It was the end of an era on December 4, 2014 when five of the Royal New Zealand Air Force’s (RNZAF) CT-4E Airtrainers took to the skies over Manawatu and Whanganui for a final farewell flyover today. http://www.airforce.mil.nz/about-us/news/media-releases/media-release.htm@guid=%7B9b284129-f60f-481b-8c15-5c7c0e069e8b%7D.htm

    More like 1954.
  9. The guy Clint Eastwood and Chuck Norris dream they could be: Col. Robin Olds with trademark mustache, a WWII Ace and a MIG Killer in Vietnam. 11. Finally saw Flight of the Intruders

I would say long overdue, and yes it is one of the better movies to come out of Hollywood.

  13. First US Built Super Tucano

Sorry guys, but almost all the A-10s are used up from all the sand box time in the Middle East. The AF plans on putting some of the lower timed frames (lower timed used very loosely) in mothballs, but only a handful for the just in case scenario. Stroms right to start production on an A-10 would cost as much as Superhornet probably after the initial cost of producing all the tooling that would have to be made again. The Super Tucano is meant to work in a low SAM threat area where speed is not essential. That being said I'm sure it does have some SAM threat defenses available.
  14. A Texan in New Zealand?

I'm sure you could hang some sidewinders or stingers on them.
  15. Flying car anyone

All set, in order to get the man to proof this for the road will be an epic price. Not to mention if you get tapped or take it over the wrong side of the hedge its not going to be Cletus your local autobody guy who fixes it up. It will have to be an A&P certified mechanic.

This is a cool video, would rather it not have any music though.
  22. Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) planes have completed their first operational missions over Iraq as part of a US-led coalition against Islamic State (IS) militants. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-10-02/royal-australian-air-force-planes-complete-first-missions-over-/5784352
  23. A detachment of USMC strike fighters from VMFA-531 The Grey Ghosts operating the F-4B Phantom II on board the USS Forrestal for her Med. cruise, were temporarily assigned to RN HMS ARK Royal during the months of February & March of 1973. With their few weeks of combined ops with the Royal Navy coming to an end and the Ark Royal due to port in Malta (where USN personnel where not welcome) one of the Phantoms had a mechanical issue that couldn't be fixed and readied to depart with the rest of the Marines. So the British Navy crew told the Marines we'll take care of her and keep her safe. So they tucked her away in the lower hanger deck while the Ark Royal crew had leave in Malta. Once the Ark Royal was under way USMC personnel returned to work on the Phantom and bring her back to the Forrestal. The Squadron members of RN Fighter Squadron 892 who also operated the Phantom, had painted their squadron markings on the Marine Corps' Phantom. Those silly limeys.
  24. RN/USMC F-4K?

I like this pic. The RN Phantom's had the Spey engines which had more dry thrust, which they needed for the work around the smaller decks of Her Majesty's Ships.
