  1. It seems to have worked. Now that I am starting to understand the file layout more, I feel like the upgrade to SF2E was more bang for my buck than I originally thought (which I originally felt was pretty good)...modding seems to be a bit easier this time around. The one thing I noticed was that there wasn't a duplicate of was the radar-guided Atoll-C.....which I was under the impression was the R-3R......there is a weapon called R-3R, but it is IR-guided and called the Atoll-B. Anyone have any ideas as to which is the proper designation for the radar-guided Atoll? I always thought the R-3R was the Atoll-C. I have a few flyable MiG-21's with this weapon so it was something I noticed. Thanks for the info on the thread by the way!
  2. One thing that bothers me is how there seem to be duplicates of certain weapons. I'm guessing this is due to the fact that the baseline game comes with some weapons already. I think I'm going to redownload Gunny's pack and clear out the weapon cache altogether thus leaving me with only weapons from Gunny's pack. Wish me luck. I'll probably screw something up attempting to do this.
  3. Any idea on how to fix the AIM-9 racks for the F-100D series in SF:E? The left rack is the correct 3D model, but the right one is incorrect...it is the same one as the left rack. I checked the data.ini and it had separate left and right racks listed for the AIM-9 positions so any idea on how I go about changing it? Is there a 3D model in the game for the right-hand rack because if so that seems like an easy fix with the weapons editor. Figured I'd ask to see if anyone else had noticed this? I tend to fly the Hun quite often so it's kinda a nagging thing for me. (On a positive note, I absolutely love the new cockpit for the post 68 model with the APR-25 RHAW gear...outstanding work by TK!
  4. Okay, so I've downloaded and installed SF2:E and its most current patch, but I cannot figure out how to add new aircraft designed for the SF2 series into the game as the file layout is very different than the older games in many ways. I searched around the forum for answer and couldn't find one, so any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!
  5. Yeah I'm finding that out as I go along. I'm taking it slow so I don't mess anything up and have to start over, but thus far I've added an AV-8B Harrier and TMF's F-4G. I have an F-5E from TMF as well, but some stuff in the cockpit is messed up so I'll probably delete it for now and maybe reattack on that later. I installed a weapons pack by Gunny I think and that seems to be working and I've managed to get the weapons editor up although I've noticed that when I click save on it, it tends to freeze (I think due to the 1800+ weapons I now have). I'm not really sure what to do about that.
  6. As always thanks for your help. I noticed after extracting all the object files that there isn't an ObjectCat005...is that normal?
  7. Okay so I'm trying to use this new extractor to get the data and loadout files for the stock aircraft and I can't seem to figure out how to get them to appear. I put the application into the actual install as was mentioned on this thread and I click on the application and it says that it's packing all of the Objectdata files...so my question is what did I do wrong? The older extractor I had no problems using, but this one seems more automated and as a result I'm not sure what I'm doing. Can anyone help me? (For example, I'd like to take the F-4D loadout file and edit it to change the default weapons loads, but I need to make that file appear first so I can open it. How do I do this?)
  8. I wouldn't put it past myself to have done that. I'm going to go back and just download some of the Mirage Factory aircraft since they generally tend to be easier to install and are all of great quality. Wish me luck.
  9. Thanks for the help. I now at least know how to get to the aircraft folders...I suppose the Windows 7 interface is changed enough to where I wasn't familiar with getting through the Start Menu now. In any case, I've downloaded an AV-8B and a Sea Harrier pack, and neither seems to come with all of the necessary files so perhaps I'm not downloading the right airplanes.
  10. Okay, again I looked around the Knowledge Base (which is truly where I originally looked before I posted the thread), and I couldn't find anything about adding an SF2 designed airplane into an SF2 game. I could find stuff about making old plans work in SF2 and vice versa, but nothing about just adding a new plane meant for SF2 series sims into SF2E. I've been around here enough to know that people tend to get mad if they don't think you've looked for an answer and I understand that, but I'm honestly saying I cannot find the answer. Granted, I've always had trouble locating things on this particular site due to the way the search engine behaves (it never seems to find what I'm searching for), but I looked and I can't find an answer. Please at least point me to a link that's more specific than just the main page of the KB. Thanks!
  11. Just bought FE 2 and I wanted to know some specific enhancements people recommend for it...namely with regards to the terrain, ground objects, etc. I started to read through the getting started guide that is stickied at the top of the forum, but I quickly realized a lot of that info is for the original FE. I realize some of it may work for FE 2, but I'm interested in what stuff is specifically designed for FE 2 that I should get. Thanks!
  12. New Laptop

So I'm in the market to get a new laptop and I'd like for it to have some gaming power if possible though I don't want to pay a completely unreasonable amount. The first and primary game I'll get for the new computer is First Eagles 2, so what recommendations do you folks have? I'm open to any and all suggestions, so what do the masses have to say? Thanks!
  13. FE2?

Will likely be getting a computer upgrade in the near future, and I really enjoy FE, but I was wondering if I should upgrade to FE2 or not. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons on the new version? What, if anything, has been improved and is it worth the investment?
