  1. Now now guys, lets be nice shall we. Yubba, biting back at comments made by someone voicing their opinion, is , rather I would think, something that should be confined to PM land, I would also say that I would also be a little peeved by Ceasars comment, or at least, the way he voiced them, maybe he should have voiced said opinions in a PM to you, as it does seem a little bit like a rap across the knuckles from a School Teacher who is having a bad day. However, if a little terse, they are his opinion, and he has the honesty to say what he feels about whatever it is all about. So, good and bad on both sides .......That is my honest opinion by the way, I am just saddened when I see things like this , which could escalate out of hand and get ......childish. But anyhow, I hope I haven't rubbed either of you up the wrong way. Just saying it as I see it.
  2. Ok, so, I am currently working on an Avia B-71 , all the skin files are in DDS format, the markings were painted on, and I have removed them and re done all the panel lines and rivets, and it all works fine and dandy. Now, I am trying to get the decals to appear ( as if by majjik ) on the tail surfaces and the wings, however....yup you guessed it ......not a hope in merry hell, however, the fuselage decals , work like a Sheep lovers wet dream !! so, how does that compute ? all 3 skin files are DDS, and the decals are TGA's so, my question is, how the bloody 'ell do I get the darn things to show up on my lovingly and patiently re done wings, failing that, how do I go about converting the skins to JPG's so that they actually work, and not just give me the Black skin of death .......or may it be because the aircrafts lods are only hardwired to accept DDS format skins ? I really dislike DDS, its pointless, and JPG format is so much better grrrrr ( RANT RANT, Rave, Swear, Curse ) and why then in this case, if conversion to JPG is not possible, do decals show up on fuselage, but not on the flying surfaces....ARRRRRGHHH DDS !!! hate hate hate. OK....I'm calm now, taken my meds
  3. Thankfully DDS isn't utilised that much , it only seems to be present on older SF1 files some of which have been ported over to SF2 , I just find them awkward to work with.
  4. Yeah I have given up trying to convert them, but anyhow, they still work just fine as DDS files, it just a matter of getting used to working with them, I have found that Paint.net handles DDS files just fine for editing, no plugins that don't work are needed, installed the plugin for Gimp though and that seems to work ok, but I only use Gimp for decal making at the moment, the bbad thing about paint.net is that it is a bit simplistic compared to PSP. But anyhoo, your advice about the LOD viewer worked like a dream, I hadn't used it before, and I wasn't aware of how simple it makes life !! So thanks for that particular heads up mate !!
  5. Wish I was more au fait with modelling etc. as I would be willing to help, but I'm still learning the basics
  6. There is a web site, but it is mainly an in memorium one now , they use our very own CA as a home base it would seem , which is fantastic, I have been watching the work they are doing and its bloody great.....looking forward to it being released, but as with all things its a labour of love .
  7. Nah its ok, I just don't like 'em, prefer JPG's problem is sorted now anyhow.
  8. yeah there is a tank lod download for it, if you add that in it gets rid of those nasty lines for ya http://combatace.com.../13582-pit1rar/
  9. Well blow me down and bugger me blind with a wet Haddock !! I never knew it was so easy to use that bit o' kit !! thanks buddy, yet again you have unerringly pointed me in the correct and most likely, most obvious direction, the node name was wrong, I was going by the names on the existing decal.ini, so assumed that they were correct.......again it proves, one must NEVER assume....as there is always an ASS in assume !! This is why I lurrrrrve this site, you chappies are all so helpful , and non precious about stuff....unlike other Wankspangles who shall remain un named . Thanks again mate, I was ripping my hair out, and that's hard with a crew cut hahahaha.
