Grumman F9F-2 Panther Aviación Naval
The only foreign buyer of the Panther was the Argentine Naval Aviation, which bought 28 ex-USN F9F-2B aircraft in 1957;
the first 10 arrived in 1958. Only 24 aircraft were put in service, the rest were used as spares.
The first flight of an Argentine Panther was in December 1958, and the last aircraft was put in service in January 1961.
The catapults on the then only Argentine carrier, ARA Independencia, were considered not powerful enough to launch the F9F,
so the aircraft were land-based. However, in July 1963 a Panther (serial 0453/3-A-119) landed on Independencia as part of trials;
becoming the first jet to land on an Argentine aircraft carrier.
Argentine Navy F9F-2 Panthers saw combat in the 1963 Argentine Navy Revolt, bombing and strafing a column of the Army 8th Tank Regiment
which was advancing on the rebelling Punta Indio Naval Air Base. The attack destroyed several M4 Sherman tanks, at the cost of one F9F Panther shot down.
The Argentine Panthers were involved in the general mobilization during the 1965 border clash between Argentina and Chile but no combat occurred.
They were taken out of service in 1969 due to the lack of spare parts and replaced with Douglas A-4Q Skyhawks.
The Argentine Navy also operated the F-9 Cougar.

ARA Independencia
By paulopanz in Aircraft Carriers
HMS Warrior was a Colossus-class light aircraft carrier which was ordered in 1942 by the British Royal Navy during World War II.
Construction was finished in 1945 and upon completion, the aircraft carrier was loaned to the Royal Canadian Navy from 1946 to 1948 as HMCS Warrior.
Warrior was returned to the Royal Navy in 1948 and entered service with the British. While in service with the Royal Navy, Warrior was modernised twice,
including the installation of an angled flight deck in 1956. In 1948–1949, the ship was used in aircraft landing experiments and fitted with a rubber flight deck and in 1957,
was used as the headquarters ship during nuclear testing at Christmas Island.
In 1958, the vessel was sold to the Argentine Navy and entered Argentine service in 1959 as ARA Independencia.
The aircraft carrier remained in service until 1970 when Independencia was placed in reserve. The following year, the ship was sold for scrap.

USS Fletcher Destoyer Class (*)
By paulopanz in Destroyers
The Fletcher class was a class of destroyers built by the United States during World War II.
The class was designed in 1939, as a result of dissatisfaction with the earlier destroyer leader types of the Porter and Somers classes.
Some went on to serve during the Korean War and into the Vietnam War.
The United States Navy commissioned 175 Fletcher-class destroyers between 1942 and 1944.
After World War II ended, 11 were sold to countries that they had been built to fight against:
Italy, Germany, and Japan, as well as other countries, where they had even longer, distinguished careers.

Forrest Sherman-class destroyer(*)
By paulopanz in Destroyers
The 18 Forrest Sherman-class destroyers were the first US post-war destroyers
(DD-927 to DD-930 were completed as destroyer leader configurations).
Commissioned beginning in 1955, these ships served until the late 1980s.
Their weaponry underwent considerable modification during their years of service.
Four were converted to guided missile destroyers.
This class also served as the basis for the Charles F. Adams-class guided missile destroyer.
Two ships of the class have become museum ships, nine have been sunk in training exercises,
and the others have been scrapped or are scheduled to be scrapped.

Armstrong Whitworth Meteor NF.12
As radar technology developed, a new Meteor night fighter
was developed to use the improved US-built APS-21 system.
The NF.12 first flew on 21 April 1953. It was similar to
the NF 11 but had a nose section 17 inches (43 cm) longer;
the fin was enlarged to compensate for the greater keel area
of the enlarged nose and to counter the airframe reaction to
the "wig-wag" scan of the radar which affected the gunsighting,
an anti-tramp motor operating on the rudder was fitted midway
up the front leading edge of the fin.
The NF.12 also had the new Rolls-Royce Derwent 9 engines and
the wings were reinforced to handle the new engine.
Deliveries of the NF.12 started in 1953, with the type entering
squadron service in early 1954, equipping seven squadrons
(Nos 85, 25, 152, 46, 72, 153 and 64); the aircraft was replaced
over 1958–1959.

