crl848 replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
My condolences, and thanks for giving pleasure to so many people you never met. -
Good luck mate. got two actual and one on the way myself. Your life will be different from now on, but in a good way.
-
Good luck with that.

Fair enough on the fast show. Back to M&W, I love their sketches on alternative medicine and religion. fantastic.
-
It's a fact that they have some good sketches, though not all come off. They do radio as well, and their current series is on Radio 4 at the moment. If you like the Fast Show, have you tried Enfield & Whitehouse's reprise, Harry & Paul? Scaffolders http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCaDbpeUb9k I saw you coming (I live round there so this is close to home ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmyGJC5h4DM&NR=1 Notting Hill grocers (there are loads of these too) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trB5CSDmf1E&NR=1

Ahit vs. Ayit

On past performance, TK will say that he will never change the spelling. Then you'll find it updated in a patch later -
Fantastic. I saw the Vulcan fly a display last weekend, and it was a struggle not to shed a tear. I've been to hundreds of airshows, but this was something special.

Firing AMRAAM Missiles
crl848 replied to dutchless's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
This should do it: 1. Lock on to a target using the radar in search mode (default: HOME to select target, INSERT to lock). 2. Fire missile if in parameters. -
I just checked out the Williams thing on youtube. I know I shouldn't be surprised, but there are some unbelievable racist comments there.

I wonder what prompted Gordon to apologise for this of all the 1000s of petitions sent to Downing Street. Still, richly deserved in my view.

Duxford Flying Legends Airshow 2009
crl848 replied to Tonyo - legion's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I didn't go to the show, but I was driving down the A505 past Duxford on the Thursday afternoon before, and saw an excellent practice show by the 3-mustang display team. -
Im Having a little bit of trouble deciding what to do career wise, HELP!

I suppose if you've thought it through properly, including the strong likelihood of service at the sharp end, then you should follow your dream. You could always join the aussie forces later if you don't succeed with the marines. -
OT - Introducing Joe Kittinger

Easy for me to say, but his later record as a vietnam POW leaves a bit to be desired. Have you seen those guys (one French, one British) trying to beat his record? -
I just read a good book about the classified Constant Peg program flying migs against red flag participants from Tonopah: http://www.amazon.com/Red-Eagles-Americas-...6857&sr=8-1 There are many in-flight descriptions of the MIG-21 and MIG-23, and what stands out is how much the pilots liked the -21 and hated the -23. The latter must be over-modelled in our sims as it was not much of an opponent in real life according to the American pilots who flew it regularly against US aircraft. Also it was *very* dangerous. The -21, on the other hand, is described as being excellent WVR.

Has anyone done a Buccaneer for tw sims?
crl848 replied to Hokum's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
sorry for this late post! Answer is d.: he (or probably the navigator) is giving the range codeword. Having popped up earlier and marked the target on the radar, he is giving the code word always used by RAF maritime attack buccaneer crews to signal which target to attack, i.e. they always called "bananas" when the target coincided with a particular range bar on the radar screen, thus allowing the rest of the flight to identify the target range without long radio calls. Apparently "bananas" was suggested by a US Navy aviator flying with 12 squadron. -
There was a good programme on BBC4 last night featuring James May interviewing some moon walkers and doing a flight in a U2. Available for a week on iplayer: Main programme: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00lf...ay_on_the_Moon/ Supplement on the U2 flight preparation etc.: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00lc..._Edge_of_Space/

I did a cadet camp at the CTC at Lympstone when I was at school - did the assault course, tarzan course, endurance course, night exercise, 7 mile run in step etc. We were issued with SLRs instead of the rubbish cadet SA80s which was fun, shot them on the range. Trained for weeks before and still got knackered. I remember the colour sgt. (Colours Walley) running up and down our lines shouting at us, while we plodded in: he must have run 3x what we did and didn't break a sweat. Some of us did do a POC and join up for real, though not myself.

Quiz: anyone know why the leader says "bananas"? Is it: a. He is hungry and asking the navigator to pass his lunch. b. He is referring to the jet's nickname for the benefit of the film producers. c. He dropped something on the floor but didn't want to swear on TV (OR: he did swear, and the producers dubbed something less offensive over it). d. He is giving the range indicator codeword for the attack. Answers on a postcard to the MOD. -
Yeah, I'm surprised they let him with that long hair - difficult to put the space suit on.

Strike Fighters 2 Europe
crl848 replied to Gr.Viper's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
All the old games are vista-compatible anyway, are they not? I liked SF2 for the new cockpits, but frankly I've found SFV and SFE less essential because there's not much new for the money. Yeah, I know, support TK etc etc. I have done so. But, it occured to me that a "normal" game developer wouldn't deliver almost exactly the same game (+ better cockpits, - some planes), same old terrain etc. and expect people to buy it as if it was a new game. Having played SFE, I feel like loading up NF4 which is a better experience. Not a huge issue, but I am now of the opinion that each addon should have had a new plane. Just my views. -
Strike Fighters 2 Europe
crl848 replied to Gr.Viper's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Having bought all the SF2 releases, I have to agree with you. I know all the arguments as to why TK can't/won't add new planes, and in fact has deleted some. But I can't think that this is a good way to sell the product. Surely one new a/c per release would be better than endless models of the F-4 etc.? -
Falkland 1982 All-Inclusive MOD

Possibly a stupid quesiton, but is it possible to run this mod in Vista? I get a distinct lack of textures when I try. -
