  1. L5 Series

It seems a bit like the AC Clarke 'Rama' books in concept. I'm not much of a sci-fi movie fan, I can't suspend my disbelief when most of it is written by people who have no understanding whatsoever of physics. But that looks promising, thanks for the heads up Silverbolt
  2. Is there any way to prevent the ill-disciplined suicidal AI lunatics from wandering off all over Vietnam and conducting their own private war ? Apart from issuing the 'return to formation' command every 2.5 seconds that is.... Do they use ECM ? if they don't then I'll load them up with more ordnance if a pod is taking up a station which could be used for bombs or rockets Is there a way to shut them up a little on the radio ? or make their radio calls more useful ? Cries of " SAM Launch ! SAM Launch ! " are useless without any further information, it just means that somewhere in North Vietnam an SA-2 became airborne, which is pretty much situation normal. Tell me something I don't already know
  3. NEW rifle

Thanks Sorry I can't help you out with cheap ammo sources, I live in England, believe it or not.....( although probably not for much longer with a bit of luck )
  4. Dear Mr Gadaffi

Like when they sent a massive humanitarian taskforce to assist in the aftermath of the Asian tsunami ? The Yanks had boots on the ground within about 48 hours IIRC. The UN finally turned up days and days later, after they had held a lot of meetings and talked a lot of hot air. I know who I would prefer as a friend given the choice of the US or the UN.... There's a saying we used to use when I was a biker :- " When we do right no-one remembers, when we do wrong no-one forgets " You could also apply that to the USA
  5. Dear Mr Gadaffi

Don't be so stupid. The US didn't attack Libya for 'political bulls**t' it attacked Libya once ( El Dorado Canyon ) because it was exporting terrorism and Ghadaffy Duck needed to be taught a lesson. How do you think the Arab world would react to US planes over Libya right now ? It would make things a lot, lot worse not better. Where is the Egyptian airforce ? Why can't Arabs help other Arabs ? How about Turkey ? Where is the Brazilian airforce ? why don't YOUR guys sort it all out if it matters so much to you. People like you make me sick. Half of the time you are saying " Who the hell do the Americans think they are, interfering in world politics ? " and then you conveniently flip and say " Why aren't the US intervening , they don't care " No matter what happens it's always going to be America's fault in the eyes of people like you.
  6. NEW rifle

I'd like a Galil, but then I admire the IDF quite a lot....
  7. Need your votes Please

Voted Good for him, wish I'd had someone to teach me about firearms and hunting when I was his age. He's one lucky kid
  8. NEW rifle

Saiga I modified it with a SAW grip, Galil style handguards and sights from a HK G3
  9. NEW rifle

Say hello to my little friend
  10. NEW rifle

You don't mess around do you ? choosing a 7.62 battle rifle for your first firearm Much respect
  11. I find them OK on CAS missions too - I think it's because there usually aren't too many enemy air defence assets around to provide a distraction for them. I've got a feeling that any time they are illuminated by a fire control radar then they are programmed to react aggressively in self defence. I always arm them with default Thirdwire ordnance and they do OK with it, assuming I can stop them going 20 nautical miles off course to have a one sided strafing duel with a flak trap " I'm taking damage, I'm taking damage ! " - well you got yourself into it buddy, so you can get yourself out of it
  12. Thanks for that Wrench - we posted at the same time. I like your method better than the one I used - less chance of messing things up that way....
  13. Yep you were right, cheers I did it this way, and it worked fine :- Extract Huddata.ini from Flightdata CAT file in Flight folder of main installation Move Huddata.ini to Flight folder in mod directory Edit Huddata.ini Catpack is a great little utility - when you read the instructions
  14. Yep, I'm pretty sure that's what I did. Unintentionally though ( didn't RTFM, as usual ) I might have to ask which cat file contains huddata.ini, but I'll look for myself first.....
  15. What's the procedure for extracting the huddata.ini file in SF2 ? I downloaded Catpack and cleverly managed to screw up my installation, which now CTD's Oh well, at least I'm not using up one of a limited number number of reactivations when I reinstall. Well done Thirdwire for that.
  16. This is what happens when you start looking for bonus targets after you have fulfilled your mission requirement..... The F-4 isn't much fun to fly without a vertical stabilizer. I got back over into friendly territory, but didn't survive the ejection. I'm good, but I'm not good enough to land an F-4 in that condition... Don't forget - one pass, haul ass
  17. I love those spectacular Cold War 'what ifs' and 'never quite happeneds' - the F-103 certainly qualifies. What a great job. I sometimes wonder if the model designers of Thunderbirds were stealing ideas from secret aircraft projects or if it was the other way round
  18. I like ground to air mostly, Weaselling in particular, so I'm usually avoiding Migs unless I have a very clear advantage and can get a quick kill. But a gun pod is always nice to have if I can find room for it. The rules I have for missile engagements are :- 1) Fire only in optimum range bracket 2) Centre the dot and unload any G off your aircraft first 3) Don't waste a 'Winder on a target who is turning at all hard, the missile won't hack it.Try and catch him as he reverses his turn. I do enjoy a guns kill, but it can get you target fixated. I don't mean flying into the ground fixated, but it takes time to set up and execute and while doing that you are probably using a lot of burner ( depleting your fuel ) and not looking at the wider picture.
  19. Americas hardest Prison

