That "other WW1 flight sim"
appraiserfl replied to Davy TASB's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
So i have been toying with ROF for the last hour or so and while it is no substitute for the depth of OFF, it still is fun and for twenty bucks it is worth the download. Yea the DRM is annoying, and yes there is a huge limitation of planes, etc, but still if you are like me and cannot get enough of the WWI experience than its worth adding to you collection. Also, I am a huge graphics whore and the detail of the planes is fantastic and I am loving my eyefinity setup with this game! With that said, I will revert back to my OFF loving cause this aint the place for ROF -
How are people able to play with the allies?
appraiserfl posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I dunno why but I have always preferred to fly for the germans in WWI simulators since red baron and after owning this game for nearly two months I decided to give the allies a try. WOW either I am just used to flying the german tanks that are armed to the gills or I just can't fly the nimble under armed kites of the allies! Less than two hundred rounds to work with, LOL, that is it, were they serious? I think if I were in the actual war I would just land on the german side and enlist on their side if this is all that I had to work with lol. With the germans I could survive a month and rack up a good thirty-forty kills before inevidability caught up with me but with the allies I am barely able to scrape up one kill a mission and if I survive a mission then that is a small miracle in itself. Brutal flying as the allies, freaking BRUTAL! Now I gotta make another "Big Mac Le Fart Jr." cause Le Fart senior just bought the farm. Man I love this game! -

That "other WW1 flight sim"
appraiserfl replied to Davy TASB's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Tempting, I love OFF and I know that there is alllooot of complaints regarding ROF, but I cannot get enough of WWI stuff so it looks like Im gonna have to buy as its only a twenty and lord knows I have spent way more for way less lol. Now the only question for me is what OS to put it on. Id like to do windows 7 but I have had many issues with that versus my vista 64 -
Hey Morris are you playing with your eyefinity setup yet?
-
Yeap thats my rig, I got three dell 20.1" 1600x1200 monitors at 4800x1200. I am running a 5970 and have a 5870 sitting in the closet. OFF does not take advantage of dual gpus so a 5970 is useless versus using a 5870 and you can overclock a 5850 to almost match the performance of a 5870. So I would recommend a 5870 and if it is out of your budget a 5850 is an excellent backup option! Here is my setup in a bigger older post http://forum.combatace.com/topic/50500-anybody-else-using-an-eyefinity-setup/
-
Go with the 5850, it gives you the option of triple screen gaming and the performance kicks butt! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v725/l88bastard/120520098598.jpg

My take on Vista versus WIndows 7 for OFF
appraiserfl posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
About a week ago I had asked for peoples opinion on how vista stacked up against windows 7 for gaming....gaming with OFF in particular. If memory serves me correct, I had only received one reply from another member that has run both operating systems with OFF and that member said that he picked up another 5-10fps. I am running vista ultimate 64, and I bought another hard drive to run Windows7 so I could have both OS in a duel boot setup. I AM GLAD THAT I BOUGHT THE SECOND HARD DRIVE because I was originally considering just completely blowing off vista and using Windows7 exclusively on my primary hard drive. But I figured that If I was spending close to $300 for an os that I may as well spend another $70 and get an additinal thousand gig hard drive just in case Windows7 did not work out perfectly. I AM GLAD I CHOSE THIS ROUTE! For the newer games like Crysis, Batman Arkum Asylum, Dirt2, etc. Windows 7 is the better choice as it is using both gpus of my 5970 for considerable fps gains over vista. However, with my two flight sims of choice (OFF & IL2) I am getting stuttering gameplay with Windows7. For example, with vista and settings at 5,5,3,4,4,3 (shadows & rain off) at 4800x1200 resolution I get 30-35 fps at the airfield and 40-60fps in the air on a nice weather day. With OFF running at the same settings on Windows7 I am getting 35-40fps at the airfield and 40-80fps in the air, but the gameplay is jittery. I believe this jitteryness is caused by microstutter, because MSI afterburner shows both gpus of my 5970 to be working with windows7 and OFF/IL2, however, both GPUs are only working at 40-50%! In contrast, when I play OFF on vista, MSI afterburner only shows one gpu as working and it is working at 90-99%. So it basically looks like Windows7 is allowing crossfire to work, but it is not taxing both GPUs to their full potential and I am getting what appears to be microstutter as a byproduct :( I could try my 5870 to see if the problem was indeed a duel gpu issue, but I am too lazy to take my system apart for that test, especially since the G940 does not work perfectly with Windows7. THE G940 WITH VISTA VERSUS WINDOWS7 I believe this deserves its on section and possibly its own thread as I see complainers about the G940s performance and Force feedback effects. I have updated both Vista and Windows7 with the latest and greatest G940 drivers and it performs much, much, better with vista versus windows7. The force feedback effects are much weaker and less consistent with WIndows7. I get major problems with the G940 and OFF with Windows7 because the flight stick gets crazy sometimes and pins itself in sharp directions at random which throws me into stalls. Also, the throttle acts crazy with Windows 7, sometimes when I push to max throttle it cuts to 50% even though it should be max and the stick is located at the max position! I already had a few near fatal stalls during intense dogfights because I was supposed to be at max throttle, but it was only at 50%! The difference with the G940s performance with IL2 is even more pronounced than OFF because IL2 has a much better FF implementation. With IL2 the center force feedback deadzone is considerably more pronounced and I now see what people are complaining about. The center deadzone in Vista is very tiny and precise, but it is like a gaping chasm with Windows7. Simply put, the G940 is unplayable for me with windows7 because it is Superb with Vista and I will not accept any less performance that what I know it is capable of. Conclusion Vista with its longer shelf life and service packs is more refined and playable for older games. With the latest and greatest games Windows 7 is the way to go, especially if you are running duel gpus. The G940 needs better drivers for Windows7, I will continue to search, maybe is missed a beta driver or somehting. As it is right now, I will be OFFing with Vista and gaming with Windows 7 for everything else. -

