  1. OFFice/OFFbase/OFFworld 1.1.0 now available!

Ah, yes, the "good old" Windows Registry... Ok, I am a long way from the most advanced programmer in the world - I only write mainly mathematical or data processing stuff when I need to for engineering work. But still, that registry seems like a royal pain in the patootey to me. I avoid it at all costs, which is what I think Microsoft had in mind, to be able to lock you out of your own computer. My experience with it has been that it is merely an overly complicated, and no less error-prone way to make .ini files. Ok, Rant over... Yessir, if you can manage to keep'em separate whilst we transition to WOFF, then whoppee! it may be a busy winter over France for me!
  2. OFFice/OFFbase/OFFworld 1.1.0 now available!

Probably way more than earned, I'd say! I wonder if OFF/OFFice/OFFbase/OFFworld will be able to co-exist with WOFF on the same machine? If I get into this, I may not want to give it up right away!
  3. OFFice/OFFbase/OFFworld 1.1.0 now available!

Just another quick note of encouragement, and to say thanks for doing all this. When the sun starts dropping over the horizon sooner, I fully intend to get this installed and get back into the air. Meanwhile, with all the rain we've had, I will dutifully man my mowers (And weed-whackers, and the tractor, and the sprayers, and the loppers, and the pole pruner, and the compost dump, and the chain saw, and the splitter,... ). Just curious, is the 1.1.0 a more significant difference than, say, 1.0.10? Best, Tom
  4. Dear oh Dear... We Need WOFF

Yeah, i'm still here, and I understand what CaptSopwith is saying (markets do move on), and I can only add that my prayers are with the devs. I'm glad to see so many have popped in to say they are still here, that can only be encouraging. I'd also like to encourage Lothar, I think he's done a wonderful job consolidating things, managing and configuring his own add-ons and those of the others. I'd join up in a heartbeat but in summer, I have very little time to fly. I've probably spent more time commenting here than on the stick (no stick at work...) I'd give my eye-teeth if there was a living thing I could do to help, but it is what it is. But I'm not going anywhere, when WOFF comes out my check will be in the mail! Dev's, don't lose heart. And keep the pace steady, don't burn out. I'm looking forward to a big celebration meeting of the BOC! I'll even wear my propeller beanie!
  5. Another Nail-Biter: Thank you OBD!

Amazing, what a well-written description! You had my adrenaline pumping just reading it! Man I gotta get back in the air!
  6. Aircraft Nicknames

Yow! Now you know why the US Navy gave these to the US Marines at first - carrier landings didn't go so well. I'm no expert on the history of the Corsair, so I don't know if specific modifications were made that later allowed carrier ops, or if the British started doing it and we were shamed into getting it right! If I recall, the Brits managed carrier landings before we did. Love that plane, though. You are correct, though, the Japanese called it Whistling Death. If I ever get some spare time, I have a kit to build.
  7. I'll say, "Mmuahahahahaaa!!!"... now I have that Steve Miller song earworming me half to death... THANK YOU! (not) i want to fly like an eagle...
  8. But surely the wormhole centers around the Great War! In 1965, Snoopy was somehow transported to the French aerodromes, and found himself slinking back across enemy lines after being downed by the great Manfred von Richtoven himself! Olham, you may be on to something here! Pol, Winder, and the rest may be freezing and covered in castor oil as we speak, capturing every nuance of the air war (hope they took Andy to record the sounds...)
  9. Well, if it does take longer to re-create it, don't forget that there were a lot more people creating it than are recreating it! And it was their full time job! Still, i understand everyone's impatience. I have a few minutes at the end of the day here and was running a test to see if my speakers were set up properly to support Dolby 5.1 - they worked... but does CFS3 support 5.1 speaker setups? or would Andy's sound updates do it? (sidebar question...) It seems that I don't gte anythng out of my back speakers in OFF or CFS3 ETO.
  10. Flyby, I seriously don't understand why none of those Wall St. types are in jail. - or is it High St. over in Jolly Old England? We have the same thing over here, my home state of PA is in trouble because the public employees got the moon & sun for their pension programs. Then, of course, the "housing bubble" burst over here; that was nothing but a festering, poisonous combination of greed, corruption, and knuckle-headed stupidity on the part of the government, Wall St., and the American consumer. Sheesh. I am fortunate enough to have a modest 401k, and am fortunate not to have lost it due to corruption (I know someone whose $500,000 410k went "poof" in the Enron scandal), but I may as well have kept the money under my mattress for all the growth I'm (not) getting out of it. Counting inflation, it's a net loss over 16 years... And Murphy's Golden Rule continues to operate in full vigor, as you noted. "Him what has the gold, makes the rules..." Jerks. But we're pulling for you, at least in spirit.
  11. The Illustrated BOC News, July 9, 2011

