HitR update 1.46 - fuel
Broadside uda Barn replied to hoongadoonga's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Great responses. I'm glad we have OBD doing such an outstanding job to create such a fun and immersive sim, for the genre that we all enjoy and are interested in. Such attention to detail, and such an incredibly complex total conversion, makes me wonder why OBD hasnt been picked up to produce this product on a more current engine....or perhaps they have :) -
HitR update 1.46 - fuel
Broadside uda Barn replied to hoongadoonga's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
There are already deductions for realism for those things, we're not "starting" with petrol management, so why would plane manoeverability thru fuel manipulation be any different? Your argument makes no sense. You dont want fuel manipulation to affect your realism percentage. I think it affects realism just as much, and even more so, than "flight claims", and other aspects of the game that give a HUGE realism percentage deduction. How about if we just agree to disagree on this, as I think we've both made our points, and the devs have also stated clearly their thoughts on the matter. Exactly. I see your point here. All I'm saying is use the fuel that is loaded for the mission. period. Manipulation of the fuel beyond what the mission has listed, calls into question the realism factor, which should be accounted for. As to full tank levels, I think the points were also extremely well made above for full fuel loads in regards to potential flight times and occurrences. Dogfights occured when not anticipated, and lengths of flight could be much longer than the mission parameters, so going up with limited fuel (if sufficient fuel was available), would be very unwise. -
HitR update 1.46 - fuel
Broadside uda Barn replied to hoongadoonga's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Sorry that you dont like it, but just because a pilot *could* have done something, doesnt mean they did. It CERTAINLY was not the norm. Mannock tinkered with his engine for more power, for higher alt. flying etc, that doesnt mean that this was the norm for pilots in ww1. That doesnt mean that I can tweak settings for OFF so that my plane flys incredibly better than other planes, and in the same comment say "oh, I'm flying at full realism". You can do that for fun. You can do that because that's what you want out of this sim. You can do that because it creates what you want in a sim. Thanks to OBD, you have these options. However, that doesnt make it realistic. Realistic is a full tank of petrol. And just so we're clear, my post is directed primarily at realism %. Tweak your fuel settings? Fine! Reduce the realism % by 40% at the minimum (50% is more accurate according to the realism setting percentages that are already in the game). You want to fly it for full realism? Dont mess with the fuel loads unless your mission calls for it. regards, -
HitR update 1.46 - fuel

I agree with Pol and Shredward. It shouldnt be an option. Lessening the fuel is more of a "cheat" than many other options in the workshop. Even if it is optional in the workshop (I'd rather that time be used for far more productive and needed things), it should carry a HEAVY subtraction in realism % (50% or more would be appropriate, since claim forms are 40%, etc). Broadside uda Barn replied to hoongadoonga's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
The sim is all about realism, right? That's why there's all this "DiD" realism posted all over the forums. So, seems that the options are two: 1--leave it the way it is, 100% fuel load, which means 100% realism, and the way the plane was flown in WW1. 2--Make it an option in the settings, to "allow variation in fuel load" and subtract for realism rating. Adjustment being = -40% realism* *This puts the fuel load adjustment on par with turning off claim forms (also 40%). Really it should be -50%, which is the same as 'flight model realistic' being adjusted to 'flight model medium realism', since this is essentially what is being done...adjusting the realism factor. I fly my camel with full fuel, and it's rare that I find anything/anyone that can keep up, loading less fuel will REALLY take it to the next level.... -
Randomly generated wingman outcomes
Broadside uda Barn posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Does HitR address the random outcomes generated for your wingman? OFF will produce outcomes for your wingmen that dont really happen...for instance if I protect my 2 wingmen and bring them home safely, the log may show one of them died. Or No action, no sightings, etc, yet one of my wingmates will have a kill for that mission. Up to this point, it's been randomly generated, which is a real immersion killer and made me stop caring about who was in the squadron and what they were doing. Hopefully this got addressed...? -
HITR Crash animation

In that case, make sure you have a chocolate covered prune with you, and as you're smoking and burning on the way down ask "hey! What do I have that's worth livin' for?" -
HITR First Impressions
Broadside uda Barn replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Does the install of the xpack require adjustments to controlls/graphics, like reinstalling does? I dont have time right now to play OFF, much less to try to figure out how I had things set up if it happens to tweak/alter my settings, but I would like to get the update. Been so long since I tweaked everything, that I cant remember what I tweaked to get it running great lol -
Movie and Book to occupy my time
Broadside uda Barn replied to Check Six's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Actually, besides the competition which is enjoyable, I think it has a lot to do with reading. I read voratiously as a young man, and it was the biplanes that always interested me the most, more than any other plane. When I first played "Red Baron" in the arcades (remember that game?) it finally put me where the books had put me....right in the pilot seat. That experience was fueled by Richtofen's War (the old avalon hill bookshelf game)...but it was still in my imagination. When Wings came out for the Amiga, then it was less about my imagination and more about the immersion. So....immersion that once was from books, is augmented and trumped by video games. It's about the immersion of the experience. I bought "winged victory" by Yeates and am reading it slowly, but it doesnt compare to flying and hearing the sounds.... That's my thought on the question. Good question btw. -

yeah, thanks. I tried those, still lots of shimmering. Was wondering if he kept the same settings with the newer drivers... -

