I really got into the Military Channel's "Tank Week" last week and I've been wanting an Armor Sim ever since. I'm looking for something along the lines of the armor equivelant of the Third Wire series (i.e. Sim lite). It looks like Steel Beast is pretty popular but seems to be a bit more involved than I want, plus I was hoping for a WW2 scenario. Anyone have any suggestions for armor sims they've owned/played?
-
Thanks for all the suggestions guys (especially streakeagle's in-depth coverage) I think I'm going to give ArmA a try. I'll let you know how it works out for me.

That's the first time I've heard that and I laughed my a$$ off.

Your Most Successful Aircraft...
tank03 replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Though the Thud was my favorite, I'd have to say I've had more success (both A2G and A2A) with the F-4. -
Here's another question for those real life pilots out there: In the real world combat, is it a common occurance to drop tanks/racks/extra ordinance? In playing the Third Wire sims I often unload that stuff in order to get the hell out of Dodge in one piece, but it seems a real waste of equipment and I was curious as to how it works out in the real world. Is it a common thing or does it only happen in rare instances? Any and all input on this topic is appreciated.

Watching him try not to laugh was almost funnier than the skits; one of the benefits of live TV. RIP Harvey! You'll truly be missed.

I didn't realise how much I missed the 80's until I bought a bunch of "Rock of the 80's" compilations a few years ago. There were so many songs that I had forgotten about, and each one brought back such great and powerful memories that it was like getting hit with a sledge hammer. They were defintily some of the best times I've ever had as well.

My family spent a good deal of the summer of 1985 on vacation at Hampton Beach, NH. I distinctly remember hearing the Tears For Fears album "Songs From the Big Chair" EVERYWHERE that summer. It was also the first summer that girls didn't have cooties, so now I can't hear the song "Shout" without thinking of sun, sand, and two girls named Kelly and Vicky that my friend and I met and hung with for the summer. Ahh, good times, good times!!!

I graduated from high school in 1988, so I'd extend your time period just a few more years (84-88). The 80's had something for everyone and some of the best tunes EVER written.

Cheers!! Hope it's a great day for you.

Siberian Sky -- moving warm front for strategic air warfare
tank03 replied to Lexx_Luthor's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
I am always deeply impressed with the level of tinkering you manage with this game engine and with your experimentation into some really "deep" aspects to the game. That you it do and share with us is greatly appreciated! -
About time is right! Kids are allowed to be a bit stupid, it's part of growing up. But for a mother to act like that is unforgivable and incomprehensible to me.

It's quite good. A lot of mello, laid back guitar tunes, with Dave's signature awesome tone.

Cat file extractor, how to?
tank03 replied to Fila's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Do you have more than one TW installation? Sometimes I get my multiple installs confused and send an extracted file to the wrong location. If the CAT extractor says it was extracted then it has to be somewhere. It should go into the Terrain>Desert folder. -
Using a text editor such as Notepad, you can edit existing missions or script your own. Though, this is a tiresome process. Fortunately, there are some third party missions editors out there that make the process much easier (and even fun). I know of KMD, found here, and Le Missioneur, found at Check6. They both work well with SPF1, WOE, WOV, but I don't know how they would work with FE or WOI. I suspect they should function OK.

Good point! I completely forgot about RR. I love the solo at the end of "Revelation (Mother Earth)".

Anyone have the Scimitar
tank03 replied to subferro's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Drop Capun an email request. He's usually pretty good about granting access. -
This would be my top ten; though it changes daily depending on my mood. I also feel that some Alvin Lee should be in there somewhere but I just can't pick out just one. 1. David Gilmour (Pink Floyd): Comfortably Numb 2. Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin): Stairway to Heaven 3. Eddie Van Halen (VH): Eruption 4. Stevie Ray Vaughan: Texas Flood 5. Jimi Hendrix: Little Wing 6. Slash (Guns 'n Roses): Sweet Child O' Mine 7. Eric Johnson: Cliffs of Dover 8. Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme): Flight of the Wounded Bumblebee 9. David Gilmour (Pink Floyd): Shine On You Crazy Diamond 10. "Keef" Richards (Rolling Stones): Sympathy for the Devil

Smoke from the engine
tank03 replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
That pic looks like contrail rather than exhaust smoke. Using Le Missioneur you can set the contrail altitude in the environment settings. -
Pet Sounds, how could I forget about Pet Sounds?? That is a fantastic album!

1. Led Zeppelin IV (from start to finish it's a perfect album) 2. Meatloaf: Bat Out of Hell (so over the top you have to love it) 3. The Who: Who's Next (kickass R n' R) 4. Pink Floyd: The Wall (what more can be said about this one?) 5. The Killers: Hot Fuss (for a pop album it's pretty good)

There is this one made in 1991: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101874/plotsummary

Just about every bar/restaurant I go to here in NH has at least a couple of micro-brews on tap, and Sam Adams is considered a must-have nearly everywhere. We've got a lot of local brewers around so I think we've been luckier than most in having a good selection on tap. We have a Budweiser brewery here in Merrimack, NH. You'd think that wouldn't be good for the little guys, but it turns out it's just the opposite. All of these tiny little brewers contract with Bud and make use of their disribution system so they can get their stuff out there without having to invest in their own system. At least that's what I've been told. As to the fish question; I can never turn down a perfectly grilled Tuna steak or salmon fillet.

I had this thing called a "System-7" that was a combination toy rifle, compass, secret decoder, detacheable spy periscope, etc. It shot little blue helicopter like things off of the front end. I played with that thing day and night when I was a kid and pretended I was a super secret government spy.
