  1. Ah that's what I was afraid of. I'll give it a go on my own and check in back if I'm having trouble.
  2. If you mean the Bulge on the side of the nose, it can be seen here on a Belgian Block 1: http://www.f-16.net/..._item17381.html Downloading SF2I now... do I just need to extract the objects file to get the aircraft out?
  3. That's a generous offer Dave. For starters, I'm really looking into what it would require to add the SF2I Viper to the 1979 campaign - that way, TK gets some money from me too. I'll open a separate thread, not to derange this further...
  4. That said, JediMaster gives me an idea - is it possible to export/import SF2I F-16 and maybe Mirage III to SF2E in the 1979 campaign, to give me some more "Stock quality" aircraft choice? With appropriate US and French Skins these wound round out the 1979 campaign nicely (if being a slight stretch as the first Vipers only became operational in 1980)... I don't want SF2I merged install or anything - the conflict simple doesn't interest me. But these two AC would be worth my 20 bucks.
  5. Well, I actually helped beta-test the NF4+ addon (as you know) so it's not like I didn't try it. To me, the problem is - and I say that without any intent to insult any of the modders offering so much time - that the quality difference between stock aircraft (cockpits especially) and addons is sometimes just too large for me to keep the immersion up. This is understandable, seeing that people are working on them in their free time. But it doesn't help me enjoy the game. Also, as we are all aware I think, FM design is a bit of a dark art, so unavoidable, a large bunch of addon aircraft from different people will not usually perform "by the book" compared with each other. I know that some AC in NF4+ have pretty awesome pits (Fiat G.91 I remember) and I wouldn't mind some more varied AI opposition. But the entire download is too large for my liking (I'm on a limited 128GB Solid State Drive - super fast, but pricey for each GB). And filtering trough individual addons, adding them in the campaign data files... it gets too tiresome. I'm not saying this to insult the modders hard work or to carry a "badge of honor" - for me, it's simple important to have a "smooth package" that fits together. Playing Stock Aircraft, this is the case. I first tried modding with FEG, and the first thing I downloaded was a Nieuport 17 that outclimbed my Fokker DVII. Simple that wasn't what I was looking for.
  6. Thanks you two for the awesomly quick replies. Aggies, that's the file I'm using, I still have it on my memory stick with the very same filename of the download here. I could try redownloading but I'm 99% sure it's the same version with the same timestamp. Could it be because I edited Stary's terrain to have no seasons, and only copied the contents of the main folder from Part1 of his two Part downloads? I suppose I need to get a screenshot... It's really weird since the two mods do not interact with each other at all, as far as I can see. Stary's mod adds a GermanyCE.INI, GermanyCE_DATA.INI, Aggie's files add a GermanyCE_Targets.ini and GermanyCE_Types.ini They are not overwriting each other. And BTW it's true, I'm seeing that in Aggies ZIP file. no tree TGAs are included at all. I'll get a screen this evening...
  7. I only play stock aircraft, and the only mods to my FE2 and SF2E are terrains. So in theory, my options are limited. Yet, I simple have no desire for the SF2I or SF2V setting. I did buy FE2 even though I have FEG... but there must be a better way to help TK out? I'd be more than happy to hand out a few SF2E copies as gift to my friends, but that's there the lack of a boxed release really sucks - selling self-burned digital downloads on disk just doesn't make too much of a nice present.
  8. I found that by reading the briefing map, I can get some details (checking other airbases for their assigned task, and suddenly there's a CAP where I'm on CAS. I guess I'll enable friendly AC in the map labels again.
  9. That's the map where I edited the enemy/friendly icons out ;) Maybe, seeing that I usually only open the map briefly, I should add them back in to serve as "AWACS-Picture" since the TAC doesn't give proper picture over radio. Also seems no matter how often I call for Assistance, I get none. I'm not even sure my Harriers do have air cover most of the time.
  10. Thanks Dave. Not sure what I set the campaign at, the briefing screen shows 9% supply for my squadron, not quite a lot. Good trick with the air cover, though I admit I'm feeling incredible blind in the Stock Gr.3. No Radar, no visual RWR, and the TAC often gives confusing threat vectors...
  11. I found this thread looking for that particular answer. So far, I finally managed to survive a Harrier campaign for more than three days, but I lost 5 wingmen already (god, they can be stupid sometimes). Can I expect new pilots and enough aircraft, or will I run out eventually?
  12. I hope TK will include an official Pfalz model in the Expansion Pack for FE2, whenever that comes out. The Pfalz is the only AC I miss not being able to download from Capun's website.
  13. Hi all Some of you might have seen Jan Tumas excellent terrain mod for First Eagles. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=10549 Besides doing seasonal tilesets, the biggest improvement he made is a massive tense amount of tree sprites and a rework of the default "farm" objects to show a lot more detail. Now, for SF2 Europe, I don't really need a large seasonal tile package, and my HD space is limited. But is there a simple way to at least get more trees so that forrests do look like forrests? later Helmut
  14. FE2?

Slightly better GFX if using DX10 Slightly better flight model (according to Peter who should know best) Ability to save missions for replaying later (not "video replay", actually restarting the mission). Cons: Old mods need some love to port over.
  15. FE2 & Win 7

The modding structure in FE2 is different, no need to overwrite files? Just create a terrainS (S is important) folder in your mod directory and drop them inside.
  16. Just looking around to see if anyone found issues with FE2 and the new patch - only mod I'll be using is Jan's terrain.
  17. FE2 March Update - Trouble free?

Thanks. I never use Third Party Aircraft and Weapons, so I ought to be fine then... and the display for armed weapons is disabled by my flight menu edit anyway. Appreciate the answer Helmut
  18. Back Up, Back Up, BACK UP!

I do it monhtly on the entire drive, Win7 System Image Backup is your friend.
  19. Hi all. I haven't flown a French Campaign ever before in FE Gold or FE2, so that's what I decided to try today. Much to my surprise, the starting aircraft for the Battle of Cambrai 1917 campaign is the Spad 7 with 180HP and a single MG! Even on Thirdwire's own website it is listed as AI only, but obviously it has a cockpit "linked" and can be flown, only thing annoying is a small GFX error when firing the MG that shows a second "ghost MG" working on the left hand. But hey, this is really cool.
  20. FE2 - Spad 7 is flyable!

This is the case. But it looks decent enough.
  21. FE2 - Spad 7 is flyable!

Well, it seems in FE2 TK has done the work.
  22. FE2 - Spad 7 is flyable!

Well, then it means it's a wrong entry in the campaign data file and should be a SPADXIII. But the amazing thing is that it actually fits really well and does look like a reasonable "mod" not like a glaring error.
  23. FE2 - Spad 7 is flyable!

Can't post a screenshot quickly, but it seems a tad like a "hack" by TK. The briefing screen, load screen are from the XIII. The cockpit is ALSO from the XIII. There's some geometry overlap in cockpit view where the model of the cockpit meets the outside model of the aircraft. So basically it should perform like a VII, looks externally like a VII, has only one gun (125 rounds) like a VII, but you are flying it from a XIII cockpit with some seams visible. Still decent enough IMHO.
  24. Brilliant idea, Quack. Too much effort for me currently (I like simple straight stock), but you just added a feature that the game by itself doesn't offer - seeing known Aces in flight.
  25. Thanks for all the help, I'll give it a go when I find time in the weekend. The difference between FE2 terrain and SF2 terrain now is really striking, shows what would be possible with the engine...
