Colour conundrums and other musings
Trotski posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Hello Combat Ace World, got a quick question for one of you 'orrible lot wot is in the know. I am fiddling around with the Mezec's and Messers, and I have run into a bit of an issue which I am struggling to rectify ( if rectified it can be ) As those of you in the know are aware, this little gem from the AVIA stable both the S-99 and the S-1-99 carry cannon pods , now, I am trying to match the curtains to the carpet, ie I want the darn things to match the colour of the parent aircraft wot is carrying the bleedin' things, I have got the drop tanks to work in the colour department, but these pesky gun pods are bugging my silly little head , one would assume ( and I know one never should ) that as in each skin folder it has a bmp of the drop tank and if you change the colour of that bmp , like majik it matches, and the Squadron Commander is a happy Teddy Bear !! and going by that assumption, ( there I go again !) you would think dropping the bmp file from aforesaid bleedin' gun pod folder that it would work the majik and CO's happiness enhancing factor would be most high , and he may then confirm my leave..........errrm sorry I digress, however doing this does not have the desired effect, and I am stumped and confustimicated as to how ( if at all ) this end may be acheived, and I can go on leave, the CO will be happy, and my AVIA will be all a matching and pretty like. please refer to this piccy to see what I am attempting to get at. -

As a further note, just to bore you a bit more, the easiest work around I hear you say is to fly the 3W version, however, I hate that aircraft it looks wrong , and Montys in my opinion is a far better model, plus Montys has the sliding Galland hood which is nice too its just a shame he didnt make the model with the gunpods "hardwired" in as the 3W version is, but no doubt he had his reasons for doing so, but who would want to fly this aircraft without gunpods ? its a minor issue I know, but one that offends mine eyes and sends my OCD into overdrive harharharhar -

Yes that is correct it is a gunpod, and no its not integral with the airframe , like it is on the 3W S-199, if it was then the problem wouldnt exist hehehehe...........as for re colouring or repainting the thing, again not the issue as I can do that quite simply, as I have dne with the Drop Tanks, the problem is this, I have arranged the drop tanks so for each different coloured skin there is a matching tank , so for example if I was flying with for arguments sake 2 aircraft, ie, myself and my wingman, and my aircraft was a sand coloured one, and my wingmans was a green one, my drop tank would be blue/grey and his would be green like this ................................................from my aircraft to my wing man. then from my wing man back to my aircraft as you can see same flight but the drop tanks match the chosen aircraft, this is done by placing the texture bmp/jpg from the drop tank folder into the skin folder, then re colouring the tank IN the skin folder to the colour you want......so that is simple , and no hassle or issue........however !!!! and here is my conundrum.......with the gun pods, it dont want to play, like so........... same example but now with gun pods carried, so fram me to my oppo....... As you can see my gun pods are the correct colour, and match the drop tank colour and the aircraft as well...........then.....yeah you guessed it !! 'orrible blue narsty gunpods hanging off that nice green aeroplane....no wonder the enemy flies away in disgust, and the CO? is having kittens !! and even if that Czech aircraft was flying alone, it would still have blue pods Now, one would assume, that to solve the issue, you follow the same story as the one with the tanks, simples , right ????....errr nope not having it, refuses to play, and tells me I can have any colour gunpods I like as long as they are blue !! Logically speaking, as the file setup and architecture for the guns file as it is for the tanks file you would thingk adding the bmp/jpg of the guns into your skin folder and recolouring ( as with the tanks ) to taste that would be the answer, but as with many things in SF/FE it wants to make your life miserable, annoy your C?O, and cause the Enemy to bog off and fight someone who has the common decency to have matching carpets and curtains, I hope this clarifies the situation better. -

leave the texture in the skin folder its self but not in the gunpod folder you mean ? so the gunpod folder will only have the 2 inis, and the lods yes ? -

No that wont do the trick, as the gun pods are not part of the skin but the same as a drop tank, or any other ordnance, like I say I have got the drop tanks to change colour with the skin of the aircraft , ie, if I have 2 aircraft in my flight, and one is that green one in the picture, and my wingman has a silver finish, the drop tanks on each aircraft will match the airframe they are hanging off, in theory, if you can achieve this with a drop tank, then the same should go for the gun pods, as the file structure of the GP's is exactly the same as those of the FT's , and in this particular aircraft along with the skin jpgs there is also a bmp copied from the FT but coloured to match the skin , this works very well , but these bloody gun pods are horrible, I mean, no one will engage me in combat as my bits dont mach !!!....true story !! -

Fiat G91T?
Trotski replied to fallenphoenix1986's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Hmmm the only pit I can see for the g-91 is the one for the G-91Y , so the throttle quadrant and the instruments are all wrong as they are set up for twin engines not one, and the Rohdesian one is using a Hawk 'pit, is there another one , that I cant see ? -

I didn't realise here was a pit done for it, mus go look for it, love the G-91 a very pretty aeroplane, along with the Jaguar , and most SAABs , with Mirages running a close second , got to be one of my favourite jets, saw the Tricolori when they flew them on several occasions. -

