How will you fly OFF 2 when you first get it?
RamblingSid replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yup, rjw, Free flight mode only. Don't want to spoil the fun. Based on what I know (thanks to the community here) abt P3, the tweaking etc shouldn't take that long: a few flips should suffice. Famous last words... -

+1, Javito, but I don't think my alter ego would last as long as Lewis to make it to SEs. -

Interesting question, initially I suppose I will be tooing and froing between workshop and QC, adjusting settings and tweaking to get OFF2 running right. This bit, I find, can be great fun. Then it will be into campaigns sans aids same as P3. Usually only fly RFC/RAF scout/2 seater. Have flown a couple of German careers mainly because I really like the EV/VIII. Will definitely fly this type in OFF2. Many more possibilities - Morane missions over the Somme for one Not anticipating h/ware probs but will upgrade if needed. -

Great stuff, Devs. OFF2 fair set to be...well, mind-blowing. Terrains look superb. Much more "integrated" than P3. Looking forward to the new FMs. What a sim it will be -

Thanks DonL, for this great story. To find 20 is just stunning. Hope the farmer makes a pile. Cheers -

Superb shot, no more bellyaching from me. The light values seem much more realistic than P3. The reflection from the cowling is a very nice touch. Where do I send the food parcel ? You blokes better like vegemite. -

Completely agree, Hellshade. And as Olham mentioned, let CLOD be a warning against a hasty release. Quite happy with P3 at the moment. Have it running the best it has ever been. Find something to admire every time. But then these dashed OFF2 screenshots come along... Some, I hope, good humoured chaffing is only to be expected. . -

Beautiful pictures, Its the whole aesthetic that's got me. (+1 Wayfarer's comment). The transformation of the terrain alone... I did note, with a slight sinking of the heart, Winder's words "...we will show minor damage states in time..." (my emphasis). Oh dear, I do hope that doesn't mean what I think it does. Not to worry, plenty of juice left in P3 . -
Hi W1ndy, to be fair I think OFF2 goes beyond overall tweaks and improvements. That is why, I believe, it was decided to call it OFF2 rather than Phase 4. Yes, I believe all Phase 3 content is included, but massively overhauled. My understanding (somebody please correct me if I'm wrong)is that OFF2 will include improved/new: AI FM DM Planes Terrains Cockpits Skins Amongst other features. There will be Gothas and Zeps so I suppose there will be at least 1 new Campaign. Hth Cheers

Novel Idea: Thoughts and Opinions Welcomed
RamblingSid replied to CaptSopwith's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
CaptSopwith, bloody good, a very enjoyable read Some, I hope, constructive remarks: i) Your story begins in media res, don't forget to create a rapport between reader and protagonist. Who is this Will Dearing person and why should we care ? ii) Please look at the syntax of some of your sentences,eg '...His flight suit, heavily laden with wool...'. I like the effect you have created - layering details - but "laden" doesn't quite convey the meaning I think you are striving for. Also consider using simple sentences w/o subordinate clauses in these kinds of passages. iii) Watch out for solecisms. As well as the eg Lou found, a British pilot would not have said "turn on a dime", he would have said 'turn on a sixpence'. And was there a "met Office" in 1916 in the RNAS ? iv) Structure: Separation, Initiation, Return, is a pretty good starting point. Have you read Campbell's The Hero With A Thousand Faces ? Apologies if this seems just nit-picking but little things can make an enormous difference. Please do keep it up, you have a reader here. Cheers -
Oh, I do agree, Salvo2, let's avoid a CLOD. I was bleeding born here m8 . Fingers crossed on patches. And here (now) I can sup a real beer as well as a virtual, so, cheers.

