  1. Final Offensive

Its been my experience that it is NEVER too late to turn things around. I went into the Marines when I was 18. After 2 1/2 years there, I switched over to the Navy. By then, I was drinking hard myself, smoking a LOT of pot, and getting into speed and LSD. When I got out back in 84, I hooked up with my second wife who was alcoholic which didn't help my own drinking issue. Later on when things went south with her I started a 5 year meth habit that wound up costing me my wife, home, and career in land surveying. Going thru a vicious cycle of 3 and 4 day tweeks and one or two day crashes doesn't do a thing for your relationships or your sanity. Finally, coming home from a 4 day bender exhausted, I began to hear voices that sounded a lot like the voices of my friends. Trying to escape them, I fled the house in tears. At one point, after dark, I walked slowly across Friars Rd. after dark, looking straight across the road at a sign, not looking left or right, not caring if I was hit by a car or not. I found myself under a highway bridge talking to the voices as the sun come up. I finally made my way home and fell asleep...for a full day. I realized when I woke that I was in serious trouble and needed to do something NOW. So I quit the meth cold turkey but found myself a few weeks later on a dark beach tweeking again. I looked out to sea and at the sky and all I saw was a dark world, no stars, no moon, and no hope. As I watched, a single star became visible. I began to pray...Jesus, you are like that star to me. You are the only light in a world surrounding me in darkness and despair. Please save my life before I die. I humbled myself before the God of this universe and told him he was my only hope. That I knew there was no one else who could help. I asked him to forgive me for all the foolish things I had done and to help me to get free of all my chains. A few days later I was visited by the preacher of my mothers' church. I did not ask him, Jesus arranged it all! The rest is history. I have been free of my drugs, with the exception of tobacco, since 1993. March 1st, 1998 I will have been completly tobacco free! Now the Lord is working on my character, teaching me how to give of myself to others, to be patient, and to give up idols like sex, money, and anything else that comes first before God. He will prevail because his power knows no limits, and my eyes are ever on him. He ask only that I repent of my evil ways, to obey his few commandments, and to seek him. Ive never asked to be rich, but I have a home now, a third wife who actually loves and adores me, a job as a detention officer where I can tell others what God has done for me. We are selling the house soon now and I am quitting the jail. We will probably wind back up in California or maybe move somewhere else in Montana. But Im not afraid. God has been with me now all these years. He will be with you too if you give him the chance. Jesus died to give us a way back to God, he is the way, the truth, and the light. You haven't committed a sin he cant forgive unless you reject him. If he can create this world, he can re-create you too. I encourage you to look up a Seventh Day Adventist minister in your town. There is also the link in my sig for a start. When you have tried everything you can think of to get your life straight, then give God a try. That will be a witness that will leave you breathless. You are in my prayers James. Down the Dark Road Drugs and sex and rock n' roll with a lot of alcohol thrown in. Lying, cussin' and fighting, thats the way my lifes'been... walkin down the dark road. A good wife home alone sobbing in our bed. Her husbands' out on the street and not with her instead... we're slippin'down the dark road. A little bag of crystal meth and some reefer in my hand, lonely times on a beach crying in the sand... I'm speeding down the dark road. I'm sad, lonely, and shedding tears, my mind now is not so quick. Caused by satans'fog in my head so dead cold & evil & thick... Nothin'but fear and death Bro', racing down the dark road. I've lost a job & lost a house & lost my beautiful wife too. I was even fixin'to lose my soul till "HALLELUEAH!!!"Jesus'love came thru... There's a lite shinin'down the dark road. He held down his hand to me this man from calvary. He picked me up and cleaned me off then said,"Jeff follow me..." No more goin'down the dark road. There was such a huge burden and guilt more than I could bare. But Jesus took it all away just because he cares... He's done an awful lot for me, I ride now for a different brand. an I'm mighty proud to say it out loud that"JESUS IS MY FRIEND!" A victorys'been won...down the dark road. (written to honor my friend...and to say thank you...jbg) 7\93

    WOW!
  3. Thirdwire Download problem

You might try posting in the thirdwire forums. TK is often on there. They even have a Tech support forum there. Just explain what you said here and see what transpires. TK has always been pretty good about helping in matters like this. Sounds like youve got some issue with that harddrive for sure. If you have it, you might try connecting it to another Mobo/computer. It could simply be the interface has went bad on that one.
  4. That was just plain fun. Definately "alternative history"...lol. "For the one legged hooker in town thats eggs frequents...you know, the one with the 5 oclock shadow."
  5. I tend to think you do the vast majority of the work to get these birds flying in SF2. I have never minded a few issues with a plane. If I cant fix them, someone usually does. So I say release when you are ready freddy, I'll download it.
  6. I guess I could have clarified my question a bit...we have a very old PFU mod I believe, here at combatace or perhaps it was at Capuns, though it may not be up to sf2 standards. Im not sure as I havent used this aircraft in ages. I was curious how your mod is different from that one. Is this bringing the old mod up to sf2 standards? Just curious is all.
  7. Im curious, whats different about it. Tell us a little more about what you've done.