Make sure you are running an active adapter and not a passive adapter. I am running the dell adapter which can be found here: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Cables/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=330-5521 You can find out more about adapters in this forum here: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=16942 And an active discussion of the 9.12s here: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=17767 If you have an active adapter then you may need to do this trick. Try disabling all screens except for one and then go to CCC, Destops & displays, and then click on the black triangle in the upper right corner of the virtual screen for the single enabled screen, select display group, select create group, and then select 3x1 and then it should reset. If it resets make sure that the monitor is turned on for the third monitor that you are not getting a picture, because my third dell has a habbit of going into sleep mode and the window to tell it to accept the changes is dispalyed on that monitor and you would never see it unless you make sure the monitor is powered on after you select the group change.

My take on Vista versus WIndows 7 for OFF
appraiserfl replied to appraiserfl's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Ok, slooooow down there, soooooooooooo down and relax. I am not telling people to run out and buy vista over windows 7 I am just reporting what I see. Obviously the drivers are what is causing the problems with the ati graphics and g940, that is what I mean by the longer shelf life of vista, because the developers have had more time to work with vista. YES Vista is a POS, I did a fresh install of my vista 64 a month ago and updated it to service pack 2 and it already is corrupted and will not let me delete and move files without doing a ctl+alt+del and then making the program manager cancel the request. So don't even get me started there. Basically this thread is here to tell people that it might not be there new ati 5870 & 5890s or their new G940s that suck, it could be the weak ass driver support if their OS is Windows7. -
My take on Vista versus WIndows 7 for OFF

I have an ht claro and the sound is fine in every other game. I wouldnt use a sb card if you payed me. -
What Operating System are you running. I am running 9.12s with vista and 9.12 hotfix with Windows7 and I do not have any missing texture issues. But Vista works much better with my sapphire 5970 than windows 7 does.

Does OFF run better in VISTA or Windows7?
appraiserfl posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Basically, my vista OS is borked and I am sick of vista borking me so I ordered Windows 7 and another terra harddrive to put it on. I am thinking I will keep all my gaming for windows 7 and keep the vista around for other work applications that I am too lazy to reload on the 7 os. So is there any users out there that have tried off on vista and windows 7 and which one performs better? -

Impressions of Logitech G940 Force Effects
appraiserfl replied to GregSM's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I love my G940 it is freaking awesome, so much better than my old CH fighterstick setup. With that said, are you basing your review solely off of Over Flanders Fields? Because I can tell you the FFF implementation with OFF is pretty weak, however, it absolutely amazing with IL2-1946! Even though it is lacking with OFF, it still brings me in for greater immersion due to the excellent gun shaking effects and the stall warning effects. But is the G940 realistic with OFF? Not really, but that is not the G940s fault it is OFFs ancient CFS3 base that is the culprit. Anyway, what are you looking for? With how indepth your descriptions are I would say it looks like you were expecting a military grade application, which are available is you wanna spend fifty thousand dollars versus the $300 for this excellent HOTAS setup. -
With my ati 5970 (and my 5870) bad weather lops at least 20fps off my total performance! I have all of my sliders set perfect just the way I like em where I can get 45-60fps and then when I get a mission with bad weather I am down into the teens & 20s The weird thing is when I used to play with my Nvidia 8800 ultras I never received any frame hits from bad weather! Is there any way to disable bad weather? I looked in workshop but I can only set how the weather is presented, ie ai controlled or historical. Or is there any way around this? The other weird thing is, I increased my total FPS by about 10fps when I enabled 2xAA! Lol, what the heck is that all about, I never heard about performance increases from increasing AA, but it is a reality with OFF and my ati cards!
-
congrats on the trackIR, you will find that you never knew how you managed without it. The sun was glaring bad the other day and I was too lazy to close the blinds so my trackir wouldnt work proper and i decided to give it a go without it and i felt like somebody chopped off my arms and legs without it. TrackIR is the best thing since sliced bread and OFF of course

Bad weather just kills my FPS
appraiserfl replied to appraiserfl's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I lived with a Compaq presario p4 2.4ghz for 6 years with a radeon 9700pro, before I made the bold step to build my own computer. I did not know what the hell I was doing but I somehow managed and have built several computers in the last two years. Once you get started on your own custom setup you can never go back, so may I suggest Uncleal, that you back off your files and then ebay that puter that your not completely satisfied with and build your own! You wont regret it, well unless you try and install new ati drivers over existing drivers, but other than that you will be very happy, when you dont have to worry about factory nit nacks. -

Ahh but I have vista 64 ultimate. I tried to dload the early version of cat 9.12 and went thru the most hellacious 24 hours of trying to get my computer to work again. Man oh man, ati drivers are brutal if you dont know how to install them properly over a previous driver version.
