Gents, I think we have sighting of the new game...
tank03 replied to allenjb42's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Agree wholeheartedly. It's a matter of leading rather than following; and I say this as a cheapskate owner of a crap system who should have really upgraded a long time ago. -
Gents, I think we have sighting of the new game...
tank03 replied to allenjb42's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'll be getting the new title, regardless of what it may (or may not) offer. As a big fan of mud moving, I'd like to see some development of the terrain in terms of adding some life: parked a/c for strafing (which PNT has done a great job with), night-time city lights, dynamic weather, active road traffic, etc. I realize that most of these are pipe dreams given the limitations of the game engine, but I can always hope. -
How hard is the installation to Yankee Air Pirate mode
tank03 replied to jack72's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You'll have to place the files manually, but they come with very precise and easy to follow instructions. It's really just a bunch of "drag and Drop" stuff. I'd recommend a seperate install for YAP as there are so many mods. Their missions are fantastic, and the add-ons alone are worth the price. It's well worth getting. -
Can't get the bombing range mode to run..help
tank03 replied to jack72's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Only allied/nato a/c's will work with the range. There is a "Red Range" available for the soviet aircraft to practice on. -
How does everyone else organise their installs?
tank03 replied to tank03's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
What I've done so far is create the following installs: stock WOV, YAP WOV, SFP1 BoB, SFP1 WW2 Pacific, SFP1 Korea, SFP1 Israel. I do need to get an external hardrive as I have nothing backed up. If I lose all this stuff I'd literally go crazy. -

Important Poll
tank03 replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I've got WOV and SFP1. I intend to download WOE and FE, I just have to organize and clean up my hard drive before I add anything new to it or there is a good chance it will be lost under the piles of digital junk I have scattered everywhere. I'm not too excited about FE, but I figured I should support TK by buying it. -
I've been a BoSox fan since birth and I can't stand going to a game anymore (not that I can afford it anymore either). Fenway is always jammed with ditzy girls and their pathetic boyfriends who think going to a game is some kind of fashion event. The color coordinated pink hat, with the pink BoSox shirt, and the leather shoes that cost more than my car. It's baseball! Show up in a t-shirt and jeans. I'd hate to disparage my own fandom, but Boston could use a good housecleaning.

You know you have a winner of a story when it includes a carnival worker, sex in a car, and property damage. What makes this great is that it wasn't even the driver having the sex and he still crashed.

To make it a bit easier, there is a sound mod that has the flight call out the number of the a/c being targeted. This allows to ignore some of the extraneaous warnings and only respond when you hear your number. Doesn't work 100%, but it is useful. Other than that use the five D's.

Here is a great article by Andy Bush that outlines various A2G tactics for use in SFP1/WOV. They are excellent strategies for dive bombing, level delivery, and strafing. Made a HUGE difference in my stats. http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_055a.html

Starting in hangers
tank03 replied to eccles's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I think there is a mirage 2000 available, I just can't remember where. I have started off in hangers in some of the YAP missions, therefore it is possible, but the how-to is beyond me. -
I do a lot of hiking/backpacking here in NH and I've come across all manner of wildlife; bear, deer, moose, etc. None of them ever bothered me except for . . . a gaggle of geese that were blocking a back country road. I got out of the truck to shoo them away and the bastards nearly broke my legs flapping those damn wings, not to mention the biting beaks. They look delicate, but there is some heft to those birds.

A couple of weeks ago I said I found a new obsession; I acquired a '73 Honda cb350. I thought a couple hours in the garage and I'd be up and running- I must be an idiot. This is what I've had to do so far: replace fuel lines replace fuel petcock rebuild carbs rebuild front caliper rebuild master cylinder replace rectifier replace battery rewire a ton of stuff eaten by squirrels/mice (hours and hours of testing and tracking down shorts) replace rear brake switch replace points/ reset timing change oil replace plugs replace throttle cable I've gotten very familiar with eBay lately. I hope to wrap things up and be riding by early Oct. Just in time to start putting it away for the winter. I originally said I'd probably have more fun tinkering with the thing than riding it, but I didn't expect this much work. At least come the spring I'll have something to look forward to.

Yeah, it has been easy to work on. Everything is right there and it's the simplest electrical system I think I've ever come across. It's also old enough that everything is metal (not plastic) and there isn't a computer chip or digital anything to be found on it. That makes it easier as well.

How to refill
tank03 replied to wahon's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
There is no "required percentage of air targets" stats in game. The number of targets needed to be successful is determined by the game settings (easy, normal, hard). You need to check the instrument panel to check on your fuel/ammo condition. What info is available to you depends on what a/c you are flying. Yes, taking out ground targets (if I read you correctly) is difficult. With conventional "dumb" bombs you don't "lock-on", just aim correctly and hope for a hit. There is a really useful tutorial here that explains the finer points of the art of bombing with out CCIP: http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_055a.html -
How to refill
tank03 replied to wahon's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Unfortunately, the third wire sims don't have a means of re-arming during a mission. For each mission you have a finite amount of fuel and stores (using the EASY setting for fuel and weapons will give you unlimited stores however). Once they are used up you can't get anymore. Landing will not cause the aircraft to fuel up or re-arm. Landing is fairly straight forward but does require some practice. The owners manual (a copy is included in program files) has a brief primer on how to land. I hope I understood your questions correctly. Good luck and have fun. -
Battle of Britain Campaign Feedback
tank03 replied to Baltika's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Prop Heads Forum
I've finally pulled myself from the skies over Vietnam and installed the BoB campaign and it's related mods/add-ons. The result is that I'm left quite speechless; it's a completely engaging and first rate production and my hat is off to Baltika and all the others who have contributed to this. It's like having a completely new flight game. It's certainly rekindled my interest in that time period and I've found myslef pulling out all my old WW2 books to read each evening. CHeers for a job exceptionally well done. Your efforts are truly appreciated and I can't thank you enough for sharing this. -
I miss the Cold War. It was nice having a clearly defined enemy.

I think you have some clear legal recourse, not with the HOA, but with the seller and/or broker, at least here in NH you would, so I suspect you do where you are. The agent (and by extention, broker) who represented you should have disclosed that there was a HOA and acquired all the pertinent documents prior to the sale, per their fiduciary duty. If the seller didn't disclose or your agent didn't do his/her job, you can seek remedy through either or both. That's a basic tenet of Real Estate: disclose, disclose, disclose. I don't think you're going to get anywhere going up against the HOA, they've been around long enough that their rules have usually been shown to be leagally acceptable. You need to go after the seller who didn't disclose or the agent who was negligent and get damages plus from them. Good luck I hope it works out for you.

I have been given a 1973 Honda CB350. It's in OK shape (4,000 miles on it), it doesn't run yet but I've been working on that for the last few days; lots of electrical issues to fix. I've been spending every day from dawn to dusk tinkering on the thing in the garage. My wife is started to get annoyed, but I've convinced her it's a "classic" and would be worth something. Anyone know anything about this type of bike? It looks run of the mill and I'm assuming it was produced by the millions. Can't wait to get it going; I'm sure this is the start of a new (and probably expensive) obsession....er...I mean hobby.

Yeah, it a pretty basic setup so it was easy to find my way around. Fortunately it was made at a time when things could be repaired in the home garage rather than needing all kinds of specialised tools and stuff. I think I might have more fun tinkering with the thing than actually riding it. Thanks for the tip- I did manage to find a shop manual online and it's on the way.
