbara, spent 20 years in the wine country north of San Francisco (enjoying the wine and fishing as much as I could), and transplanted now to Oahu, Hawaii. Italian name and heritage, but english/irish/scottish mix from my mom's side. Italian cooking is my favorite, and yes SUSHI FTW! Another great reason to live in Hawaii! Sushi everywhere, anytime. -
What is your joystick button config?
Broadside uda Barn posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
My Sidewinder FF has 8 buttons, a throttle, and an 8 way hat. Wondering what would be best for these 8 buttons. Button one is trigger of course, Button 2 is bombs I have a button for cycle view (is this against the DiD quarum?) one buttone for next target one button for zoom in one button for zoom out now's the time to change buttons, tho....before I get used to it. What commands do you recommend for the stick? and as an aside, what are your most used keyboard buttons (besides mashing U for unjamming guns )
