  1. Its funny I used to be over at SimHQ almost everyday, but it seemed slow lately so I thought over here it might be a bit more lively. I think it was Lima33 I used to talk to all the time, as he was very helpful. I've also seen your very active here as well, so thanks for taking the time, I appreciate it. I only wish the Flight forums were as active as they used to be. Nice part is I can still get shot down almost as much as I used to ! If I redid the key map in Word, do you think it would be helpful to anyone ? Most of the ones I see are all just in either acrobat or just Jpg's, which don't seem to print very well.
  2. I looked up here and elsewhere and found a few, but they print up terrible. Is there one in Word or something that looks better ?
  3. The music is great , don't get me wrong, but it is a bit loud. Are there modified files to make it less loud? I modified the Splash drumrolls . I don't want to infringe upon copyright laws here, so If these are wrong just let me know right away. Splash.wav
  4. This looks good, and I have it installed now, just updated video card to a 1050TI 4Gb with my CORE I5 2500K 3.3G 6M with Win7 64 bit. I wonder If it would run Ok ? Right now in large formations I still notice a few stutters, but not too bad.
  5. I just updated my video card to a 1050TI 4Gb with my CORE I5 2500K 3.3G 6M R from a 560TI video card with only 1Gb. I got IL-2 1946 and I've heard it runs better with OpenGL, but when I run it seems to be stutterless with Direct3d or DirectX and stutters quite a bit especially near the ground with OpenGL. I'm not running too high only 1680 x1050 x32. Should I just run it in Direct3D or are there some changes I can make to OpenGL to make it run better?
  6. I just tried the demo of Rise of Flight, but getting the joystick right is a pain. Graphics are good too. I saw Canvas Knights here and it looked interesting even though I never heard of it. I have Over Flanders Field which isn't bad. I may try IL-2 1946, it looks like a bargain for what you get. Never heard of DCS world though. may try Flying Tigers Shadow over China. I also have Rowans BOB 2, but all the bombers flying really kills my FPS.
  7. My PC is about 7 years old CPU INTEL|CORE I5 2500K 3.3G 6M, 8Gb of System memory running Win7 64 bit but just updated to a new 4Gb 1050Ti and was wondering what Combat flight sims I could run now. I have the box version of Flanders fields and First Eagles. I was hoping to try Rise of Flight and maybe some of the IL-2 series. Also If I get them on Steam do they run slower from being online? Old simmer hoping to get back into it. Updated mostly to run Assetto Corsa better, but I did flight sims ages ago including Red Baron Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  8. Just really started to get into this, haven't really modded it at all. Last night I was flying single missions, and after the mission was done and I was left crashing into the ground I hit escape and I got what looked like a screen, but it was all garbled and looked likea lower resolution. Anyone ever run into this at all ? Strange part was I somehow reflew the mission and it worked fine again. Running at 1050 x 1680 x 32, which is my native screen resolution.
  9. OK Thanks for the rapid response. I think I'm enjoying this more than Rise of Flight. The AI is really good. Never had so much fun getting shot down. Its also nice to know I can do a deadstick landing without instantly dying when I get close to the ground. Amazing amount of bullet holes in my plane too. Those Fokkers really fokkered up my SPAD. I'm in the process now of getting everything I need to mod it up. The balloons blow up very nicely as well
  10. Yes running Windows 7 64 bit.
  11. I downloaded 4 files the first day i joined and now haven't been able to download anything for 2 days, just wondered why.
  12. I did read it, and If you notice I'm one of the people in the last part of the thread. I figured If I didn't load anything at all for a few days , I should be all set. But thanks for the link anyways, but I did read it and quite a few others as well, before I asked.
  13. Thank you to someone, it now started working again Thanks Erik !
  14. I wasn't sure what was going on, as I downloaded 4 files yesterday. Went back in today and downloaded 1 file and was told I hit my limit. This must be the 1 file a day you were talking about. BTW Erik this is really a great site. I've been over at SimHQ since Red Baron and Grand Prix legends was out. I just recently discovered First Eagles 2, and it seems just as moddable as RB was, so I have lots of catching up to do. Great site and a special thanks goes to 33Lima, as he has been most helpful , both here and over at SimHQ.
  15. Had my first scramble today, in the middle of a raging blizzard. Got my Sopwith Tripe up ok, however the wind was blowing so hard I almost wrote it off immediately. I managed to get 2 kills before I saw something off in the distance by itself. It was strangely painted all red. I managed to catch up to it while it downed one of my squad mates. I was so angry I sprayed bullets everywhere until I managed to put a few into this red aircraft. I'm pretty sure it was Von Richthofen himself, but he veered away before I had a chance to really do any real damage. It was then I actually realized who we had been attacked by. I don't know how many were lost, but what i do remember is seeing all the wrecked aircraft burning on the ground. It makes one think how fragile and frail these machines we go up in.
  16. Squadron Scramble

Isn't the top end on a SPAD around 135 mph? In level flight of course. I think my Sopwith Tripe did 168 in a dive once, but it sounded like the whole crate was about to fall to bits.I think top speed level flight with the Tripe is around 110, but seems to cruise best around 90 .
  17. Squadron Scramble