Hey Salvo2, so long as it's sometime soon... I'm biased towards a download because that means we in the antipodes and other likewise "remote" places may get our hot little hands on OFF2 at the same time as the blokes in Europe and the US. Mind you, there is an upside: by the time the disc wends its way down here all the wrinkles will have been ironed out by you guys...so, thanks in advance . Not that there will be "wrinkles", obviously. (cough). Cheers

WW1 Top Gun: Revealed (UK Viewers?)
RamblingSid replied to Polovski's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hi all, if you are interested there is an informative discussion on this prog over at the Great War Forum. Some of the contributors and advisors to the film are involved. It was, apparantly to focus more on the army cooperation role of the RFC rather than fighter development etc. But the whim of TV producers intervened. (my paraphrase) I haven't seen the film (and it is unlikely that I will here in australia ) but it looks as though a very good film ended up on the cutting room floor - or whatever the digital equivalent is. I detest TV sometimes. -
W1ndy, BHH is pretty damn good. Do advise you go the HiTR . You do get a substantially improved sim. Be prepared to wait a few weeks for the BHH disc to arrive btw. It took abt 3 weeks or so to get here, but it may be better for you in NZ. It takes a bit of tweaking to run really well. Nothing major and all covered in this forum. I don't know what your rig is but OFF needs a "fast" (2.8 and more) CPU and alot of RAM. I am definitely no expert so have a ferret around all the threads, a mine of info in here. The Flanders Fields website has essential info abt system reqs, so go there first if in doubt. Pims it is... Cheers

Hi W1ndy, welcome to the wonderful world of OFF, you will have enormous fun. To your questions: To some extent the answer depends on the release date of OFF2. Proverbially it is in "2 weeks" time, this has been the case since about the middle of last year. In other words, we don't know when the release will be, alhough it is expected to be in the (northern) summer or possibly spring 2012. There has been much speculation on this, please see some of the OFF2 discussion threads. So given that OFF2 may be up to 5 months away I would advise purchasing OFF BHH up to HiTR. Cheap as chips at the moment and imo outstanding bang for your buck. It seems likely that OFF2 will be available as a download, although I am not certain of this. Others more knowledgable here will be able to confirm. Whether OFF2 is download or disc, it will not run with previous versions present. You will have uninstall OFF Phase 2 and 3 when the time comes. Hth. Oh, and new blokes buy the drinks. Cheers

OFF2 DEVELOPMENT Screenshot - Fokker Dr.I needing to land soon...
RamblingSid replied to Polovski's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Arrrgghh, no, more OFF2 pron...and I promised the vicar. Beautiful plumage, chaps, lovely set of spars . Pity that that's what my a/c usually looks like after tangling with DR 1s (sigh). +1 Hellshade's comments re terrain. Quando, quando, quando, quaando -

Hi Lima, I use a Saitek Cyborg Evo Force stick and it definitely does shudder, quite violently sometimes, near stall. Apart from the obvious avoidance of stall, it's very useful. Comparatively vigorous movements of the controls are needed to get the a/c to respond, is this what you mean by "mushy" ? Don't know if this is down to force feedback. (Pity that force feedback sticks are, apparently, unprocurable these days in australia ) I think an optional stall warning message/light is a good idea. Not a stall sound though - Polovski's points.

Sounds like a good idea to me I'm in.

Anybody else get these great gurning faces in the sky ? Actually, I hope like hell somebody has them. And...will they be there in P4

A doctor writes: Here we see the typical symptoms of OFF2 Deprivation Syndrome as they manifest in the florid stage of the derangement. Common characteristics are entreaties and propitiatory acts towards imaginary beings called "Devs" to whom the sufferers attribute semi-divine powers. In terms of eschatology, patients all look to the imminent arrival of OFF2 to usher in an era of unprecedented contentment shooting the enemy to pieces. As a palliative I would prescribe a course of P3 for the early stages of the condition, but nothing can done for the poor sods posting here. Nurse, the screens !

Is P4 getting a sound overhaul?
RamblingSid replied to redpiano's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Would have thought that the sound of the engine + vibration+wind would have blotted out any other sound except close bursts of archie and mgs right on top of you ? If we are talking realism. That said I find P3 sound to be ok. Certainly good enough to induce that willing suspension of disbelief which immersion requires. Cheers -
A Newbie's Experience of Phase 3
RamblingSid replied to CaptSopwith's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Oh god, I too have a white silk scarf... There is a large fan... I have on occassion... I am 58, is there any hope ? :no2: -
I can but agree, Polovski, it was a light-hearted post but the query was sincere. Thought one of the old hands could clear it up: "clot, its such and such..." sort of thing. Never meant to spoil anything for anyone. If I have, sincere apologies, I can only hope you expunge it from your minds. My experience is that enjoyment/immersion in OFF is undiminished. For me they are a reminder that I am in OFF world and Anything Can Happen. Cheers
