That "other WW1 flight sim"
Von Paulus replied to Davy TASB's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Did you see any improvements in OFF's performance with the SSD drive? I suppose you've tried previously with a SATA HD. If it's not asking too much could you tell the brand of your SSD drive? Thanks -
And I was planning to visit the forts in the game. Oh well, I suppose we can't have all.

Step 4 and Step 5 are the steps which take more time. Step 4 will check sector by sector all the sectors that hold data, while step 5 will check the sectors non-used. In the end it will give you a report. Typical report: Look at the number in bad sectors. If it says 0, then you don't have any bad sector. Probably it also reports that errors were found and were corrected. The box or at least the CD must mention if it is a 32 or 64 bit. I bet it's a 32 bits. If it is no need to install XP Pro you won't have any benefit. Lets concentrate on your RAM, the value 2.5GB, that's the odd thing. It would be nice if you could attach a dxdiag.txt file in here. To create a DxDiag : http://wiki.aeriagames.com/shaiya/index.php?title=Support_-_Common_Diagnose/Repair Part of my daily work (in 20 years) is to troubleshoot. This is a area that I'm familiar. That's all. So don't worry, I'm just glad to be helpful Duce.

Nope. You can also download CPUz ( http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php ) and install in Windows. When you run it you'll see something like this: http://esaof.edu.pt/blog/pcurgencias/files/2009/02/cpuz-11.png I need that you tell me what the program report in the Memory tab the Type, Size and Channels#: http://img.tomshardware.com/us/2006/07/28/shuttle_xpc_sn27p2/shuttle-am2-cpuz4.gif I need to know in SPD tab what the program report in each slot (there are 4) what are the Module size, Max Bandwith and Manufacturer: http://img.tomshardware.com/us/2006/07/28/shuttle_xpc_sn27p2/shuttle-am2-cpuz5.gif I'm leaving the computer now but I'll come back later

So it's 4x1MB? The same brand? Same speed? Are all Dual side or Single side? You shouldn't have 2,5GB reported in your Windows. You should have 3GB. That might means that your PC is not working well with the upgraded RAM. Something is wrong. If you want to make a RAM test use memtest86. Download the ISO and create a CD with this image. Then boot your PC with this CD.

Still, did you or not did a memory upgrade?
-
It's not FF it's a Thrustmaster t.160000m. Yes works fine, nice response. Have you gone to the Thrustmaster drivers page and see if there is a driver for win7. For mine was a beta driver.

After installing Xubuntu, did you tried to install XP again? Did you made a Format low level or at least Zero the HD?

Home or Pro if it's 32 bits will only recognize only 3GB, not 2,5 and not 4GB. There is no difference between those versions at that level. If you had XP PRO (64bits) that would be different. It could recognized above the 3GB. And yes you've a problem with your RAM. 2,5GB??? You had initially 2GB (1x1) and then upgraded to more 2GB (1x1)? Or you've installed new memory 4GB (2x2)? So a XPS 710?! Good choice, but might not be the easiest to install a XP. It seems to be Nvidia, I'm not sure if you'll need an extra diskette with the drivers for your SATA controllers. If I could advise here, best to use the CD/DVD recovery that come with the computer and installed the Home edition. Unless you've a XP Pro 64 bits it won't reconignized above 3GB. And, trust me, probably you won't need more than 3GB in a XP. Now if you want to make an upgrade than think in Win7 (64bits), and probably it will be easier to install; only some applications and old hardware won't work with it.Before take the leap be sure that anything you connect to your computer has support do Win7 (64bits). But first you've to see if there is no problem with your RAM, or any incompatibility between the new RAM and the old RAM or even between new RAM and your motherboard. Please answer to the questions I've already asked. Did you upgraded your RAM? How? EDIT: What kind of pop-ups? Or kind of messages?

What joystick? Do you know if it has any support for Win7? Besides have you activated FF in Workshop options?
-
You should have try to do a clean install and not a overwrite. There was no need to change the HD.

