Awesome Velvet! Glad to hear it went smoothly. There's a couple of threads on graphic specifics...you can mess with it for a long time, or you can experiment and get it running great (as opposed to perfect, which is optimal but not practicle time wise) and then just leave it alone. Graphics options today make for some long term headaches because it's just not easy to get it 'just right'. Enjoy!
  2. Trying to keep these pilots alive is tough! One time I'm blowing wings off of a FE2b, the next I'm colliding with another plane (do I get credit for ramming?)!
  3. Getting credit for kills

Steve--That Stinks! I think I might be able to help though. Sometimes when this happens to me, I alt-tab and then click on the screen, and see if it responds. If it doesnt, I hit alt-tab again, and often this makes it respond (after hitting the pause button to un pause the game). I think this has something to do with CFS3 as sometimes I'll see a small CFS3 tab briefly as the game starts up. HTH!
  4. Getting credit for kills

Started another campaign with Deiter Schtaffle. So far he's gotten every kill confirmed. Having a tough time getting any allied planes to fight tho. they usually have altitude and just speed away in their spads. I think I'm 10 missions in, with something like 6 no contacts...tho I chased planes for a long time in many of these. Very frustrating. I never had that problem in 1917 flying for the allies. Is it the year, or the planes...?
  5. Getting credit for kills

Well, I started a German campaign, in April 1 1918. Jasta 13 JGII Flew 6 missions before I was captured. I got two kills (tho I shot down another 3, but never got the opportunity to claim them...I think my wingmates vulched them :( anyway, 2 kills, 2 confirmed. I'll try to keep a pilot alive and get 10 or more kills/confirmed, but really, I think this is the key to confirmations Olham. Anyway, if it helps, here's the entries: 1/4/1918 8h16 Flanders Roupy Scramble Flying: Fokker Dr.1 Injured & Hospitalised. Injured & Hospitalised. Claims Submitted! Flying time 2 mins . 20/4/1918 11h39 Flanders Balatre Scramble Flying: Fokker Dr.1 Injured & Hospitalised. Injured & Hospitalised. Claims Submitted! Flying time 7 mins . 12/5/1918 15h7 Flanders Nesle/leMesnil Airfield Attack Flying: Fokker Dr.1 Claims accepted: 2 Injured & Hospitalised. Injured & Hospitalised. Flying time 34 mins . 12/5/1918 15h7 Confirmation Received of Claim submitted on: 1/4/1918 8h16 Flanders Scramble Flying: Fokker Dr.1. On this day claims: 1 camel . We heard the sirens at 08h15 and had to scramble because of a flight of Camels descending on our base! I just got off the ground when they were on us, like stink on a dog. I singled out a Camel and started to turn with him, fired on him and hit his engine as I saw immediate smoke. I followed him down as he tried to regain control, but he crashed at zulu time 08:17, 3 miles SE of Flez, right over our air field! Witnesses shouldnt be a problem as even the dogs saw it! However, I'd lost valuable altitude and was engaged immediately by another 2 Camels. I couldnt get away and they hit my airelons, causing a low altitude crash. Hopefully we taught those camels a lesson: Smoking is bad for your health!. Witnessed by: Fritz Gottschling, Eduard von der Ziegler, Martin Hoyer, Alfons Hertz Status : Confirmed . 12/5/1918 15h7 Confirmation Received of Claim submitted on: 20/4/1918 11h39 Flanders Scramble Flying: Fokker Dr.1. On this day claims: 1 Spad13 . I just got back from the hospital and heard the scramble sirens at 11h38. Esc. 73 had sent a flight of spad XIIIs to attack our airfield. I bravely jumped into my D.R.1 and got off the ground, climbing as best I could. I circled away from the diving spads and they ignored me. Bad mistake. As the first Spad engaged Martin, I swung around and my first burst hit his engine as I saw immediate smoke. I broke off and turned. I stayed with him as he then climbed verticle to a stall. That was a bad move as I had 2 seconds of full bursts into his cockpit before he dove again. He crashed right on our airfield at 11:40 zulu time, 3 Miles East of Assevillers. His partner had been firing on me, but couldnt out turn my D.R.1. I spun around and unloaded almost all the bullets I had into his plane. His engine coughed up some smoke, I saw splinters from his wings, and he crashed almost immediately after that, also right on our runway! The two trails of black smoke led from my plane to the airfield where the planes are still smoking. Hopefully that'll teach Esc. 73 to mess with us! Sadly, I put down on the airfield, but couldnt stop the plane before it hit a tree. I'm injured again. 2 flights and 2 planes....I got chewed out by our commander. He said I was writing checks that my body coudlnt cash. That I'm dangerous. Humph! Time for some imported chocolate I say!. Witnessed by: Gustav Creutzmann, Eduard von der Ziegler, Martin Hoyer Status : Confirmed .
  6. Dear Acme Wire company