Armstrong Whitworth Meteor NF.11
Although based on the T.7 twin seater, it used the fuselage and tail of the F.8, and the longer wings of the F.3.
An extended nose contained the AI Mk 10 (the 1940s Westinghouse SCR-720) Air Intercept radar.
As a consequence the 20 mm cannons were moved into the wings, outboard of the engines.
A ventral fuel tank and wing mounted drop tanks completed the Armstrong Whitworth Meteor NF.11

Grumman E-2C Hawkeye
The Northrop Grumman E-2 Hawkeye is an American all-weather, carrier-capable tactical airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft.
This twin-turboprop aircraft was designed and developed during the late 1950s and early 1960s by the Grumman Aircraft Company
for the United States Navy as a replacement for the earlier, piston-engined E-1 Tracer, which was rapidly becoming obsolete.
The aircraft's performance has been upgraded with the E-2B, and E-2C versions, where most of the changes were made to the radar
and radio communications due to advances in electronic integrated circuits and other electronics.
The fourth major version of the Hawkeye is the E-2D, which first flew in 2007.
The E-2 was the first aircraft designed specifically for its role, as opposed to a modification of an existing airframe,
such as the Boeing E-3 Sentry. Variants of the Hawkeye have been in continuous production since 1960, giving it the longest
production run of any carrier-based aircraft.
The E-2 also received the nickname "Super Fudd" because it replaced the E-1 Tracer "Willy Fudd".
In recent decades, the E-2 has been commonly referred to as the "Hummer" because of the distinctive sounds of its turboprop
engines, quite unlike that of turbojet and turbofan jet engines. In addition to U.S. Navy service, smaller numbers of E-2s
have been sold to the armed forces of Egypt, France, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Singapore and Taiwan.

Sea Venom ECM.21-22 - Six FAW.21s modified from 1957 for ECM purposes. ECM.22Equivalent of ECM.21, based on FAW.22. No armament.
In 1956 Sea Venoms, alongside RAF Venoms, took part in the Suez War which began on 31 October. They were from Nos. 809, 892, 893 Naval Air Squadrons
based on the light fleet carrier HMS Albion and fleet carrier HMS Eagle.
The Anglo-French invasion, codenamed Operation Musketeer, took place in response to the nationalisation of the Suez Canal by Egypt's leader, General Nasser.
The air war began on the 31 October 1956 signalling the beginning of the Suez War. The Sea Venoms launched many sorties, bombing a variety of targets in Egypt in the process.
By 1959, the Sea Venom began to be replaced in Royal Navy service by the de Havilland Sea Vixen, an aircraft that also had the distinctive twin-boom tail.
The Sea Venom would be withdrawn from frontline service soon afterwards. The type continued to fly with second line FAA units until the last were withdrawn in 1970

Vought F4U-7 Corsair Aéronavale
The last production Corsair was the "F4U-7", which was built specifically for the French naval air arm, the Aéronavale.
The XF4U-7 prototype did its test flight on 2 July 1952 with a total of 94 F4U-7s built for the French Navy's Aéronavale
(79 in 1952, 15 in 1953), with the last of the batch, the final Corsair built, rolled out on 31 January 1953.
The F4U-7s were actually purchased by the U.S. Navy and passed on to the Aéronavale through the U.S. Military Assistance Program (MAP).
The French Navy used its F4U-7s during the second half of the First Indochina War in the 1950s (12.F, 14.F, 15.F Flotillas)

Gloster Javelin FAW. 8-9-9R pack
The Gloster Javelin was a twin-engined all-weather interceptor aircraft that served with Britain's Royal Air Force in the late 1950s and most of the 1960s. It was a T-tailed delta-wing aircraft designed for night and all-weather operations and was the last aircraft design to bear the Gloster name. Introduced in 1956 after a lengthy development period, the aircraft received several upgrades during production to its engines, radar and weapons, including support for the De Havilland Firestreak air-to-air missile.
The Javelin was succeeded in the interceptor role by the English Electric Lightning, a supersonic aircraft capable of flying more than double the Javelin's top speed, which was introduced into the RAF only a few years later. The Javelin served for much of its life alongside the Lightning; the last Javelins were withdrawn from operational service in 1968 following the induction of successively more-capable versions of the Lightning.
FAW 8 Upgraded Sa.7R engines with reheat, raising thrust to 12,300 lbf (54.7 kN) thrust above 20,000 ft (6,100 m); at lower altitudes, the limitation of the fuel pump caused a loss of cold thrust. New "drooped" wing leading edge and auto-stabilizer for better handling. Short nose.
FAW 9 A total of 118 FAW 7s refitted with the revised wing and engines of the Mk 8. Wet pylons. Long nose.
FAW 9R (range) fuel probe added.

FAW 7 Introduced new Sa.7 engines with 11,000 lbf (48.9 kN) thrust each, powered rudder, extended rear fuselage. Armed with two 30 mm ADEN plus four Firestreak air-to-air missiles. 142 produced.

This is the long awaited MiG-25 interceptor models upgrade. Sadly the new model and the new proper pit seem disappeared, as some other dreamed great preview planes, like vaporware.
But now we have these "oldies but goldies" revamped ...
And if you'ld like to fly for freedoom as Lt. Belenko you can do as his plane is inside the pack.
As I remember well when the most feared soviet MiG, landed on Hakhodate Japan airport ....
Old glory, good, cold war years, when you'ld see your enemy quite straight in his icy eyes.
Enjoy.
