  1. Bletchley's AA Mod

Also, modding extends the shelf life of a game... CFS3, IL2, Skyrim, etc.. Creating and testing mods is almost as fun as playing the sim. Just wish there was an equivalent of a "creation kit" for OFF2 so that modding can be a bit simpler for the common folk.
  2. OFF P3 continues to amaze

Also, along with these helpful suggestions I also set my nvidia control panel to AFx16, 8xcsaa to get nice shading effects without any drop in FPS. The planes look more "3D" with the improved shading.
  3. Help needed......

Two things that come to mind: 1. When you have finished selecting the options in the overrides, you need to click "ok" at the bottom of the window then select file->exit to close the configuration menu. This way the changes should stick. 2. In the workshop there is a selection to the left which allows you to disable the intro movie which should be selected.
  4. Help needed......

please explain specifically which settings don't work?
  5. HiTR questions

All boils down to which flight sim you'd support. So, in the future if you ever consider OFF as your favorite WW1 sim (which I definately do), then even if there is minimal extra content in HiTR, the idea of buying addons, expansions gift DVDs and such will contribute to helping support the game developers - money talks.
  6. HPW's FM werks

Thanks for the updated FM of the DR1. You mention other updates to some other planes in your initial post, but I can't see any new downloads for them even in the downloads section.
  7. Which GTX 580 3072mb?

A few months ago, I had a 6970 and replaced it with the MSI 580GTX 1.5 overclocked. Also, I replaced my i5 760 with the i5 2500K. A comparison with these changes in OFF 5-5-2-2-5 for the 6970, i5 760 to get 60FPS 5-5-4-3-5 for the 580GTX, i5 2500K to get 60FPS The game looked about the same, but stuttered like crazy when trying to render landscapes with the 6970. Also, I played skyrim with both cards with about a 15FPS difference between the cards and same stuttering issue. I feel that I got my money's worth since I now enjoy my games with a bit better eye candy. EDIT: Rest of my system Before i5 760 @ 3.4, 12gb RAM, 1 TB SATA, 6970 ATI Now i5 2500K @ 4.5, 16gb RAM, 250GB SSD, 580GTX factory overclocked
  8. redpiano, if you have the interest to do a silly experiment, I'd try to fly my plane through ground fire with messages "turned on", pause and note the damages to the plane, then rinse and repeat a couple of more times. Also, do the same with DM mod uninstalled to see if there is any difference. Not a scientific way, but could be interesting.
  9. Did you try uninstalling / reinstalling OFF and then flying without the mods?
  10. Thanks for the good advise on how to plan during a dogfight. I play this sim in a different way - I use quick combat for the dogfights and for total immersion I avoid dogfights in campaign. What I mean is that in campaign mode I try to play as if I was flying "for real" and avoid dogfights unless I can either finish an enemy off or get in a couple of shots before running away so that I can get home in one piece. Flak and ground fire scare me, so I fly above the clouds most of the missions. If I had been enlisted during WW1, I would have probably chosen to be a plane mechanic and not a pilot. The past few days I was working on trying to tune the graphics to my liking and I think that I've found the perfect fit for me. I searched these forums as well as other forums for old posts and found: 1. CFS3config.exe utility adjustment according to http://www.regshanger.com/Groundcrew/homepage/Garage/2048%20textures/Ground%20Crew%20Design%20CFS3%202048x2048%20settings.php 2. nVidia Inspector settings according to http://www.simforums.com/forums/nhancer-settings-for-new-drivers-updated-v1932_topic36586.html - adjusted "Antialiasing - Transparency Supersampling to 4x Sparce Grid, Ambient Occlusion on and enabled and Triple buffering on. With these settings, I tried with and without ENBseries and I couldn't find any difference in graphics quality, but a huge 10FPS hit in performance, so I removed ENB for now. 3. Image quality sliders set at 5-4-3-5-5 (gets a constant 51 to 57 FPS). 4. CFS3.xml "maxFPS" from 0 to 55 - to reduce stuttering. Sorry, if I went off topic, but I was very excited when I finally achieved these results and wanted to share them.
  11. Originally taken from Creaghorns Homebrew then modified the ini a bit. Just place into the folder where the cf3.exe is located to install and remove the files to uninstall. ENB.rar
  12. Hi redpiano, I'm also starting to shift to playing only OFF. I don't know if it will make a difference, but I see that you may be using HPW Utimate DM version 1.0, while the latest one is at version 2.5, I think. Did you try to install enbseries? I'm not sure if it affects trees, but it does make the sim look better.
  13. Lou, I'd be interested to know what's your nvidia control or inspector settings at? A few things I noticed last night while testing some graphics settings in the game: 1. I do notice the planes fly a bit "faster" when my FPS stays at 60. 2. In the nvidia control panel settings, I get better frame rates (~5 FPS) when I use 8xCSAA than with 4xAA. 3. I'm not sure what "Ground Density" setting does, but there is a visible difference between high and low. 4. Adjusting the Scenery and Terrain Detail sliders from 3 to 4 or visa versa, doesn't seem to make a difference when object density is set to high. When the Scenery and Terrain sliders are set to 5, the external view is very "rich" - very hard to describe - but my FPS dumps to ~27. 5. Other than AA in the nvidia control panel the other settings don't seem to affect the FPS or scenery (except vsyn on with tripple buffering). Buddy.
  14. Does P4 get it's own name?

