  1. Yeah, I've dropped nukes on an airbase, only to find a couple of vehicles destroyed and the bulk of the structures still standing. You can edit the explosive mass/ weapon yield using the Weapon Editor, though I don't know what the game engine limits are in terms of destructive power. There is also a nuc mod by Lexx Luthor that has edited both the weapon yield as well as the graphics so you really get an impressive and realistic mushroom cloud. At night it's awesome.
  2. Ah, from what I understand about flying, plowing into mountains isn't a good thing.
  3. Another option would be to use one of the mission editors and script a mission yourself. In the way you have complete control over all parameters of the mission.
  4. I believe (though I could be wrong) that the altitude control is in the Mission Data ini, which is found in the Flight folder. You may need to use the extractor if it hasn't already been extracted.
  5. Provided you are patched up I would think you could just load it normally. Have you tried and are having difficulties?
  6. Ouch!

"Inadvertent ground excursion" I love that! The guy that plows the snow in the parking lot at work is always running into things and it's my job to do the paperwork. Next time it happens I'm going to refer to it as an I.G.E. and send the report on to the insurance company. Should be good for a laugh. P.S. Before you ask, I don't know why we still employ him if he keeps hitting stuff.
  7. Sweet ride and I love the detail in the cabin. Had a little trouble getting off the ground smoothly at first, but quickly got a hold of it. It flies quite well.
  8. I'm going to respectfully disagree with you on this one. My reasoning is that, a) this isn't truly a "public" place. It's a community of people with similar interests that depends on the members being sensible and respectful in order for the community to remain vibrant and healthy. We are members, and it's in poor taste and disrespectful to "publicly" call out another member for the work he did in his attempt to contribute to the community. If you don't like it, don't use it, but certainly don't publically chastise the modder or his work. And b) what you call "bad" is usually not constructive, helpful, or delivered in the most respectful terms. Therefore it has no place in this community. As column5 pointed out, feedback with photos or other documentation is acceptable. Unfortunately, most of the negative or "bad" feedback I've read over the years has just been a bunch of conjecture and supposition with no reasonable supportive evidence. It's just a bunch of bitching. That kind of feedback is counter-productive and should have no place in this community. It's unreasoanble to expect a modder to have to "take the bad with the good" in order to contribute his works to the community. I 'd hate to think how many skilled and competent modders withhold their work because they don't wnat to have to deal with the "bad". And they shouldn't have to! This is supposed to be a community; that means we should be supportive of the work being done here, not looking to criticise every little misstep. I don't agree that one has to endure the "bad" as a matter of course simply because he wants to share his stuff. That's just disrespectful.
  9. Yeah, that's what I mean when I say that some people just don't realise that they are being jerks (or maybe they do and that's what makes them not a jerk, but a complete a$$hole)
  10. That's my question? JUst because you share something does that automatically open you up for both praise and CRITIQUE? I don't think it does, at least not in an open forum. It would seem somewhat reasonable to PM an individual and say "hey, I noticed this or that". Then the person can reply in private and say either "thanks for pointing that out", or " it is what it is, thanks but I'm not doing any more with it." Just because you share something with the community I don't think that's an invitation for evryone to pick apart your work publiclly; it's in poor taste and disrespectful.
  11. I usually follow the "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" guidelines since I typically don't know enough about the objects to notice anything amiss. Besides, I have over 200 planes on my HD that I can fly, all for free, and all due to the efforts of others in the community; what could I possibly complain about?? But it does make me wonder; what is the generally accepted feedback protocol? (and I'm talking respectful, constructive, critical feedback here, not simply bitching and whining) If you notice a problem or inaccuracy with a mod, should you say something to the creator (maybe they overlooked that one thing) or simply let it go? Use a PM or post in the forum? Is there a reasonable level of community feedback, or should you simply keep your mouth shut for everything? Should the creators include a note in the README that says whether they want feedback or not? The reason I ask is I'm starting to work on some stuff of my own and I'd want to know where I went wrong in the interests of improving my skills. I'm just curious as to where the line is (if there even is one) about when constructive feedback becomes bitching? I suspect there isn't one though, because I've noticed some people really have no idea when they are being a jerk. They THINK they are being respectful and constructive, but they just can't see that they are simply whinging.
  12. Happy Thanksgiving