My name is Archibald B. Wellington, and I fly for the 28 RAF squadron. Perhaps you've heard of me? I wanted to write to you and let you know what a superb quality product you produce. You see, one of your wires, saved my life today. Let me explain: We left Droglandt at 09h42 to patrol behind our lines. At zulu time 10:06 we came across Jasta 27 Flying Alb D.Vs. This occured about 4 miles East of LaGorgue. They had position on us and dove, I noticed one pilot didn’t dive, but was circling behind me to dive on me. So I climbed to meet him and we began to fire at each other. He dove past and then climbed, I went vertical and stayed with him, firing as I went. He slipped his wing and I did the same, but he turned a bit harder than me, and so we circled and dove and kept this up for a while. At one point I dove on him, he pulled up, and I clipped his wing, shattering my right wing, both top and bottom just at the strut. The strut disappeared, but the wire held! I gave hard rudder and poured everything I had into his plane and he crashed. My wing was held on by 1 wire! I immediately looked for a landing place, and decided on a large front yard of a very nice chateau. I landed with extreme rudder…pulling right up to the house! The French family was overjoyed at meeting such a handsome pilot (I’m sure an ugly one might have gotten a nice reception at least, as they were quite nice, however being as handsome as I am, their greeting was extravagant.) As they served me cheese and a cold frothy beverage, Dan Vandberg flew overhead, signaling the all clear for me. And so as I write this letter to you and have some more cheese, I'd just like to thank you for an excellent product! Keep up the good work! I've enclosed some pictures of my plane and your amazing wire: (the pictures dont do it justice...clicking on them--especially the 2nd one--shows the 1 wire very clearly!
  7. Dear Acme Wire company

Thanks! Yeah I was having some fun with that one. Actually much of that was from my log entry. Adding the extra flare to the entries is fun. and I really AM amazed that wing held together! Unreal!
  8. Tough going

I'm just having some fun with you Olham. I agree, some of the wingman can be rather helpless...think of yourself as the grandpa of the squadron...there to look out for all the young guns. "And if none of them will fly with you, give me a call, you can be my wingman anytime"
  9. Getting credit for kills

I like to put in the time I left the airfield, and the mission type. Then I'll include "zulu time 8:47" when I down the first plane. Also the map coordinates and what damage I did to each plane and why it went down. I think that's key. Also a bit of wording in there like "the skys were angry that day" or some other corny phrase adds to the otherwise bland description...and makes it more interesting to read. I was bummed when I finally lost a pilot who I'd chronicled the slow decline of his nerves thru many different mission claims. Makes for interest in the pilot...but there's a downside, I really am frustrated when I lose a pilot like that...especially when it's something I cant affect at all, like flak, or something like that.... I will try a german campaign olham...I"ll let you know.
  10. Tough going

Olham, be easy on your wing mates, mate! Or more specifically, watch out for them. "Maverick, just curious as to who was covering Cougar while you were showboating with the Mig? iceman from Top Gun Say it with me: "I'm NOT leaving my wingman!"
  11. Getting credit for kills

