  1. One down and a tough one next.

Yeah, I think the Giants/Dallas game is going to be interesting. A lot depends on which Eli Manning shows up for the game, but he's been playing very good ball lately. I think the Chargers have a decent chance against Indy. I'm still not sure who I'd like to end up playing; both are solid teams that can give the Pats trouble. I've thought that Favre was 4-5 years too long in this league, but I guess that goes to show what I know. I watched the Seattle/GB game at the bar in a mexican restaurant. All the mexican employees were rooting for Seattle; couldn't figure out why though.
  2. 1. I have no idea where they went, I don't know if Vista has anything to do with it. 2. The NATO mods from column5, IIRC, needs a seperate install. Easy enough to do. Just copy and paste your current install before adding the NATO mods. 3. You can install as many mods as you like, however, not all work well together(or at all). That's why it's best to have several different installs for each "theater of operation". For example, using the same stock WOE, I've got a stock WOE install, a seperate Cuba install, a sperate Libya install, etc. For more info about creating seperate installs (and many other issues)check the Knowledge Base found here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showforum=99 As to a list of mods- there are thousands of add-on planes, objects, terrains, ships, environmental mods, weapon mods, campaigns, missions, tweaks, tips, hints, etc. available for the Third Wire series of games. A good place to start is to review the knowledge base for some newbie tips and tricks, and then scroll through the download section and see what's available.
  3. I'm getting there, but I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm proficient. I don't really crash, but there's defintiely some passengers getting tossed about now and again. It's certainly getting easier though.
  4. I know what BVR stands for, but how far out can a pilot reasonable see another a/c? Lets assume it's a clear day.
  5. A Legend Dies.......

He was a true gentleman in the best sense of the word. We kind of take for granted what he accomplished becuase something like 100-200 people summit Everest a year (the world's high garbage dump), but he did it before nylon, Gortex, composite boots/poles, spectra cord, satelite images and weather forecasts, and every other modern convenience that makes climbing so easy today. And he did it for the right reasons. As a climber I have nothing but the greatest respect and admiration for the man; he will be missed.
  6. Just loaded this up and gave it a try. Fantastic mission Thanks for sharing this.
  7. What is it like on a Naval ship or sub?

Very funny!! I imagine it's less so for those who actually lived like that.
  8. Movie Lines that make great signatures...

"I love you Pumpkin. I love you Honey Bunny.....Any of you f***ing pr**ks move and I'll execute every motherf***ing last one of you!" Cue "Smashing Surfboards".

  11. The Best of 2007

Too many positive things to only pick one. For me personally, this past year has really been about getting deeper into the game engine and going beyond simply adding new planes. Rather than relying on mods created by others, I dipped a toe in modding various aspects of the game myself for the first time. Some attempts were successful, others were failures, but all were enjoyable and entertaining. Of course I couldn't have done any of it without the work of so many others who generously shared their knowledge and know-how. Hats off to all who have contributed, and to CombatACE in particular for serving as a welcoming and fun place to host all of this stuff. Here's to all of us having a great new year!
  12. For many of the same reasons I like the Thud, I really like the Hun. Besides it's performance and history, it just plain looks cool. There were some really ugly looking birds produced back then, but the F-100 just has a great, simple, powerful look to it.
  13. I think LexxLuthor's nuke effects mod is the most impressive and realistic available for the TW series. I have the "Trinity and Beyond" series on DVD and the effects are quite close to those in the film.
  14. One down and a tough one next.

That game completely threw me. I thought for sure that the Bucs were going throttle the Giants.
  15. I agree with both Sixgun and Zur. Do I want a sim that reproduces every nuance of flying a fighter? Of course not, I'm not a pilot so I wouldn't be able to fly the thing. Do I want a sim that allows me to fly as if I were a competent pilot? Yes! I'd like to think that if I were a real fighter pilot I wouldn't be putting myself into situations where I over stress the wings or otherwise engage in manuvers that were sure to damage my aircraft or lead to my early demise. Therefore, I don't really need that level of "realism" modeled in game since in reality I wouldn't be experiencing those phenomena because, as a decent pilot, I'd avoid those kinds of conditions (I hope). As Sixgun said; it's not just about the virtual a/c, but also the virtual pilot.
  16. What exactly is BVR?

Thanks for all the responses, it certainly clears things up for me.
  17. Are you ready for digital TV?

Over the holidays I spent hours in front of my brother-in-law's 73" 1080p TV w/ Bose surrond sound watching the Bourne trilogy on HD DVD. It was better than the local theater. Convinced me that I need to upgrade my old 25" picture tube TV to something new.
  18. Are you ready for digital TV?

Yeah, we had those plus three UHF channels out of Boston (Ch. 38, 56, and when the weather was good 25). 56 was the best because it showed "Creature Double Feature" every Saturday morning with all those campy japanese monsters.
  19. Are you ready for digital TV?

Since I was the youngest in the family, when I was a kid it was always my job to get up and turn the channel on the TV (seven channels to chose from) and play with the rabbit ears until we got a picture. I can remember using bits of tinfoil to try and get a better picture. I'm with you, I'm feeling old.
  20. Yes, generally the wingmen are useless. A lot depends on their skill and experience. Using the Roster option at the mission briefing you can adjust the flight roster by adding pilots with more experience/skill/ etc. In game it helps if you direct them to attack. The defualt comm key is <Tab> which then gives you a menu of options. You can send individual flights or the whole squardron to attack air targets, or ground targets. I find that unless I tell then to attack, they are just going to fly around uselessly.
  21. Perfection

    Let's try for 19-0!!
  22. Free Drinks?!

If they are going to play bumper cars with icebergs, I'm going to want to have a few cocktails in me. Actually, if no one was hurt, this incident just made a good vacation great. Think of it, if you had a normal, incident free cruise to the antartic you'd have some pictures of ice, and snow, and more ice, and few interesting stories. BUT, if you hit an iceberg your average vacation just became above average. Now you have something interesting to tell people when you get back, PLUS, you have free drinks. I can't think of too many instances where free drinks don't make things better.
  23. If You Could Be an Animal........

I'd like to be a dog, specifically my dog. He doesn't do jack squat except eat and sleep, yet everyone treats him like the king of the house.
  24. It's the .cat extractor utility, not a patch.
  25. There is a Madagascar terrian available in the download section. It should come with a README which explains how to install the terrain into the game. Additionally, there is a collection of articles here called the Knowledge Base (KB) which explains most of the questions newbies tend to ask. If you are new to SFG, WOV,WOE,FE I'd recommend speading some time browsing through the KB articles. I'm sure it will answer questions you didn't even know you had. KB here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showforum=99 Anyway, good luck and welcome.
