Russian soldiers/pilots in Vietnam?
exhausted replied to MAKO69's topic in Military and General Aviation
Only one was lost and only one was damaged by a missile fired from another aircraft. A B-52B to an F-100A's Sidewinder and a B-52G to an F-4G's HARM are the only times B-52s were hit by other aircraft. -

Why don't you ask the Mirage Factory to take a look at it and help you put it out. -
Russian soldiers/pilots in Vietnam?
exhausted replied to MAKO69's topic in Military and General Aviation
I have heard of most of those pilots, I have read several books from their perspective, the better part of me knows that those numbers aren't accurate. Many don't match US records and the kill criteria was different. In "MiGs Over North Vietnam" by Roger Boniface, the state-sanctioned story is told and while it is fascinating, it's embellishments remind me of the way the DPRK teaches about the Korean War. Inflations, embellishments, lies, pride, nationalism, etc. Here's an example: On the night of 27 December 1973(sic) Pham Tuan flew Red-5121 to within 1,100 yards of a B-52 (unclear which model) and shot it down with Atolls. The US has never acknowledged a loss to fighters of a B-52. On the other hand, in "Stratofortress: The Story of the B-52" the author interviews 2 B-52G (less ECM) gunners who each claimed a MiG-21 shot down around the same time frame. The VPAF doesn't acknowledge those losses either. MiGs Over North Vietnam was hard to read because listening to the accounts of VPAF pilots was like listening to Bagdad Bob claim that US soldiers are committing suicide by the hundreds outside the gates of Bagdad. -
Look at this! As soon as I step in things start to get better :) Let that be a lesson world! All kidding aside, I'm glad El Jefe is back.

Good luck to your Dad. I'm looking forward to hearing of his recovery.

Over half the topics are by one guy who treats the thing like it's his own blog. Man I know I should just ignore it but my temper has the best of me and it's made me so annoyed. I know several other posters feel the same way and I want to propose a rule to stop this from happening again: You don't get to post in the Pub until 90 days after registration. That way if you want to see what's going on in there you can look but you will not see it as another opportunity to spam your views. It pisses me off that I actually feel like this needs attention but a certain board member has started 20 new topics in 3 days and had added nothing meaningful to our board. Maybe I'm just being rubbed the wrong way but it reminds me of 05 in 2006 when every other topic in the Thirdwire forum was "YANKEE AIR PIRATE UPDATE #4,331" Every other damn topic was his.

So how about them F-15s?

If George W Bush was in office there would be equal outrage as if it were Pres. Obama and it was his head. It goes for any standing president. I don't agree with the censorship though. It is covered under free speech and offers no threat to any standing leader. BTW, here is the offending head. It honestly looks like the cave man from the Geico commercial. How much of that is due to the hair and how much is due to the face I don't know.

Russian Huey what-if?
exhausted replied to dsawan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
I tend to think they actually had Hueys... I've seen the scheme some where. -
Russian soldiers/pilots in Vietnam?

It doesn't help that Cunningham (convicted as a congressman of fraud and accepting bribes, the scumbag) helped perpetuate that myth of Col Tomb. I have come to doubt much of what he has said. I even have some doubts on his ace status. -
List the books you have read and are reading! Reading: 1. Part of The Pacific was based on this. 2. I sought out this book after reading World War Z, which copies the oral history format of this book. I enjoy the interviews and perspectives. The most interesting parts so far are the interviews from the conscience objector and the racist Kentucky National Guard unit which was sent to the Philippines in November '41. Finished: 1: The hardback edition. It's very comprehensive and I was glued through the accounts of SAM dodging over Hanoi and Iraq 2003! 2. 3. The last 3 books in preparation for a dual 1/72 model build. 4. An interesting perspective from an Airman who flew several missions suppressing anti air threats during Desert Storm. The IADS wasn't the only threat to these mens security. 5. Once again in preparation for a model build, I love to see how the Devil Dogs used it!

I read the second one. I'm waiting for the next book in the series for Harriers. It will be on OIF and OEF. I was fascinated by VMA-311 (I think?) taking some of VMAT-203's birds into war.

Ugh this really pisses me off. We sure were pretty bad to each other back then. The paranoia still persists. It's still like a Mexican stand off, but the guns are lowered.

Fellow simmers and model enthusiasts, I have put together a list of modeling sites that I have found useful. I will list the site then write about the features. If you are an experienced modeler then you probably know about these, but newbies like myself will find these to be new. With so many pictures, tips, and reviews you may have to plan the next couple of months of your life around these sites. 1. http://aircraftresourcecenter.com/ ARCair.com is a plastic model site that has an excellent gallery and a great tips section. The forum* is filled with subject matter experts. * As of 6/11/12 the forum has been down for the day. * Forum back up as of 6/12/12. 2. http://hyperscale.com/ Hyperscale is on the ball with aircraft modeling news and related book reviews. The gallery is a little more extensive then Arcair's and I could spend days going through each entry. 3.http://modelingmadness.com/ Modeling Madness has great reviews and previews of hundreds of aviation kits. Want to see what you'll find in the box before you buy it? Try the previews. 4. http://www.cybermode...com/index.shtml Admittedly so, I mainly look at the aircraft section. I feel that this site is a little bit more thorough with it's 'in box' reviews then site #3. For example, check out it's page on Monogram's 1/72 scale B-36. This was the first site I found I spend weeks looking at all the parts and decals from every listed kit. It has helped me select the simpler kits and the reviews have helped me to steer clear of the nightmarish examples. That's it for now. If you have more then please list the site in the format I have used above and I will include it next. Also, here is a list of my favorite sites to buy models from. 1. http://www.scalehobbyist.com/ -best overall prices and extremely fast 2. http://amazon.com/ -competitive pricing and lots of variety. 3. http://ebay.com/ -some real gems, but be prepared to compete for them! Thanks for looking and happy modeling.

Greenscreen for SF2?
exhausted replied to RogerSmith's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
What about using the new .LOD method TK invented for such a thing? One flat plane with a single green tile. Seems like the easiest route to go! -
May 2012 patch
exhausted replied to Sundowner's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
This is the first patch I haven't installed simply because I don't want the hassle of backing up and slowly reactivating my mods. And I won't play because I'm not patched up. Catch-22 -

If I were in charge that mother f***er(s) wouldn't make it into custody...

Let the court decide. It all sounds pretty cut and clear. The fact that he's a Marine has no bearing, but the fact that the neighbor bought the dog for $2000 and is suing for $4500 may. In fact I feel that it may work against the dog owner in the first place. It all comes down to state. A good trade to keep the peace between the neighbors would have been a wise offer, but going the legal route may tear these guys apart. Settle it outside of court, men. PS. Jedimaster, Marines never fire warning shots. There is no point. It is seen as a negligent discharge in a civilian setting, anyway.

I tried smoking salvia once (ok, twice but it's perfectly legal here in Texas) and it's no stretch to see your friends turn into things like that.....

Is that the Canadian Air Force?

Looks like a hell of a trip. I need to get my hands on some LSD before the end of the world...

Enlisted pilots, an untapped resource?
exhausted replied to MAKO69's topic in Military and General Aviation
The Marines have enlisted members fly UAVs. -
Interesting. We are all alike in that way. Nothing ever broke in Yuma! lol Isn't Rome where they had Woodstock?