  9. SF2 P-80 Shooting Star, World War 2: 1946 Mod

Works outstanding in my PTO install. Thanks for the effort wrench, much appreciated!
  10. Stresstest!

Awwwww! Ya beat me too it! I just saw this on yahoo and laughed my butt off. Not sure how to say all that in German...;)
  11. Im making a new campaign, this time using the Philippines map, the USS Essex CV-9, and late war aircraft. Ive got the campaign to show and start. However, I want my planes to take off from the carrier, which I have been unable to do. The carrier works in a single mission, I can add it into the philippines map with the scenario editor. But I only seem to start in the campaign at one of the land bases. And even that is wierd. The two planes in my flight start in the exact same spot, actually INSIDE each other and pointed not down the runway but towrds the base itself. Maybe you guys can figure this out? Ive looked over the knowledge base but havent found anything that remedies this yet. Here is the _DATA.ini... 12. I did have your update but apparently when I used starys' update it changed a few things. I reinstalled your update and the planes line up nicely now. But a new problem has presented itself...Now the Philippines dont show up in single missions! I have the terrain for my campaign but not single missions. Any ideas? I do not have the SF2NA addon. Ive resisted gving TK another $30 when I've heard people question whether we will have continued support or not.
  13. Anyone else having a probelem with aircraft facing on the philippines map?
  14. Well, It looks like right now my only issues are the land based units starting on thier bases on the Philippines map. Ive gotten the carriers to finally work properly. Take a look at the images above and youll see how the planes are starting; inside each other and pointeed the wrong way on the airstrip.
  15. Hello fellas, thank you for the replies. I do not have SF2NA. This is everything else patched to latest levels though, including SF2, 2E, 2V, 2I, and both expansion packs. Jonathan, I tried your suggestion and no luck. It works better using the older scripts. Are naval maps and their callouts even needed if my install doesnt have SF2NA?
  16. Ok, found out that the TaskForce 77 base areas are not working properly. I switched to the taskforce 38 base areas and I can now take off from a carrier. Still would like to find the problem with the land bases.
  17. Yep, checked every airfield/target and they were correctly numbered; both desert_airfield*.ini and Target[001].Type=Runway* matching numbers. On the other front, I did find in checking another campaign that the squadrons had to have CarrierBased=TRUE CarrierNumber=1 This then allowed me to start on the carrier, or so I thought. This was the result. Wasnt this discussed awhile back? Something to do with the water bmp? Anyway, so far I have tried two different BaseArea and no luck yet. Oh, this pic shows what Im experiancing on landbases.
  18. Thank you for the reply Kevin. Heres the water bmp that came with the terrain. This is Edwards old philippines terrain updated by you I believe it was. The rest I will look at right now and let you know. Eidt: checked and found that whether I fly a single mission or a campaign mission, the planes start inside of each other facing the wrong way on the field. I have started at two fields, tacloban and dulag, both the only friendly fields according to the planning maps, and both have this issue. Still unable to start on a cv. I did adjust the base size to small. Yeah, the ichiki detachment is left over from the solomons campaign I did a few weeks ago. I simply used that data.ini as the basis for this campaign and some things I havent changed.
  19. MAN! THAT was KEWL! It was a simple mission with me flying the A-10A from Sukhumi. The base is setup with both gunnery and missile defence. I have several trucks setup near the main tower for refuel and rearm. Approaching the base from approx. 20KMs away is a T-55 tank company. Also at a certain time a Russian helo appears in support of the tanks. I knocked out 4 tanks when the helo shows up and starts lobbing ATGMs at me. I use the terrain to get behind this beggar because he can outturn me. Fired one heat seeker at him at extreme range but it didnt make it to him. I watched it thinking it would hit but just before impact it falls from the sky! I fire another at closer range but apparently he managed to dodge it. Then I try my gun on him and get a hit in my first pass that takes off one of his weapons pylons. So now he is damaged and Im mostly outta ammo. I make a beeline for the base, passing over the survivors of the tank company. I make a quick firing pass at them with my gun getting some hits and then back to base where I make a very hot landing and taxi to the rearming area. Killing my engines I order fuel and ammo to go. While I am waiting, I hear the sounds of gunfire so switch to F7 view and watch at the T-55s start firing at my M163 vulcan defending the base. Fortunately, their aim is baaaaaaaad. Also in the meantime I see the helo come over the base. As he does so he takes a stinger from my avenger SAM. This brings him down to a rough landing near the base and I am rewarded with a message telling me he is destroyed though he is still just sitting out there just off the base. The tanks are drawing closer to the base so I do a quick taxi and takeoff and re-engage the T-55s. 3 maveriks, a gun pass, and a CBU-97 and they are finally toast. On the way home I fire the last Mav at the helo sitting on the ground and score a hit. Hope the crew wasnt in it... So now I finally land, taxi to parking and shut her down. Man that was cool! On exiting the mission of course DCS crashes so no track for you all. I really wanted to keep that one, woulda been cool. Oh well, gotta try that one again.
  20. LOL! Yeah, guess Ive been playing the dauntlass lately in IL2 and its had its influence... ;) Actually, my level bombing pretty much sucked even with the visual que in the HUD. Soooooo. I tried this old fashioned method out and it worked pretty good. Chopped throttle, popped the airbrake and over I went. Dropped that CBU right in the middle of em. Later on I watched the A-10 weapons video I had downloaded and saw exactly how to use the HUD properly. Now level bombing has vastly improved. It didnt hurt to actually RTFM either...
  21. Women in Combat Units