There is a weird fascination with truly bad people, and I suppose they are just catering to that. Look at all the movies, documentaries and books on serial killers for instance. Not really my kind of TV, individuals like that don't impress me either.
  20. I don't regret recently buying SF2:Vietnam and I've always liked the F-4 in WoE\WoV There isn't anything it does particularly well, but it can do everything you ask of it, if you ask it right ( does that make any sense at all ? ) My personal favourite is the Thud though. It can't do much of anything except go really fast down in the weeds but I love it all the same.
  21. New User of Falcon 4

OF - Unstable, delivers terrible FPS considering the graphics displayed on screen, avionics require a thorough understanding of the Block 50\52 MLU manual. Not a good choice if you want to just kick ass and take names without reading 400 pages of real world flight manual first. I did - I actually like that hardcore stuff but even I got bored with it after a while due to CTD's FF - Delivers mediocre FPS, campaign mode very unstable. It's still Falcon 4.0. The extra aircraft included all have awful looking cockpits ( and lets face it, that's the view we see most of the time - instead of making 20 crap cockpits, why not concentrate on doing just a few that look right ? ) - the manual is quite funny though. It's full of clip art images of corny cartoons. A lot of it is written by some arrogant dick who refers to himself as " Aragorn " and thinks the sun shines out of his arse. AF - I don't know, I gave up with the first two. It's rumoured to be the most stable, but quite frankly I can't be bothered to find out.
  22. joey

Jump away, my Irish friend My missis has good taste and mildly bad taste. She wouldn't watch Friends, or Sex and the City ( that's the one with the woman with a face like a horse, right ? ) But she does like CSi:Wherever and Crime Scene Navy Crime ( or whatever the hell it's called ) - that I can just about stomach in VERY small doses. Her worst affliction used to be Buffy:The Vampire Slayer which drove me nuts. I wanted to slaughter the entire cast, beginning with 'Willow' - that drippy hippy. We can compromise on Sons Of Anarchy, we both spent a long time in that sort of biker world in real life, so at least we are laughing at the same things when it gets ridiculous ( which it does, frequently )
  23. joey

I'd like to take a baseball bat to his head, but then that goes for all the rest of them as well
  24. USMC Korean Air War Night Fighters

I was intrigued by Korean War night fighters after you mentioned you had written a paper on them, and I downloaded a book on the F3-D Skynight. ( I sometimes work with 3D CAD for my job and I'm thinking of maybe using my 'skills' to build a cockpit for a Thirdwire aircraft. Or trying to..... Something unusual because all the 60's and 70's planes seem to have excellent cockpits already ) What made me laugh though when I got to the cockpit layout of the F3-D is that amongst all the flight instruments and controls for weapons and radar it also had a built in cigarette lighter and ashtray Truly a different age
  25. An Interview with LouG

    Thanks a lot