Interesting discussion thread. I'll add my two cents... I wonder if "OFF" will even be in the name at all?? WW1 Combat Flight Simulator (Oops.. not to be confused with MS Combat Flight Simulator)
  15. Combined FM and AI Weight Mod Complete!

Creaghorn: I agree with your observation as I've experienced the same thing. (Thinking aloud) I'm wondering if it would be possible to adjust a setting in the cfg file in the "empty fuel weight" from "realistic" to more "game friendly" i.e. ~10% less. Maybe a balance can be reached somehow.
  16. Catalyst version 11.2

My experience is not too much different than what was already said before, but I'd like to add that... "If it ain't broke, then don't fix it".... My system is midrange (i5, 6970, 4Gb, 11.2 catalyst and not overclocked) and I was running OFF at good frame rates (~50-60) with settings at 555355. I followed some instructions/suggestions that were on other forums in order to run dx3overrider correctly and was able to achieve the good frame rates...However,... greed set in and I started to adjust my settings in "Texture Info" (even though I had a gut feeling not to do it). So, I set the Fullscreen Swap Effect to D3DSWAPEFFECT_COPY_VSYNC which made my quick combat crash (just like BirdDogICT experience). Then I went back and set everything to what was there previously and mysteriously the frame rates dropped to ~40-50. Don't know why this happened, but I'll live with these numbers and won't try to "fix" anything again.
  17. I'm wondering if any one knows the realistic number of missions flown by pilots per day during the war? Also, does OFF assign night and/or dusk missions during a campaign? I'm flying during the first half of 1915. Cheers Buddy
  18. Number of Missions per day

Thanks Olham, thmightysrc and Javito1986. There is a lot of useful information in these forums and it seems overwhelming to grasp it all. I think that I will start with the default of 3 missions per day just to gain more experience with navigation (paper maps) and aircraft control. I may need to work on "role playing" a bit more through reading and thus increasing my sense of immersion in the game. Cheers, Buddy
  19. 1918(3) MOD

Hey all, Since I'm a beginner in flight sims, I liked to have the messages "no more goals" and "mission successful" whenever I completed a mission. So, I had some spare time and tried to adjust the mission files. I tried every which way - in my limited knowledge - to fix the waypoints issue, but was unsuccessful. The waypoints seem to mimic the "free flight missions" in some way. Anyhow, I adujsted each file (e.g. GermanyFighterTypes1916.txt ) from a lone wolf mission to default ones while preserving the mission types and numbers. So, now I fly with formations with correct waypoints and "historically accurate" mission types. I do miss the lone wolf missions A LOT! But I don't mind the trade off since now I know when my missions are successful. Also, I'm starting the campaign in 1915 (~20 hours flying time), so I still didn't come accross any dogfights yet to judge the aggressiveness of the Enemy AI. Overall, I like the "feel" of these missions and they do add to the immersion factor of the game. Kudos to you Mr. Bletchley
  20. 1917(1) OFF MOD

Before applying this MOD, I used to get a "mission success" whenever I complete the mission objective. Now, when I apply these MODs, I don't get that message anymore. I just get a logged flight. Is that normal?