I got some great input on a thread I started about kill claims. I followed it, and havent lost a claim yet (and most of my claims are for mutliple aircraft). press z after your victory and look at zulu time, note it. also press m for map, and note the distance from the nearest city (you gotta approximate it), and put NE or West of whatever town name it is. More information helps too. As an example, here's my last 2 reports from My current pilot Archie Beuford Wellington (maybe you've heard of him?) 8/10/1917 8h16 Flanders St-Omer Patrol Behind Friendly Front Lines Flying: Sopwith Camel. On this day claims: 3 Alb DIII . We took off from St-Omer to patrol behind our lines at 08h15. Less than a half hour later, at zulu time 8:39 we encountered Jasta 35 flying Alb. D.III(OAW)s at about 3 miles East of Floringham. We had altitude but were heading straight for them, and them us. As we squared off, 3 of them fired on me, and I was hit! But I didnt have time to bleed, so I turned on the nearest Alb. and climbed with him. Hard rudder brought him into my sites, and I shreded his wings. He crashed moments later. Close behind was another Alb. and so I slipped around to engage him. As he stalled in front of me, I hit his motor as I immediately saw smoke. He obviously lost some power as I kept overshooting him. I kept hitting him with short burst tho, and he crashed. I then raced to help my mates who were tangling with two more Albs. By the time I got there, one crashed, but I turned right on one as he started to climbe and I hit his engine, then his wings. He was an outstanding pilot, by I was better, using my twin guns to shred his wings. He crashed into the pine trees with no hope of control. Jasta 35 will be empty tonight.. Witnessed by: Benjamin Abbot, Simon Askew, Robbie Sarisbury Status : Pending . 9/10/1917 9h2 Flanders St-Omer Transfer Flying: Sopwith Camel. On this day claims: 3 Alb DV . We took off from St-Omer at 0900 for Droglandt, our new airfield location. Should have just been a short trip, but we got jumped by Jasta 28. Those boys are flyers! We ran into them 2 miles SW of Abeele at zulu time 09:19. I learned my lesson from the last scrap I was in, and so circled the melee looking for a target on the outer edge. I found one, zoomed in on him, and decapitated his struts with short bursts. he lost control and crashed immediately. I made a left turn and saw another Alb trying to do a wing slip, I aimed for his cockpit and didn't miss. He lost control, spinning madly and crashed right below me. I saw that Robbie had his hands full with another Alb, so I raced to get to him, diving for more speed. He was turning on Robbie quickly and I knew I didn't have much time. I started firing early, but strafed his fuselage and absolutely decimated his rudder, he started to waver as I hit his wings again and again. He veered off of Robbie, but it was too late for him, and I saw him crash into the trees below. I won't be writing to Robbie's folks today…. Witnessed by: Benjamin Abbot, Simon Askew, Robbie Sarisbury Status : Pending . Hope that helps. Havent lost a claim yet, since including all the info I could.

Creaghorn, check out the wings intro here: http://www.lemonamiga.com/?mainurl=http%3A...php%3Fid%3D1133 I did a quick search on google using "amiga wings story" and some of the links promised ability to play the game. Tho when you see that intro, it'll make you all warm and fuzzy....for just a minute, then you'll want to climb back into the arena of OFF.
  13. Gunnery

Yes, Player Stats was set to off, that's why I couldnt see it. by the 'Return to the OFF Manager', do you mean 'Auto Exit CFS3'? I have it set to on, which dumps me back to OFF after a mission (I can watch the replay still tho, and more importantly, exit to the desktop which sometimes locks up CFS3)
  14. waited since 1983

Same here. Played MANY hours of Richtofen's War. That was an amazing game really, as it outlined the planes and their strengths/weaknesses so well. I wish I still had the book as a references for the planes I'm flying now~!
  15. Been flying a few planes now, having trouble doing an immelman turn (climb and reverse direction and right the plane from the inverted position). Plane's always seem to stall, and most dont like to spin from the inverted position to the normal position. I was thinking it was speed, but speed doesnt seem to help. I switched to the camel for the easy turning (great plane by the way...been only flying for the RAF28 lately, just for the camels) and I can spin, but cant get the speed. I'm assuming it's pretty much dependant on the plane...and I've only used the allied planes so far. Or am I missing something?
  16. waited since 1983

Jimgad, cant add much to all that's been said, except what has not been said: Watch out for Archie! Vary your speed and altitude, and enjoy the flight! BuB
  17. Gunnery

Hrm....must be missing something. I tried flying a QC, watched the review, didnt see anything about accuracy. It's not in the pilot dossier either. Not for my QC pilots or campaign pilots. Is it an option to list somewhere? Sorry for being so dense....
  18. To easy?