VR Spitfire Mk IV - Im so very very sorry veterans!
Trotski replied to Arkhamuk's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
VR is the way forward for sure, at the moment though it is relatively new tech so correspondingly the prices for 1st and 2nd generation kit is very expensive, it will get cheaper, and I am gonna have to wait for the time that happens, for flight sims it just ads so much more to the experience, also games like Star Trek Bridge Commander, is just amazing , excited for the future . -

Do i need different SF2 releases for different mods?
Trotski replied to Arkhamuk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Some of the big campaign mods , and terrain mods do need a fully merged setup of all the titles, so by only owning SF Europe you are a little limited when it come to those , other mods such as aircraft etc are dependant on whether or not you have the actual aircraft in your set up, also some of the skins etc are reliant on certain DLC packs to add the relevant aircraft into your library. I would seriously consider buying all the titles in the series and then you will have no problems with anything at all. So in answer to the question, you originally posed, in a lot of cases having the full set of titles is beneficial, and also the DLC 's as well then you can run riot and install stuff like a crazy fool hehehehehe !! -
A-1H USMC DECAL.ini Corrections
Trotski posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
A-1H USMC DECAL.ini Corrections View File Just a quick errata sheet for the USMC Skyraider skins I released last month, I just noticed a glaring error, ie I had misnumbered the decals in the decal.ini on 3 of the skins I uploaded that is for VMA212 - 251 - 333 causing the tail numbers to be errr rather truncated on the right side of the fin.....ooops !! So, here are the 3 corrected decal.ini's for the relevant skins, just rename them ie just delete the names I have put on them for reference, and rename EACH one "Decals" and drop them into the relevant skin folder and allow it to over write the existing decal.ini file if you didnt delete it first of course, oh yes, I had also forgotten to enable the prop decals on those 3 skins so that has been rectified as well. Totally my bad here, I shall be having strong words with my quality control department , apologies for the error , silly me !! Submitter trotski00 Submitted 05/07/2018 Category A-1 -

on the lightning it was because of the fuel and gun pack, and on the Bucc a rotary bomb bay which meant the aircraft flew fully armed at very low level, very fast with no drag from dangly bits hanging off the wings and the Bucc was one of the best maritime strike aircraft in service at the time, the Lightning needed the same, ie no draggy fuel tanks , except for the long range overwing ones that could be fitted for ferrying, , so you had a very fast, very clean airframe that could rotate from take off to almost vertical climb , if you have never see a Lightning "Scramble" look it up and be amazed, for its time one of the most advanced interceptors around, so all the preggie bellies were there for good reason.

This is a rework of the available A-1H Skyraider skins, the project started when I noticed there was a clipping issue on the original user made skins, after the stock aircraft had been made flyable etc. being an OCD sufferer I couldn't live with it, so I had to comb the DATA.INI of the aircraft to find the issue, which I never didi, probably one number out of place , or something of that nature. So I re did the whole data file, using a frankenstien of a couple of the available ones, mainly Wrench's , so worry ye not good campers, very little has been altered, so the A/C still operates as Wrench intended, just NO CLIPPING !!! ................YAY !! RESULT !! HAPPY BLOODY DANCE !! ...... Anyhow, I then went on to re do all the skins, utilising the templates from bot Wrench, and Nyghtfall, so a mix and match of those as well, I hope you like and enjoy the results !! Included are VA-35 VA-52 ( two versions, one dirty one clean , the clean one has new decals for the squadron markings made by me ) VA-65 (Early version ) VA-65 ( USS Enterprise ) VA-85 VA-105 ( A really shiny pristine skin ) VA-176 (USS Shangri La ) VA-176 (USS Intrepid) the reworked data.ini to stop the clipping issue Decals ( of course....no use without 'em as I have altered theDECAL.INI of all the skins , 'cos I like to make trouble harharhar ) All the Sounds needed Finally the weapons ie drop tanks and the bog bomb, and the Pilot I myself use for this aircraft, oh yes and all the screens, both in hi res, and lo res if you need lo res screens for any reason. One final note, on the VA-176 ( Intrepid ) skin, two of the aircraft have kill markings, I have put the entry to enable those in the DECAL.INI of that particular aircraft, however I have them disabled, as in reality the Bu Numbers of the skins and the Actual aircraft are not the same, and I couldnt be bothered to make the correct bu numbers for thos 2 particular aircraft, however if you do not have OCD, and you want the marking showing ( they are keyed to the correct nose numbers ) the just remove the hash marks in the DECAL.INI [Decal019] MeshName=Fuselage DecalLevel=2 DecalFacing=LEFT //FilenameFormat=A-1H/VA176a/D/kills <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< THAT THERE !!! Position=-0.70,0.70 Scale=0.55 DecalMaxLOD=3 Thats about it, please enjoy, and please leave feedback if you like...........................cheers !! OH yes, I forgot one last thing, I have re-enabled the wingfold system, , yes , yes I know its not perfect, as it leaves the stores hanging in a weightless environment, but hey ho, if ya dont like it, eith re disable it or , simply ignore it !! so canopy opens with SHIFT-0 and the wingfold is SHIFT-9. -
