  1. how do you prevent it from automatically exiting once your plane is fatally damaged (ie lost wing, fire) so that you can watch/attempt to crashland until you finally hit the ground. I know this is done in config or something, but forget which thing it is.
  2. So, I have an HP Pavilion Dv5 laptop with the following specs: Processor: 2 Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 8600 @ 2.40 GHz RAM: 3GB Operating system: windows vista 32bit Video card: Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT Memory space: 222 GB total on my C drive, 86GB free. I have Rise of Flight and I have tried installing and running it before, it works, but it gives me the stop motion routine when I play it. I want to know what I would need to get/do for my PC to run rise of flight (preferebly on higher graphics settings) and what the cost (about) would be if it involved getting new hardware.
  3. map freeze

This is not the infamous scramble mission freeze, but something far worse. It would appear that I usually have no problem with maps in other missions (and perhaps scrambles as well, haven't tried one since i tried fixing it). but after playing for periods of say 20-30 minutes (as I have been on my attempts to fly DiD standard missions, much to my displeasure) I will hit the map key (as i have been doing so for the past 20-30 minutes to watch my position) , and the sim will freeze, then bring me back to the campaign screen. I have tried adjusting the resolution of the medium and high res maps as in the cheats and tips thread, but it didn't work (and I was having such a nice flight too). I wish to solve this problem, prefferebly without a reinstall.
  4. ITS A TRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Fe2b - Stunning

it runs with an original beardmore engine, so it probably does.
  6. OFF Dogfight video

Thank you very much! installing now!
  7. OFF Dogfight video

can you give me a link to where i can find the homebrew file? That was also a neat dogfight, but when I fly it, I usually do worse than a gentle nudge. Its a real sucker that a collision insta kills your pilot (not after you hit the earth, but before the impact with the earth, you notice you can't move your controls.)
  8. OFF Dogfight video

what sound mod are you using? Creaghorn's?
  9. Redo of, THE BLUE MAX!

not so sure about that one, I watched some clips on youtube and it looks like they both have radials.
  10. Redo of, THE BLUE MAX!

I would have rather had Stachel die by seizing the prototype out of hand and doing stupid things in it, thus having him die due to his own arrogance and stupidity rather than by having the General purposely putting him in the deathtrap and thus killing him through more underhanded treachery. also, the weird love triangle really could go, please, no having the nephew sleeping with the (granted married in) Aunt, that was just creepy. We could have it with them competing for the affections of some local girl or something and skip all the weirdness and unfaithfulness in marriage. Keep the excellent musical score. and it would kick some serious tail if Peter Jackson directed it.
  11. Vote: Best Field Modification

whats to stop the Fokker from ripping off your tail along with its wing when the rope goes taught? do you really want to catch one, or does it catch you, or do you both lose like in that photo of the python who ate a gator too big for his stomach?
  12. Pick your Plane and make your Mod

It would be quite nice, if they could add a mount to carry a single 25lb bomb on all nieuport models, It would reduce performance, but then 8 of those le prieur rockets probably weigh about as much as one of those bombs (maybe), and if you ran into trouble, you could dump the thing and go back to the normal capabilities of your aircraft. You could probably also do this for one of those 5kg bombs and put it on the german planes (not the halberstadts or Fokker EIII, those barely fly as is).
  13. Pick your Plane and make your Mod

an extra drum of ammunition in the nieuport 11s and 16s, just fill the fuel tank a bit less to offset the weight. also a gunsight hung from the top wing to mark where the bullets will fly.
  14. the heads do move, noticed it on a lot of the planes, they are connected with the ailerons.
  15. 14 Round Brisfit

the brisfit can be nasty, but when I have encountered them, I have noticed a few things. When they maneuver/turn their gunners rarely fire or hit, their wings come off easy if you shoot them (the lower ones), and it doesn't take them long to start flying like drunk skunks when you put a few rounds into them, then all you have to do is watch them stall-circle around for a while until a tree takes care of them.
  16. Dev's - How's about a P4 Bone?

don't forget to add the invisibility cloak and overshield powerups.
  17. Dev's - How's about a P4 Bone?

