I too have found that running terrain over 3 causes flickering as you describe, all my other settings are on 5. I had not heard of nhancer before and will check it out as although terrain over 3 causes flickering it does not cause drop in fps.

The scenery looks fantastic, I am hoping that it will not slow fps down too much.

I am looking into building a free track and was wondering if any uk users had any advice on sourcing components. I have been into local maplins but they did not have the leds and resistors I wanted, had a look on conrads who do have what I want but the postage seems a bit high, wondering if there are any cheaper suppliers. I've ordered my bits for free track, so hopefully will get it built for christmas, just my web cam to get now, the ms vx1000 I think it will be.

My computer AM2 5000+ (2.6 ghz) EVGA 8500GT 256MB 128bit DDR2 DVI VGA TVO PCI-E 2gb 800 DDR2 Ram Monitor 1680 x 1050 I am a new OFF user and have patched the super and the mini, I limited the framerate to 32 as recomended in the forum but am finding that I cannot run satisfactorily with sliders set to over two and clouds at 1. I am getting fps of 25+ with this which is ok but over this I am into the teens. Should I upgrade the cpu ram and graphics card or would one of these have more effect than the others as I would love to crank up the visuals somewhat. Any suggestions gratefully received Thanks in advance

Now running 53455, no hit on the fps, however I am not able to raise terrain above 3 without graphic problems. If I do, the land in the distance breaks up and flows about for want of a better description but I am more than happy with the setup now.

Put in a gts250 1gb card which has improved graphics considerably. Been playing around with various settings, sliders are currently 43433 with ground object density high, shadows off and all recomended offs in the config file. Frame rate restricted to 30 and am getting pretty well near to that nearly all the time so quite happy. Haven't embarked on a campaign yet will probably wait till I get my free track made and running. I find the hat switch clumsy to use and spend a lot of flight time wondering where the intended victim is, don't use the targeting aids. This is the best flight sim I have ever had, does anyone else remember the sims with the flat triangular wafer thin clouds, perhaps I am thinking of flying corp, not sure as I haven't been able to run that for a long time under xp.

Just flown a quick combat and when I landed at my airfield came under a lot of machine gun fire from the ground, Is this just a glitch with quick combat? I haven't embarked on a campaign yet as I am still getting to grips with flying and graphic settings.

Point taken, I guess you shouldn't assume your home airfield is yours when you start in the air.

I was definitely targetted, all enemy had been shot down and I was the only aircraft sitting in the middle of the airfield. No matter for QC but I would be offended if it happened in a campaign.

I deleted the assignments to the rudder for the joystick and switched to the pedals and I set the rudder axis for the pedals but I got no response when trying to set left and right rudder, when I go to fly right rudder turns left and vice versa

I tried my driving pedals, they worked but which ever way I tried to assign them they were always the wrong way round. I got them working fine with pacific fighters after some trial and error, shame if I can't get them right with OFF.

I have a coolermaster 460 and I have used that psu calculator, actually I ramped it up a bit allowing for ram upgrade, cpu upgrade, which I am considering and 100% peak load and aging capacitor. Result was 416w with a gts250 1gb. Putting the gts250 into my current setup gives 339w also with the 100% peak and aging capacitors so I reckon this could be ok. I looked on ebuyer for the coolermaster power supply reviews and buyers were running 9800gt cards and faster processors than I have and reportingthat the power supply was fine. I was a bit concerned that the psu rating differed on on other calculators namely the asustek but thie extreme power one is a lot more detailed so I presume this is more accurate.

Thanks for your thoughts. Been looking at 9600gt esave from innovision and gts25o which according to asustek site psu calculator arrives at 450w. Will also look at ati now, dont know anything about them but obviously folks seem to rate them. Any advice as to how much spare power you should allow with a psu? I am also looking to possiblyt upgrade psu as it will remove that constraint. 460 psu came with case, probably a mistake not to buy seperate, but I thought 460 would be enough........ Also tweaked the overrides in cfs config, managed to get the scenery and terrain up tp 3 with framerate in twenties.

There is a lot to digest. I haven't seen anything on ebay that I thought was a good deal but been looking at 94-95-9600gt cards with 512 or 1gb memory. They would seem to be an improvement on what I have at a reasonable cost.

There is some lively discussion going on here, I am looking at geforce 9 series on ebuyer at the moment as I reckon if I'm going to upgrade it may as well be a good one, I have always had nvidia as I have never had a problem with them. My psu is 460 which I know is not massive but I found a psu calculator online and according to that my comp is using 251w and that is with likely future upgrades and everything I may connect on at the same time, I will stick another gb ram in too.