Furnes Airfield with 10 RNAS Squadron. So far its an elite squadron, figured the more aces around the better chance I'll have to survive. Just finshed a ground attack mission, got damaged then spent 10 harrowing minutes running away to my own lines. I flew over as many friendly fields as I could, but the huns filled me with many , many holes. Finally managed to land at a friendly airfield, and managed to pry my shaking sweaty hand off the joystick, and took a large breathe. As i looked into the air I could see the german aircraft that had been filling my kite with holes flying off, hoping I could get another crack at them at a much later time.
  18. Squadron Scramble

Furnes Airfield thats the one, I'll let you know the squadron tonight. Thats amazing all that info, I did read that thread you put up about it, its theres so much to take in all at once.Funny quick story, the first time I took off I noticed very little info, so I started going through that printout of all the key functions, while still flying. Well If texting and being on the phone is bad, while still on the ground driving around. Then trying to read a manual while flying a WW1 aircraft is a much worse idea. Needless to say I didn't see the trees ahead of me... or " I say dear chap, didn't notice those trees there before !" Closest thing I can think of is the German in Those Magnificent men in There Flying Machines who tries to learn from the manual as well. It is true"They go uppity up up.. and they go down diddlly down down" Indeed ! Thanks for all that info, all I need to do now is suck it all in. Still can't believe I encountered the old Baron himself, and survived to tell the tale. Well after 22 days in hospital !
  19. Squadron Scramble

Thats interesting about the fuel tank, I was flying two nights ago and had a quick mission with a DR1 and he literally shot my lower left wing off. I managed to escape and was flying back to my aerodrome when on approach the engine just stopped. needless to say I tried to make a deadstick landing, but went cartwheeling across the runway. I'll check on squadron and location, but I don't have the Hat in the ring expansion installed, but I thought it was farnh or Furnh location, but I did notice the german aircarft were vividly colored with purples and reds and greens, especially when the few I did shoot down were burning on the ground.. Bloody marvelous ! All I can say is that red aircraft could fly very well, he actually managed a barrel roll, and a pretty good hammerhead, which really through me off and he managed to get a few good shots on me as well, but I had more speed and got out quick. I put in for 3 kills, but the wingman I used for a witness was killed, so probably no kills. Lots of fun though, because I actaully knew where the enemy was for a change... everywhere !
  20. I happen to read your tip on displaying hit accuracy, so I copied it it down with a few others. I will add to this as I go along and learn more. That thing the AI aircraft do flying so slow and staying close to the ground really doesn't help in dogfighting practice, but it does teach you not to go too slow really close to the ground. I finally just kept coming in again and again and taking shots, what is it called zoom and boom, or something like that. The enemy usually sustains enough damage and just crash into the ground. I also did manage somehow to bring down a Fokker DVII by slamming into it with my landing gear, and no I wasn't trying to copy Waldo Pepper, I just got too close !
  21. Thats the thing I'm practicing in the quick missions or sorties where you pick your fights and aircraft your flying against. But then the enemy aircraft just never seem to attack very much they just make an attack and then fly just below stall speed close to the ground. They don't really mix it up much. Just to clarify though ,I haven't bought the Hat in the Ring add-on yet, so anything that was added with that I don't have yet. Sopwith Tripe is my aircraft, and I like it a lot, except for the singel gun, but that will improve my shooting... I hope !
  22. No TrackIR here, so I tried to fly without using exterior views, and promptly got shot down a lot.I'm not even sure my stick has POV, but I think it does. I got so caught up in OFF, I sort of forgot about everything. I remember using it in EAW quite a bit. I haven't ventured back to the campaign in quite awhile. Been doing the quick sorties, and trying to shoot down every German aircraft I can with my trusty Sopwith Tripe. That plane is great, except for once in awhile it just seems to snap roll for no apparent reason, especially If I get heavy handed with the controls. Only gone to veteran pilots so far , didn't enable the aces yet. But tried 2 wingamen last night and my neck hurts still from looking around so much ! Thanks muchly for the tips. Any other OFF sites I should know about?
  23. Never really had a Control Stick I could program, so you can actually put things like F4 and have a button on the Joystick configured for F4? I also changed the terrian and scenery under windows and changed them to on eof the settings precribed in the Graphics card setups for Nvidia cards and now the white triangles are gone, at least so far anyway. Only problem is now all I get is constant rain, its april and before it was sunny, so its hard to make a comparison from before to the settings I have now.
  24. Well I shut off shadows and reduced the scenery and terrain, to the point of having no trees at all, and still get the white triangles. Though I must admit, without the trees I get much smoother framerates, but surprisingly not higher framerates, still around 55 - 56. Looks like thats the best I can do, at least for now anyways. I'll have to program my stick to F4 so I can switch views ,better than hitting the actual F4 key all the time. So is the virtual cockpit view the best one for flying the plane with a forward view?. I usually keep using the chase view for the wider angle then switch back to virtual cockpit to shoot them down with. Cloudy days are murder though as I usaully can see planes or they suddenly just disappear, instead of graduallly fading away into a cloud.