But it helps that you've popped it to the top for our present enjoyment! I hadn't see this, so thanks! That's quite a piece of work. Don't know that I geta ll the inside jokes, but what I do are great! And the Dodo! They can't fly!
  12. Need help with graphics

Man, I am literally praying for the Devs. I know they gotta be between heaven & hell themselves seeing the good stuff they've previewed to us and yet not being quite ready for prime time. And you keep hanging in there, and for that I thank you. It's too quiet around here, I hope you get soime help; I sure wish I could pitch in. Keep up the good work, I think you're single-handedly keeping OFF "in view" & attractive while Pol & the guys struggle on!
  13. Surfaced

I was concerned for Erik, after last year that's the first thing I wonder about when there are problems here. I haven't been real active lately (at least here, "real life" is quite a different story...), but I do keep up and I really like "hanging out" with y'all - you're a special bunch, and Erik has made this a very comfortable place. Ah, feels like home again...! <the Human Drone sips his piping hot morning coffee> G'day, gents!
  14. Summer Update?

Thanks, gaw! The pic represents my approximate skill and "barmy-ness"level, & I'm quite proud of my badge! A few others have them around here, if you look... You may wish to ask Olham or RAf Louvert about what it all means... Just hoping I can get (meaningfully) back in the air soon. I've D/L'd 3 versions of Lothar's OFFice bundle of add-ons and have yet to get one installed...
  15. Summer Update?

So much work, so little time... I didn't realize how much job-related travel I've had until I noticed I'd made the first level of airline preferred status earlier this month. At home, I've been mowing and chopping and digging and planting and spraying, and maintaining all the machinerey that I need to do so - with nearly 6 hilly acres to try to make managable, summers are busy. Summers? As soon as I can get out in late winter! I don't play other computer games, I just like my flight sims. I haven't been able to really settle back and fly for months now, but will occasionally fire up OFF or CFS3 ETO (when my brother-in-law comes over) or even FSX for a spin around my hometown. But for fanatstic views and realism, OFF HiTR is simply gorgeous, I'll just "free flight" that for the fun of flying and the beauty of the scenery. And I'm as anxious as all of you to see WOFF; but I sure understand what the devs are up against trying to put out such a major and definitive body of work while holding down day jobs - I can't even manage to fly regularly, much less code! And I lurk on here at work, I love the cameraderie of this site.
  16. OFFice/OFFbase/OFFworld 1.0.6 now available!