Also Rise of Flight has a mere handful of planes, and it charges you for all but the four initial ones, which makes the cost of the thing heap up and never stop growing (until they stop making planes). It also takes a killer computer setup to run, one that some of us (me at least) don't have or can't afford.
  18. So, I have been playing this game for a few weeks now, and have filled several cemeteries with the corpses of my pilots and victims (probably more pilots than victims). Through the course of this adventure, I have noticed that while the AI are savage killers, and are very well programmed, they do do a few silly things consistently. The first and perhaps most ridiculous is that most of the time I go out on balloon busting missions the enemy AA will more often than not promptly shoot it down themselves, depriving me of credit for the kill, and leaving me rather confused at the whole situation. Another thing that is really annoying is that your wingmen will shoot through you to get at the enemy plane you are after, with little regard to your safety (many times I have seen tracers wizz by only to look back and see a friendly plane is shooting at me!!). Of course since your wingman is trying his best to show you his care for you, they almost always nail that pesky aileron control cable. It should be noted that this almost never happens in Il2 (I have only been shot at a handful of times by my wingmen, mostly due to flying into their fire AFTER they have started, never due to them shooting through me when i was already there). My favorite by far, however, is the incessant kill poaching which I had thought I had left behind in Red Baron 3D. It should be noted (thank goodness) that it is not even a quarter as bad as in Red Baron 3d. However, On more than a few occasions, I have delivered a good burst into the enemy, causing them to go into a death spiral/catch on fire/lose parts only to see that moments later one of those s I am flying with zips in and fires a good burst into it. By that time it is almost always too late to shoot at the enemy plane again to reclaim your kill. This also does not happen in IL2, the AI almost never fire on aircraft in a spin, and never, ever ever fire on an aircraft that is on fire. That is not to say that kill poaching is not present, but it only happens once in a blue moon. also, is it just me, or do we all hate how the AI have a knack for sniping the crap out of your aileron cables? that said, this is a darn good game, and I love playing it. In fact, I believe it is time to get into my Nieuport 11 again and hope I have enough ammunition to shoot down one of those german mother fokkers from across the way (185 rounds sucks, but I am now consistently bagging an enemy aircraft with each encounter). Also, Is it possible to kill an enemy pilot in their plane? I have hit the pilot of an enemy aircraft many times (love how you can hear the scream over the motors and wind, but not nearly as ridiculous sounding as the one in Red Baron 3d.) but I have never seen the enemy aircraft go out of control, or dive or really be effected before.
  19. AI sillyness

how do you adjust the panning speed?
  20. AI sillyness

Son, I'm sorry, they got us. As for wingman collisions, it has happened to me most in SPADs, your trying to shoot a guy, making another pass and then WHAM, nailed in the face by a kill poaching wingman, almost all of my SPAD pilot deaths happened this way. I always do fly as flight leader, and sometimes I can get my men to abandon their poach attempts by frantically pressing commands, most of the time they ignore it though. I do not have track IR, and since your interior views have fixed directions to look in (you can't use the mouse or hat to look all around like in IL2) I use exterior views sometimes to make up for this. (also because I like to look at the outside of my plane sometimes). I also use warp, but the rest is to DiD standards.
  21. Ok, before you shoot me, all the other times I legitimately died a grizzly death in the skies over flanders, I just suck it up and begin a new, however this time was completely buggy and ridiculous. I start the mission, it loads and immediately my nieuport flips over and i die (no i didn't even get to start the motor or anything, I didn't even look at her funny!!!). basically, I want my guy back, I have earned my 7-10 kills fair and square in my glorified ultralight (nieuport 11), we all know how much it sucks, with its mere 185 rounds of MG ammo, it can barely bring down a Fokking Fokker E.III!!! so I'd really rather not start again, as I was almost to the point where i got to switch to the nieuport 16 (not a big improvement, but it has the new plane smell). problem is, I don't know how.
  22. Bringing back a dead pilot

Thanks for your help, I'll raise the bugger quickly before he starts to smell and grow moldy. again, if this hadn't been a freak bug I would leave him dead. but the dang thing did a crocodile deathroll on the airstrip right after the mission started, and since i was traveling at great height and speed (NOT!!!!, i didn't even have time to touch the joystick, let alone start it!!!). oh well, in the meantime i had started an american campaign with the 94th aero and I had the most interesting scrap with 4 albatross. it was at low level over the lines, and the german trenches and british trenches were both peppering everything that dared to move in the fray. I managed to damage two albatross and cause them to smoke, right before what i swear were german guns shot them and caught them on fire (either that, or it was a delayed reaction to my shots). It was crazy, we were all right off the deck and the gunners below didn't care if they shot friendly planes, they just wanted to see a grizzly crash. I survived the fight and went home with damaged ailerons and a holed petrol tank (those AI always hit your aileron cables, its really annoying).
  23. I really need help, i first posted this at 5:00 today, and now, at 10:00 the mods have still not read or allowed my post to be put on the board ( I find this frustrating, i just want to fly), When i create a new pilot, and try to select a squad, it crashes, giving me a system error 480, saying that it "can't create AutoRedraw Image" I think i have reconfigured my graphics, but i may have done it wrong or it may not have worked.
  24. when i go to enlist a new pilot, it has me select nationality, then fighter/bomber, then it tells me to pick a squad. when i click on "pick a squad" (or whatever its called) it crashes saying system error 48 and something about an AutoRedraw failure. i think i have tried reconfiguring the settings and it still doesnt work.
  25. please help, new pilot crash

never mind, as this was not put up on the boards until today, i got it sorted out. turned out to be a memory issue (had 30Gb of downloads floating around)