  10. Well I know for sure its not the TGA's as they are all fine in everything else I am using, so I would be inclined to go with option 1/3 it's just I prefer my decals to be decals, I hate painted on markings and use them as little as possible, and this AVIA, had bloody huge Czech markings on lol . I shall trie the LOD doodad, never used one before, so be prepared for more moans and whines from this corner of the naughty step And furthermore.....DDS blows !! don't effing well use it...its shit !! and I have at least another 3 bloody aircraft to do that are in DDS ARRRRGH !! need more JD !!

  14. Are Top Gun quotes taboo?

Dammit....I gotta watch Top Gun again now......dammit
  15. yes indeed I am, I seem to have sorted that problem now with the idle RPM tweak. as for some of the entries on the sound list.ini, the last 5 entries are self explanatory ie, they specify where and how you hear different sounds, the looped entry is just that, it loops the sound, 3d and Doppler yup think we all pretty much get those 2 as well, its just the priority and the number buffers that don't mean anything to me.
  16. Has anyone seen , or know of a mod that animates the loading / para drop door on the C-47 ? I know its only asthetics, but it looks a little peculiar dropping the Paras out of "some mysterious aperture" in the fuselage , as the Box car and the AN-2 have operating doors, I wondered if this was possible to model on the C-47's we have already..........Also, another question, is there any way of making the Paras, transition into actual infantry when they hit dirt ? or do they just land, and that is it ?
  17. SF 2 EXE but fully merged..........I shall look for your cockpit mod mate, don't think I have tried it yet
  18. The issue seems to be more prevalent with jet engines, which have a more even sound, whereas a Piston prop, and a radial engine in particular are much rougher sounding, so the underlying what I call looping effect isn't so noticeable.
  19. No you are getting what I mean exactly, the changing the Idle RPM seems to have done the trick though, although far from perfect, I think I can live with it, I knew the answer would be simple, I have heard your sounds before they aren't half bad at all mate !
  20. Yeah UI have experimented a bit and it doesn't seem to make a great deal of difference, I am just trying to get a more "phased" sound out of the engines, kind of a quasi Doppler effect. Another question is, if I re record the sound, and increased the length of it, would that also smooth out the sound ? What I mean is, as these are looped sounds, then when they have played fully, for the 6 or 7 seconds that seems usual, then they re loop and that sound when it stops then re loops is quite noticeable on some of the sound files, especially when you increase the throttle, resulting in the "galloping Horse" effect.....So would increasing the length of the sound actually do anything to alleviate this.....Sorry for all the seemingly peculiar and off the wall questions, but I am pretty new to the editing modding thing. So just trying to understand how it works, some of it is self explanatory, but some things are a little more arcane.
  21. it's a kinda majik !! So this leads me on to the next slightly insane and twisted query. If I adjust the idle settings, for only one of the engines, and not the other, does this actually have any effect on the engine performance, the idea being ( most likely incorrectly ) that as there are 2 differing Idle settings, therefore 2 different sounds, ie an unbalanced engine sound, but obviously if that would affect the engine operation and performance, then, an undesirable and quite possibly rather daft idea........however if it doesn't have an adverse affect, then the resulting sound mix could be ......interesting.
  22. hmmm ok....I shall take a peek...thanks for that
  23. Hiya mate, I have downloaded your Glads and Falco , and the Pilots. Now I am aware that the pilots are designed for FE2 however, I have got all 3 Italian pilots working just lovely in SF2 , I also have the RAF Desert pilot working in SF2, but for the life of me, I cannot get the RAF Euro pilots to play ball, and I would really like to have these chaps, as your prop pilots ( the Italian Euro with mask in particular) to use as prop and transport pilots in SF2....any clues as to how to get the RAF Euro bods to jolly well get out of the Officers Mess, and go and fly some Cabbage Crates in a non FE2 environment. P.S. I REALLY REALLY REALLY like these pilots, oh yeah and the German WWI pilot, how do you get it to work with the scarf as there are 2 heads in the file.....a bit confused on that one too.
  24. AHHH ok....I think I already have that file floating around somewhere, I shall play around with it and see what is what......Cheers bud !!