  14. I've been searching around looking for some P-36/Hawk 75 skins to add to my game, and I'm having a hard time finding actual links to downloading these skins. Can anyone assist me in this matter? It would be greatly appreciated.
  15. I can probably dig through my old T-6 stuff if you are looking for anything else. I'm fairly certain I still have boldface/ops limits sheets and other T-6 related stuff in a folder somewhere in my closet. Glad I could help.
  16. The last time I flew a T-6 was in March of 2008 so I might be a bit rusty, but from my Phase II days of UPT here's what I can tell you. PCL is indeed the Power Control Lever - it's a way of combining the power and propeller levers from a traditional prop driven airplane into one. It automatically selects the apporpriate blade angle on your propeller, thus giving you optimum efficiency based on what type of power level (i.e. where you place the PCL) you are asking from the engine. An ELP is known as an Emergency Landing Pattern, and it's basically a dead stick landing, but the point of the ELP is to try and position yourself at an optimum position (actually there are several positions and they are known as "keys" - namely high key, low key, and base key) to make a safe landing with no power. You learn how to manage your energy by using things such as the gear and flaps as well as wing displacement from the runway. We practiced ELP's quite a bit in the T-6 as a matter of fact. On windy days, they are quite challenging. PMU is the power management unit. It's yet another of the many automated little whiz-bang gadgets in the T-6 that just assists the pilot in flying the airplane safely and remaining within the limits of the engine (i.e. preventing over-torque, excessive ITT, etc.) Maximum ITT the maximum Interstage Turbine Temperature. That is the maximum limit in terms of degrees celsius that the engine can go to before damage occurs and depending on the regime of flight (start-up, cruise, etc.) these limits vary. There are also certain time restrictions. From what I can remember the T-6 had a maximum ITT limit of about 1000 degrees Celsius on startup, but the limit for that was 5 seconds maybe?....something like that I think. Oh, and for informational purposes, the ITT is read from the combustion chamber which is located between the compressors and the power turbines. Np is the speed at which your propeller turns. The reduction gearbox in the front of the engine basically converts the very high speed of the compressors to a manageable speed for the prop to turn. I can't remember the T-6 prop speed, but I believe it was somewhere around 1700 rpm...just a guess though my memory of that is fairly fuzzy. N1 is the speed at which your compressors turn. It's generally around 30,000 rpm I believe, which is why the reduction gearbox is so important. No propeller could ever withstand rotations that fast. Regarding the G-limits. The difference between symmetric and asymmetric is whether or not you are rolling the airplane when you pull back on the stick. For example. If you take the stick and simply pull it directly back into your lap, the maximum positive G-limit for the T-6A is about +7.0. Conversely, if you roll while pulling back on the stick, your limit goes down to about +4.7 (from what I can remember). Asymmetric G-limits are always lower because more stress is put on the airframe and in many different places. My T-6 days were a little bit ago so I'm not 100 percent on the numbers, but the general information I gave you should answer your questions. Anyways, hope it helped you out!
  17. Just doing a poll to see which weps pack is the best one out there right now. Which one do most of you prefer? Please let me know your feelings and which one you yourself use. Thanks.
  18. I already have. It's not that I can't find a weps pack. I just want to know what others are using, and in their respective opinions find out which one they prefer.
  19. Thanks for the input. Where can I find this pack?
  20. I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you asking for the loadout.ini file?
  21. It's interesting. I was reading my Century Jets book today, and there is one full page in the F-102 section just about the weapons. It has several Falcon photos, and oddly enough mentions all the variants we seem to have agreed upon, but it still mentions the AIM-4E/F?G variants as being carried. Of course it also says the AIM-4F was IR-guided so I guess the info on that page should be taken with a grain of salt.
  22. It would seem that most of us can agree that the F-102 never carried the AIM-4E. I read somewhere there weren't even that many AIM-4E's built. Seems that it was probably quickly supplanted by the AIM-4F. Thanks for all the info gents. It's a pleasure to learn stuff like this. Sometimes you can't beat a forum for the wealth of knowledge it provides.
  23. Okay, okay Stormtrooper I'll let it die..... Just trying to tap into a potential good resource that is this site. For the record I've been all over Google trying to find answers to questions like those. If you find them, please provide me a link because many sources aren't that detailed. I have a ton of reference material on the Deuce (I even bought a Dash 1 for it...a flight manual for you non-military folks)....trust me, Google isn't as useful for some of these questions as one would think.
  24. Oh, okay. I must admit that 1973 info I got was just in passing so for it to be related to F-4's would certainly make sense. So we can assume them that the Deuce carried the AIM-26B, AIM-4A, and AIM-4D to the end of its serving days? Did Greece and Turkey also get the AIM-26B and AIM-4D? Also, anyone know what specific Falcon variants the F-101B carried?
  25. I didn't think so either, but a good question comes of this. The F-102 left the USAF inventory in 1976 (not counting drones), yet apparently the AIM-4D was retired in 1973. If both are true, then what IR-guided AAM did the F-102 use until its final retirement. Surely, they didn't fly unarmed for three years?
