  1. WW1 Recreation

Years ago when I lived in Idaho a small GA airport had 3 WW1 replica aircraft that looked about the same size as the ones flying in the reenactment. I can't remember how many times when I was out that way, I would stop and look them over again. That's the kind of tissue paper and balsa wood models I liked to build when I was a kid. I never did get to see them fly and one day the hanger they were in burnt down and the planes were a total loss. What a shame. I bet building one of those replicas could be a lot of fun. Too bad I never got a pilots license in all my years in the Air Force, altho wouldn't be flying now anyway. Too old to pass the physical.
  2. OFF or RoF? Help the n00b!

If vyrago is running a 3800 am2 socket and not the ancient 939 socket then he can upgrade the cpu without changing the motherboard. I agree a new processor would improve playing OFF immensely. I started OFF Phase 1 back in 2005 with an AMD X2 3800 939 socket. I had to keep the sliders at 2 becuz of artifacts and stuttering. I upgraded to an FX-60 and I was in heaven until the *&$#&^%# machine cratered. Go for OFF. I have all 3 versions. The only other sim I now fly is IL2 1946.
  3. I decided to install Phase 1 on my older computer. It had Phase 2 on it which I removed per instructions. I'm not a newby to that. Removed CFS3 , also, and cleaned up the registry and defragged the hard drive. Reinstalled CFS3 and updated to 3.1 and installed Phase 1. Installation went fine until I clicked on the short to initialize. I got "runtime error 13 type mismatch." Started all over again from scratch with the same result. Checked the Regional Settings and they were ok. I had this problem once before and fixed it, only can't remember how. I'm having a major senior moment, so I would appreciate any and all guidance.
  4. Runtime error

I misspoke. The neighbors computer had SP2 and my problem child was SP3 from the gitgo.
  5. Runtime error

Nope, uncleal, the neighbor has XP SP3 from the gitgo. I know cuz I have the OEM disk that his installation came from. (Had to check the disk) So I'm toying with the idea of a Windows repair using the disk. Not the Repair Console, either, but the one M$ tried to hide for whatever reason.
  6. Runtime error

You're right. It's been a while since P1 was released, but I don't think that's my problem. The reason is this. The computer I loaned my neighbor has P1 on it and it's XP SP3 like this one. I had upgraded the OFF on it to P2 but it wouldn't run very good, cuz it was an older machine. I uninstalled P2 and reinstalled P1 and that runs fine. Go figure. I've tried compatibility mode and it doesn't help. I know I've seen that error but cannot remember how I fixed it. Old age is the pits and CRS doesn't help. I get a message on the installation UI that OFF was installed once and get the choice of cancelling or reinstall. I've ran 4 different registry cleaners and run Search to find anything I overlooked. Nada! I sure don't want to reinstall Windows to see what happens, but I'm a stubborn old Irishman and refuse to throw in the towel.
  7. Runtime error

I thought, " I've got 3 'puters in the house and thought it'd be nice to have a different phase on each one" explained my intention. I have P1w/Supa, and all the missions written for it, P2w/last hotfix plus skins and videos, everything downloaded when they came out. And have been installing and using them on the various computers I've had. Never had any trouble until now. I've deleted the two major folders in Programs, the folder in My Documents and the hidden one in Application Data under Microsoft. I've also done a clean install of CFS3 and updated to 3.1 and flew once. I used a registry cleaner each time and defragged also. This was always sufficient in the past. I'm running XP SP3 on all my machines. Any ideas?
  8. Runtime error

Sitting Duck, I'm in US. Nearly as far west of you as I can get and still be in the continental US, eastern Washington state up near the Canadian border. I've got 3 'puters in the house and thought it'd be nice to have a different phase on each one, so I took Phase 2 off this one and can't get P1 to operate once installed. P2 ran with no problem. If XP was corrupted, then I think I'd got the same error when P2 was on this machine.
  9. Runtime error

Yup, sure did. both times I installed CFS3 & OFF. Also, I forgot to mention I'm running XP 32bit. I put P1 on one of my older computers that I loaned to my neighbor, & I think that install is the one I'm remembering as giving the same Runtime error. AAAArrrrrggh!!!
  10. Format C:\

I haven't seen this specifically mentioned so I thought I'd mention it. I have two GTX 275 video cards in my SLI machine. Each card needed two separate power cables hooked up for a total of four before the cards would work.
  11. Campaign/Warping

I warp many times when I don't want to spend too much time sitting at my computer. When you warp, you're flown from way point to way point as shown on the map. If I miss one, I get warped back to it. I've learned to pay attention to the map way points. Plus there's time you may have to spend in the target area. If I don't complete the way points and goals I seem to have to fly the mission again.
  12. I just finished a leisurely observation mission to the front and back in a Strutter, and I spent a great deal more time doing it than was necessary. And to borrow a phrase from our Aussie friends, I was utterly "gob smacked" by the grandeur of the vistas. The rolling hills and forests and farmlands with the clouds and sky were so beautifully rendered that I felt I was gazing at a masterpiece of art. And I was. I had to take a multitude of screen shots. OFF has come a long way since it's beginning and I'm glad I journeyed with it. I'm humbled by what the team has accomplished over the years. It's become a masterpiece of creation. Congradulations, gents. You've done yourselfs proud.
  13. Magnificent vistas