You know, bless your heart for all you've been putting into this! I D/L'd .06 (or some pre-1.0 version) and never had a chance to install it - then 1.03 and again, no time, and now you're up to 1.06! Gaa! I need some time for flying! And for CONFIGURING the flying!
  17. Replenish Ammo

In my experience, unlimited ammo does not count the rounds you've fired; or actually, it does, but it doesn't show you until after you end the mission or crash, then, under the "Stats" tab in native CFS3, it shows you how many rounds were fired, how many "hits" you had, and your percentage of accuracy*. But the text display, while flying with unlimited ammo, just shows dashes (blank lines) where "rounds remaining" is shown. So obviously the value is in memory somewhere, the question is, can the devs get at it and write it to the screen? (As if they don't have enough to do...) *(I'm so lousy I'd have to have a C-130 following me around carrying my ammo for me; lead would rain from the sky like a summer thunderstorm when I was dogfighting overhead! The gun barrels would be melted like red-hot spaghetti if you could actually carry & fire the number of rounds I've shot in some fights...)
  18. Replenish Ammo

Well, then, I take it CTRL+J doesn't reload your machine guns, only the loadout you selected under the drop down menu (in native CFS3) for bombs, missles, drop tanks, etc. (no, I haven't had time to check, in spring i work at the office, go home, eat, and go outside to mow grass or cut wood or plant or weed or spray or digh stumps or change oil or sharpen blades or grease the tractor or ....!) But yeah, no matter how you do it, it's up to you to abide by gentlemanly rules of warfare! Best, Tom
  19. Replenish Ammo

Hi all, been a while.... I'll explain sometime. in stock CFS3, Ctrl+J will reload munitions (such as bombs, rockets, etc) anywhere in your flight if you want to ahve a gorefest of unlimited bombing. I don't know if it woul do the same for being out of ammo, as I'm still a sissy an dfly with unlimited ammo (when I can actually get some stick time). But as you say, to be fair, you should have to land to reload.
  20. The man makes a good point, though, that no matter how good WOFF maps will be, by using them on a separate device such as a tablet or laptop, we could save screen real estate and switching back and forth (valuable for us single monitor guys). For me, it's either an approach such as this or paper maps. And while paper maps (maybe even mounted on scrolls!) would be most authentic, they also tend to clutter the place up, so yeah, I'm interested.
  21. WOFF Release Date Is On The Calendar!

Matt, if it were up to me, you'd have that Oscar. OFF is the only simulator I've ever had where I don't skip the opening, but in fact look forward to it. Your music and Pol's video are just beautiful. I don't know how you'll outdo yourselves for WOFF, you've set the bar pretty high!
  22. The Strafe Of The Kite Balloon

Good points about the fuses, Flyby, and the discipline of shooting as well. I would think that the "dive bomb" type of attack would also give you the advantage of being a difficult target - AA stationed around the balloon would be firing up past the balloon to some degree, and moving their sites closer and closer to the balloon as you dropped - and then, as you pulled out, you are really moving and again represent a more difficult target. I was kinda surprised in the last few stanzas of the poem that the poor fellow, while successful in his attack, was not successful in his escape. I can imagine going after a balloon this way in OFF, it makes a lot of sense. But in real life, I'd probably try to release the rockets as high as I could above the ballon and still have a good chance of hitting it - probably have the guns blazing, too! I'd go lower in OFF, but I'm a lot "braver" in OFF than I would be in real life!
  23. WOFF Release Date Is On The Calendar!

Yeah, some reordering may be in order, but still a wonderful work! I'd put "Pigs Fly" and maybe even "Entropy Reverses" ahead of the US National Debt being paid, but that's just cranky old me. And Hellshade is probably correct, though I've had a few grumbling acknowledgements that while she wasn't wrong, at least I was partly right... Hang in there, Dev's, we're pulling for you!
  24. Happy New Year-Carlin Style

Yessir, George was unique; and though he didn't express those sentiments, it's obviously plausible that he could have. Even the prayer thing - one can be cynical or even opposed to organized religion but still have spiritual beliefs - religious organizations are made up of imperfect people, and when you group them together, "none of us is as dumb as all of us put together!" (Sheesh, come to think of it, does that ever apply to the US Congress!) Never underestimate the stupidity of people in large groups, I always say! But still they can, and have, done much good alongside the more visible screwups... But Happy New Year anyway! Best to all, may the bad times be behind, and the days of WOFF and Roses ahead! Tom