You're installing Windows so it's not Windows yet. If it's rebooting at that installation/setup phase normally it means 3 things. You've a special/non-standard hardisk controller that needs to be installed at the beginning of the setup (when setup asks you to press F6 to install a controller) or you've a problem in your RAM. At that stage of the setup he's not even copying files to the HD, only to the RAM, so if there is some defect in your RAM it will cause a error or a reboot. So what I find odd in your case it's that message of asking you to CHKDSk your HD. I suppose you didn't come to the 3 step in supersite's guide. The reboot must have happened in the second step. Right? Another reason for not getting to the step 3 is a problem with Windows XP media, or a problem with your optical device. Sometimes Windows XP doesn't like to be installed from a SATA optical drive it depends on your chipset. Is any of your Disks or Optical devices have SATA interface or PATA? http://blog.taragana...es-295x3001.jpg Upper figure is PATA the bottom SATA. Tell me why are you formating? This your PC had any strange behavior lately? Do you know what is your Motherboard chipset? If not give the model of your computer, I'll try to find (it's a Dell right?). There exist two ways for check your system disk. Firstly you can do it inside My computer http://www.pctechgui...aint_Chkdsk.htm Remember you'll be notified that the check cannot be performed immediately, and offered the opportunity to schedule this to occur the next time your system is booted. Answer yes. The other way is booting with a Windows Boot CD and go to the recovery console. http://forums.whatth...ole_t95574.html Only problem is that it seems you aren't able to come to the Recovery Console option in your windows setup boot. Your PC reboots before. There are workarounds but are more technical ( http://www.bleepingc...utorial117.html )so go with the first it's easier.

That "other WW1 flight sim"

No it wasn't. It was Bruno Ganz, one of the best actors in the world. This is "Der Untergang". http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0363163/ Although there is a movia called "The Bunker" with Anthony Hopkins impersonating Hitler. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082114/ -
I'm a bit confused here, Duce. At what point did the error occurred? You weren't in Windows right? /F is a switch of the chkdsk command syntax. When you write in a DOS prompt "chkdsk c: /f" it means it will check hardisk c and correct the errors if found. Personally when I'm in doubt about the reliabilty of a hardisk I choose /r switch instead, which besides doing what the /f switch does it will check for bad sectors and mark them. Haven't you 2 physical HD's? Or you have 1 HD with 2 partitions?

That "other WW1 flight sim"
Von Paulus replied to Davy TASB's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Well I come from ROF to OFF. In my case runs better in XP than in Win7 (some serious stuttering) while OFF runs better in Win7. Maybe I'd needed to tweaked my machine for ROF, but I keep asking myself why should loose time on it, if I only play it once in a while. So I played it on XP. I bought Wings of Prey (beta), and boy that's really astonishing, in terms of smoothness and visual quality. That's smoothest thing I have ever played in my rig. But none give me the feel that OFF offers me. So... maybe I'm too much addicted to OFF to really appreciate any other simulator... or in fact any other game. I suppose there are some people here who understands my feeling. EDIT: The same. -

They are thinking to drop the DRM in the near future. -
That is the nature of the classics. It will survive time and there will always be someone who'll try to add something. Usually the original concept it's better. Thanks for sharing I didn't have the faintest idea that someone hast tried to turn this into dance music.

It's a 1942 or 1945 record. Maybe it's not vinyl. Here is a review: http://www.jstor.org/pss/935515 If you want another a copy: http://209.85.229.132/search?q=cache:0sYtA63Ovu0J:www.schallplattenwelt.de/78-N.htm+d.b.6180+adagio+vynil&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=pt&client=firefox-a

TrackIR versions and memory questions
Von Paulus replied to Tuba2's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
AFAIK TrackIR5 is not much better. Only better more FOV, resolution and a better design. It will make a huge difference? I think not. Concerning the memory upgrade, if you're not contemplating in buying soon a new rig, I'd say, yes make a 1GB upgrade in your RAM (XP 32bits will only address up into 3GB). But it won't be a night and day difference. -

Great! There are at least 3 versions of Adagio for strings. That's the version conducted by Toscanini (in 1938?). It was initially composed for a string quartet by Samuel Barber. I'm not sure if it was Toscanini who had the idea to take it to a full string orchestra. Personally I prefer the choral transcription, called "Agnus Dei", it chills up my spine every time I listen. So yes, that's a really historical LP and probably a historical recording. Congratulations Stiffy.