Actually, I had a question in mind, but never got to it. Thanx for reminding me. It's about the trees surrounding an airfield. When I'm taking off or landing, those nearby conifers show as vertical planes and the conifers show as large petals. This is the same in Phase 2 and Phase 3. Is this a setting I'm missing? I have aircraft, terrain, and scenery sliders set to 4 in the OFF config file. Or is this inherent in the sim and I have to live with it? I'm running a AMD quad processor with two 275GTX video cards in SLI and could bump something up if necessary.
  14. Out of curiosity, how many download tries did it take you to successfully download HitR? I gave it a shot yesterday evening just before bedtime. Went and checked about 45 minutes later and the UI said the download was complete, but I only got a little over 200MBs. And 7Zip couldn't unpack it. And is the download a Zip or RAR file? Anybody use a download manager? When I started the download the website said I had 3 more downloads. Is that 3 more tries to get it right or 3 more downloads to get the complete file?
  15. HitR download

Well, the HitR installation went fine. I did a fresh install of BH&H on D drive and routed HitR there flying a QC in free flight with a new pilot between each addon. Thanx again, everyone, for your input.
  16. That "other WW1 flight sim"

Aha, that's the movie I was remembering. My bad. Left Germany 40 years ago after a 3 year tour and so wasn't listening or watching either much. I was too busy reading the subtitles.
  17. HitR download

Gaw, I had no problem unpacking the 2nd HitR download with 7Zip. Haven't installed it yet. I'm gonna do a fresh install of BH&H w/Supa & 1.32G mini. Then I'll install HitR & 1.46 mini. I downloaded everything downstairs to a machine that's hard wired to the modem/router. But the installation is going on the better machine upstairs that's on a wireless connection. It's the newest machine with a quad core, SLI & two 275GTX video cards. I've run BH&H on it with the sliders on 5 without a burp except an artifact while panning from the VC. I'll post how it all turns out. I've see your moniker on another forum somewhere. Could've it been the old OFF forum on SOH?
  18. That "other WW1 flight sim"

That video was great. Wasn't that Anthony Hopkins? I couldn't tell for sure becuz of the mustache. Since ROF is based on IL2's engine, if you haven't TrackIR, you pan with your mouse and not with the hat switch. That ties up both your hands. And can you call for help from your AI IL2 based wingmen like in OFF? Altho a plus for me is that IL2 1946 runs with higher settings and smoother on my older computer than OFF or CFS3 does. The screenies I've seen show great detail. As do the videos. The computer requirements for ROF are high end, too. If they drop the DRM and allow you to campaign offline, I would probably buy it.
  19. That "other WW1 flight sim"

Think maybe they've been reading the forum uproar about their DRM and got their calculators out and figured how much business they're losing? That's why I didn't buy.
  20. HitR download

Got 'er downloaded the second time. Thanx again, every body. Back to football now.
  21. HitR download

Thanks, all. Think I'll give it another try this afternoon while watching the Roseball in Pasadena. Hellshade, of that I'm well aware. I still have Phase 1 and Phase 2 on a couple of my computers. I've got 'em backed up on disk and an external hard drive. Even the original third party missions for Phase 1.
  22. Runtime error

I gave an older 'puter to a friend to use that had phase 1 on it. He saw phase 2 and wanted to try it. It wouldn't run stable. So I decided to put phase 1 back on it. After the installation and initializing and firing OFF p1 up, I get "OFF Manager runtime error 13 type mismatch." Googled it but I'm over my head, I think. What should I do to correct this?
  23. Runtime error

I've had the CRS syndrome for years now. Been writing notes to myself for a couple of decades. I'm still dinging around with the runtime error. Tried a registry repair. Nada. Think I'll try a Windows repair with my disk tomorrow. Cross your fingers for me. I'm getting tired of futzing around with this problem. Supposed to be snow tomorrow, so maybe I'll be stuck inside and get something done. Thanx for trying.
  24. Runtime error

It's an up to date XP machine with only a 2.2GHz processor after I had to rebuild it a while back when it went belly up. Phase 1 was on it and running good until I took it off to replace it with Phase 2. Big mistake! I've got Phase 2 and BH&H, but I'd have to put 3 or 4 hundred bucks into the 'puter to run them. I've already spent about 3 days dinging with this problem while my new quad build sits unfinished behind me. As Charlie Brown used to say, "AAAARRRggh!!" I was hoping that someone from the old days at SOH was around that knew the fix. I remember you from them old days.