Pats play Sunday night. Happy Thanksgiving to all. I hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday!
  13. I just downloaded FE (not w/ the expansion) from TW and I've been playing around a bit in the SPAD. Here's my problem; I'm getting shot out of the sky every time I go up, and I'm having a hell of a time trying to get into postion to make a shot. These planes fly like kites and I think I'm just not used to how they handle, but does anyone have any tips that could helpl me be a bit more successful? Any suggestions are appreciated.
  14. Yeah, I usually end up driving into the ground. Though one time while paying too much attention to my target I managed to fly into another A/C. It made for a nice change of pace. I don't have the patience to try and master the gunship technique so I've given up trying. I generally just use them for eye candy in my prepared missions.
  15. "And do Fence Check, Rifle and Shotgun belong in WW2? If so, what do they mean? Come to think of it, what do they mean anyway?"--NATO brevity code- google has a list I'm trying this mod out now. Thanks for the effort and I'm loving your BoB.
  16. Adding carriers is fairly easy if you do it carefully, check the knowledge base for specifics. There are a bunch of them you can download here at CA. In SF and WOE, you can only take off from them if you use a created mission (KMD/Le Missioneur), or edit a campaign. The games mission generator won't use carriers as a starting point for single missions. P.S. Any of the games bought from TW online store are already fully patched.
  17. Ouch!

In situations like that, it's best to just walk away nonchalantly and hope nobody notices. It worked when I put my fathers car through the garage when I was a kid (ok, it didn't work then either )
  18. I've not played any other flight sim since I got teh SFP1 series. Interesting note; after the first patch came out I didn't have an internet connection and therefore couldn't download it. I called Third Wire to see if I could buy a hard copy of the patch. Some guy calling himself TK answered the phone. He took my address and sent me out a hard copy of the patch; no charge and no problem. It wasn't until later, when I discovered CA and learned a bit more about the SFP1 universe that I realized that the guy who answered the phone was the guy who created the game. It says a lot about what kind of small dedicated operation TW is. I don't think you could call Microsoft and have Bill answering the phone. TK was quite understanding and accomadating, and he'll always have my support because of it.
  19. I'm completely ignorant about what this means in practical terms. Am I going to have to tweak the thousands of weapons I currently have going?
  20. Finally back

I think I'd go nuts if I had to go a month without the internet. Of course, that would leave me a lot more time to drink.
  21. That would seem more reasonable than the guy just bailing (though such a failure is unsettling). Scary to think what the poor guy thought when it happened, if that is indeed how the accident occured. I'll be quite interested in what the investigation uncovers.
  22. I don't know how the game regulates the fuel consumption. I would assume that it would be somewhere in the data.ini related to the engine entries? Another option is to edit the data.ini fuel tank info to increase the max fuel load. [FuselageFuelCell] SystemType=FUEL_TANK FuelTankID=1 MaxFuelAmount=287.6 <<<< increase this?? SelfHealing=TRUE FireSuppression=TRUE MinExtentPosition=-0.5,-1.0,0.0 MaxExtentPosition=0.5,-3.3,0.5 I don't know if that would have an effect on a/c weight, and therefore performance but it may be worth trying out.
  23. The a/c landed without issue. If he chose to bail I wonder what prompted it. The other option is a faulty eject system. Regardless, thoughts to his family.
  24. ATT...

I'm down near Eliot Hospital. It's not so much that it's not available, but we don't want all the stuff that's required to have in order to get the cable. Right now we have basic cable at $20/ month and barely watch it. Last I checked, the Comcast cable/internet package was like $60/month.