    great one uncleal!
  19. Well, happy to report that Fritz Von Schtusselheimer has successfully completed 4 missions! Turning the outcomes to: Easy-Die Roll on Death, sure has helped! I've survived 2 crashes, one of them a landing. heh! I've actually shot some planes down, but got 2 of them denied, due to lack of corroboration, even tho both were behind my lines, and my entire flight not only witnessed them, but survived as well. I did a search and read many of the threads on claims, but I guess I'm missing something. Thought I'd post my descriptions here to see where you all might be able to give me some pointers. 26/3/1918 12h14 Verdun Mars-sous-Bourcq Patrol Enemy Front Lines Flying: Albatros DVa. On this day claims: 1 Nieuport 17 . I dove over the nieuport 17, guns blazing, and hit his tail rudder, and wings, sending him into a flat spin. Enemy went down at N49, E4, 2 miles south of Argonne. Carl-August Guhike saw the whole thing.. Witnessed by: Squadron Witness Franz Von Liebau Status : Rejected . 13/4/1918 9h2 Verdun Mars-sous-Bourcq Balloon Defense Flying: Albatros DVa. On this day claims: 1 Single Seater Type. Spad 7 pulled up in front of me, I fired into his wing destroying it, and hitting the pilot. Altitude was 3150, site of dogfight was 20 miles east of Argonne. Wingman Franz von Liebau saw it, as did Martin Schreiber.. Witnessed by: Squadron Witness Carl-August Guhike flight leader Status : Rejected . 4/5/1918 13h0 Verdun Mars-sous-Bourcq Reconnaisance Flying: Albatros DVa. On this day claims: 1 Single Seater Type. Spad 7 from the Esquadrille 124 was shot down 15 miles south west of Porcher. It was raining, and cloudy. Visibility semi-clear. Plane went into a flat spin and crashed behind our front lines.. Witnessed by: Squadron Witness Flight Leader Carl-August Guhike Status : Pending . Interestingly, there is no plane in the menu for Spad 7, only spad 13 and "single seater type", so I put that. I tried altitude, etc... What else can I add, and am I even doing it right? Also, on the map (thanks for the heads up on zoom in/out Steve Drew!), there are some cryptic map numbers that look like: N49*1'33.0251" E5*40'26.0516" I was thinking this was lattitude and longitude...but ? And...finally, is there a scale of miles? I saw a funny stick/tree like thing, which I'm assuming is a town, that said "porcher" when I put my mouse pointer over it. I just guessed I was about 15 miles from it, tho I have no scale. Any help is appreciated greatly! ...Although I understand if you dont want to help. You see, Fritz is a bit of a coward. During this last flight, He lost my flight wing, and when he shot down that spad 7, his 4 buddies (also in Spads) got really irritated and all ganged up on me. Shots hit me from all over. I thought "this is IT maverick!", but then I saw a friendly airfield, slowed down and let the spads zip by, and landed on the field (yes, this is one of the few landings I've actually MADE!). Quickly I hit escape, and ended the mission. After losing 20 other pilot friends (some of them english, but none of them French) over the last week, Fritz is a bit skittish about dying. So if you dont want to help, I/WE understand. Perhaps after my next flight, when I dont make it home, someone can write my family....
  20. Downed plane explosions

After watching Vasco's recording of MP (in the mp forum), I noticed some amazing explosions of the planes he downed. Big red and yellow explosions. Is this a mod or an addon, or perhaps an option in graphics somewhere? I only ever get a big pufft of smoke/dirt when the plane hits the ground... Thanks! BuB
  21. Gunnery

Nothing to apologize for. Many pilots have trouble with pronouncing my name
  22. TrackIR4 and old pedals to sell cheap

Homeboy, I have a friend (the one who has the mac), who is likely interested. I just fired an email off to him. He's in CA, and 3 hours ahead of me, so it's too late for me to call. He'll likely email you in the morning. Did you replace your pedals with saiteks or another type? BuB
  23. I have had this happen at least 2 times, WITH auto mixture on. I dive to get some speed, hit E to restart engine, and usually after a few attempts I'll get it going, tho sometimes I cant maintain RPMs. Then I check the map head for my lines and find a field/base to land in.
  24. Gunnery

Great question! I didnt know that it even keep s track of gunnery accuracy. Where do you find that?
  25. Immelman turn and manoevers

Trying it in the camel. Diving for speed (this bird doesnt really get a LOT of speed, usually 150mph...maybe that's my throttle or something else?), then pulling up, and mid way thru the climb, I try to roll right side up, which is where I stall and slip. If the camel werent so slip happy, this might be a great manoever, but sometimes I slip and start a horrific spin. those are rough on the nerves.