Rabu/Hellshade: can you post your nvidia control panel settings? are you getting any shimmering/swimming on the horizon and on the ground? I'm seeing lots of shimmering/swimming on the ground and in the distance. Cant get rid of it, and have tried multiple configurations. Just thought I'd try your settings before reverting to my previous drivers. Thanks! -
Config Overrides Settings - Error
Broadside uda Barn replied to a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
file this in the "hope it doesnt happen to you...but" file. I had this happen, got the reinstall OFF message, got around it by configuring properly, but every so often I started getting odd error messages. Finally I reinstalled OFF as it told me to originally, and all problems are gone. -

anyone have any problems at all with these drivers? Seems like it's got the all clear to upgrade.... -
I'm currently reading Winged Victory by Yeates. Very poetic...heh, and the verbage is slightly different than one might be used to, but I'm enjoying it. Thanks for the tip on an Ace Minus One. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Overclocking may not be doing you any good....
Broadside uda Barn replied to a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I dont overclock at all, and have the white jagged triangles, which I'm assuming is "tearing". It only happens on sunny days (never on a cloudy day), and only when nose up, so that turning to my six position shows the ground. This happens at 60fps or 30 fps...doesnt matter. I personally think this is a product of TrackIR turning too fast, but I dont know how to turn that down so as to test this theory. Glad you fixed it tho! -
Immersion? You've got to be kidding!
Broadside uda Barn replied to Canvas Wings's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
A couple of times I've had pilots (and gunners) jump right in front of me as I'm on their six. Never hit one, tho I've swung wide to miss them. anyone ever hit a pilot with his plane? I vaguelly remember hitting falling pilots in RB3D while they were falling.... -
Hows the install of OFF?
Broadside uda Barn replied to Roger55's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
No you dont have to every fly cfs3. Put the OFF DVD into the drive, follow the instructions. When it says to put in your cfs3 cd, put it in (make sure it's 3.1 version, and also it must not be a copy.). It'll copy what it wants from cfs3, then ask for the dvd of OFF again. Put it in, and after it installs, install the super patch, then the mini patch (I think F is the last one), and play. Follow the instructions for setup in the OFF FAQ, as it will save you lots of time, and get you running asap. HTH. -

Part 1 part 2 part 3 part 4 part 5 part 6 Quite an amazing documentary. It's in 6 parts. Enjoy! -
I've got a pilot with 47 confirmed kills, 5 medals, who enlisted as a seargent, and STILL is a seargent. Wierd. You'd think that I'd be promoted with having flown so many missions and with so many victories. ....?

New NVidia Drivers 190.62
Broadside uda Barn replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I think the white triangles have something to do with trackIR moving/turning too fast. Since there's no real documentation or instructions for it, it's hard to adjust things to gauge if that's true or not. I'd like to hear more about users playing OFF with these drivers before upgrading to them. -

promotions
Broadside uda Barn replied to Broadside uda Barn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
lol! Well, 60 confirmed kills and I finally got promoted to 2nd lt. I rarely circle the airfield, but started doing it, then I got promoted...is that part of the mission parameters? -

4 minute 40 plan fureball video
Broadside uda Barn replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
heh, you lost everything you could there with that last burst! I could have sworn I saw a pair of underwear blow off just after your 3 wings did! lol! Yeah, these flyers are better than the campaigns...they MUST be aces. Winder/Pol/anyone? Gotta be aces cause they fly like Richtofen....just before I blew his wings off that is. -
I tried the 20 Camels vs the 20 Dr1s today....VERY FUN! I didnt have ANY slow downs either FPS remained at 60, tho I never got below 3000 ft while still alive. Pretty amazing for this sim that it can handle 40 pilots flyiing AI planes and not slow down. I know that in the campaign I've hit a 20 plane furball near the ground where FPS hit the high teens, but that just shows what the graphics down low will do. If you havent tried it, try the 12v12 or the 20 v 20. I recommend staying high, and retaining altitude at every chance!