Yep, I agree, there are men who dont perform at that level, always has been. But again, I think we'll agree to disagree on the main topic. Women as a whole, in my experiance and opinion, do not perform physically at the level men do and should not as a rule be allowed into combat units if for no other reason than that. Whether I like it or not, they are being given the opportunity to demonstrate what they can do which I agree is important. But just like I understand I can no longer function at that level due to being older, or someone recognizes they would never make a good pilot because of poor vision; whatever the reality of a given situation, the reality in this situation is that women are the weaker sex no matter how we spin it. And it probably wouldnt hurt if they recognize that. That does not make them wrong or less able to perform other jobs and functions. Men have recognized thier limitations for centuries. You stated you recognized you couldnt perform at that level so stayed out of military service. That is seeing reality and there is nothing wrong with that. You went on to function no doubt more than adaquately in some other field. Look, I appreciate your viewpoint and to say it honestly, it has given me something to think about. I like to think that that is what people do, they discuss things. The old saying two heads are better than one always applies. And issues like this require we all think about it and add our thoughts. And Jonathan, thank you for the apology, I appreciate that too.
  22. Women in Combat Units

Beg to differ but they have been given that chance and ARE being given that chance even as we speak. The women I presume you are talking about in Sweden and Israel and the US are being given that chance right now. Tens of thousands of them here in the US. Read the article supgen has listed. Women have been given the chance for about 20 years now. Dont want to argue man but that anecdotal evidence both he and I posted is from experiance. Youve not been in the military. Youve not handled the gear and terrain we have as you yourself admitted. How is it you know that women can handle this level of physical activity? Youve seen pictures of women with large rucks on? Been to a base and actually experianced a 20 mile hike? I can tell you from experiance they as a rule cant. Again, sure there may be exceptions. I would dare say that as long as a woman CAN perform at that level then perhaps she could be allowed to become part of the unit. (Theres your concession) However, I challenge you to read the article posted above by a woman who has the experiance. So what if the Israelis and Sweden have women in the military, we do too. That doesnt mean they can perform at the level. Ive seen women with 90 pound rucks on. I walked among and with them. I can guarentee you they will struggle to make that 20 mile hike with that pack. Most of them will wind up in the back of a truck complaining of blisters and sore muscles, etc. etc. The handful that dont wind up in the truck will be over an hour behind the rest of the formation. A company that spread out is vulnerable to attack. Unit cohesion is disrupted. Command and control will be vastly complicated. Im sorry, men have those issues too but nearly all of them will finish the hike in a timely manner, Tell supgen again that a 5'4" 120 pound woman can carry the gear he did. Then again, what will the long term effects be on a female who carries this kind of weight over time? The experiance supgen, myself, and the Marine capt. in that article have had shows this issue with physical ability to be real. That, coupled with the other problems mentioned in this thread demonstrate that there are obsticals to the employment of women in combat units, bottom line. As vitally important as civil rights are in America, they are not the holy grail, common sense should be. You can still recognize everyones' rights and still demonstrate common sense.
  23. Women in Combat Units

You said it better than I did supgen. I got to talking with my wife today about this subject and she was blunt, "women have no place at the front!" lol!!! I had never talked with her about this before. It'll be interesting to see how they do carrying all the gear a airborne trooper carries in combat too. I read one article and the fellow talking had jumped at Normandy and said he had 135 lbs of gear. You show me the woman who can lug that, lol.
