  1. Hi guys, thought I would post a topic about my recent trip to the old Battlefields of WW1, although it was not related specifically to Airmen I thought you might be interested. I am a member of the Regimental Association of the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) - an old Lowland Scots Regiment raised in 1689 from the Covenantors (another story in itself). Although I am too young to have served, many of my ancestors served in the Regiment in the World Wars and I joined the Association to help preserve it's unique history. Sadly the Regiment was disbanded in 1968 and many of the veterans are now gone. This trip is likely the last time any organised Cameronian prescence will be seen in France & Flanders, we went with 24 members (including veterans, wives and family members - like myself) and carried the Associations Standard with us. We layed 7 wreaths at the main memorials and cemeteries where the Regiment fought in WW1 (and one from WW2), at each the standard was lowered, Binyon's Poen for the Fallen read out and a 2 minute silence held, our 2 pipers also played where appropriate. Anyway this is getting a bit long and i don't want to go on - the 2 highlights (amongst many) for me. Firstly at the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate in Ypres, we were the Honour Guard, also present were 200 !!! Belgian Officer Cadets and several Belgian and British school parties. My wee pal Jimmy laid the wreath on this special night - at 78 years old, our eldest veteran (he served in Korea, Malaya, Aden & Northern Ireland) and the Belgian Army's Pipe Major played the lament for all our fallen lads - a most emotional evening. The second highlight was for me to be allowed to lay our wreath at the Arras Memorial where many Cameronians are buried and named on the Panels of the memorial. In particular this was important to me both because of the Regiment and as my Grandfathers eldest brother, killed in 1918, is named on one of the panels to the missing (he was actually a Gordon Highlander). A very proud moment for this civy to remember our countries war dead. The Arras Memorial also contains the Arras Flying Services Memorial to the RFC/RAF missing and here are a couple of pics of that day in Arras, as you can see the weather was perfect - for October anyway.... This is me laying the Regimental Wreath at the Arras Memorial and here is the Flying Service Memorial - Mick Mannock VC is named on it.
  2. I would like to see two things : 1. Squad mates who don't shoot through you when you are on the tail of an enemy. (I've never been shot down, but seriously damaged several times) 2. Squad mates who don't attack obviously crippled aircraft falling to earth that you have shot down, and therefore stealing your kills. These things happen to me on a regular basis. I have actually had my wingman dive down on a tumbling enemy aircraft, falling for thousands of feet straight down, to get a burst in and preventing my kills. Very annoying!!
  3. Another Pilot Issue

Thanks again UA, you seem to have all the answers. i had already tried No.1 but started working again after i tried No.2 Just goes to show, you can't beat a good No.2 !
  4. I think you might have had same problem as me in finding the ground forces to shoot at. I eventually spotted them, when i say them i mean him! Often the target is a single figure on the ground, at a distance he looks like a post. Shoot up the nearby trenches they are a bigger target! I believe the Camel was used extensively for ground attack.
  5. I have a pilot that i cannot advance his time/date. Every time i try and fly a mission and comeback to base, sometimes with claims ready, it goes straight back to the base screen with the same time i have just flown on. ie my mission is never registered. Any ideas? (Using HiR with patch, never use copy disks etc.)
  6. Hi, just had the most extraordinary flight and tussle with the Flying Circus. Could tell it was them by their multi coloured Albatross scouts, 6 in one flight attacked and then 3 Halberstadts joined them. Here is my claims from that flight, now confirmed... 18/1/1917 10h43 Confirmation Received of Claim submitted on: 17/1/1917 9h38 Flanders Close Air Support Flying: Sopwith Triplane. On this day claims: 3 AlbDII . On Close Air Support we engaged a large number of enemy scouts, mainly Albatross DIIs, near Heule over enemy lines. At 10.02 i fought one all Red painted DII at between 5,000 and 2,000 feet height firing 300 rounds. He went down in flames crashing near Heule. At 10.06 i fired 40 rounds into another DII, red feuselage and green and brown wings, at 400 feet. He crashed into woods near Ingelmunster and exploded. At 10.10 i climbed up to engage a Red and Gold painted DII at 1,000 feet, firing 80 rounds. He also crashed in woods south of Ingelmunster. Witnessed by: Alex Reinard Status : Confirmed . The first was M.Richtofen, the second another Ace i didn't catch the name of and the 3rd Allmenroder. I have had long running dogfights with other lone Aces who had me sweating, strangely these 3 went down rather easily considering their names, number advantage and my poor flying. (Flight Model - Realistic / all Guns -Normal). Has anyone ever had a better series of kills than this?
  7. Thanks for the reply. I tried that but it still keeps switchng back after one mission?
  8. Hi, have recently upgraded to HiR and every time i do a mission in campaign i have to click the In Cloud Effect disabled. Yes i use the OK and Exit from the preferences, and can even go immediately back to see that the tick is still in the box. However, if i do one mission and then another straight off and then go back and check after the 2nd one it has lost its tick. How do you permanently keep it switched off?, this was not happening with BHaH and i have re-loaded the game and patches several times. Thanks, Smithy
  9. Life span of a pilot?

Thanks to Uncle Al I have figured out what the problem was. You need HiR to be able to stop the game cutting short before you hit the ground. BH&H doesn't have the tick box in Workshop to do it. So i gave in and bought HiR - all good now!
  10. Lack of 2 Seaters ?

Actually a C-type to me means a 2 Seater, not specifically an Albatross. D-Type = single seat bi-plane fighter C-Type = 2 seater E-Type = single seat mono-plane. It's from British claims notification - usually when they couldn't identify the make and model.
  11. Lack of 2 Seaters ?

As an update to this - I have advanced in time on the 1 RNAS Campaign to Oct 1916, there are now various 2 Seaters to fight and hordes of Halberstadts instead of Fokker E's.
  12. Life span of a pilot?

I am continuing to have the same problems even after re-install an it is getting frustrating. I thought it was fixed and actually tried to test it by getting shot down in a QC. In Campaign mode I will be flying along and get damaged either by fire or stress to aircraft - a wing rips off and i start going down. Before I can actually "die" by hitting the ground, the game cuts out to the report page and i survive. Settings are on Hard - Dead is Dead. I can just retire the pilot but it seems very odd, and i don't want to re-install all the time. Any suggestions. In CFS you can see your plane go all the way into the ground, and your campaign is over - has this been changed for some reason? Or am i missing some perameter?
  13. Lack of 2 Seaters ?

Yeah i have practised on QC v's 2-seaters. Stay low and fire into their bellies - or die horribly by their Observers, i have done that too. Just flew another 2 missions, about 20 EIIIs sighted, but still no C-Types ? This is from Niuewpoort on coast all the way to Arras, not a one. I shot down Boelcke, in a silver Fokker, on my last mission - he flopped down in a field behind German lines near Dicksmuide after sending one of my chums down in flames.
  14. Hi, I am doing a campaign with the RNAS in early 1916. No matter where i fly all i get is groups of Fokker E's - usually 4 to 6. There are never single Fokkers, and i have never seen any 2 seaters or other types. I have done quite a few missions, had to restart after death dozens of times, but never seen anything but those "dirty fokkers!" Any ideas?
  15. Life span of a pilot?

Only using original CDs. Just recently re-installed after an issue i was having - don't know if that is the problem. If it persists i may try another fresh re-install.
